- Aeaus, on 10/12/2007, -8/+135Halliburton, and all its current and former administration are shining examples of trustworthy and ethical people, take Cheney for example.
- browwiw, on 10/12/2007, -2/+92No ***** chlorine in the water. No ***** chlorine?
I'm an operator at a class 3 water treatment plant here in the States and do you know how bad I would be slammed by the state and federal gov't if I just decided to turn off the chlorine in the plant for a day to save a few bucks? I'd go to rape-you-in-the-ass-federal prison.
Two hours of my day is spent driving around the city testing random distribution sites just to make sure the chlorine is making sure the chlorine is breaking down or diluting in the most extreme parts of our distribution sites.
You cannot treat water without chlorine. Above the carbon, polycarbonate, alum, caustic soda, and fluoride...the chlorine is the most important thing we put in the water --because it kills the organics that make people sick-- ! All the other ***** is just get the turbidity and pH right, and even then we take it out with sand in the acti-flo units.
If there is no chlorine in the water, it is not fit for human consumption. I'm not kidding, if a municipal plant here in the States pulled something like this, the operators would get charged 50k and sent to federal prison. - TekeeTakShak, on 10/12/2007, -8/+97If this so "old old old," then how come I've never heard of it before?
- marshall007, on 10/12/2007, -6/+87still dude,
Everyone should hear about it, its an important issue. How would u like it if you were not informed that you had pathogens swimming around your bloodstream and digestive track that you got from ingesting contaminated water. - dukeeeey, on 10/12/2007, -15/+96The Bush administration is basically the mafia.

"We exposed a base camp population (military and civilian) to a water source that was not treated," said a July 15, 2005, memo written by William Granger, the official for Halliburton's KBR subsidiary who was in charge of water quality in Iraq and Kuwait.

Allen conceded the water for showers was not chlorinated, but said military regulations required water for such uses to be chlorinated only "if prescribed by the command surgeon."
Jeffrey Griffiths, a professor of public health and medicine at the Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, scoffed at that assertion. "You don't shower with water that's not chlorinated — at least," Griffiths said. "It's called common sense."

Five year chart of Halliburton stock. - kenvsryu, on 10/12/2007, -8/+64These damn foreign corporations! I know an American based company wouldn't do that.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+54Well legally a corporation is a person. (not joking, look it up)
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -12/+61Hey "motolazr"...

Sry. I needed caps. I cant vent my anger any other way.
Digg needs an ostracism feature. As in, IP ban. - erkokite, on 10/12/2007, -5/+52***** Halliburton.
- pentium4borg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+48Don't Hallibuton's execs eat, like, small children for breakfast or something?
- draebor, on 10/12/2007, -5/+37The really tragic part is that the soldiers Bush sent there to fight and die have put their trust in these criminals in business suits. They have blind faith that the civilian leadership of our military will have their backs as they put themselves in harm's way, and it just isn't happening.
I support our troops because they're there out of a sense of duty and honor, believing that they're fighting the good fight. It sickens me to think that our country's leadership would allow this to happen and even profit from it.
I hope Halliburton chokes on their blood-money. - zephc, on 10/12/2007, -6/+37The milk is actually rat milk
/simpsons - AdebisiTheGamer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31If you knew anything about blood born infections, how they spread, how long before symptoms present, the fact that it usually affects children and the elderly first (which are not part of the Marines), you would realise that 94% NOT having an infection is actually a rather pathetic record. Not only that, as stated in the video, these people will not realise what is making them sick unless they know specifically to get tested for it. They could be sick much later on as a result.
But lets use your figure of 94% not having an infection. That leaves 6% getting infected? What a ***** ***** YOU MUST BE when you know that treated water has a ZERO PERCENT INFECTION RATE.
I guess killing or injuring 6% of Marines with tainted water thanks to the lack of 5 cents worth of chlorine is acceptable to you.
What an *****. - Spiffness, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29The majority of America didn't...
- euphemizeme, on 10/12/2007, -5/+31I want to know who the individuals within Haliburton are that let ***** like this happen. There's no such thing as a company doing something.
- browwiw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26on a small scale, normally for commercial bottle water. Most 'spring water' is good ol' municipally treated tap water, though.
But, chlorine is the federally mandated (not to mention most efficient) way for treating drinking water. I'm not spewing rhetoric or partisan politics when I say that Halliburton would be charged with gross criminal negligence if they 'treated' water like this for a civilian community in the states. Like I said earlier, if a plant operator got caught not chlorinating drinking water he would be sent directly to federal-pound-you-in-the-ass prison.
Drinking water is a big deal. While a lot of you are saying the guy in the video is hamming it up, I will play devil's advocate and say this: he is a water filtration professional and he knows exactly what untreated drinking water can do to the human body. Crypto alone can make you ***** yourself to death in less than a week. And he's right, there's a lot of crazy diseases that these soldiers can bring back with them. Besides the 'mundane' things we treat water for, I shudder to think what bizarre parasites they're picking up in that far off desert ecosystem because they are drinking unchlorinated water.
Christ, I'd hate to see what passes for Halliburton's waste water treatment. That's a whole different galaxy of awful. - excession, on 10/12/2007, -5/+30soylent green is people?
- Nydas, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27Yes they are providing a great service for many of our troops (myself included). But most of it isnt needed. Why is it that we have KBR workers sitting at desks to make sure we sign in for a computer? So KBR can make more money of them. Why is it we have KBR do our laundry for us, when soldiers could do it them-selfs if they were provided with washing machines and driers? It would be cheaper, plus it wouldn't take 2 days for me to get my laundry back? And 90% of the KBR workers here are Filipinos, just so KBR can pay them ***** and save money.

