- SheilaNoya, on 03/23/2008, -16/+194In the past, I never used to donate money to politicians, but after 7 years of George W. Bush and what has happened to our country, I now feel that this is money well spent. We don't just "want" Obama - We "need" Obama at this point in history.
- saska, on 03/23/2008, -14/+107I think you know I'm not the negative type when it comes to Obama.
And without a doubt this counter shows that there have been nearly a million more donations since the million milestone was reached.
However, when this counter was on the front page, it was often adjusted, presumably to keep track of new donors vs. repeat donors. The campaign hasn't been publicizing this counter and I would take it with a grain of salt:
It *could* mean that there have been almost a million first-time donors since the milestone.
Or, if it isn't being adjusted for new vs. repeat, it *could* mean that there have been almost a million more unique donations, but not unique donors since the milestone.
Just saying. - Krisgi, on 03/23/2008, -9/+84The idea that Obama is nearly 100% financially-supported by everyday Americans, and that the sum quantity of this support is far superior to Clinton's capacity to inspire mere mortals to give to her and thus depends largely on Big Business and her wealthy friends and self, is one of the factors that will be taken into consideration in this race. Donate. Even if it's 25 dollars. Most people have given small sums that always make a difference.
- noahgelman, on 03/23/2008, -6/+70I kinda want to donate just so I can see the number total go up and be like "That number is just for me" and then feel special
- argaen21, on 03/23/2008, -4/+45I'd say thats a fair assessment.
- imgstacke, on 03/23/2008, -3/+43Adjusted or not 1million donations in less then a month is HUGE.
- peticsu, on 03/23/2008, -6/+35I donated right after he gave the speech
- theaceoffire, on 03/23/2008, -2/+31If Bush could talk like this, he wouldn't be ridiculed as much.
Not that you care, based on your past comments. - Ajajadude, on 03/23/2008, -3/+22You're kidding, right? I don't even know how to respond to something as ridiculous as that. Bush couldn't speak better than a 2nd grader.
- saska, on 03/23/2008, -3/+21It's up to 1,999,525 now. It'll crest 2 million today, I'd wager. I hope to hear something from the campaign on Monday or Tuesday when they come back from the Easter break.
- str1fe, on 03/23/2008, -2/+191 million -new- donors.
- Adamness, on 03/23/2008, -5/+22Sorry everyone, this isn't true:

"Obama aides say the graphic is inaccurate, due to a technical glitch. Clearly the frame is out of date, but that automated ticker does seem to be ticking something. I'll add more detail if I get it." - RedNote, on 03/23/2008, -4/+20Aw, look. It's a bitter Paulsie. Sorry you never polled above double digits, little guy. Maybe next time!
- str1fe, on 03/23/2008, -5/+20Some inexperience, eh Hillary? How many donors have you had this month?
- dlawrence, on 03/23/2008, -3/+18I don't make a whole lot of money, but I donated to this campaign and feel proud because of it.
- FatLoser, on 03/23/2008, -4/+19Please don't take this the wrong way, but I was driving down the street yesterday when I saw one of the last Ron Paul signs in a yard. I couldn't help but remember how fervent everybody seemed about Ron Paul a few months ago, and how suddenly he disappeared from Digg and all media in general. Is he out? Did people realize he had no chance and decide to side with Obama? Weird how people got so excited about him, and then now nothing.
- inactive, on 03/23/2008, -1/+15^ buried with the original.
- motivatedmama, on 03/23/2008, -3/+17I count as a "unique donor" As the fund raising programs (Buy Obama a Beer for St. Patty's) become more public, it becomes easier for first time donors to do so. I like the fact that they appreciate the smaller donations. It's a great point to be able to make, that your campaign is supported by just plain ol' people.
The Stephen Colbert Hillary vs. Obama , PA. school fund raiser is genius!
Either way is helps. Fund the campaign directly, elect Obama and he will work to improve our broken educational system.
Send through Colbert's site - wild, on 03/23/2008, -4/+17Less than 500 to go. I am going to sit around refresh, then finish my donation so I can be number 2 million.
- consciousman, on 02/23/2009, -7/+19Great news
I also have donated money to Obama campaign for the first time and I will continue to do so. - inactive, on 03/23/2008, -1/+13And I second his assessment of your assessment.
- RedNote, on 03/23/2008, -8/+20The graphic's broken, guys. They took it off the main site a long time ago, and it just ticks up by a certain amount every so often. Nothing to get terribly excited over.
- MoofTheStoof, on 03/23/2008, -4/+16Imagine your chagrin when he wins...
- StopMakingSense, on 03/23/2008, -0/+11Guys, the image is BROKEN. At one point it eclipsed and far out counted the graphic for total donors in the campaign (2007 and 2008). That would mean he had more donors in just 2008 than in 2007 and 2008, which is completely impossible.
