- stagl, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10did anyone watch the rest of the video? the interviewer specifically pointed out that it's not the conditions, but the fact that they are being held without trial...possibly indefinitely. of course, huckabee responds by pushing fear that if we "let them out, they'll fly a plane into something". powell very clearly said that we wouldn't be letting them go free, but they would be able to have basic human rights.

The problem is not mis-reading the title but not even watching the video or reading the article. - frant1c, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Yeah, most people burned at the stake in medieval times would probably prefer Guantanamo, too.
What does that have to do with the fact that the US government is systematically abusing prisoners in G? - twertyto, on 10/11/2007, -7/+10We shall not and why are you making comparisons to prisons outside the US. That point was not discussed.
FTV: "I visited Guantanamo just about a year ago. ....and I can tell you most of our prisoners would love to be in a facility more like Guantanamo and less like the state prisons that people are in in the United States."
I'm sure when any moderately important government official is "visiting" Guantanamo the White House is going to make every attempt to tidy the place up so his perspective is going to obviously warped. - shawnfassett, on 10/11/2007, -8/+10But that isn't what he said, is it? Jesus Conservatives are stupid.
- zouhair, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5There is no hope about America, the last one i had is when the Dems win the congress and i waited for at least an impeachment (withdrawal was obvious to me) but as things are turning out, america is just another country full of bastards and those that still had some human decency (some of those are here) aren't doing nothing that can realy change things
Get rid of Dems and GOP, they are all crooks - Liam76, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5@ twertyto
the biggest problem with the prisoners in Gitmo is weight gain.
They have it so easy they are getting fat.
I am not saying it is right for them to be there, but they have it easier than any jail in the world. - samsims, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4This is not the first time Huckabee says controversial statement:
"Huckabee drew criticism in October 2006 for referring to his significant weight loss as being the result of a stay at a concentration camp held by the Democrat Party of Arkansas." (wikipedia)
I suggest we make him stay at Guantanamo for a while to get the real picture of what happens there:
small mesh-sided cells
lights are kept on day and night
Detainees are kept in isolation most of the day
blindfolded when moving
including sleep deprivation
the use of so-called truth drugs
beatings
locking in confined and cold cells
being forced to maintain uncomfortable postures
chained in a fetal position on the floor
subjected to extremes of temperature
one was gagged with duct tape
one was shackled in a baseball catcher's position
subjected to loud music and flashing lights
two detainees chained in a fetal position between 18 to 24 hours that had urinated and defecated on themselves
I can't believe we Americans are associated with such horrible acts.
WAKE UP AMERICA, THE LAND OF THE FREE - ThinkBox, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Gee, that sounds so nice, lets send Paris Hilton there!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Hey, their waterboards are the finest around, straight up Ritzy. And the psychological torure? Just like you were on a cruise. You'll love it so much that you'll hardley notice you've comitted suicide!
- toddcat, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Terrorists don't need to raise attention or the anger in the Muslim world by doing anything extreme.....our presence in Iraq does that for them. They know (they're not stupid) that if they were do any sort of version of 9/11 that they would waste sympathy which some have for the US occupation in Iraq. At least Wolf doesn't let him get away with the good prisons trope.
- swrostmore, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5Who wants to volunteer to accost Huckabee in the middle of the night? The plan is to hood and handcuff him, and then throw him in a van. While driving him to the airport he should be informed that he is being extradited to Pakistan for "interrogation", unless he confesses his crimes. After he admits to covering up Roswell and having JFK whacked, throw him on a plane to Cuba where he can sit in a 5x5 cage for a few years and think about how glad he is that he isn't in a state prison.
- BizzaroRob, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1"Most" prisoners in the U.S. have been tried and convicted too.
- Liam76, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3they don't have basice human rights? Short of letting them go free what else could we give them?
(I think we should give them sentences) - Paroparo, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3shawn: Did you mean "Jesus, conservatives are stupid." or "Jesus-conservatives are stupid."? Probably agree with you in either case.
- punchingjudy, on 10/11/2007, -5/+3I ![heart] Huckabee.
- sonofdy1, on 10/11/2007, -15/+7I miss-read the title. The iranian part is withdrawn but the rest is correct. Dispite what your liberal masters tell you, the terrorists in gitmo don't have it bad at all. That being said, I would have decleared them POW's and then they could be held till the war is over. No questions asked.
- sonofdy1, on 10/11/2007, -23/+8Compared to most prisons in the world, huckabee is correct. Lets compare to a iranian prison shall we?
