Can't wait till these guys are swarn into office...Everyone is so sick of the GOP lies! - skteoievtehr, on 09/13/2008, -29/+71THIS is the change we need. Please get out and volunteer, everyone.

Believe in your constitution, your country: don't put all your eggs in this Obama, he's just a person. - BrandonAbell, on 09/14/2008, -10/+37Why did we allegedly fight the "War on Tara"? To save American lives, right? How many do you think we'd save each year if we spent even a tenth of what we spent on that debacle on health care? Your username has "geologist" in it. If you're a scientist maybe you can use your ***** brain and run the numbers. It's not about liberal or conservative, it's about simple math.
Is it "liberal" to want to vaccinate people for pennies rather than spend thousands of dollars on emergency room visits and medication later on? Is it "liberal" to understand that money spent on kids bringing their education up to a decent level pays off 10 years later in fewer incarcerations, and ends up SAVING money? Is it "liberal" to help people who have fallen on hard times to get back into the economy and become consumers and taxpayers again? Do you really want to fill up your community with the destitute and the insane because you couldn't spare a few pennies out of each dollar you make to help them out a bit? Is it "liberal" to expect that companies that make money in this country employ people in this country and pay taxes in this country instead of some island nation somewhere? Is it "liberal" to think that the sky should not be brown?
I'm sorry for shaking up your worldview a bit Mr. Geologist, but you guys live for ***** like that don't you? The "liberalism" you speak of is really just common sense and saving money. They used to call that sort of thing "conservatism." Instead, your model for "conservatism" is a bunch of spoiled brats who can't see past their own noses saying "MINE!" when somebody even looks at something of theirs. Not so long ago we used to spank the living ***** out of kids with that kind of attitude. Or is *that* too conservative for you? - wingandwing, on 09/13/2008, -19/+42This is great video - should be on every pro-Democratic blog.
- meese, on 09/14/2008, -11/+30Folks - take ACTION. There are only 50 days left, and only 30 until voter registrations deadlines in key states. Here's the link - sign up for ONE event right now:

- QuantumDefect, on 09/14/2008, -10/+25I'm sorry but what he is saying just can't forgive his vote against the fourth amendment. His ACTIONS speak louder than WORDS. Has everyone completely forgotten about his vote FOR the fisa bill? Christ....if he wants change, why isn't he enacting it as a senator? Ron Paul has it right, vote for him. Obama is a good man but he just seems more of the same; certainly not as bad as Bush though!
- inactive, on 09/14/2008, -12/+25The GOP's only argument is "What does he mean by change??".

BrandonAbell, don't be sorry for shaking up geologist's viewpoint. - Dundasbro, on 09/14/2008, -8/+20How dare you point out the voting record of a presidential candidate! Don't you know that his campaign slogan is about change, and that is all you should be listening to!?
- DougO, on 09/14/2008, -0/+11Yeah I guess that can happen when you spend $341M per day on a phony war.
(http://www.nationalpriorities.org/costofwar_home) - Claudia21184, on 09/14/2008, -16/+27This election is so critical to win, I can't imagine another 4 more years of that administration. - Carv, on 09/14/2008, -16/+27We don't believe in "free lunch". We simply believe that everyone in America should have the same opportunities. And if obstacles get in the way, we should do what we can to minimize those obstacles. If you work hard in America, you should be able to provide a decent life to your family.
- 007brendan, on 09/14/2008, -0/+11Have you checked out any of the Third Parties. Their platforms are much better than either McCain or Obama.

