- smackywentz, on 10/10/2007, -17/+87Spread this one. We can do this. Colbert was right, it's time to own up and start taking back control of our country. So spread the word, beyond just Digg and email. Print it out and post it around your town like you lost your ***** lolcat.
- variable, on 10/10/2007, -15/+54Come on everyone, get out there and take back the United States! Digg up this article, tell your friends, blog about it, do whatever you can. We could definitely pull this off if people come together and start moving.
Whatever you do, don't think for a second that this is impossible. - headt0thebunker, on 10/10/2007, -13/+46This is a chance for all the people who voted for Bush the second time to gain redemption.....To say OOPS...To say I made a mistake and I want to correct it. To say I was lied to and I want the liars punished.
- TainerSarkin, on 10/10/2007, -11/+33Maybe if most of America wasn't so in need of the pay/job they get/have, even for a single day, this would be more practical. Perhaps if the war on terrorism hadn't diverted so, so many billions of dollars from fixing internal problems it would be a better situation.
...I'll do it anyway. - christor, on 10/10/2007, -7/+27A couple of great portions:
About the next president: "Already I can hear the nauseating gush: "Such a welcome relief after Bush!" Relief, yes. But relief is not hope. How much better if we could say to our next administration: Don't talk about Bush. We dealt with Bush. We dealt with Bush and in so doing we demonstrated our ability to deal with you."
From the last part:
"for the past six and a half years I have heard the people I love best—family members, friends, former students and parishioners—saying, “I’m sick over what’s happening to our country, but I just don’t know what to do.” Might I be pardoned if, fearing civil disorder less than I fear civil despair, I said, “Well, we could do this.” It has been done before and we could do this. And I do believe we could. If anyone has a better idea, I’m keen to hear it. Only don’t tell me what some presidential hopeful ought to do someday. Tell me what the people who have nearly lost their hope can do right now." - adml_shake, on 10/10/2007, -10/+21Only if you can guarantee that Darth Cheney will go with him, otherwise no deal.
- Richandler, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Well, considering congress has even lower approval ratings I'd say it be better to protest them. They are nearly in single digit percentage.
- Ghoztt, on 10/10/2007, -7/+16Remember, remember the 6th of November! GUNPOWDER! TREASON! AND PLOT! I know of no reason why the power of impeachment should ever be forgot...
- Crossmenjeff, on 10/10/2007, -8/+16remember remember the 5th of November.... wait 6th? why?
- ErrorS, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I hate it when people say this.. we're a Republic but we are also a Democracy. We vote for laws in our own states (most of them), we vote for our leaders. We are both a Represented Republic and to a lesser extent, a Democracy.
- p51d007, on 10/10/2007, -8/+15Here again is ONE prime example why the U.S.A. is not, nor should ever become a democracy!
"Mob rule" NEVER solved ANYTHING. - TainerSarkin, on 10/10/2007, -5/+12I'm sorry, I have a job, *****. I can support myself. What I meant was the people that are making it only from check-to-check. The money wouldn't be handed to them, but in improving job training programs, schooling, and a host of other factors I won't pretend to have great knowledge of, but are important. The money would go a long way towards fixing the problem.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Why don't you quit calling him names and address his allegations? The question of whether or not the newspaper consortium review found Bush the winner is a matter of fact and not opinion. Bush won, Gore lost, and you bitter lefties sound just like the John Birch Society douchebags who can't get over Kennedy beating Nixon in 1960. Even worse, in fact, as there's little doubt Kennedy would have lost without the Democratic votes from the cemeteries of Chicago.
- ZenMojo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Simply having evidence isn't enough when the Democrats are afraid to hold hearings. Even with evidence stacked against this administration, all they'll do is nod their heads and smile because they don't support us, they just represent us.
- vat0r, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9Can't outsource the whole damn country. Won't work.
- Frostman3D, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9They have all the power, but if we worked together, the power would belong to us again. If we all spread the word, if we all stand up and say "I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!" eventually we can turn the tide. Our government has been hijacked by the people in our government and they work for their own interests, not ours. We have to stop this madness and let real statesmen that care about our interests represent us. I'd prefer if they WERE NOT LAWYERS. We don't need all these laws on the books. Let's get back to a simple government and let the states decide most issues. I noticed there is a bill sponsored by Jeff Sessions to make September official Prostrate Cancer Awareness Month. Do we really need them wasting time on something so insignificant, or should we have them working on making our country a better place? I've had enough of these clowns, and I want my damn country back.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6The point he made is that if the recount had been allowed to proceed, Bush would have won under Gore's desired rules.
- ZenMojo, on 10/10/2007, -7/+12Thanks for the FUD, but the Supreme Court stopped the recount. Sorry, but the independent reviews found nothing but "miraculously recovered" voting receipts, voter interference, and an INDEPENDENT RECOUNT of those votes found that Gore would have won if only he hadn't given up.
- christor, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Uh... thanks ShadowMerchant.... Really - what on Earth could possibly make any sensible person conclude that GWB ought to be given this kind of job? What does he have to do before you - the 30-35% - jump ship - drop nukes on an American city? I can kind of understand the thinking in 2000, when many if not most people thought it didn't matter who the president was. People then were saying that Greenspan was the real President. Well it turns out it does matter, and Bush has proved the point.
- toxicityj, on 10/10/2007, -8/+13great idea! lets just stop working and bring the economy to a crawl. that'll show him!
- yoda17, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8From Wikipedia:
Impeachment is so rare that the term is often misunderstood. A typical misconception is to confuse it with involuntary removal from office; in fact, it is only the legal statement of charges, paralleling an indictment in criminal law.
--
Even if he was impeached he would still be president and nothing would change. President Clinton was impeached if you remember history correctly. If you can remember ~12 years ago. - djphatjive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+10You can't strike unless your in a union. They will just fire you if your not.
- Billistic, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8Because he doesn't want gay people to marry?
- biochem, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7i think more people would strike if this was on a weekend.
- atheinostic, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Impeach Bush AND Cheney
- spartacus409, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Actually folks he is right. Just saying it is ***** doesn't make it so.
What makes it ***** is:
$12 Trillion in debt and obligations with no way to pay for it
a trade deficit larger than the GDP of 10 normal countries
borrowing $3 billion a day from China tp pay out bills
no new net job creation in tradeable jobs or services in 8 years
The value of the dollar sinking faster than the Titanic - now 1:1 with the Canadian dollar
Oil heading rapidly for $100 bbl or higher
Zero net savings, the old house as an ATM machine days are over more most poeple
Home foreclosures heading for the stratosphere
The illegal Fed printing money like crazy, shades of the Weimar Republic
oh just the little things
Yes, merely saying it is ***** doesn't make it so. - Martlet, on 10/10/2007, -11/+15They talk alot, but the don't do crap. I can't wait for Nov. 6th so I can giggle. I bet every single person I work with shows up.
- akatsuki, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Yeah, the next president will never have the guts to nail everyone that deserves it. They will undoubtedly say stuff like "It is time to put that behind us" instead of prosecuting all the evil bastards who have profited off Bush and ruined the US.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Yes, and the Democrats tried very hard to void the military absentee ballots. That's politics, not crime. Checking someone's residence and citizenship before they vote is good common sense, but there's no law that says you have to apply it even-handedly. I'm sure the Democrats did the very same thing in Republican precincts.
- PopcornDave, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Oh for *****'s sakes,. don't stop there. Impeach the entire ***** congress and just start fresh. Even a congress filled with monkeys flinging poop at each other couldn't do worse than what we have now.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5This will be about as effective (and funny waste of time) as the "9/11 general strike".
- Sairynn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4The minimum wage is only a suggestion, the equilibrium wage is often much higher ... plus a lot of people are salaried anyway. If you raise the minimum wage too high then you create mass unemployment. The family of 4 living on a single minimum wage job is probably true in some cases, but vastly over-stated.
We do need to stand up for this, but lets not bring socialism into it please. - christor, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6Nice call Herolint. Thanks for that. Because a bunch of folks decided Bush would be more fun to have a beer with than Gore or Kerry, we've wound up with this. Nice.
- Herolint, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5I don't think so. I think they are afraid that impeachment will become quite common and they'll face it next time they are in power. The truth of the matter is that there is no difference between Democrats and Republicans. The only difference is the one in your head and in mine. In reality, both sides want power and they are playing us to get it. Giving us Bush's impeachment would only give us power to demand impeachment of them in the future, and I don't think they want that notion in the heads of the populace at all.
I don't like the way the country is going any more than the rest of you, but I'm afraid impeaching Bush will do little more than to cause a brief and forgettable cheer amongst those who hate him. I also have to admit, I'm not too keen on having the country go in the direction many of you Digg folk seem to want it to go either. - marcomc2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I am appalled at some of the people on here. No wonder we are where we're at.
- Herolint, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Christor, I live in Utah. Do you honestly think that my voting for Kerry or Gore would have changed anything one bit?
But, to make you feel better... Yes Digg. I voted for Bush twice. It is ALL my fault and in spite of everything, I'd still vote for Bush again if the choice was between him and Kerrygore.
Happy? - toxicityj, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5no, itll further ***** this country up. I hate bush as much as the next guy, but bring this country to stand still isnt going to do *****. he isn't going to step down because some people stop working.
- Napoleone, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7Torture: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abu_Ghraib_prisoner_a ...
Wiretapping: http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2006-08-17 ...
Please note that the wiretapping of phone calls included MILLIONS of Americans. I know you do not believe that millions of Americans are talking to Al-Qaeda, right?
In regards to the Posse Comitatus Act violation; what part of "regular law enforcement" was unclear to you? It's not about assisting them in the hunt for terrorists, it will be assisting them in regular day to day crimes. The DHS heads testified to this under oath, before the Congress. I watched their testimonies on C-SPAN.
And I'd like to ad, a stamp of approval from Congress does not make any of these unconstitutional acts legal. This Congress is just as criminal as George Bush. - dvlsnghtmr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I was just about to say the same thing.
- clark24, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5The state of our country is disastrous -- but you are right about people's personal lives. As a country we are setting ourselves up for major economic failure and obviously our reputation among the rest of the world is poor at best. People in general are self-centered, some more than others. When restrictions on speech, privacy, etc.. start to change the way of life, people will take notice and get angry. As it stands now, most people's lives have not changed much, and until that happens we will continue to see inaction.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Most people making mininum wage can afford to take a day off if they want, because they are still in high school and living at home with their parents.
- Zreitan, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6count me in
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4 Oh yeah...And look what we got...Thanks ever so much.
:>P - vat0r, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7Dude, it's the children who will inherit this country and all the ***** that Bush piled on top of it.
- PopcornDave, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Yeah it worked so well over illegal immigration didn't it? All the protesters got the laws changed just the way they wanted...
- clark24, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6Where do you think the money funding the "War on Terrorism" comes from? People work and pay taxes to fund the war. I worked for that money and it's being funneled into the pockets of a bunch of jerkoffs at Halliburton and Blackwater. I would rather put that money in barrels and burn it than spend it on Iraq.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+8Remember that most of the people pushing this are to young to have real jobs anyway. They just want a day off school.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5you should check out the 9/11 Troofer threads sometime if you want to see moronic ideas.
- Herolint, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Why whine about it now? The deterioration of our rights and the bloating up of the government has been going on for a long time. I'm not against doing something about it, but to say this is all Bush's fault is naive.
