- Arishia, on 05/21/2008, -6/+104This is more and more like a Bush presidency. Engage in an endless war and run up an absurd debt, and broadcast absurd lies about what is going on.
- iching, on 05/21/2008, -4/+83LA TIMES HAVE CORRECTED IT TO $20 MILLION NOW.... she still isn't paying vendors
though. - holdencaulfield, on 05/21/2008, -4/+75Let her keep spending more and more... but she better not expect Obama to foot the bill at the end.
- joebeastie, on 05/21/2008, -0/+67oh ok, only $20 million in debt, thank god, thought she was in real trouble there....
- Echota, on 01/05/2009, -7/+66It's hard to believe that she is what the "hard working white's" are voting for.
She is beyond pathetic...and I'm a hard workin white,middle aged,woman!
OBAMA 08 & 12!! - kemp34, on 05/21/2008, -4/+58I've had enough of this crazy woman.
- Debmood, on 05/21/2008, -6/+53Hillary is irresponsible with money. She's been given many opportunities to exit gracefully but she keeps going and playing dirty tricks, including not paying the vendors that she claims to represent.
I certainly hope that Obama is not planning to help her with her incredible debt from our campaign funds. I made contributions to him, not to Hillary. I would be very upset if he helps clear her debt. She's evil enough to keep going so that he will pay her debt off for slamming him every chance she gets. Now Hillary is crying sexism. There is no sexism. She just can't handle the truth. It's over! - chrissku, on 05/21/2008, -3/+40Why is Hillary still in this race? What is she trying to gain? Why is Hillary still in this race? Seriously......what is she doing?????
- iching, on 05/21/2008, -3/+38Money for nothing and your chicks for free
Now that ain't workin' that's the way you do it - geothree, on 05/21/2008, -8/+42Please don't tell me that her supporters don't actually know now that she did NOT raise that 10 million in the 24 hours immediately following PA.
I support her going on with the primary, but I don't support the continued deliberate hoodwinking of her supporters. - BishkekBuddy, on 05/21/2008, -4/+37Please let me know who her investors are and what else they invest in - I want to run, not walk, away from those!
- tcbishop12, on 05/21/2008, -4/+36A friend asked me just now: "What does this say about her electability?"
Not very much.
But then again, I've always thought it to be -- really insipidly stupid, actually -- for the mainstream media to buy into any argument as to electability coming from the candidate who is actually losing. - huntress58, on 05/21/2008, -3/+34What about calling them on their #10 million dollar lie?
- NoDivision, on 05/21/2008, -5/+33If only she were an honorary Native American.
Hillary Soaring Indebted Eagle - acosta814, on 05/21/2008, -8/+28Buried as Inaccurate, update from the article
(*UPDATE: Due to a mathematical error, Hillary Clinton's loans to herself were added twice in the calculation of this item. Her total debts are about $20 million, not $31 million. A corrected item covering the first five paragraphs of this one has been published here.) - exomni, on 05/21/2008, -4/+20Drop the ***** out. If Obama foots this ***** bill I'm going to be beyond pissed. I didn't give money to Obama so he could waste it on some stupid bitch who refuses to drop out.
The people have already spoken, Obama has a majority of the pledged delegates, the only way Clinton can win now is by convincing superdelegates to overthrow the will of the people, and yet she still hasn't dropped out. That's nothing but a big fat middle-finger she's giving to the Democratic voters, and I'm happy to give her a big "***** you" right back. - peestandingup, on 05/21/2008, -0/+15Pantsuits.
- jdelsman, on 05/21/2008, -3/+16This is inaccurate. Her actual debt is $20 million, so see the article for clarification.
- SheilaNoya, on 05/21/2008, -0/+12Legally, Obama can't give any of his campaign money to Hillary. However, he can hold a special fundraiser to raise independent cash for her. I doubt many people would want to contribute when they know that their contributions either goes back into Hillary's personal bank account, or goes into the pockets of people like Mark Penn (who is inept and not worth the $10 million in fees Hillary still owes him).
- Borgcube636, on 05/21/2008, -13/+25***** THING SUCKS!!!
- pedo, on 05/21/2008, -2/+13hmm... thats really responsible money management... just what america needs in a president! /s
- chanop, on 05/21/2008, -0/+11This was actually pretty well covered by the news that I had read and seen right after PA (including MSM). She put something like $5 million or more of their own money into the campaign, and it was the second time she had done that. Money raised =/= Money invested by herself
- yaddayaddayoda, on 05/21/2008, -0/+10Anyone who mismanages her campaign the way she has does not have my trust that she can balance the country's budget.
- CeeAyy, on 05/21/2008, -1/+10You should be aware, at this point, that it is illegal for him to give her money from his contributors to erase her debt. The only possibility of her getting money would be if they held a joint fundraiser. Anyone who donated to this event would be aware of the fact that it also goes to Hillary. Specific contributions to Sen. Obama's campaign cannot be used by her. No more need for FUD.
