- WiseWeasel, on 10/10/2007, -9/+106Screw the pandering bitch! Beware of any legislation sold as 'for the children'...
- spazmire11, on 10/19/2007, -5/+93wait you mean to tell me if little Johny buys gta the seller would get PUNISHED?
WERE IS THE JUSTICE?
i mean if Johny is a normal eight year old he would convince his moronic parents to buy the game for him..... - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -11/+93Hillary is just another Bush, but on a heavy dose of estrogen........
- PeppermintPig, on 10/10/2007, -6/+87They're all about curbing fantasy depictions of violence, but when it comes to real war, people like Clinton and Lieberman are all in favor of such engagements. Maybe the average citizen needs a video feed to see what's happening in the REAL WORLD, like, say, Iraq... at least these statists are consistent with one thing, they lust after censorship, parading around their illegitimate power, trying to appear as if their words on paper are preventing kids from experiencing the world, or acquiring a violent game.
- doogies, on 10/10/2007, -6/+52she thinks like Jack Thompson http://youtube.com/watch?v=-XtWV-tIeVg&v3
- Minutemanjones, on 10/10/2007, -26/+64I absolutely agree on the Ron Paul as a better choice.
- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -7/+37Well, I'm pretty sure Hillary has balls, unlike Bush.
- Kurisuku, on 10/10/2007, -1/+31I never understood why people are so insane about this issue. My Mom bought me any videogame I wanted, regardless of rating, when I was as young as 5 -- If not even younger. She claims she bought me an Atari when I was 2, but I don't remember that far back.
Regardlessly, I got the original Mortal Kombat when it leaked a few days early on Genesis, and I wasn't even 15 yet at that point. My Mom's opinion was that, simply, "It's a game, it isn't real. You see worse on TV." It's true, too. I didn't grow up to rip out anyone's heart.
What's with the insanity over childhood censorship? Kids know this ***** isn't real, I don't care if they're 3. They're smart enough to know. People don't give kids enough credit. - zweben, on 10/10/2007, -1/+26Agreed. There are only 3 candidates who voted against the war and against the patriot act. Just 3.
Kucinich, Gravel, and Paul. All the other candidates are just varying flavors of the same style of government we have now. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -12/+36Anyone's better than Hilary.
- ViRaZ, on 10/10/2007, -9/+32Because we like our Constitution.
- EmperorAwesome, on 10/10/2007, -3/+24Please Please Please don't vote for any of the closeted dictators running under the democrat banner this election. I'm usually not that political but the outcome of the next election will have a HUGE impact on the everyday life of the private citizen. If one of them gets into office, it'll be like Bush all over again, and America will be one giant California in no time. Sane adults should not be told what they can and cannot do, this individualism was the founding principle of our country, it frightens me that there are masses out there who would willingly vote for an infringement on their freedom.
- onewingedangel9, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21It's overprotectionism, the same thing that causes certain schools to ban the playing of tag. If you can imagine a kid injuring themselves in some way (physically or mentally), the officials will try to ban it to make it look like they're doing something worthwhile.
- Kurisuku, on 10/10/2007, -5/+25Holy *****, did you really compare alcohol to a VIDEOGAME!?
If a minor drinks alcohol his or her life could, very easily, be in danger. Amongst other problems dealing with their physical well being.
If a minor plays a mature videogame, chances are realistically that nothing bad will happen, period. - bennypenny, on 10/10/2007, -4/+23Agree. Cracking down on fantasy violence is a cheap way of seeming to do something worthwhile, when all you're doing is avoiding the real issues - like real war - and hurting people who've done nothing wrong.
- badjoke, on 10/10/2007, -7/+25Shut. Up.
- vwvan, on 10/10/2007, -3/+21Hillary is like your mom. If she doesn't like it, you might get hairy knuckles.
- BelXul, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17In addition, it has been demonstrated many times over that video game violence actually decreases the chances that someone would become physically violent. True, there are a few people out there who's aggression cannot be satisfied by virtual violence, and in fact get inspiration for violent acts from the games they play, but that is the exception, rather than the rule. On the whole, most gamers take their feelings out on pixels and polygons, rather than peers.
- Pureeviljester, on 10/10/2007, -3/+18i dun know, Hillary and Giuliani are pretty much even bad choices.
If they are picked as candidates, i'll vote for Ind. - neodorian, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17You know, it's this stuff that makes it impossible for me to vote for Hillary. I'm an independent and lately tend to vote democratic, but I'm just as annoyed with the "get in your media to save the children" when it comes from Dems as I am am when it comes from Repubs. The only way I'd vote for her is if she was up against a Giuliani or Romney type. If it comes to that, video games are the least of my worries.
- shiftkgb, on 10/10/2007, -4/+19I'm pretty sure Bush has balls, as much as people might disagree with him, he's kept the same stance mostly.
- supaklaw, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14The ACT does not ban the games... it fines the sellers, and hasn't been enforced although I happen to think it's a good law. Little 12 yr old turds aren't supposed to be playing adult games, period. Sorry, there are games, they work on Jimmy's platform, it doesn't mean he gets to own them. But weak backboned parents who want their kids to shut up buy them and forget about it. And it's not that I think the games cause violence, it's that when I work 50 hours per week, buy Halo2 with my own money, pay for Xbox Live with my own money, and little turds like Jimmy who didn't pay a cent can get online and cheat until their account is suspended and then nag their parents for another one make me wish this was enforced and Spanky has to play Smurfs instead.
- revenge7, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15Republicans: "Terrorism terrorism 9/11 Iraq terrorism fight them there don't fight them here."
