- jstohler, on 10/10/2007, -5/+90How long until Rudy stops perpetuating the myth that he was there side-by-side with the people actually doing the hard work?
- joyshapes, on 10/10/2007, -1/+64but this isn't about whether or not rudy posing for photo-ops would have hindered the clean up effort. this is about the fact that, a week or so ago, rudy said that he had spent just as much time at ground zero as the reconstruction workers: "I was at ground zero as often, if not more, than most of the workers. ... I was there working with them. I was exposed to exactly the same things they were exposed to. So in that sense, I'm one of them" (http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2007/08/giuliani-says-h.html). so this graphic proves that not only is rudy an *****, considering that his time at ground zero was spent holding press conferences and posing for photos rather than getting his hands dirty in the rubble, but he is a liar as well.
- Cerialthriller, on 10/10/2007, -1/+56that may be true but that doesn't make it ok to flat out lie to further your election
- geekchic, on 10/10/2007, -24/+63To be fair, I would hardly think having the "boss" hanging around all day, every day would have either helped the clearance effort or changed the outcome.
If anything, having an office worker who is not skilled in construction clearance hanging around and being required by the media to constantly get involved would have probably slowed things down considerably. - cactus476, on 10/10/2007, -1/+28I think he's talked about being at ground zero longer than physically being there.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/10/2007, -0/+23The point is, the only time he spent there was for photo-ops and to talk to the media. He wasn't actually there helping the situation at all. He probably just made it more difficult for the real workers to do their job.
- JHaze, on 10/10/2007, -5/+25graph ≠ graphic
- shaelen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11To be fair, the point isn't about how much time he spent there, it's about how much time he's CLAIMING he spent there. I was listening to him on Sean Hannity's show and they were both slobbering over each other while Hannity was claiming no other politician even dared to spend every day at ground zero. Well, I would guess that if it had happened in some other state, Guliani probably wouldn't be flying there every day, either.
- reeder, on 10/10/2007, -6/+17Haven't we had enough insane liars running the government for the last 6 1/2 years?
- Dgen_X, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10That's the most offensive thing I've ever seen in my entire life
- marxfriedrice, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12All Hail Rudy! http://www.theonion.com/content/news/giuliani_to_run_for_president_of_9
- Terr01, on 10/10/2007, -4/+14You win an award for HILARIOUSLY MISSING THE POINT.
- whoaohh, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8yeah i was expecting something gruesome..
- ndurkes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+66 1/2 years? More like 50
- GoatBn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6when people stop believing him. I mean face it...he is the Republican front runner. His campaign is working, he would switch strategies if it wasn't...
- badarabdad, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6damn some of you diggers are so thick!
Rudy has been going around making claims that he spent more time at the WTC site than rescue workers and he doesn't have any lung issues. so he implies they're full of *****. this graphic proves he's the one full of ***** as most of the rescue workers spent more time there in 3 days than Rudy did in 4 months. - Matthew720, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7He could have spent 20 minutes there for all I care. But, to go on record and lie about it, to further his own personal agenda (i.e. running for president) is an idiotic thing to do. Rudy's only using 9/11 to promote himself. Had he cared more about the city as you put it, and the rescue effort (and the rescue workers) he would have provided them with a much needed communications system overhaul in the late 90s as the old one wasn't meeting demand. And, he would have at least put the Emergency Response Center in Brooklyn like he was advised to do by the NYPD after the 1993 attack instead of putting it in the WTC. So to recap, Rudy isn't just a liar, but a terrible manager, as well.
- razor150, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Obviously he wasn't. Tragedies draw politicians like flies to *****. There has never been a tragedy where tons of politicians didn't show up to pretend they care. Nothing better then a photo-op that makes them look sympathetic to other peoples plight. Other politicians are probably jealous that Rudy can actually run on 9/11 and nothing else.