- duggdowncatisad, on 05/21/2008, -1/+8At first I thought you said she was helping the GOP. Would've been just as accurate.
- EnviroChem, on 05/22/2009, -1/+8There needs to be some campaign finance reform that requires candidates to pay their debts in a timely fashion (e.g. net 30 days) including what they own to advisers, consultants, etc.
Obama has proven that it is possible to raise vast sums of campaign contributions from vast numbers of contributors (93% of the 3 million contributions were for $100 or less). As such, forcing a candidate to pay their debts on time will force them to rely more upon contributions from regular voters rather than betting they will be able to pay off their debts later via fat cat fund raising dinners. - chanop, on 05/21/2008, -0/+7It was the predatory lenders!
- camaroz06, on 05/21/2008, -4/+11Thats pretty bad, how do you get so in debt during a campaign anyways? Is it from mailers or TV spots? Anyone know what she has spent the most money on?
- whereiseljefe, on 05/21/2008, -2/+9If she runs her campaign into debt this quickly, what would have happened to the national treasury (or what's left of it) had she gained the presidency?
- Loonacy, on 05/21/2008, -0/+7The Clintons aren't in debt. The "Clinton Campaign" is in debt. In fact, part of the debt of the Clinton Campaign is to Hillary Clinton herself.
- aimhelix, on 05/21/2008, -1/+8I'm sure there are other little boys out there willing to sell his bike to raise funds for Hellary.
- winmywii, on 05/21/2008, -2/+8Can somebody explain to me why all of these comments suggest that somehow Obama will have to pay her debts?
- DooM, on 05/21/2008, -0/+6I think that's a good question - my guess would be (in this order) TV/Radio Ads, Staff Salaries, Travel Expenses, Office Space Rental, renting venues for events...
- junkwheel, on 05/21/2008, -2/+8The Native American's *have* offered Hillary a name, she just hasn't responded or made it public yet. The name is:
False Win Seeker of Epic Enduring Tragedy - Arishia, on 05/21/2008, -0/+6She Who Eats the Seed Corn
- Coven, on 05/21/2008, -0/+5Not going to happen. Obama can't pay off her debts with money already donated to his campaign. He would have to start a seperate fund raising drive to pay off her debts. It wont affect his campaign at all.
- cjays1, on 05/21/2008, -2/+7She still hasn't caught up to Romney, whose campaign debt was at 35 million when he dropped out.
- scamper22, on 05/21/2008, -2/+7Too bad she doesn't have her own federal reserve banking system.
- winmywii, on 05/21/2008, -0/+5The messages on my answering machine still haunt me "Hi, this is Hillary Clin.....message delete."
- funk13, on 05/21/2008, -2/+7it's just more money she is going to have to accept from lobbyists, thus putting her in their respective pockets. great, one more politician out there for the people...
...and by people, i mean corporations. it's a vicious cycle. - inactive, on 05/21/2008, -2/+7If there is one thing that might unite a divided country red & blue, left and right it's hating Hillary Clinton, as a hard lefty it's certainly ther only thing I can agree with the O'Reily crowd on...
- Remmiz, on 05/21/2008, -1/+6Keep working on that GED. I'm sure you'll get it someday!
- duggdowncatisad, on 05/21/2008, -2/+6She's in the process of turning into a Republican so she can run against Obama again in 2012.
- blackjack75, on 05/21/2008, -1/+5Apparently no she doesn't. Otherwise Bill wouldn't have played with cigars.
- MiDri, on 05/21/2008, -0/+4+ the Mayans said the world is ending in 2012
- Diderotten, on 05/21/2008, -4/+8lol the story above this talks about Obama getting 31 million in April. She'll want to be his VP more than ever.
- Theisos, on 05/21/2008, -0/+4I hope she does.
- pablo0713, on 05/21/2008, -0/+4So now Clinton is crying sexism. Boy, she will use every trick in the book. Nobody is out there saying, "I won't vote for Hillary because she is a woman." However, as seen in both WV and Kentucky, there are plenty of white people who won't vote for Obama because he is black. Racism trumps sexism. A white woman is still white at the end of the day and no matter how much women have been "discriminated" against in this world, white women have had the least to complain about. Hillary says sexism is being used against her. But, boy, will she use sexism when it suits her. Her comment she made when referencing a "she" as to who will be the next president is extremely sexist. Hypocrisy, indeed.
- jhails, on 05/21/2008, -3/+7Hillary doesn't care about the money because she is spending someone else's coin. She is going to spend the campaign into a hole to spite everyone and then she is going to present the bill to Obama's team and the Democratic party for them to pay off.
Have another box of dunkin donuts pantsuit lady! -
