+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ - romistrub, on 02/22/2008, -7/+211Let me make something clear:
I did not condemn Obama for using someone else's words. I will not condemn Hillary for the same reason.
I *will*, however, condemn her for doing something herself which she deemed reprehensible.
The end. - Deadpixel1221, on 02/22/2008, -13/+163Unbelievable! Why doesn't the media pick up on ***** like this?
- jshayne, on 02/22/2008, -14/+113I wonder if John Edwards himself encouraged her to use that line - perhaps he's a co-chairman of her campaign as well. No?
- gwayo, on 02/22/2008, -3/+90This ain't nothing! What about lifting Bill circa 92 almost word-for-word in her closing statement? http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Hillary_channels ...
- Eiknujrac, on 02/22/2008, -4/+81Typical politics. It's exactly what I'm voting against.
- zKman, on 02/22/2008, -3/+65I think what we can realize from the response to Hillary's "xerox" comment at the debate and results of the Wisconsin primary is that this whole plagiarism thing is just a stupid non-issue.
- JohnnyKdiggs, on 02/22/2008, -11/+65Please stop being so hard on Hillary. She's very sensitive. You don't want to make her cry, do you?
//sarcasm - inactive, on 02/22/2008, -3/+57"What we saw in the final moments in that debate is why Hillary Clinton is the next president of the United States," spokesman Howard Wolfson said. " It was the moment she retook the reins of this race and showed women and men why she is the best choice."
Clinton strategist Howard Wolfson thinks Hillary's blatant plagiarism of John Edwards was her finest moment? Sad indeed.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=rEOjttmqIrc - rangermatt, on 02/22/2008, -4/+50Well ask yourself this question - if Obama lost 11 primaries in a row, would he be getting ANY media attention? You'd be hearing about him right now about as much as we hear from Huckabee....which isn't much. The fact that she's a Clinton means she'll always be getting plenty of attention. Funny how she has that built in advantage yet she's still dead in the water.
- goodnrg, on 02/22/2008, -5/+42It 's not only the hypocrisy of the plagiarism attack, it's the fact that this was made out to be a "spontaneous moment of true emotion" by all the media pundits who ate it up with a spoon.
- RansomHoldiay, on 02/22/2008, -3/+40or as hillary said, "if you watch the youtubes..."
- klco, on 02/22/2008, -2/+39I think thats the point... Hillary personally tried to make it an issue for Obama when she does it herself.
- BadseedJR, on 02/22/2008, -1/+36Obama was given permission and even asked to say what he said by the original speaker. It was all over Digg.
- skunksmellnice, on 02/22/2008, -1/+35The media does pick up on ***** like this. It was a statement released by Obama's campaign last night after the debates, and was immediately publicized on CNN, among others. This time, digg was behind the mainstream media by about 6-7 hours.
- saska, on 02/22/2008, -1/+30It doesn't pick up on it because the Obama campaign is not shouting it from the rafters.
And frankly, it's good that they aren't. It would mean they were stooping to her level. She'd twist it to claim they were acknowledging the original "Just words" speech was a mistake. It's up to those of us with brains to recognize it for hypocrisy. - wild, on 02/22/2008, -1/+30Um, I was watching Anderson Cooper last night after the debate, and they definitely talked about it. (The Obama campaign also sent out a response about this within 15 minutes of the end of the debate.)
What frustrates me is that the MSM is latching onto Hillary's "Change you can Xerox" line, which was the low point of the debate for her. I mean, she was booed and it came across as cheap and petty in the context it was given. Now its the headline on Yahoo news as a positive comment by her. - apersaud, on 02/22/2008, -4/+32"Change you can XEROX"
Most. Retarded. Line. Ever. - wild, on 02/22/2008, -0/+26Its funny. She is basically running as a xerox of her husband. And we all know there is quality lost when you make a xerox copy.
- gak001, on 02/22/2008, -4/+27Congrats - you don't have a legitimate argument so you have descended into name-calling. Another win for democracy.
- reuscel, on 02/22/2008, -7/+29http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJ7Cs3QvT3U
She is shameless. A vote for Hillary is a vote against integrity in our government, and I think we've had quite enough of that *****. - MonsterChaOS, on 02/22/2008, -0/+19Exactly!
- mrogi, on 02/22/2008, -7/+26Last week I plagiarized Bill Clinton when my wife caught me kissing a slut at a local bar. I looked my wife straight in the eye and told her. "I did not have sex with that woman."
- brstilson, on 02/22/2008, -1/+18It's not okay because Hillary criticized Obama for doing it, and then did it herself. Sort of like when a Republican votes for all kinds of anti-gay laws, and is then found trying to score some gay sex in an airport bathroom.
- damndj, on 02/22/2008, -1/+17Dugg up for making sense.
- simile, on 02/22/2008, -0/+15Edwards has not endorsed anyone yet.
- Thumper13, on 02/22/2008, -3/+18I agree with you. Nothing to this story. Just as it shouldn't have been with Obama's speech.
What disgusts me is the way she uses this function to show that she is human. SHE voted for the thing that caused many of our soldiers to have to go there. She shouldn't have been honored to be there. She SHOULD have been apologizing and asking for their forgiveness.