- shaelen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Who cares how much ANYONE spent there besides the cleanup crew? It's not about how much time he spent there, it's about how he's trying to pump himself up by making false claims. Anyway, why is it the responsibility of politicians to stand at a cleanup site every day? Symbolism? Haha.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7So who has the job of archiving the exact time detail of Rudy's life? What an odd graph.
- HunterTV, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10Reading comprehension, cross referenced with current events = understanding the graphic in context.
Result: Knowing what the ***** you're talking about.
Grade: You fail. - holygram, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Whew....for a second, I thought it was going to be a picture, and I was going to have to put a comment about how badly digg needs a picture section.
But, its a graphic, so nevermind. - HunterTV, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Fairness doesn't apply to someone who wouldn't return it.
- miriclaire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5It really is hard to carry on intelligent threads and responses when twits completely miss the point like that. Whether he could have helped or not, had other things to do or not, this would not be an issue if he had not CLAIMED to have spent so much time there and flat out lied! This is about catching him in an insensitive lie! He even admitted he exaggerated. So he is destroying himself!
- shaelen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Why does that even matter? This isn't about who spent more time than whom, it's about Guliani trying to make himself look better by lying about how much time he spent there. What is this, anyway, some kind of race to see who can waste more time standing at ground zero than anybody else?
- Matthew720, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6You must be one of the people who voted Bush into the white house TWICE. Did you? The point I'm about to make here is not a partisan one, but rather, a point about how some people just don't GET what's in front of their own eyes. It seems that reading comprehension or perhaps just comprehension in general is what got us into the mess we're in today. You missed the point of the article just like the current 25% of the country is missing the ***** this administration is, from illegal wiretaps, to Iraq, to Haliburton's no bid contracts and Haliburton's supplying the troops with contaminated water while the taxpayer foots the bill.
- TearsofaClown, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6like have photo ops in a ***** crisis zone.
- owenadam, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Why doesn't this graphic show the first six days after the attack? Now don't get me wrong, I think the guy is a tremendous douche. Really, He's a big *****, and yes, the graphic does effectively counter his earlier claim to have spent more time at the site as the rescue workers, but by not showing his involvement in the first few moments and days after the attack (the time frame that he wants people to remember and is running on) isn't the graphic just a little misleading?
- HunterTV, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Well, it IS a graphic file, technically... a graph with text supplement, so not strictly JUST a graph. Technically.
/file under "straws, grasping at" - shaelen, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4God.. how many of you zombies are there?
IT DOESN'T MATTER how long anybody, besides the cleanup crew, spent there.
Why do you see it as important? Does standing at ground zero somehow make the stander an important person? - smacksaw, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I've always noticed that when former liberals start paying taxes and earning money, they're so caught up in being part of the machine that they don't have the time or effort to really think deeply about things like this anymore.
The fact this article fails to register with you and you just dismiss it out of hand is what I am talking about.
I think it's great you have kids and you contribute, but not at the cost of your soul. Being liberal doesn't mean you have to be a tax-and-spend liberal. It just means you continue to have an open mind and use your brain every so often. Use it now and admit what a liar Rudy is. Honestly, it only took a few seconds to read the graph(ic) - guyinthechair, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Uh, hello! Everyone here wants Ron Paul to be our next president. You know, that no-income-tax guy?
- tehWyman, on 08/19/2009, -1/+4I'm not really upset that he was spending so little time at ground zero as much as I am that someone was recording every minute he spent of it...
- hcl40u, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Rudy is the only candidate leeching off as much has he can from 9/11.
- Matthew720, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Newt as in Gingrich? Wow just when I thought I've read the craziest thing on the interweb someone like you comes along and makes a ***** crazy statement like that. Why don't you just vote for McCain? He's not as mentally deranged as Newt.
- shaelen, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Please tell me why this matters? Standing at ground zero somehow makes someone better than another who never has?