- DaLukeMan, on 10/10/2007, -7/+20thank god noone votes for women
- ktrout153, on 10/10/2007, -16/+29This is simply astro-turfing again. Lets spin things to make the opponent look bad.
Shouldn't stores that sell alcohol to minors be held accountable for breaking the law? This is the same thing. You guys should be arguing about whether the rating should be on the game in the first place, not the enforcement of the system.
It is about time someone actually holds people accountable for breaking the law. - JonForTheWin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13That's rudy who's the cross-dresser you ***** retard.
- byrdgang, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13I totally agree, but try your best to sabotage Clinton and Giuliani's campaigns. I know I am.
- AoiTakuma, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11its not illegal for a minor to play a mature game, just like it isnt illegal to watch an R rated movie before youre 17. The ratings are used to help uninformed consumers about that games, they are suggestions not laws.
buying alcohol before youre 21 is illegal. the 21 drinking age is a law not a suggestion. so they are not comparable retard - phirestyle, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13Hillary can go bite nuts for all I care.
Guess what? if your children are ***** up, it's not because of the mature video games, it's lack of parental guidance. - JonForTheWin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11He will have the same stance on Wednesday as he did on Monday, no matter what happened on Tuesday.
- 35263526, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11'By the way, the insistence on calling all the male candidates of either party by their full name or last name, yet calling Ms. Clinton by her first name, is pure mysoginistic bigotry.' -
Bull. She's referred to as Hillary because it'd be confusing to many to do it any other way given who her husband was. - fuzzmeister, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10I like Obama, but "o8ama!" just makes me cringe.
- vypergts, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Duh, voters have such short memories... These are the same people who pushed for PA stickers on CDs and ineffective, confusing TV ratings back in the 80s and 90s.
- rationalist, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12No, he compared enforcing the law which prohibits sale of alcohol to minors, to enforcing the law which prohibits sale of adult-rated videogames to minors. If you have an issue with the prohibition itself, don't blame lawmakers who are merely setting standards for enforcement of the law.
- tech42er, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Democrat or Republican, don't elect anyone who will run your life, prohibit freedom, etc. It's asinine. Especially don't settle for any legislation to 'protect the children'. That's just a way of disguising taking away our rights.
You know why marijuana was originally banned? Yellow journalism that accused Mexican laborers of selling it to children, where the children would then go insane or become very violent. It's like what's happening to violent video games and pornography now. 'We must take away your rights so we can protect the children from moral corruption'. *****. We don't need the government 'protecting' them.
And when they're done with the children, they'll go right on 'protecting' the adults. That's why marijuana is illegal for everyone, and not just children. It's also why smoking is being banned. - Leo21k, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9If you are a kid and you want a mature rated game then get your parents to go with you to buy it...If your parents say no then thats their right as your parent to do so.
Dont like it? Grow up. - rationalist, on 10/10/2007, -6/+14I oppose HIllary Clinton's nomination, but this gets buried for inaccuracy. The bill in question sets levels of fines for those violating an existing law - it doesn't outlaw selling adult-rated videogames to minors *because that is already illegal*.
By the way, the insistence on calling all the male candidates of either party by their full name or last name, yet calling Ms. Clinton by her first name, is pure mysoginistic bigotry.
As I said, I oppose Clinton's nomination, but that doesn't mean I have to disrespect her just because she happens to have ovaries. - deadlikeoscar, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11"Because freedom is popular."
- shanelw24, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8The true power of the two party system in our government to date has been the general knowledge that only candidates from one of those parties will win. They achieve this due to tradition and exposure. Now the thought is, if i rebel and vote for a green or libertarian, im throwing my vote away. In this day and age, however, with youtube and digg and the power of information on the internet, maybe its time that we collectively take away the power of this system, so that our goverment works for us again, and we dont have to constantly worry about dictatorship in our democracy.
- Nowheredan, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9There is no law banning the sale of M rated games to minors, just like there is no law banning the sale of R-rated movies or tickets to minors. The MPAA is not a government organization, it's the movie industry self-regulating. Just like the ESRB is doing. The difference is that game retailers refuse to enforce the rules and frequently sell games to minors anyway.
- Yage2006, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11I hope she does not win the nomination or there is really no hope for the USA.
@ktrout153
Nobody has to spin things to make her look bad. She did that on her own. - MagicCake, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9If Hillary doesn't let me do what I want, then it's only fair someone stops her from doing what she wants, right?
- Uranium118, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7In politics, you never vote for the best, unfortunately, you must go with the least bad.
- BelXul, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10I think there are bigger things to worry about than what a person wears. For all I care he could conduct business in a grubby t-shirt and shredded jeans, so long as he abides by the Constitution.
- tech42er, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Both should be legal.
- tech42er, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Kurisuku, please. Are you honestly trying to tell em that anyone under 21 faces death from alcohol consumption. I do, however, agree that violent video games are even less dangerous.
- onewingedangel9, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Welcome to the real world, where there are many ridiculous laws. YOU can work to change them.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6The ESRB was created by the software industry so that it could regulate itself, as opposed to alcohol, which is controlled by the government, and it is a LAW that you can't sell alcohol to minors, but ratings (while seem to be enforced by every game store i've ever been to) are not law.
- spatulacity, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6What law?
The ESRB rating system has NO force of law behind it, and that's for a reason. The games industry enacted it for the same reason the movie industry enacted the MPAA rating system. Which also has NO force of law behind it. They are both completely industry-based self regulating organizations. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9What is with Democrats? Gore and his wife want only "clean" music and Hillary is against gamers. WTF?