- Sizzor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20Unfortunately it would take President Bush getting a blowjob from an intern in an unclorinated shower to get the Press to report this story.
How do these people (Haliburton and the Administration, who knows about this) sleep at night? - gnatinator, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22Do it for as little cost as possible, cut back more and more as you fill the pockets of investors. If something is contaminated, maybe they just won't notice...
That's what you get when you privatize vital functions like this. (Not to mention the contracts were given directly away to bush's cronies)
Makes me sick at the thought - orp2000, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22I love how this administration is hypocritical in every way they possibly can be. They're always pulling the "you're not supporting the troops" card whenever somebody says something against the war. Yet, look how they support the troops.
Impeach Bush!!! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19They share them with the guys from the RIAA!

It's almost as if they are taking the money and running, before all their misdeeds come to light. - d00ley, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Supposedly, the main reason they are relocating the headquarters to Dubai is to enable them to continue doing business with Iran.
- tgunner, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Halliburton should get the hell out of the US.
... oh wait.... - browwiw, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Tell ya what, Daole, drink and bathe in raw pond water for a week and see just how 'overstated' it is. That is if you haven't been rendered comatose by the diarrhea induced dehydration by then.
- omnithought, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16I wish the Halliburton execs would drink a bellyfull of that water and then ride around in Fallujah in an unarmored Humvee.
- pintomp3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14a corporation has the rights of a person but shields the individuals responsible from any liability. it allows ceos to collect outrageous bonuses but passes liability off to the rest of the employees and shareholders.
- robdiggity, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Wow, aren't you cool? *EVERY* routable interface on the internet is being port scanned like every 10 minutes. I have ssh login attacks every quarter hour. There is no causal action for this. Talk, or don't talk, about whomever you like. They'll still happen.
Why?
Thanks, Chinese hackers. - chubbstar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14@twertyto + kylesellers
this is an excerpt from a 2 hour movie so of course its missing context and its not exactly propaganda seeing as they have ABUNDANT proof of haliburtons actions. - koick, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12I hate to say, but really, that's not much to be proud about. Now, be part of sending some of these guys to jail, now THAT you could be proud of.

You, sir or madam, are a war profiteer from this bloodbath. May that profit you make from this misery go toward the removal of all mirrors from your house, so that you never have to suffer looking yourself in the eye again. - fcdsbh07, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12"But these are times of war."
That's the biggest excuse for cutting more corners than regular law/practice would ever allow. The odd part is that those laws were made because some people (ie: legislators representing the general public) decided that it was important enough to send people to jail to protect the people against crap like that.
It's kind of freaky to think about the economic "waste" in situations like these. I know anything costs more if you want it "in a hurry", but there just doesn't appear to be any accountability... - actorboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11And the RIAA won "Worst Company in America" over these guys?
- pintomp3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11their stock has gone up in lock step with troop deaths. they profit from war, that money is soaked in the blood of the men and women who serve our country.

- PenguinODoom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Uh-huh... And how much money do you donate to starving kids in Africa every year? Are you sponsoring a child? Please, no lies!
- absurdist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Wow. I think my brain just asploded from the mind-blowing, slack-jawed, coma-inducing, flaming stupidity of that comment. Do we have some kind of award we can give adam00f?
No, seriously. A cookie or something? - AdebisiTheGamer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Yes dumb ass, Mexicans drink the water in Mexico all the time but what is the first thing we tell people vactioning in Mexico? DONT DRINK THE WATER.
When you are born and raised with it you develop a resistance to the local bacteria.
How many of the Marines were born and raised in Iraq and would have the lifetime of resistance built up to the local bugs?
As for the "its only shower water" line of brain dead thought. It is far easier to contract an infection from a skin cut and a shower then it is by drinking some. That arguement makes no sense whatsoever. There are many routes of infection, of which the oral route is only one. Eyes, ears, anus, penis or vagina, cuts, lesions, the skin itself if badly sunburned could become infected. - chubbstar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9yea. not to mention theyd die FROM the water too.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+18Well Cheney DID shoot a lawyer, so he can't be all that bad!
- Spiffness, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Not related OR the point. We're not talking about the kids in Africa right now are we?
- WMD404, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7seriously. "Iraq for Sale" made my blood boil. The profiteering from this war goes way beyond what you might already imagine. Not only is Halliburton getting away with poisoning our troops with contaminated water and rotten food, there are numerous other crimes being committed and no one will be held accountable.
In one of the more egregious examples from the film, if a $90,000 truck breaks down in Iraq, rather than spend the time and effort to try to repair it, Halliburton will blow it up (sometimes having the troops do the actual demolition) and simply requisition a new one from the US government. Your tax dollars at work. -