- thrallie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Indygirl..you must be joking..right? Newt will not follow the constitution. I must mention that our country was not founded on Christian principles but by many different type of people. Some of our founding fathers were atheists, deists and Christians. But they all knew we have to separate church from state, and newt would do the opposite of that. Ron Paul, as much flak as he gets on abortion and separation of church and state would never federally mandate morals, prayer or church in the USA. Many people will disagree with me on that, but it's true. Just read his articles on lew rockwell.
- virtualball, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3To be completely fair, it really isn't his job to be standing there saying "Wow. What a tragedy." I'm actually surprised he was there for 29 hours. I know he's the mayor, but does the mayor of New York city go down to the subways every time one breaks? Or is Utah's governor digging for those coal miners? No. I know it's a different situation, but cut the guy some slack...
- shaelen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2This isn't about how much time he should have spent, it's about him trying to make himself look good by lying about how much time he spent there. How much time ANYBODY spent there (besides the cleanup crew) doesn't make any damn bit of difference, but trying to make himself look good by lying about it is lame.
- bigstinky, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5What really sucks is that "they" are going to make sure that this douche is going to be our next president. Look at those thin lips of his, he has what it takes.
- miriclaire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2But you're OK with him lieing and disrespecting the folks who WERE there?
- darkbob87, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4he is the mayor of one of the worlds largest cities...why would you expect him to be there longer than that he had a city to run and save from collapsing...
- schlurp, on 10/10/2007, -4/+6"to be fair" does not really apply to your comment since it has no relevance regarding his statements comparing his time and efforts there to that of the cleanup workers.
Proper uses would be:
"To be fair, he spent as much time there as the TV camera crews."
or
"To be fair, posing on the WTC ruins is what Guliani considers 'working'" - shaelen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2That still doesn't mean anything. What does it matter that ANYONE besides the cleanup crew were there or not? To pay respect? Why does one have to be there to pay respect?
I'm not knocking anyone who was there, I'm knocking the idea that it matters that anyone was there. - ScornedPatriot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Sorry for the book but people like Indygirl just blow my mind. Wow the ignorance is astonishing.
The US Government was NOT founded on Christian beliefs.
The Treaty of Tripoli - Authored by American diplomat Joel Barlow in 1796, the following treaty was sent to the floor of the Senate, June 7, 1797, where it was read aloud in its entirety and unanimously approved. John Adams, having seen the treaty, signed it and proudly proclaimed it to the Nation.
Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

Founding Father's Thoughts
George Washington - Every man, conducting himself as a good citizen, and being accountable to God alone for his religious opinions, ought to be protected in worshipping the Deity according to the dictates of his own conscience.
-- George Washington, letter to the United Baptist Chamber of Virginia, May 1789, in Anson Phelps Stokes, Church and State in the United States, Vol 1. p. 495, quoted from Albert J Menendez and Edd Doerr, The Great Quotations on Religious Freedom
"Sir, Washington was a Deist."