- SpinningHead, on 03/23/2008, -2/+13I think the biggest difference is that he went into public service rather than a lucrative law practice and he is not taking PAC money. Hes bought and paid for by the people. He works for us. The numbers of young people getting involved because of him also gives us a new kind of electorate that have enough wait to start holding politicians accountable. I was always a cynic before this campaign
- asdfkane, on 03/23/2008, -5/+15Who's Ron Paul?
;) - saska, on 03/23/2008, -1/+11I think that's what I said. ;)
- saska, on 03/23/2008, -1/+11Ben Smith at Politico notes that a campaign aide told him that the counter is not accurate due to a "glitch." I assume that this has to do with the question of individual donations vs. individual donors as noted above. Now that it's getting coverage I assume we will get a clarification in short order.
http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0308/Closin ... - zephyear, on 03/23/2008, -1/+10"i don't like this politician therefore every (positive) post about him is spam"
- Vermifax, on 03/23/2008, -2/+11"One million utterly utterly naive people."
Bush/Cheney voters. Whaddyagonnado? - robthom, on 03/23/2008, -1/+10Care to elaborate? Or are you just another one note ***** talker "like bush"?
- saska, on 03/23/2008, -1/+9Whoa. A transmission from an alternate reality!
- revolute, on 03/23/2008, -3/+11what's amazing about the number (be it first-time or repeat donors) is that it reflects the populist theme of the campaign -- every $5 counts. About a month ago the campaign mentioned it's average donation was only $60 (or perhaps that was the mean). As each citizen can only donate up to $2k or so in total, this leaves plenty of room for more donations to roll in bit by bit, as the Dem contest rolls on into the summer.
- enclaved, on 03/23/2008, -2/+10I like how you called Ron Paul third party
- ndnspongebob, on 03/23/2008, -5/+13the support wasnt enough, the options left are obama, clinton and mccain, and its pretty easy to see who is the better candidate
- Kratos76, on 03/23/2008, -2/+10Bush could never even get his ***** talking straight. - oh, and masterwalls you a retarded.
- cheezintern, on 03/23/2008, -3/+10The is really the first political campaign I feel is worth donating for. I mean, look at the alternatives. Obama needs to get elected, or it's time to start shopping for some property in Canada.
- elipabst, on 03/23/2008, -0/+7I gave you Ron Paul people a lot of ***** during the height of the Ron Paul spam days, but to be honest I have a lot of respect for him. The man is a real asset to this country and frankly we need more people like him in Congress.....on both sides of the aisle. I hope he sticks with his message.
- purag66, on 05/13/2009, -2/+9If Barrack is Lord Obama, what's Bush? Jar Jar Binks?
- motivatedmama, on 03/23/2008, -1/+8Poop! ...Send through Colbert's site, support your candidate in PA. where it counts AND help provide a better education for kids.
- yosserhughes, on 03/23/2008, -4/+11"according to some political watchdog group "
Geez, I'll take that to the bank! - OsirisO, on 03/23/2008, -1/+8Reality check: Obama has raised more than McCain and Clinton together. :D
- ndnspongebob, on 03/23/2008, -4/+11how is this spam? this never made sense to me. people were writing before..oh its ron paul spam...so if you dont support a candidate, its just considered spam? this isn't your email account, you do know that right? ...do you?
- archiesteel, on 03/24/2008, -1/+8"Why is Obama different? Because he said so? Or because he refuses to do any interviews to actually answer any questions? --- This is an honest question."
I wouldn't call that an honest question. I'd call that a loaded question, since you already provide two choices, which both have negative connotations.
It's obvious to anyone who looks at this objectively that Obama is indeed of a different style than conventional candidates. He's articulate, dignified, and talks to us like adults, not children - while still having an impressive legislative record. There's your honest answer. - rficwizard, on 03/23/2008, -3/+10We are still excited about him (and his message), he just cannot win this Presidential race. He is still in Congress, and still promoting good ideas. His health care plan is simple and brilliant, and it has the twin benefits that 1) It would actually work, and 2) it doesn't require growth of the federal government. Unfortunately, the latter point means that it will not be implemented.
- CocoaPuffs23, on 03/23/2008, -0/+7Shadows are all wrong.
- babar77, on 03/23/2008, -2/+8I just have to say this is a very old argument, and considering this last couple of weeks where he answered everything the Chicago newspapers wanted to know, released all earmarks, tax returns, etc, gave a 40 minute speech on his dealings with Rev Wright and race, there's no friggin possible way you could say he doesn't answer questions unless a) you have your head in the sand or b) you're a troll.
- StopMakingSense, on 03/23/2008, -2/+8Because it is illegal.
- PoonGnarfler, on 03/23/2008, -3/+9Because you're Canadian. But don't worry, if Hillary wins I'll probably be joining you up there in a little bit.
- saska, on 03/23/2008, -0/+6Yeah, let's see some diggers put their money where their diggs are. Here's the link to the fundraiser where you can choose the candidate to donate in honor of. All the dough goes to specific projects that you pick in PA schools:
