- BoneStamp, on 04/06/2009, -2/+611It's outrageous that a man would "honor" kill his wife because she cuts other men's hair. It's further outrageous that Canada will spend money and lives going to Afghanistan to fight a war but won't save this gainfully employed woman who is already in the country. Make her a citizen and tax her income, she'll be one of the most grateful citizens a country can have.
- spookyttws, on 04/06/2009, -0/+406I don't see how you can live if everything anyone does offends you. The idea that cutting someones hair in anyway hurts your feelings or dishonors your family is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I know it's a different culture, and I understand different customs, but at some point the stupidity of these extreme customs and the horrible consequences needs to be pointed out and stopped.
- theown3r, on 04/06/2009, -85/+433EVERYONE PLEASE DIGG THIS....EVEN a digg can help...
- BoneStamp, on 04/06/2009, -9/+350If this is not the best reason to grant refugee status, then I don't know what is. What a sad story.
- copypastry, on 04/07/2009, -5/+261There is no honor in killing someone.
/thread - jotux, on 04/07/2009, -7/+261It will make the digger feel like they actually did something.
- orky7, on 04/06/2009, -3/+253Faisal Javed is a big dick.......
- stoanhart, on 04/07/2009, -1/+242If legal means don't work for her, I recommend she skip the deportation and become an illegal. Beats death.
- Pottersquash, on 04/06/2009, -5/+226how?
- chuckDontSurf, on 04/07/2009, -0/+172Your comment has brought shame to his family. He has no choice now but to retaliate.
- Bagos1, on 04/06/2009, -4/+149Except that in this case it IS a Muslim.
- cowguin, on 04/06/2009, -5/+147if i was her brother id go there and kill her husband before she got there.
- slvrbullet87, on 04/06/2009, -1/+135Actually i bet he has a really small dick
- Zippo, on 04/06/2009, -2/+133Man, there's got to be a point where common sense kicks in and people should realize that cutting someone's hair is not something that someone should be put to death over... especially one's own wife.
- GoKings, on 04/06/2009, -1/+130Doesn't Canada have laws in place where people can seek asylum in Canada even if they haven't followed proper immigration rules if it is under extreme circumstances? This seems like an extreme circumstance. I know in the US we have laws like this and we have a far greater illegal immigration problem than Canada does. I don't see how they could deport her after knowing what she will be facing.
- crazymonkey1, on 04/07/2009, -3/+126"However, about 10,000 women die yearly from honour killings in Pakistan, according to statistics."
That this is even a statistic appalls me, how can killing a human being out of pride be honorable to begin with? Her death won't change anything that she did, why can't he just forget she exists and move on? - bunk3rk1ng, on 04/06/2009, -6/+114Poor lady :(
- Andy.D, on 04/06/2009, -7/+107Except that Muslim extremists are known to in some regions of the world to engage in honor killings, whereas Christian or Catholic extremists are not.
But yeah, the solution is clearly censorship. Fewer the details, the smarter we'll all be, right? - inactive, on 04/06/2009, -1/+96If this doesn't fit the criteria for asylum, then what does?
- Nidy1, on 04/07/2009, -2/+96I want to believe that if the internet can save some kitten from being abused that the same power can be used to save an innocent women from being put to death, but I don't know if we have that kind of power yet. But I think it's worth a shot. Digg this and tell everyone you know.
- Barackalypse, on 04/07/2009, -2/+95"Someone ever tries to kill you, you try to kill 'em right back!"
- Captain Malcom Reynolds - directedition, on 04/07/2009, -2/+93Well come now, isn't hair cutting a form of cheating? After all, if she's touching their hair, then she MUST be dating them.
Maybe it's a perspective issue. You see, he must have lots of sex with his barber and assumes that how it is everywhere. - inactive, on 04/07/2009, -0/+85agreed. I'd hide her.
Hell I'd marry her if it'd help.