-- The Reverend Doctor James Abercrombie, rector of the church Washington had attended with his wife, to The Reverend Bird Wilson, an Episcopal minister in Albany, New York, upon Wilson's having inquired of Abercrombie regarding Washington's religious beliefs, quoted from John E Remsberg, Six Historic Americans

James Madison
"What influence, in fact, have ecclesiastical establishments had on society? In some instances they have been seen to erect a spiritual tyranny on the ruins of the civil authority; on many instances they have been seen upholding the thrones of political tyranny; in no instance have they been the guardians of the liberties of the people. Rulers who wish to subvert the public liberty may have found an established clergy convenient auxiliaries. A just government, instituted to secure and perpetuate it, needs them not." - A Memorial and Remonstrance, 1785
"Experience witnesseth that ecclesiastical establishments, instead of maintaining the purity and efficacy of religion, have had a contrary operation. During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What has been its fruits? More or less, in all places, pride and indolence in the clergy; ignorance and servility in the laity; in both, superstition, bigotry and persecution." - A Memorial and Remonstrance, 1785

John Adams
"As I understand the Christian religion, it was, and is, a revelation. But how has it happened that millions of fables, tales, legends, have been blended with both Jewish and Christian revelation that have made them the most bloody religion that ever existed?" - Dec. 27, 1816
"I almost shudder at the thought of alluding to the most fatal example of the abuses of grief which the history of mankind has preserved--the Cross. Consider what calamities that engine of grief has produced!" - letter to Thomas Jefferson
"What havoc has been made of books through every century of the Christian era? Where are fifty gospels, condemned as spurious by the bull of Pope Gelasius? Where are the forty wagon-loads of Hebrew manuscripts burned in France, by order of another pope, because suspected of heresy? Remember the 'index expurgatorius', the inquisition, the stake, the axe, the halter and the guillotine." - letter to John Taylor
"The priesthood have, in all ancient nations, nearly monopolized learning. And ever since the Reformation, when or where has existed a Protestant or dissenting sect who would tolerate A FREE INQUIRY? The blackest billingsgate, the most ungentlemanly insolence, the most yahooish brutality, is patiently endured, countenanced, propagated, and applauded. But touch a solemn truth in collision with a dogma of a sect, though capable of the clearest proof, and you will find you have disturbed a nest, and the hornets will swarm about your eyes and hand, and fly into your face and eyes." - letter to John Taylor

Thomas Jefferson
"It is not to be understood that I am with him (Jesus Christ) in all his doctrines. I am a Materialist; he takes the side of Spiritualism; he preaches the efficacy of repentence toward forgiveness of sin; I require a counterpoise of good works to redeem it. Among the sayings and discourses imputed to him by his biographers, I find many passages of fine imagination, correct morality, and of the most lovely benevolence; and others, again, of so much ignorance, so much absurdity, so much untruth, charlatanism and imposture, as to pronounce it impossible that such contradictions should have proceeded from the same being. I separate, therefore, the gold from the dross; restore him to the former, and leave the latter to the stupidity of some, the roguery of others of his disciples. Of this band of dupes and imposters, Paul was the great Coryphaeus, and the first corruptor of the doctrines of Jesus." - to W. Short, 1820
"The truth is, that the greatest enemies of the doctrine of Jesus are those, calling themselves the expositors of them, who have perverted them to the structure of a system of fancy absolutely incomprehensible, and without any foundation in his genuine words. And the day will come, when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the Supreme Being as his father, in the womb of a virgin, will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter." - to John Adams, Apr. 11, 1823

Benjamin Franklin
"I think vital religion has always suffered when orthodoxy is more regarded than virtue. The scriptures assure me that at the last day we shall not be examined on what we thought but what we did." - letter to his father, 1738
"I cannot conceive otherwise than that He, the Infinite Father, expects or requires no worship or praise from us, but that He is even infinitely above it." - from Articles of Belief and Acts of Religion, 1728
"I wish it (Christianity) were more productive of good works ... I mean real good works ... not holy-day keeping, sermon-hearing ... or making long prayers, filled with flatteries and compliments despised by wise men, and much less capable of pleasing the Deity." - Works, Vol. VII, p. 75
"If we look back into history for the character of the present sects in Christianity, we shall find few that have not in their turns been persecutors, and complainers of persecution. The primitive Christians thought persecution extremely wrong in the Pagans, but practiced it on one another. The first Protestants of the Church of England blamed persecution in the Romish Church, but practiced it upon the Puritans. They found it wrong in Bishops, but fell into the practice themselves both here (England) and in New England." - Benjamin Franklin - pintomp3, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5tancredo? huckabee? a couple of evolution deniers? seriously?
- yogione, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Whoa, that's slightly more time than it takes him to ditch a wife.
- badarabdad, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2you're hilarious.
- Calcularius, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I think every single minute of every day should be spent recording what these corrupt politicians are doing. That way, we can catch them when they're lying. Like now.
- Matthew720, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Hear that wooooooooooooshhhhhhh? That's the point of the article flying over your head.
