- Nannybell, on 01/12/2008, -0/+8More Nazi judges and bureaucrats. I like what she said about not sending her children to a school where Jesus is not welcome. That is a very important point and should be pondered and prayed about by all Christian parents who send their kids to the increasingly Godless public schools.
- LifeguardMom, on 01/12/2008, -0/+7Mr. Johansen is an embarrassment as a judge. His personal prejudices are abominable. It's obvious that the public schools have judges in their back pockets. With situations like this happening more often, along with stupid laws like SB777 in California, and the SWAT team violating the parent's rights in Colorado, you will see a lot more parents pulling their kids out of government schools and homeschooling. I am just starting the 2nd semester of my 19th year of homeschooling, and I hope that more parents would honestly consider doing the same. Yes it is a HUGE commitment of time, but it is worth it. All of my kids are in college (my youngest is both homeschooled and attending a local community college) and they are mature, well-rounded people who know more about history, geography and literature than the vast majority of their peers. Homeschooling is what will save the future of our children.
- american1, on 01/12/2008, -0/+6Apparently, the officials of this government Utah school district are afraid of competing in the free market place of ideas with a mere individual home schooling parent. Given this insecurity by the school district, and the extremely heavy-handed intimidation brought by them against the parent, I have to conclude that this particular government ("public") school system is severely deficient. If they had an adequate educational product to market, the school district officials would not be so obviously paranoid about a little competition by the home schooling parent in this matter.
Ronald Etters - inactive, on 01/12/2008, -0/+5Lifeguard Mom, I am with you on homeschooled children. My brother (Retired Army CWO) homeschooled his two boys from Kindergarten to ninth grade. They were in the top 2% percentile in the nation and taking college level courses as freshmen in high school. I believe most parents would love to homeschool their children because the children are not getting a well rounded education in the schools of today. I blame parents, teachers, students and the U.S. Department of Education for this fiasco that has gone on far too long. There is a huge amount of paperwork required by the Department of Education, which should not exist, School Boards and Principals of the schools which requires and wastes valuable time which could be used for tutoring students. Moreover, there is a huge amount of teacher? who are NOT qualified or prepared to teach. I do not know anything about "No Child Left Behind", but I do hear it does require a bunch of paperwork and testing the students in order to appease the Department of Education. Education of children should be local. I mean neighborhood PTA local! Bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. do NOT know beans about anything in regard to educating children of the local neighborhood in Podunk, USA or anywhere else in the country. It's just bureaucratic BS for committees to draw up statistical pie charts and graphics in order to further their BS presentations showing their BS need for existance to the department heads and on and on etcetara. Perhaps the HOMESCHOOLERS can draw up a petition to receive pay from the government for homeschooling their children rather than throwing the money down the drain to worthless schools and unqualified teachers. ALL the educators think more money will turn everything around. The problem is the money is NOT for TEACHERS of our CHILDREN, our most precious assets, the money goes for books written by the numbnuts of the sixties which is one of the MAIN problems with our schools of today...and our colleges who are teaching ideological garbage of Marxism, Socialism and erasing American History. Education in our country is a HUGE MESS, Lifeguard Mom and praise you and GOD for your extraordinary accomplishments. P.S. Petition on the Internet for a vote then present it to the U.S. Department of Education.
- nippinawassee, on 01/12/2008, -0/+3Regardless of the situation, whenever you are required to fill out a form and return it, always hand deliver, WITH A COPY SHOWING A RECEIVED SIGNATURE ON THE BOTTOM FOR YOUR FILES. Insist they sign it and the same goes for anything that can affect your life in a negative way should it be government or private. Unfortunately for the citizens of this country, some of us have been lulled into believing that the government is FOR US - that the government is here to protect and serve US... doesn't take a rocket scientist to read all the articles on WND to realize that it's just the opposite - for the past 35 years, this country has been trained to fall into line - by little buzz words designed to shut up the citizen who speaks out - by many things. Now we're really starting to see the results of citizens NOT standing up to the people THEY put into office and demanding accountability - letting them know we're not really at all happy with the way they've loused up this country and also remind them just WHO they actually work for - WHO put them in office and also WHO can take them out of that office. Frankly, the citizens of both parties should band together to let them know WE ARE NOT HAPPY WITH YOUR PERFORMANCE OR LACK THEREOF. I would bet that should citizens take a stance such as this, we MAY get results - if nothing else, when the first chief sitonbutt gets voted OUT of office, THEN maybe the others will take note. Flyers with the words in big block letters: WE GOT RID OF SEN. SO AND SO AND WE CAN GET RID OF YOU! Too long we have been groveling and bowing to these wannabee kings/queens - they're your best bud until they get elected and then they are elevated to royalty status wherein you have to beg for a meeting... This needs to stop. We should be able to walk in and say: need to talk to my congressman now... and have it happen.
just think: we could take back OUR country!! - Christianptriot, on 01/14/2008, -0/+3I guess the fact that my previous comment about free thinkers was Dugg down is proof that liberals and the mainstream media really DON'T want free thinkers to mess up their world.
- davpatt3, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2This is a spiritual battle, folks (those who understand) ! What you observe in news is a result of the core issue. If you don't fear God and rely on His mercy to help against the forces evil then we will be oppressed by tyrants. The godless will always sacrifice the individual (individual freedom) for the good of the collective ( in their philosophy). They belive they will produce more "utopia" if all would just conform to the collective. The education system has always been a chief tool for this end. It brings people together, it brings them into an isolated setting which is highly controllabe, and it can indoctrinate the young. With the average level of competence now produced across the country, it is far easier than ever to improve the lieracy level of our children. The United States has been at war since its birth and still is. The enemy is the God haters inside the country. "When the wicked are in power, the people groan under the oppression." Prvb 29.2
- inactive, on 01/13/2008, -0/+2I say 3 cheers! for Bob Unruh, the WND writer who brought this horrible, unamerican situation to light. And, to everybody who responded in some way; you joined with all the patriots throughout history in refusing facism and tyranny and pushed it back under the rock from which it crawled out of (well, maybe that's a little melodramatic, but you know what I mean).
As for this malfeasant, mockery of a judge. Hearing his corrupt words and seeing his picture again has restirred a real bad emotion and it would be a sin, and probably illegal to say how I feel about him. I just hope he remembers this affair when he "reaps the whirlwind". - drachemorder, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2You probably got buried because "free-thinker" is quite often used as a euphemism for "atheist" these days. I understand the point you were making, but I bet a lot of others didn't.
- inactive, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2Charges against her stemmed from what she has described as a paperwork mixup. She says she faxed a required notification of her homeschooling plans to her local school district; officials there say they never received it.
If I had a dollar every time some idiot said the same to me (oh I didn't get your fax) I could retire.
When dealing with idiots like this one should send everything important CERTIFIED so the IDIOTS have to sign for it and then keep the green return receipt to shove under their nose(or somewhere else) when they claim they never got it. - inactive, on 01/16/2008, -0/+1She said she didn't want to send her kids to a place where God wasn't welcome. What are her kids gonna do when they go out and find that it's a non-christian world?
- inactive, on 01/16/2008, -0/+1He's a freethinker because God told him he was a freethinker.
- P4PCommittee, on 01/13/2008, -0/+1Dear WND,
We, THE COMMITTEE, ( People-4-People), a Canadian organization, located in the golden horseshoe area of Southern Ontario, can't help but feel we may have played a small part, in the correction of the injustice towards the Mafi family, by Judge Scott Johansen, down there in Carbon County.
This story came across our desks some time ago, and we wrote some articles bringing the Home School Legal Defense Association, to the attention of Ms. Mafi. We guess the connection was established and the HSLDA got right on Ms. Mafi's case, once again bringing truth, justice, and the American way to the Family Courts in Carbon County.
Please forgive our hubris, as we boast the rather small, yet crucial role we played in this matter. This is what our organization is all about. This is what we do. This is who we are, and we are quite proud of the seemingly insignificant part we may have played. - Christianptriot, on 01/13/2008, -5/+1Free-thinking children who can reason and understand without being told what to think or what to decide are a threat to the One World or New World Order that is rapidly gaining a foothold in this country. This is only the first of many times the ultra-liberal faction of our judiciary and our government will try this. we MUST stand against it at every turn.
