- JCSaint, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10Romney said a little while ago that he wants to expand the military by 100,000 troops. They don't seem to realize that we're barely meeting our recruitment guidelines as is. Unless you want to institute a draft, and I guarantee you there would be mass protests on that on a scale that makes the other Iraq protests look like a tear party.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10Vietnam speak all over again:
"Yet another war we could not afford to lose at any cost."
"The world would come to an end if we did."
After almost 60,000 American and over 3 million Vietnamese deaths we up and left and the world continued to spin..... - JCSaint, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10Sonofdy1,
Honestly, the Dems have had no part in administering this war. They're not making battlefield decisions and the Commander in Chief is a Republican. It is interesting to see the right already blaming the Democrats for losing the war while simultaneously denying that we're losing. I am curious though, how much more of this does the country have to suffer through before you come to the same realization that two thirds of Americans have already reached: the war is lost and there's nothing we can do to fix the mess over there. We're only creating more terrorists and breeding more resentment against America in the world.
Terrorism is a tactic and you can't defeat a tactic. We have to try to contain it and take away the reason that people join and support terrorist groups. The first step is getting out of Iraq. - hawkeye17, on 10/11/2007, -4/+11Huckabee just showed the country that he is not a serious man. We do not have the extra troops he'd like to see and he knows this. He's trying to score political points with the Far Right at the expense of our troops and our countries best interests. Another disgraceful Republican, go figure.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8WHY would it be needed to expand the military?
The only reason is so you rightard war mongers can use it to try to bully the rest of the world into following the US dominated neocon agenda.
There is NO rational reason to expand the military and every reason to reduce it and use diplomacy to resolve conflicts.
The neanderthal days of slaughtering each other are only missed by the right wing (most of whom are too cowardly to enlist themselves).
You know, sonofdy1, if you TRULY believe the military needs a boost go sign up.
And the conflicts that WILL come after Iraq (it's inevitable) can't be pinned on the Dems. How about pinning it on the jackasses who STARTED this ***** occupation?
Try taking a little bit of responsibility for your warmongering.
Or are you dumb enough to think that war breeds peace?
I guess you right wing losers thought the rest of the world is as ***** as you are. How'd that turn out? - fantasmacanino, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Did you forget to /sarcasm, or are you a complete moron?
- smackywentz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4*headdesk
- brianbb98, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4come spring 2009 when one of these fools is voted into office... all i can say is "told you so"
if we keep electing the same type of people we'll keep getting the same results
from wikipedia: "Concerning substance addiction and abuse, insanity is recognized in twelve-step recovery groups as "repeating the same mistakes and expecting different results"
i think that also applies here. - JCSaint, on 10/11/2007, -1/+51. The war is lost when we withdraw? So I guess you don't think we're losing now no matter how much money we spend, lives we lose, or terrorists we create?
2. Democrats are advocating with a growing chorus of Republicans (Lugar, Domenici, etc)
3. We don't have to lose any engagements. Guerrillas win as long as they don't "lose." As long as they can cause problems, they're winning and we're losing. There is no central command to defeat. There is no one that can surrender on behalf of all of them. That is the nature of an insurgency/guerrilla warfare.
4. Losing the war in the American mind didn't happen because of a Democratic congress. We have a Democratic congress because we're losing the war.
5. You again talk about Democratic "actions" in this war and yet all you point to is Democratic rhetoric. Besides asking Patreaus for a status report in September (which both parties asked for) what have Democrats done to affect the war? Nothing. And THAT'S why the Congress' approval ratings are so low. Because they're not doing enough.
Now go pick up a goddamned newspaper and stop pretending you know what you're talking about, *****. - reddevil3, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Another retarded republican...
- Slotsky, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Seriously, can't we have a requirement for all presidential candidates to have a brain? Is that too much to ask???
- JCSaint, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2damn comment system is confusing.
- siszam, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3We "lost" when our retard president decided the answer to a few thousand dead was to send more people be die. Violence begets violence. A few people committed a heinous act so what does America do? We could have ended it there. No. We kill more of our own people plus invade an unrelated country and start killing their people. Now that is hypocritical.
- MurphyWatson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Lol at the morons pretending like we didn't create that power vacuum or anything.
This Huckabee guy must not really want to be president(not to mention the other front runners).
The only comparison that can be drawn from Vietnam and Iraq, is that we didn't mind our own business and ended up creating more problems than we solved, end of discussion. If you disagree, you need to seriously read a ***** history book. - fuzzmeister, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4You need to stop drinking the Kool-Aid.
- smackywentz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Headline translation: Huckabee would like to pour salt on the wound.
- logicalnoise, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2*****!
Sorry, I love that movie. - JCSaint, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1nm
- fantasmacanino, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I would have gone with "*****" as the pun.
- superguysteve, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I don't 'heart' huckabee...
- sonofdy1, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3Hard to sign up when i am already in. Have you thought at all about what leaving a huge power vacuum in the middle east will do to the middle east? Diplomacy only works when both sides want it to and most of the middle east doesn't want it to work. This has been proven again and again and again. God don't any of you read history? And what is up with all your hate?
- vote4breakfast, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Also check out today's story about Mike Huckabee and Mexican Stereotypes. Vote For Breakfast 2008.
- sonofdy1, on 10/11/2007, -5/+3The war is lost when we withdraw. The democrats are advocating it. We have not lost one major military engagement in Iraq. None. We continually defeat the enemy on the ground. I am not sure why you think we are losing when we haven't lost any military battle at all. However we are losing the war in the American mind and the congress which is controlled by DEMOCRATS. You guys demanded that bush take responsibility for his actions, I agree. Now you want to shift responsibility for your own actions? Hypocritical at best. Have the moral courage to face the results of your actions.
- brendan09, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1bush really is a great guy. if u where in his place, you would have made a lot of the same decisions... read this: http://chrisjohnston.org/blog/2007/07/07/freedom/
and i really am tired of people bashing bush. he is a great president, and if a majority of the country has a big enough problem, he wouldnt have been re elected. republicans are right more than democrats. they understand that you have to fight for what you have and what you believe in. - sonofdy1, on 10/11/2007, -6/+3BTW Iraq is not the core reason for Islamic terrorism. Look it up. I am also sick of politicaly correct slogans like terrorism is a tactic. If you aren't willing to fight the war against Islamic terror, just say so and accept the consequences.
- sonofdy1, on 10/11/2007, -8/+3and over 2 million more died after we left. Another war we could have won if the Left hadn't interfered. Oh and the VC were never going to follow us home. These guys already have.
- pjohns, on 10/11/2007, -8/+3This war is about freedom, and I'm sick of hearing about how bad Bush is!!
He's a nice guy! - sonofdy1, on 10/11/2007, -11/+3We could do it but it would take activating more reservists and extending tours. I doubt its going to happen. Expanding the military needs to be done anyway. We are going to need them for the wars that come after the democrats force a defeat in iraq.