I don't know how people buy into her rehearsed rhetoric. It's disgusting to watch. - lamprey187, on 02/22/2008, -2/+16that wasn't her closing.........her closing was something to the effect: "regardless of what happens we will be all right, but I really hope the American people are all right......."........... partially lifted from Edwards and Bill Clinton. I would not call it plagiarism though, just as I would not have called Obama's phrases plagiarism either. This story is inaccurate and I did not digg it. The difference to be noted is that Obama did not call her out on this nor try to use this in his campaign by making some asinine Xerox comment.
- jerryterhorst, on 02/22/2008, -1/+15she uses her time as the first lady as "political experience", and yet her husband was on the forefront of helping internet technology become so prevalent. you think she'd know a thing or two about it by now.
- skeeterbug84, on 02/22/2008, -0/+13If someone motivates you to do something positive, doesn't that make them a good leader?
- inactive, on 02/22/2008, -0/+13heres a nice complete montage of all ehr plagiarism including the theft of Bill's
http://youtube.com/watch?v=rEOjttmqIrc - pintomp3, on 02/22/2008, -1/+13i knew the plagiarism accusations and the xerox comment would come back to bite her. didn't realize it would be the next morning. good work.
- inactive, on 02/22/2008, -13/+25lol plagiarized. I bet you could find that same meme going back to the early 20th. In fact I'm pretty sure I heard the same thing in the 2000 elections. She agreed with Edwards so she said the same. That's not plagiarism. I don't like Hillary or Obama but this is ridiculous. It's not unethical, it's not immoral, it's nothing. It's just two people saying the same thing in the same context.
- mywhitenoise, on 02/22/2008, -2/+14I don't like Hilary Clinton, but there really is a lot of sexism that isn't being recognized here (Which I admit, I do myself). That ***** would not fly if someone called Obama a "*****".
- mywhitenoise, on 02/22/2008, -2/+14It's different because Hilary made it a point that Obama "plagiarized" a few sentences...even though that hypocritical bitch did the same. Also, I'm pretty sure "YES WE WILL, YES WE WILL" is some form of plagiarism of Obama's "Yes we can".
- blackmage439, on 02/22/2008, -1/+12Yeah, I found that to be *****. It seems everyone in the MSM has already forgotten the person Obama "Xeroxed" ASKED him to "use [her] words."
Pathetic. Just another pail trying to stem the flooding of Hitlery's sinking ship. - rokinroj, on 02/22/2008, -2/+13Yes, I can see the connection. Sharing the same opinion about the same issues with someone of the same party does make her sexually promiscuous (edit: oh and I guess by definition she has to be paid for it too).
- Pinkertinkle, on 02/22/2008, -4/+15If the best dig Clinton can take at Obama is this speech similarities thing she is truly screwed.
- jkbowman, on 02/22/2008, -7/+18I don't think I'd define this as "plagiarism" (I think that's the point). People can share a common idea and both should be allowed to express it. However, this video clearly contrasts the politics of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. One is petty and Rovian in its nature. The other is change.
- gianttoolbox11, on 02/22/2008, -3/+13Wow, she didn't just steal the speech but the hand motions as well.
- saska, on 02/22/2008, -3/+13If defining "plagiarism" is the point, then making points in a speech recommended by a campaign co-chair is not plagiarism either. If it is, then every candidate with a speechwriter commits plagiarism on a daily basis.
Frankly, I didn't care about the "Just words?" debacle and I don't care about the "We'll be fine" debacle, but I do care about doublespeak and double standards -- two things that drove this former Hillary supporter to become a vocal opponent of hers. - saska, on 02/22/2008, -1/+10Releasing it is not the same thing as shouting it from the rafters. Compare their response to Hillary's constant repeating of the charge (including her comment during last night's debate). I didn't say they didn't release it.
- legoalert33, on 02/22/2008, -2/+11O.M.G. I. Love. Periods. Too...
- booshack, on 02/22/2008, -0/+9The metaphor is not only old and common, it is entirely self-explanatory to anyone with a mild understanding of the english language. (and it exists in many other languages).
But thanks! - davidwasman, on 02/22/2008, -0/+9I just threw up a little in my mouth
- insomniac8400, on 02/22/2008, -1/+10Morning Joe has talked about this and I think the other shows on MSNBC have also. Maybe you're only watching Fox News?
- inactive, on 02/22/2008, -1/+9At the request of the original speaker. Plagiarism is when you steal the words of another, if they give them to you, it isn't plagiarism. Hillary spent the beginning of the week bashing Obama for doing something she has no problem doing. It is becoming painfully obvious how Americans feel about her, just listen at how many times she was boo'd at last night's debate by fellow Democrats. The only people that still want her as President are the women who only want her because she's a woman.
- emjaymj, on 02/22/2008, -0/+8What's funny is one of the most memorable quotes in history, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country," was lifted in an identical manner. That line was actually said in a speech many years before in an address by Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. to a group of veterans. Kennedy liked it, so he used it in his own speech and he didn't feel the need to credit the creator, and as a result most people now associate that line with Kennedy.
But you won't hear that on the news. He's not running for office so the media has no reason to start this inane mudslinging towards him too. - Joshawag, on 02/22/2008, -1/+9Iron my shirt!