Nobody sees a problem with PAYING VOLUNTEERS the equivalent of $40/hr for $8/hr work? Alright, begin your bury... - geologist62, on 09/14/2008, -37/+46Why do the liberals believe that its the governments responsibility to bail you out? Free health care? why and at who's expense. There is NO SUCH THING as a free lunch. You want to be forced to give up 50% of you income so those who chose to sit on their ass all day can get free medical? Wake up. everyone is going to be taxed into oblivion. You have what is called wealth envy followed by a strong senses of entitlements. I'm sorry, but I work hard for my money and if I "CHOOSE" to share it through charitable donations, it's my choice. I do not want a gun held to my head via taxes to help someone else.
- inactive, on 09/14/2008, -6/+15He seems like a good man!
- deadbaby, on 09/14/2008, -7/+16I'm going to answer your question seriously even though I don't think you want a serious answer. Maybe someone else reading this will be interested in a serious response.
Outside of the purely human compassion angle of health care -- an idea that Jesus himself advocated and is in-fact central to many religious faiths, there is a very good economical reasoning behind it. Large companies rely on the labor of workers to turn a profit. These workers have to be reasonably healthy to show up and perform their jobs on a daily basis. For various reasons our private health care system in this country is not a viable and all encompassing solution for many people. Lots of people think they have good health care then they get sick and find out that actually it doesn't cover X, Y and Z so you've got huge medical bills to pay even if you did the right thing and got medical coverage. For a family the cost of medical coverage is often so high that they have to deprive themselves or their children of it.
So now you have a worker who is missing many days of work because they're sick or their children are sick. The kids are missing school and falling behind. Often when students fall behind they never really catch back up. So now you're facing a problem in 10 years of an uneducated person unable to find a job that provides good health care. The cycle continues. The poor are stuck in a never ending loop. The sick parent loses their job. What other options do they have? Selling drugs? Prostitution? Crime? When you're back is to the wall you will do whatever it takes to survive. If that means you have to break into a house in the rich neighborhood and steal enough stuff to pay for your medical bills then yes, you will do it. Not many people are willing to die on the streets starving and sick. They will fight to keep their heads above water. Would you rather it be in the form of taxes or in the form of your kid getting shot so someone could steal their iPod?
Ultimately the liberal view on social issues is that you cannot have a society where the poorest and most disadvantaged are put into a situation where they no longer have any reason to be good, productive, citizens. All research on urban crime shows that it's directly proportional to poverty. If you're creating a situation where the poor are unable to live some basic standard of life you are basically creating the situation wherein they will lose hope and get involved with drugs & crime which effects YOUR LIFE also. No society can exist for very long under these conditions. Go back and study the Great Depression. At its height there was a very real movement in this country towards communism & socialism. Why? Because the people no longer had any faith in democracy and capitalism. It wasn't working for them anymore. We don't want to let it get that bad again. We don't have a depression (yet) but the situation with health care and the plight of the poor is very real and has grown significantly under the Bush administration because Republicans, in general, agree with you that it's just tough luck if you can't pay your health care bills and it's tough luck if you lose your home and golly gee it's tough luck if you lose your job. Fundamentally this is a short sighted view. It fails to anticipate how the problem will grow and manifest itself in other ways. It's an easy and convenient answer to a complex problem. - FLarsen, on 09/14/2008, -0/+9How the ***** is being stuck in the "don't waste your vote"/"vote for the lesser evil" loop going to change things?
- Dndlion, on 09/13/2008, -27/+36Send it to every Republican you know who may have left a little crack open in their closed mind.
- zombies187, on 09/14/2008, -9/+17Community service for college money. I have done something similar and it was the best thing I ever got to do.
- inactive, on 09/14/2008, -8/+16The only change coming is a change from a little freedom and liberty to a bunch of socialism. When are you fools going to wake up? Read the Constitution and please tell me where the government is authorized to implement all these social programs we have now and will have under Hussein? The federal government is not authorized. And if you are truthful about it, you will admit it.
15 billion a yr.? For alternative energy? Where is that money going to come from? Education? That is the responsibility of the states. Community service for tuition? Where's the money to come from?
Debate? Hussein won't do any "town hall meetings" with McCain. Why is that? - meese, on 09/14/2008, -4/+12And if they need more details, the can go here:

Where does that money come from? - Ventura2012, on 09/14/2008, -2/+9It is sad that the Changelings blindly digg this down!
- Carv, on 09/14/2008, -15/+21I was there and it was great. We need to get aggressive if we're going to win. We can win and we will win.
- phoenix2330, on 09/14/2008, -4/+10Obama is the face of change he actually wants to provide a future for this country instead of short term solutions like McPalin just so they can say i was president. I hope the American people realize what Obama can do for this country and how he is going to bring change he already has
- s3rgi0, on 09/14/2008, -4/+10Nope, consider the extra $32/hr an investment.
- pianoboy, on 09/14/2008, -4/+10Nobody is talking about taxing you into oblivion. The odds are that Obama's tax plan will actually SAVE you money. Would you like your health benefits to be taxed? Then vote for McCain. That's what he plans to do.
And yes, everyone DOES deserve to be able to buy in to a reasonable base-level health plan. That's all anyone is proposing. Nobody is advocating a free lunch for anyone, just a level playing field and fair rules. - inactive, on 09/14/2008, -0/+6Fiz- that money has to come from somewhere. Just where do you think it comes from? The tooth fairy? It does actually. Because you all are using fiat money too.
- mhang, on 09/14/2008, -5/+11Why is nuclear power not part of the solution of our energy crisis under the Democratic? That was the only reason that I would have voted for McCain... well until this lady showed up. Most of my Democratic friends are in favor of nuclear power plant. I am not asking for a debate here, just some education from this community where most of the time seems to share my view.
- inactive, on 09/14/2008, -16/+22Indeed, time for new Democratic lies!
- iamcitiz3n, on 09/14/2008, -0/+6Totally, he actually got asked about the Federal Reserve and 'answered' the question. It's on youtube somewhere. Obama, what a joke.
- deadbaby, on 09/14/2008, -1/+7Virginia & Indiana too. Despite McCain's bounce they're both still winnable. Stealing a red state away at the last minute would be fatal to McCain since it doesn't appear he is stealing any blue states. He could win FL & OH and lose the election if we can steal even a smaller red state.
- ennio, on 09/14/2008, -5/+11There is a certain geist that is not present in those that vote Republican this particular election. As if they haven't traveled with us through the murky veil of a failed eight year term. Why were you left behind?
- z28com, on 09/14/2008, -13/+19I am a Republican. I am going to vote for Obama.
- sftrevor, on 09/14/2008, -7/+12There will be no effective change unless we (and all but 5 countries) eliminate the central (private) banking institutions that control absolutely every facet of our lives. If Mr. Obama doesn't mention this, he's a liar like all the rest of them. This should be axiomatic for those who are true history students. You know the saying...

- jessehadden, on 09/14/2008, -2/+7I agree with what you are saying in principle... but with this 8-year-long nightmare for both country and constitution, I could see why people might cry at the prospect of it finally, finally being over.
- chase001, on 09/14/2008, -0/+5@ 007brendan How about we build less bombs? Do we need enough military might to eradicate the human race several times over while children can't eat, see a doctor or get an education?
- twilliac, on 09/14/2008, -8/+13This really needs to be viewed by more people. Less talk about Caribou Barbie, more on the issues.
- Player1, on 09/14/2008, -3/+8I am the elusive "undecided voter." Ideologically I am a Republican-leaning Libertarian, but I refuse to vote McCaine (up until he chose his running mate I had been on the fence.) At this point my choices are to vote for Barr and hope the Republican party can take a hint (which they can not) or vote Obama and endure socialism. Right now Obama is looking like a good choice, but I do have some issues with the policies he lays out here. The major one being that economically we can not realistically make the choice not to drill. No other super power has banned off-shore drilling. Once we develope a reliable, realistic alternative fuel that we can mass produce at little detriment to our agricultural markets then we can wean off of fossil fuels, but until then we should take full advantage of our resources.
