Digg it up. - algaeturd, on 09/18/2008, -13/+57Dugg down by republicans who don't want a fair election or fair campaigns. Palin bury brigade at the helm!!!
Seriously, if we can't get this on the front page...a basic story about how how important it is for the elections to be carried out with as little corruption as possible (see 2000 and 2004 elections) then all the arguing and bickering is for nothing anyway. - sfgamergirl, on 09/18/2008, -1/+43The link for Election Protection: http://www.866ourvote.org/
- MediaWeasel, on 09/18/2008, -3/+38Quote: "Goldman argued that his group's work was necessitated by the shabby state of America's disorganized and understaffed voting infrastructure -- which, he said, continues to get worse and not better."
"Goldman added that the group would also be taking on outright efforts to disenfranchise voters. For instance, we've seen recent allegations that the Michigan Republican Party is trying to prevent people on foreclosure lists from voting -- as well as efforts in Virginia to prevent college students from registering where they go to school."
It's a step in the right direction and fantastic that this is being met head on. Now the electronic voting machines have to be scrapped - anything hackable gets hacked. - Gemfinder, on 09/18/2008, -3/+32It's unconscionable that the Neocons would deny the right to vote of citizens who've been foreclosed upon, due to MARKET CONDITIONS THAT THEY CREATED.
Here in Oregon, even the homeless can vote. We simply put down as their address the street corners where they frequent.
This nation guarantees the right to vote for every citizen save felons who are still serving their sentences. It is the very basis of our system of government.
And I still say that Election Day should be a national holiday. - kaelyiesta, on 09/18/2008, -2/+29Could have really been useful during the primaries. Still, better late than never.
- Ajajadude, on 09/18/2008, -3/+26Who would've thought I'd be applauding the efforts of a bunch of lawyers?
Definitely a step in the right direction! - saranac7, on 09/18/2008, -2/+18TAKE THAT!
- sheetrock, on 09/19/2008, -1/+15I don't know how much of this stuff is going on this year, but there's a lot of damage that can be done before we even get to the polls...
Registration forms of one party being destroyed:
http://www.baltimorechronicle.com/070505Miller-Irm ...
Too few voting machines available, in a rather strange pattern of districts:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A64737-20 ...
Felons, ex-felons, and people who have felon-like names can't vote, also in a rather strange pattern:
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/07/10/national/10flori ...
But by all means, keep carping about how photo IDs are necessary to ensure the sanctity of the vote. It's just another vote suppression tactic, and if you want to change my mind on this show me solid evidence that not requiring them has created a problem on the level of any of the above examples I've just given.
It looks like more fun is to be had this election as well:
http://www.madison.com/tct/opinion/305148 - paintgrl, on 09/19/2008, -1/+13Thank you God!! All this voter caging is getting disgusting.
FTA: Goldman added that the group would also be taking on outright efforts to disenfranchise voters. "I think that if past elections are any indication, we'll see more of this in various different forms," Goldman said. "We're already seeing it now." - Zero123, on 09/18/2008, -3/+15Word. Best news I've heard all day. do they need volunteers?
- scabbers, on 09/18/2008, -1/+12As a non-American, I would like to donate paypal to this cause.
- mephitix, on 09/18/2008, -2/+12Douchebag.
- inactive, on 09/18/2008, -4/+14The Republicans will stop at nothing to steal your vote. Don't let them!
- Shiftyeyedgoat, on 09/19/2008, -0/+10No matter your political persuasion, voter integrity should be on the list of highest priorities for the nation.
- uncleosbert, on 09/18/2008, -0/+9everyone complains about the quality of our politicians but they won't get any better until we fix our processes. digg this for democracy and fix things from the bottom up!
- paintersal, on 09/18/2008, -2/+10Wow. VERY glad to hear this.
- Aadain, on 09/18/2008, -1/+9They wouldn't be "mobilizing" if elections in the US weren't seen as semi rigged/broken. If everyone of legal age not currently serving time in jail on a federal crime could easily vote, and those votes were not subjected to possible tampering, lose, or damage, then we wouldn't need anyone keeping an eye on the situation.
- NyteStarNyne, on 09/18/2008, -1/+9This is something I am definitely going to give a donation. There is too much riding on this election to have it controlled with BS tactics.
- Aadain, on 09/18/2008, -1/+9I love the idea of Election Day being a holiday!!!! It would drive voter turn out since a lot of people wouldn't have go to work then! You good sir deserve a cookie :)
- inactive, on 09/18/2008, -4/+11That's more like it, dont let the GOP Neocons curve the vote with *****! The lies, inaccuracy, and disorganization of our voting system is a national eyesore.
- EllipsisAeon, on 09/19/2008, -0/+7It does not make a flying F! if you are a Democrat or a Republican, your vote should count...and only once!
There has been voter fraud since this country began, and it will continue as long as there are elections. That said, no dead voters, no double/triple votes and do even try and ***** with me when I go to vote!
If a bunch of liberal lawyers want to stand around all day and make sure people aren't being F! when they try to vote, GOOD.
If a bunch of conservative nut jobs want to scour every name and person to make sure there is only one legit vote per citizen, GOOD.
This isn't about one side or another. This is about our fundamental right to vote. - Bith8654, on 09/18/2008, -2/+9Example?
- Bith8654, on 09/18/2008, -2/+9Why not? What can they do other than make sure someone gets to vote?
- inactive, on 09/19/2008, -0/+5It should be on a Saturday! White collar workers have no problem leaving work to go vote, hourly workers can't get away from their duties. Republicans don't want democracy! They would rather go back to the time when only land owners could vote.
- Clamson, on 09/18/2008, -1/+6Please send'em all to Florida. They'll no doubt screw it up again.
