GRAND TOTAL: 487 EMPLOYEES, $32,363,253 (Thirty two million, three hundred and sixty three thousand, two hundred and fifty three dollars). - robbob, on 07/02/2009, -0/+24I know many IT people that have less responsibility make much more than this staff
- amolkold, on 07/02/2009, -1/+23Warren, Michael J. Employee $0 Per Annum SENIOR ADVISOR FOR ECONOMICS DIVISION OF PRESIDENTIAL PERSONNEL
how you know the economy is bad ... - CB810, on 07/02/2009, -4/+25If you saw the hours that these people worked, you'd take that back
- Anand999, on 07/02/2009, -0/+16He said he was freezing the salaries of those making over $100k, not that no one was making over $100k.
- TimDigg, on 07/02/2009, -2/+14The people who make $0 are the ones I'm most concerned about....
- CB810, on 07/02/2009, -6/+18ALL of these folks are underpaid
- CB810, on 07/02/2009, -3/+15Fascinating list. So many people on the payroll and such small salaries for the amount of work they do
- armbar, on 07/02/2009, -0/+12Downloaded it in Excel and autosummed it: $39,147,222
- SoulGrub, on 07/02/2009, -2/+14They should work for free?
- Barackalypse, on 07/02/2009, -4/+16Great, so we get transparency on $32 million in staff expenses, but the Federal Reserve cannot account for our $800 billion in TARP funds. This is one reason I am so so cynical about Government, they trumpet meaningless moves like this as somehow mattering, meanwhile the dirty unaccountable dealing continues as always and with the administration's blessing (I say that because Obama voted for the TARP bailout, so any mismanagement of it is partly his fault).
- jeffness, on 07/02/2009, -0/+11yeah, like working in the same office as the president n stuff.
- SwiftKick34, on 07/02/2009, -0/+11Stop making judgments about something with which you are completely unfamiliar. None of these salaries is outrageous.
- BobTheTaco, on 07/02/2009, -3/+13I wish I could compare it to the salaries from the Bush years, that would provide an interesting insight
- JDoorjam, on 07/02/2009, -1/+11Eh, no real surprises. With a few exceptions on the high end (senior advisors, directors of this-and-that which don't exist in the House and Senate), these are roughly comparable with Hill staffers (a lot of talented people being grossly underpaid in exchange for working somewhere freaking amazing).
- AaronCo, on 07/02/2009, -0/+10LOL. Volunteer coordinator isn't a coordinator that's a volunteer, a volunteer coordinator is someone that coordinates volunteers.
Problem with volunteers (having worked w/ them in the past), they're unreliable. Bad storm? Work doesn't get done. Snow? No work. Really sunny and nice day? No work. Billy Mays dies? No work, too busy mourning.
So you can use volunteers for disposable or redundant positions (like call center work or door to door fund-raising), but there's no way a volunteer should be trusted with a critical job. - raradra, on 07/02/2009, -1/+9wow, these people are incredibly underpaid compared to others in their field. Must be other perks keeping them in their jobs.
- enantiodromia, on 07/02/2009, -1/+9Set Phony Outrage Machine to STUNNING!
- gantz9x, on 07/02/2009, -2/+10How much do the federal reserve bankers make?
- EuphoriabyMusic, on 07/02/2009, -0/+7Anyone who thinks these people are overpaid needs to consider what these individuals could be making in the private sector. The lowest salaried individuals, Staff Assistant, Legislative Assistant and Executive Assistant aren't really underpaid either, they are mostly fresh out of undergrad with a bit of experience on the Hill.
- JDoorjam, on 07/02/2009, -0/+7... no
- amolkold, on 07/02/2009, -0/+7$400,000 per year salary + various expense accounts.
Biden makes a bit over $200,000 per year + expenses. - lhbaker, on 07/02/2009, -1/+7Don't worry, Jan. You'll get promoted to McDonald's manager some day.
- Homerr, on 07/02/2009, -1/+7If the West Wing has any basis of reality then the taxpayers are getting a good deal.
