Fewer than two hundred operatives and officials, including [Secretary of Defense] Rumsfeld and General Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, were "completely read into the program," the former intelligence official said. The goal was to keep the operation protected. "We're not going to read more people than necessary into our heart of darkness," he said. "The rules are 'Grab whom you must. Do what you want.' " - inactive, on 02/29/2008, -1/+13When committing crimes against humanity, it's generally best to keep it quiet, from the criminal's perspective.

- rawg, on 02/29/2008, -0/+8from the article... “We’re giving the world a ready-made excuse to ignore the Geneva Conventions. Rumsfeld has lowered the bar.”
This reminds me of the twilight zone episode where a man appears at a woman's door and gives her a button. She's told that if she pushes the button she will receive $1 million dollars but someone, somewhere in the world will be instantly, painlessly killed. Someone she has never met.
She agonizes over the decision for a few days but eventually pushes the button. Immediately, the man returns to her door with the money but before he leaves she asks him what will happen to the button. He says, "we'll give it to someone else, someone that you've never met" - WoollyMittens, on 02/29/2008, -0/+8Torture only gets you false confessions. A tormented person will tell you anything you want him to. You won't get answers. Only enemies.
That the USA has sunk to this point is an excuse for every other vilian in power to abuse human rights. - jlhoben, on 02/29/2008, -0/+7These are war crimes. The Bush administration needs to be prosecuted for this.

- Delphium226, on 02/29/2008, -0/+4"The American public needs to understand we're talking about rape and murder here." - Senator Lindsey Graham (Republican, South Carolina) commenting on Abu Ghraib.
- Waiting2awake, on 02/29/2008, -1/+5Are you seriously ignorant to what America has done to cause this "blow back"?
Ohh I get it - "Islamo-Fascists", you're a troll. No one still buys that doublespeak, only the troglodytes bought it when it was fresh out of the chimps mouth to begin with. - licnyc, on 02/29/2008, -1/+4Lets not invade countries that had nothing to do with terrorist and lets not stoop to the level of terrorist with torture because we are americans and better than that. Lets go after the actual terrorist and lets stop listening to people who obviously have no idea but just want to beat something up.
/ democrat - licnyc, on 02/29/2008, -0/+3Decent people understand the difference between justice and torture. You sound exactly like al qaeda (thank allah there are still a few people that know how to get the job done), Secondly Iraqis had nothing to do with terrorist, the article says the prison was setup for the counter insurgency in Iraq- so fail. And last he never actually stopped the counter insurgency or al qaeda even with torture. So you couldn't be more wrong on so many levels. You may now continue to burn alley cats or kick stray dogs or whatever it is rancid immoral people like yourself do.
- GhostyBoy, on 02/29/2008, -0/+3Check out 9/11: Press for truth
It's an incredible documentary about the 9/11 families and there struggle for an investigation. - Waiting2awake, on 02/29/2008, -0/+3Such as?
- Delphium226, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2If all you have is a lame ad hominem attack instead of a coherent response, you're the one who's obviously the intellectual midget.
- employeeno5, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2The New Yorker rules, consistently.
My subscription to the New Yorker is second only to my subscription to Netflix in cost/value ratio.
One of the best consumer choices I've ever made.
Even articles that are on a topic I'm sure I'll have no interest in, if I'm stuck with nothing else to read and check it out, it always ends up being something fascinating, exciting and a blast to read. Don't even get me started on the fiction and personal histories; I'm libel to get aroused. - GhostyBoy, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2I like how this guy unintentionally lends credibility to conspiracy theories by being so misinformed. People who crawl out of the woodwork screaming about "tin-foil hats" are often the same guys who use terms like "moonbat liberals". Really it's nothing more than bigotry against intellectualism.
- Delphium226, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2Remind me again, which party had the majority in all arms of government for 7 years and completely failed to catch bin Laden and managed turn Iraq and Afghanistan into a giant cluster ***** through complete incompetence?
However, seeing as you haven't got it by now, you're obviously mentally subnormal. - Delphium226, on 02/29/2008, -1/+3Yet you republicans let bin Laden get away free. Despite your bravado, you're all pretty ***** useless and incompetent
- inactive, on 02/29/2008, -3/+4I guess you've been getting your news from Mad magazine.
At least, that's what your comments lead us to believe. - inobla, on 02/29/2008, -2/+3Wrong. 911 was not an inside job. seomike provided some good links that aren't loaded with the ***** you're likely used to reading.
- 99CentFreedom, on 02/29/2008, -8/+9Let's just get out of there and end this -constitutionally illegal- war, bring our troops home and bring that money home, let the Iraqis deal with their own problems. Dr. Ron Paul is the -ONLY- candidate left that will actually do this.
- ProjectGSX, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1Great article, thanks for psoting. note the date, though.. this isnt recent news.
- RayG68, on 03/03/2008, -0/+1WE must make it happen. worldcantwait.org
- inactive, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1This actually occurred on the republican/conservative watch. What have you to say now, wise ass?
- rawg, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1Torturer #1: We made mistake. This guy doesn't know anything. How are we going to justify what we did to him?
Torturer #2: No problem. We'll just torture him until we get a confession. - inactive, on 03/02/2008, -0/+1the plane didn't hit the thermite levels.
- RayG68, on 03/03/2008, -0/+1Like the episode of the Simpsons where Bart convinces Homer that a rock has kept bears from attacking them. But talking about sexual thrills, those soldiers sure did get one out of torturing naked detainees -- and you have NO problem with that.
- rajid, on 03/02/2008, -0/+1I would dig this comment multiple times if I could! I'm doubting it'll happen, of course, because all of our politicians these days are wusses.
- RayG68, on 03/03/2008, -0/+1If you don't know, admit it. You can't say "9-11 = inside job" because you can't know. If you have good questions, or you see inconsistencies then say that. But stop preaching these "conspiracy notions" (technically they can't be called theories) because it won't get anyone anywhere. And it diverts people from the underlying dynamics and basis of this empire, because that is what it is. A handful of people cannot control this country, or any.