- Idietired, on 09/18/2008, -3/+8All in favor say "aye" ...
- kismetropolis, on 09/19/2008, -0/+5There's a wiki now for reporting voter suppression incidents, too, so they're all in one location.

Register to vote! this is a universal form that works for any state. - mrsteveman1, on 09/18/2008, -2/+7Yea because their tactics at stealing elections are just LEGENDARY
moron - richbleak, on 09/19/2008, -1/+6This is the most important aspect of this election. I hope this effort thrives.
- anubis2night, on 09/19/2008, -3/+7Somewhere Deep in the Republican machine the Man is screaming Noooooooo!!!!!
- paintgrl, on 09/19/2008, -1/+5Do you honestly believe Jesus would be a Republican, when the bible says he was a liberal. He was poor, and did not like the rich, you remember.
- SatoriSeeker, on 09/19/2008, -0/+4You watch too much Bill O'Reilly. Go research cases of voter fraud from double voting. You'll find it's on the order 30 or so people. Go research cases of voter disenfranchisement - you'll find its over 1 million people.
ACORN does nothing you've just said, you're buying propaganda hook line and sinker. - inactive, on 09/19/2008, -0/+4God don't like ugly!
FYI ~ most if not all of the cheating has be traced back to the GOP. I understand why your scared, cheating is the only way for the GOP can win. - Ajajadude, on 09/19/2008, -0/+4Never been.
- FredSpeaking, on 09/18/2008, -1/+5http://www.nationalcampaignforfairelections.org/pa ...
- dw4prez, on 09/18/2008, -5/+9Acorn registered 72,000 new voters in our town of 400,000 including kids. As they have gone through some and have found 1,100 so far have been fraudulent. Last election they found a lady registering tens of thousands of kids to vote. And many others. On the radio we have been told to vote early because people are falsely claiming to be other people to vote more than once. It is sad that I need my ID to buy bread but not to protect my right to have my vote count.
- JenniferInMO, on 09/20/2008, -0/+4No you haven't seen busloads of anyone going from poll to poll. Hasn't happened. You, sir are a liar or you have the same need to try to cause trouble as Rush Limbaugh. Either way, you are a sad person. I feel sorry for you.
- meechmouse, on 09/19/2008, -0/+4It's going to kill you to have a Black President, isn't it?!? Well get yourself right with God, because youou are the reason that McCain and Palin are still in the race. You all only have 48 more days left.
People like you would rather eat Vienna Sausage and drink water for dinner than have a "*****" in the White House. Jim Crow is dead in case you didn't get the memo.
How do you know what the polls are like in the inner cities? Furthermore, what were YOU doing at more than one poll to see this "busload" of *African Americans* voting at every place they stopped?!? Answer that question. - marv0, on 09/18/2008, -3/+7Move to Russia if you never want things to change you close minded brain washed christian.
- protonone, on 09/19/2008, -0/+4Now we have a Palin bury brigade as well?
- JenniferInMO, on 09/20/2008, -0/+3The volunteers at the polls are lawyers, judges, law students, paralegals, etc. But not all are civil rights attorneys so while those people have a better background and will probably have training, the civil rights attorneys will be available by phone to answer questions in the volunteers can't answer the question or if they run into an issue. There are also civil rights attorneys who will be dispatched to various locations if an issue arises. They will get their call from the hotline screeners.
- fluxion, on 09/19/2008, -0/+3standing outside polling locations with a list of foreclosure lists is not a Democratic strategy. perhaps not out of a higher moral standing...it simply doesnt serve their purpose. but point still stands, the effort is, at least indirectly, in a large way opposition to a rather organized Republican effort to cull low-income voters from the polls.
there are genuine polling screw-ups as well that this addresses, not necessarilly tied to Republican efforts. but in the end, the only people who would digg something like this down are Republicans. since it's a given to assume at least some people have dugg this down, it is a fair characterization. there's no other reason to do so. - Regoolian, on 09/19/2008, -0/+3Here in Australia where the prime minister can call the election at any time, it is always on a Saturday, Tuesday in November seems to be a rather archaic concept for the 21st Century.
- r00fus, on 09/19/2008, -0/+3Lawyers are key to a functioning judicial system. I wouldn't want to live in a country without lawyers... most of those are dictatorships or anarchy.
It's not just the lawyers, it's their clients (and the corruptible judges and politicians) that subvert justice. - r00fus, on 09/19/2008, -0/+3@rworne,
Your view is legitimate, but often efforts to "legitimize" voters aren't matched with making IDs more available. That's what happened in Indiana, and many other states are considering similar laws.
I'd agree with the following, for example:
1) Make IDs required for voting two years after date. 2) Make IDs free (every year or so) for anyone one year after date. 3) Spend government money to ensure everyone gets IDs by having programs to get homeless and other people IDs.
Of course, the folks who are really interested (ie, spending money and influencing politicians) in restricting voting to ID'd voters, would never accept such an effort. - l800LEMMINGS, on 09/19/2008, -0/+3Let's do this right people, and this time don't vote for the douche bag because it will be "EPIC LOLZ"
- rworne, on 09/19/2008, -0/+3@sheetrock
I really do believe IDs should be required to vote. However, gaining an ID should not be used as an artificial barrier to disenfranchise voters. A driver's licenseshould be perfectly acceptable. For those that don't drive, or cannot afford the fee? One simple way would be to guarantee a state-issued ID card to any resident for free - which means that there is now no "poll tax". - JenniferInMO, on 09/20/2008, -0/+3So your Republican moral values includes disenfranchising people? Preventing the poor, those who have lost their homes or on a fixed income from voting. You are no American. You promote fascism.
