- nandres, on 10/03/2008, -0/+4the thing is, there is no choice. In every election I have seen, both candidates are pro-war. Some may disguse it with saying they want a quick pull out or what not, but then when it comes to afganistan or pakistan or whatever new country the american media is beating the drums of war against and they are all for it
- Unicorny, on 10/04/2008, -0/+4Not only are both of the corporate candidates pro-war, they are also both in favor of Bush's preemptive war policy. It sickens me that the alternatives are ignored by the mainstream media (owned by the weapons makers.. I know..)
- OneLess, on 10/03/2008, -0/+3This is totally correct. From the prospective of anyone who is actually pro-peace, there is no mainstream candidate right now who shares your views. The Democrats oppose the Iraq War, and good for them, but if they had been the ones to start it they'd think it was a swell idea. Politicians in this country, and the public at large, are entirely willing to obliterate any foreign country as long as the war drums are pounded and their "patriotism" (read: blind nationalism) is riled up.
- yossarin, on 10/05/2008, -0/+2There's always a choice - people just have to pull their heads out of their own asses to realize it.
- nhburdick, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2Actually, it's a combination of both our history of war (we've been in over 50 armed conflicts in this 1900 alone) and the military industrial complex that drives our economy...not only providing weaponry and support for our own aggression, but for the aggression of countries and groups around the world. War is business, business is money.
- inactive, on 10/04/2008, -1/+3The obvious answer is that a major chunk of the real power structure in America does want war. And make no mistake, voters are but a small part of the power structure. All they get to do is ratify one of the two choices the power structure has already pre-approved and vetted for us. That's it.
- thepoliticalcat, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1The obvious response would be that enough of the populace ARE warmongers (at least 30%) and enough of them are apathetic brainless non-voters or single-issue voters to go along with whatever the oafish troglodytes in power want - the war engine keeps the economy humming, yaknow. Just try asking your fellow Americans to give up one meal a week, or *****, or MacDumpster's. Or TV.
