- d2002, on 12/14/2008, -21/+116It was designed to be full of Win. Everyone knows that.

- Kronich, on 12/15/2008, -5/+40There was a documentary in the UK that looked at the effects of advertising on elections and the general consensus was that it didn't really have an effect - but parties continue to do it 'just in case'.
Looking at this and the whole Obama campaign though, it's difficult to believe that it wouldn't have had an effect. - Stevo23, on 12/15/2008, -2/+35C'mon, be serious. We all know MrBabyMan has never made an original contribution to anything.
- Oxygen, on 12/15/2008, -11/+42I like Turtles

- BuzzEdition, on 12/14/2008, -10/+30That was awesome! Great submit!
And to know that the ad execs did their part, and then Obama's team made all of the adaptations. What a talented staff he had. - pintomp3, on 12/15/2008, -1/+20dugg for "pirates for obama" t-shirt. 3:00 in part 2.
- TheAutoInsider, on 05/22/2009, -3/+21LOL
- cadmiumpaint, on 12/15/2008, -1/+19you must not work with many large clients because that kind of thing is normal when working with corporate identity.
btw, i'm also a designer and i'm not surprised by the amount of people, process it takes to come up with that iconic logo. - rz8472, on 12/15/2008, -1/+18I thought Obama copied his logo off
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiwan_Solidarity_Uni ... - inactive, on 12/15/2008, -1/+16If you had a logo, I bet it would look an awful lot like the Fox News logo.
- dforty3, on 12/15/2008, -4/+19Looks like Sun worship symbolism to me.
- phantom_mullet, on 12/15/2008, -0/+14And, to top it off, the designer's name is Sol. Coincidence? I think not.
- Rothbardosaurus, on 12/15/2008, -8/+22That's right. Obama was marketed to you.
- monkeyangst, on 12/15/2008, -2/+16You misspelled "us" and you neglected to mention that the same is true of every political candidate.
- Emelius, on 12/15/2008, -1/+14I agree.
- jikmo, on 12/15/2008, -0/+13EVERYTHING
- PGPirate, on 12/15/2008, -1/+14The first thing I saw when looking at the logo was a plowed field with a blue sky. Very agricultural based, and I liked it.
- Brian48216, on 12/15/2008, -2/+15this just shows you're a ***** designer.

Did Obama troll us all? - bixby1, on 12/15/2008, -1/+12collaboration. seems to be a common thread with Obama.
- Mujokan, on 12/15/2008, -1/+11As many have said besides me, I've never seen a better run campaign. Not just on the message level but on the organizational level, and on the tactical level. They had some luck, but luck is never enough by itself.
The process of following the campaign closely and arguing pro-Obama gave me a sense of trust for this group that I hope continues. E.g. about 90% of the time, when someone made some damaging claim, if you went back and researched it, there was never much to it. There were some blows that landed, but mostly what you found was that people weren't being accurate. And then when it came to the counterpunch (a) they were honest and (b) they were smart. I consider myself a pretty seasoned forum warrior, but there were angles they came up with that I never thought of, and they were great. And the line that they ran was always easy to defend. There were some exceptions, where you just had to throw your hands up and say "no contest", but generally it was top notch.
That's just on the media wars side. On image they had a great base and they leveraged it really well. Obama is smarter and a better speaker than Bill Clinton, and that is saying something. Around that they built a media presence that hit every note.
If you look back 18 months (about when I started supporting Obama myself) this was an unlikely victory. They had to get almost everything right, and they did. I hope the administration lives up to this, of course, but just speaking of the campaign in isolation, it was amazing. And I think Obama learned from that that honesty, smarts and good communication are a powerful combination. - jrm125, on 12/15/2008, -4/+14Seems like such a small thing, but the logo was one of several elements of his campaign that led to a win. It was a sign of a cohesive strategy that they carried through to the end.
The guys who ran this campaign were brilliant. - Aguyinachair, on 12/15/2008, -4/+14That was the comment of the year.
- jikmo, on 12/15/2008, -0/+9Analysts have said that Obama's campaign has shattered lots of old theories about elections. Volumes will be written analyzing the campaign.
- rharris, on 12/15/2008, -2/+11I always thought it was rip of the Bank of America logo.

Sorry to hear that you and your family are a bunch of Bushy fascists... - BobTheTaco, on 12/15/2008, -2/+10Some of those look like they came from the 80s! I'm glad they chose the one they did, although the first of the three finalists looked pretty good too.

- MCA2142, on 12/15/2008, -4/+11I can see every candidate in the next election having a logo.
- soopafly, on 12/15/2008, -1/+8"designer by trade" my ass. This is normal for a design studio, and I know because I've been doing it for 10 years.
- mikeem, on 12/15/2008, -2/+8He nabbed the outpost firewall logo. go on, close one eye and squint the other: http://www.softidentity.com/portfolio/31/final.gif
- jikmo, on 12/15/2008, -0/+6Well sure, if you don't mind having a crappy product, then that is "more efficient".
But if you want a better product, then that requires more time and money.
Efficient (usually) means that you're maximizing profit. To do that, you make sure that your last amount of output gives you exactly as much as your last amount of input (or in math terms, derivative of value of output = derivative of cost of input). If you try to just minimize input, then you can get more profit by adding more input, which is more efficient.
I haven't yet watched the video, but I'd say that Obama probably got out of his logo a lot more than he put in, which means that he was not inefficient. - Aguyinachair, on 12/15/2008, -0/+6It's like how everything in Shakespeare is a phallus.
Freud would love our generation. - enantiodromia, on 12/15/2008, -0/+6playing with a pirated copy of Photoshop in your bathrobe all day does not mean you are a "designer".
- inactive, on 12/15/2008, -1/+6I got an Obama for Christmas and he is awesome!
- elmundio87, on 12/15/2008, -3/+8haha, it's a butthurt republican
- inactive, on 12/15/2008, -7/+12Just as slick as a soda pop campaign - Obama: the choice of a new generation.
The man could have been a brand of beer just as easily: great taste, less filling, hope, change, whatever. - aceslick911, on 12/15/2008, -1/+6gotta love that.