***** people. - cjharty, on 04/07/2009, -1/+73You're absolutely right. I think the problem here is that it isn't the pakistani government that's threatened her, it's technically a private issue between husband & wife. Still, those letters should be more than enough proof that it's dangerous for her to return. Don't be a dick Canada!
- themastersb, on 04/07/2009, -8/+80Hi, I'm from Canada's deportation department and I noticed this story has 1000+ diggs. Since it has attained such a number I will no longer pursue to deport this woman.
- Renian, on 04/07/2009, -6/+78Never underestimate the power of a digger's e-penis.
- inactive, on 04/07/2009, -18/+87Another story from the "peaceful" wonder islamic religion.
- woofers07, on 04/07/2009, -1/+68Kinda makes me less pissed off about needing a raise.
- allrighty, on 04/07/2009, -3/+61wtf canada, thats not cool
- Urgoz, on 04/07/2009, -2/+59FTA:
"The practice does take place but it is rare"
...
"...about 10,000 women die yearly from honour killings in Pakistan, according to statistics."
That doesn't sound very rare to me...That's 10,000 women like that featured in the article being put to death against their own will. - steakmusic, on 04/07/2009, -7/+62Jesus Christ that is something straight from a horror film...how can a religion that supports ideas of love and charity be twisted into something so barbaric and *****?
- zoziw, on 04/06/2009, -2/+52If this is true she should seek sanctuary at a United Church (doing this still works here).
- mdaize, on 04/07/2009, -0/+38http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/refugees/inside/apply ...
theres the reason that she cannot apply for Refugee status
"Safe Third Country Agreement
Under an agreement with the United States, refugee claimants must seek asylum (protection) in the first safe country where they arrive. For example, if you entered Canada at a land border from the United States, you will not be able to claim refugee protection in Canada. Sometimes there are exceptions (such as those who already have family in Canada)."
Maybe she can go back to the states and apply for asylum there? - commenter01, on 04/07/2009, -0/+3750% of diggers can detect sarcasm. The others are busy honor killing their wives.
- alappat1, on 04/06/2009, -0/+37in a lot of places, marriage is arranged and more a matter of politics/ social status than of love.
- Groucho88, on 04/07/2009, -2/+392 stories with mississagua in 1 day? thats odd.
- kall, on 04/07/2009, -2/+35It's cultural of the region. The region just happens to dominantly be of that religion.
- Peekman, on 04/07/2009, -2/+34Cause she'd already be dead?
- philosoraptor83, on 04/07/2009, -1/+33I feel sad I live in an era that this stuff still goes on.
:( - Logrusmage, on 04/07/2009, -1/+33How did so many people miss the sarcasm?
- Pakivelli, on 04/07/2009, -0/+31oh lawd
- mksmothers, on 04/07/2009, -0/+30because he takes his religion seriously.
- Citruspers, on 04/06/2009, -2/+32You might find Richard Dawkins' documentary or book an interesting view/read. I'm an atheist, but have Muslim and Christian friends. It's simple: if they respect me, I respect them.
Problem solved. - realpolitik, on 04/07/2009, -0/+29@darkwing81 – That's the benefit of living in the dark ages. 4chan can't get to you.
- liberalidiot, on 04/07/2009, -10/+38There is nothing any of us can do.
- FonWin, on 04/07/2009, -17/+43That's the problem with you people, you're only seeing this from one perspective. Consider it from the husband's family point of view. He has his honour, and his families honor to uphold. Imagine if you will, a life in which people would point and whisper behind your back "his wife is a hair stylist", or "her daughter in law cuts mens hair".
Once you learn to cherish and accept other cultures, you'll realize that this woman is an abomination, and this man and his family have but one recourse.
.... - BioHMMWV, on 04/07/2009, -5/+30Please contact Canada's department of immigration. I just did.
- Scira, on 04/07/2009, -2/+26You forgot the /s so everyone thought you were serious.
- mksmothers, on 04/07/2009, -4/+28religon and common sense sometimes don't intersect.