- enantiodromia, on 07/02/2009, -2/+8most people are not unemployed. sorry.
- lcarsdeveloper, on 07/03/2009, -0/+6Nelson: Hey! Look how much money Skinner makes - $25,000 a year!
Bart: Let's see. He's 40 years old times $25 grand...Whoa! He's a millionaire!
Skinner: I wasn't a principal when I was 1.
Nelson: Plus, in the summer he paints houses.
Milhouse: He's a billionaire!
Skinner: If I were a billionaire, why would I be living with my mother? - lvizon, on 07/02/2009, -0/+6Obama's not a White House staffer.
- enantiodromia, on 07/02/2009, -0/+6because white house staffers never spend their money in the private sector?
- enantiodromia, on 07/02/2009, -1/+7LOL
- deathfix, on 07/02/2009, -0/+5I'm sure they get good benefits though.
- DealBreaker86, on 07/02/2009, -0/+5You're not accounting for "real" unemployment which calculates total HOURS cut since last september. There are many people who aren't getting fired but are instead being cut from 40/week to 30 and even 20hrs/week. THAT is the true measurement of unemployment in this country. And yes, it's around ~20% last time I checked.
- commenter01, on 07/02/2009, -1/+6over 4 years, assuming they're frozen: $156, 588, 888.00
*****. 150 million just to run a house.
(/s for the retarded) - diggduggDOOM, on 07/02/2009, -0/+5Like being able to put this job on their resume?
- kanimara, on 07/02/2009, -1/+6Agreed. Working for corporate they'd be making a lot more, and probably doing less stressful work.
- SirCharge, on 07/03/2009, -0/+5http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/opinions/grap ...
Every president has been required to post the salaries of their staff since the mid '90s. Its the law. - terpintime, on 07/02/2009, -1/+6Many of these people are on call 24/7 and don't usually have time for their families. These people work 60+ hour weeks, while we get to go home and flip on tivo.
P.s the unemployment rate isn't over 25%, it just hit 9.5% the highest in 25 years.. so get it straight. We're in a ***** can but not a dustbowl. - Corrosionx, on 07/02/2009, -3/+7LOL you call that transparency? Meanwhile noone is allowed to know how much money the government gave to offshore banks.
- bink0, on 07/02/2009, -1/+5Seriously, underpaid?
Don't get me wrong, we all want to be paid more for our jobs but I think their salaries are fair. And I'm sure because of the prestige and honor that comes with working at the White House, many would do it for less money. Most of these individuals have done well for themselves prior to joining the WH Staff; at least at the senior level.
And federal employment benefits are definitely worth a lot.
Just my .02 - JStraum, on 07/02/2009, -0/+4I'll bet your boss would love to get a volunteer to do your job as well...
- mandarin, on 07/02/2009, -2/+6You guys forgot the perks these people get
- mrgreg, on 07/03/2009, -1/+5So the Obama Administration releases salaries of Govt. employees and calls it Transparency, and remain silent on things that matter that they've been assaulted numerous times over the past few months for not being transparent on? Hilarious.
- winmywii, on 07/02/2009, -1/+5"Wow - are they friggin kidding? while America's unemployment of true numbers is up int eh 25%+ range they are making" an average wage?
- adorkable81, on 07/02/2009, -0/+4well, i'm sure they receive awesome health benefit and additional perks.
- SpaceCamel23, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3How about:
Peterson, Nicholas - New Media Analyst - $86927
"I find the President the best stories on Digg" - saranagati, on 07/02/2009, -2/+5i think the reason for that is once their out of the whitehouse in 4 years or whenever they leave, they can put that they worked at the white house for the obama administration and get a HUGE salary somewhere else.
- whatthefu, on 07/02/2009, -2/+5Compared to what people in the private sector get paid for doing easier jobs, I don't think they are. I think their salaries are just right.
- vinod1978, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3From what I have read it's not that they are keeping the TARP records confidential - it's because when it was passed they never made a central source for this information - so they actually DON'T KNOW where the money went - at least that is what I read.