- Waiting2awake, on 03/02/2008, -1/+2Care to answer the question?
- LoJack, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1We gota waterboard you diggers for hanging our dirty laundry out in the open for the world to see. Now we can't bash China for human right abuse. Happy now, mother fu_kers?
- inactive, on 02/29/2008, -3/+3You are a ***** retard. I guess it's too easy to believe dumb ***** now-a-days.

http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/militar ... - rawg, on 02/29/2008, -1/+1I can understand why the military would need special tactical authority or secrecy to accomplish their mission but they must do so with the full awareness of what they are doing and with the expectation that they will ultimately be held accountable for their actions. Hopefully, with the vindication that the ends did truly justify the means. Otherwise, things like Abu Ghraib happen.
- Waiting2awake, on 02/29/2008, -1/+1No you don't. You fall under the category of fearing poverty stricken people that have no hope of attacking you but with merely the accusation that people hate you for a nonsensical reason, you will allow yourself to be spied on, and give away the wealth and birthright of your children and grandchildren for said fear.
But hey, think of yourself as Rambo if it helps. - GhostyBoy, on 02/29/2008, -1/+1Controlled demolition so far is the strongest hypothesis for why 3 buildings fell that day. For your consideration:
a) The buildings fell at nearly free-fall speed. With tons of steel supporting the building it is unlikely that they would have offered virtually no slow down or resistance to collapse.
http://www.glenbrook.k12.il.us/gbssci/phys/Class/n ...
b) Never before in history has a steel framed building collapsed due to fire, yet on 9/11 it happened 3 times in one day.
http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va& ...
c) Building 7 (the most blatant smoking gun) was not hit by a plane, yet still imploded at nearly free-fall speed, straight down later on that day.
http://www.betterbadnews.com/2006/04/11/popularity ...
d) Up to six weeks after the collapse, pools of molten metal were found in the rubble of all three buildings, suggesting the possibility of the use of the compound thermate or thermite, commonly used in controlled demolition.
http://www.mindfully.org/Reform/2006/911-Thermite- ...
e) The name of the company that did the clean-up after 9/11 was called Controlled Demolition Inc. They were one of the very few companies liscenced to perform a controlled demolition, and they were key players in getting rid of the rubble (evidence) at ground zero. http://911review.com/coverup/groundzero.html
This is just the tip of the iceberg. The case for controlled demolition remains both strong and plausible. - bluesnowmonkey, on 02/29/2008, -1/+1Yeah, that was in the article. Thanks for quoting it. I couldn't figure out how to click the huge link at the top of the page.
- inactive, on 03/01/2008, -1/+1 Stop living in denial. hopeless you are.
- inactive, on 03/01/2008, -1/+1Thermite burns at about 4000 degrees. However to get it lit you need something extremely hot. Matches and even blasting caps aren't hot enough. You need something that burns about 2000 degrees like a magnesium strip. Since half your links say the flames don't even get that high then how the hell did it light. Even if jet fuel burning could do it the fact of the matter is THIS once lit it takes seconds for it to burn even in large quantities. You could melt through a car in just a few seconds or cut through a steel beam in seconds. So explain to me how a thermite charges didn't melt the ***** beams right after the crash? If thermite was in that building the planes would have hit it and literally 10 sec after that building would have gone down.
- inactive, on 03/01/2008, -1/+1Moon bat liberals are real. Ever been to digg.com? That place is infested!!

- Roger_Ramjet, on 02/29/2008, -2/+0Still gnawing on that bone, are we? You guys must get some sort of sexual thrill out of it. Meanwhile, we're over 2200 days without a terrorist attack on US soil. And the last three letters of my capcha say it best ... B.F.D.
- inactive, on 02/29/2008, -3/+1What makes you think you are so great?
- aadyss, on 03/01/2008, -2/+0Maybe it's your fault since you wish it to be that way. It's also your fault the stock market is down, the dollar is in the dumps etc. Is there anything else you would like to take the blame for? I'm sure you have the ability to blame America for everything. Is there anything in your mind that is good in America. If so, I would like to hear from you.
- SuperVepr308, on 02/29/2008, -3/+1Spot on, Captain. I fall under option 2
- inactive, on 02/29/2008, -3/+0And what job were we doing on 9/11/2001 that caused those poor unfortunate Islamo-fascists to kill 3,000 innocent Americans?
- inactive, on 02/29/2008, -4/+0Such a small mind. I can see why you have such a difficult time seeing the big picture.
