An innocent man, kidnapped by US agents, tortured, then let go because it was a case of mistaken identity.
Nothing to see here - move on... - Erich100, on 02/23/2008, -10/+62There must be some truth in this film.
- source1984, on 02/23/2008, -1/+51Um, he wasn't let go. He was killed in torture.
- rohan2kool, on 02/23/2008, -11/+53dugg for standing up to what you believe in.
- phnx0221, on 02/23/2008, -11/+53This is excellent news. Maybe if people saw it in a controversial, dramatically recreated context, the concept of torture wouldn't seem so far away. People have a huge misconception, that we simply just don't do it, or that, we engage in water boarding, which is "questionably" legal, or "questionably" defined as torture, but that's the only thing that we really do that could be described as such.
The sad, horrifying fact of the matter, is that it is not. Hopefully things like this, will help people realize it, so we can band together and act to stop it. - cw1242, on 02/23/2008, -5/+43Don't wait till Sept. for HBO to change their minds, watch it now...
http://onebigtorrent.org/torrents/2792/Taxi-to-the ... - brentinkc, on 02/23/2008, -3/+34Eh, I still love the Discovery Channel. I do think that if this movie is truly of a darker nature, it may be more appropriate for HBO. Discovery typically tries to keep things light and fun. Right now, programming for the next few hours is Extreme Engineering, Some Assembly Required, Mythbusters, and Smash Lab. Torture movie doesn't fit into that motif very well.
- cw1242, on 02/23/2008, -1/+23ISO hunt has it too
http://isohunt.com/torrents/4c3d9ccce18434e6f88c4e ... - Barbosa, on 02/23/2008, -8/+27HBO is the only reason I still have cable. I'm glad it is showing on HBO instead of Discovery, more people watch HBO anyways.
- zephyr42, on 02/23/2008, -3/+22And apparently.... there were several others like him
- zephyr42, on 02/23/2008, -1/+16discovery science channel is the *****.
- phnx0221, on 02/23/2008, -2/+16I don't have HBO, though I'm sure I'll find another way to see it. :) I went through a phase, where all I'd watch was the Discovery channels (four of them, couldn't stand the military channel), and sometimes the history channel. I wouldn't be surprised to find on the discovery channel that the movie would be heavily edited due to "graphic visuals, language, and content" or whatever words they use to explain their editing of vital information.
That phase has long since abated, aside from the usual nature/science docs, but this is something that would certainly be fitting, and necessary, to be shown in its entirety. I hope they do so. - Treason, on 02/24/2008, -4/+16RTFA HE WAS KILLED
- dano333333, on 02/24/2008, -7/+18It's a sad day for America when the truth is "too controversial". The Discovery Channel should grow a pair.
- Jimmyb207, on 02/23/2008, -1/+12I agree. 'Taxi to the dark Side' doesn't seem to be DC material. The good thing, and whats most important here is not 'who', but more so the fact that it 'will' be shown to a very large audience. More Americans will be aware and more will start to awake.
- toosinbeymen, on 02/24/2008, -4/+13Yeah, it's controversial that the US tortures and tortures to death innocent prisoners. But what's really controversial is that no one gives a s***. We've lost our soul. The great American experiment, not worth a f***.
- Augie1969, on 02/24/2008, -1/+9I stated this in a later post...but "I was just following orders" is not a viable defense for illegal/unethical/immoral actions. Period.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuremberg_Trials - mdty, on 02/24/2008, -2/+10Fundamental fallacy of humanity? Like killing innocent people. You're one of those people who still think that we're in the Middle East to spread freedom aren't you? You still believe that there is a shadowy ninja army of Muslims waiting to kill you? We are in two simultaneous wars to facilitate the extraction of resources and to maintain a strategic foothold in the region. This documentary questions the morality of killing/torturing innocent people who get caught in the mix.
- kurtwinter, on 02/24/2008, -5/+12Glad that no one is afraid to run "Saw" or "Hostel" - violence porn, but God forbid someone tries to tell the truth!
- barandon0D9, on 02/23/2008, -1/+8Why is "want" in quotes?
- inactive, on 02/24/2008, -0/+7No one wants it to be true but the fact the America ***** up and ended up doing something to make this true.
- skunkman62, on 02/24/2008, -0/+7"killed and tortured"?
how about "tortured and killed" - Hananda, on 02/24/2008, -1/+7Remember folks, report and then block, I made the mistake of blocking first, which apparently removes the option to report.
- sockpuppets, on 02/23/2008, -4/+10Drop me off in Harlem.
- TexMurphy, on 02/24/2008, -1/+6The movie is about a innocent taxi driver who was killed and tortured by the U.S in Afganistan.
"Nothing to see here - move on"
Very Christian of you. - facelogic, on 02/24/2008, -1/+6wow, you, use, commas, a, lot,..
- notque, on 02/23/2008, -5/+10onebigtorrent.org has many wonderful documentaries.
- Michael9636, on 08/04/2008, -0/+5One of the most excruciating things to deal with in this movie is watching several guards admitting that they literally beat the guy to death. The guards were not even trying to get information from the taxi driver. It was torture, pure and simple. They ignored anything the guy was trying to say, even his screaming. They were told to "soften him up" for possible questioning later. They did this routinely, constantly, not just with this poor taxi driver. The taxi driver in the title was beaten to death - it is beyond imagining.
- Michael9636, on 08/04/2008, -0/+4It is not. The documentary is a factual statement of what happened to this taxi driver - when and how, and a little bit of why.
- Michael9636, on 08/04/2008, -0/+4This is by far one of the best movies of 2007. If you have not seen it, please do. At times it's very hard to watch, but it brings home the reality of our invasion and occupation of Iraq like no other movie I've seen.
- inactive, on 02/23/2008, -6/+10I would imagine that any media discussion of things that subvert the Constitution yet are accepted by elements in society would be controversial. I wouldn't be surprised if someone leans on HBO to stop this coming up before elections. Too embarrassing to the principles of the McCain side.
- JustinBaglo, on 02/24/2008, -0/+4I just started watching it, got about ten minutes in, and thought to myself, "I'd blow your country to hell or die trying if you came into mine and did that."
- inactive, on 02/24/2008, -1/+5americangoy was one of the agents
- VIrus9, on 02/24/2008, -0/+4HBO is a corporate entity. They are not standing up for what they believe in, they are providing content.
People will watch this movie because it's supposedly controversial. HBO wins. - sonnybobiche, on 02/23/2008, -3/+7Why are there no links to the actual story of this taxi driver? It all comes off as kind of a "what if" type of movie. Link up some articles about the original story!
- Mr.Gone, on 02/24/2008, -1/+5Why would Discovery air this? It doesn't involve blowing up everyday objects, or blowing up crash test dummies, or blowing up cars, or blowing up toilets, or blowing up.... you see where I'm going here.
- ZenMojo, on 02/24/2008, -0/+4That's sort of the point, the story's an excellent case of mass amnesia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bagram_torture_and_pr ... - Mattso, on 02/23/2008, -6/+9Hopefully this can open people's eyes to the real issues with torture. I'll admit that before becoming informed on the subject, I basically thought, "Big deal... we're torturing bad guys. If it helps make us safe who cares." This documentary seems that it can do it's part to show people one if not many of the reasons that our country is very literally fundamentally weakened by such practices. One of the things that really helped wake me up to the issue was Al Gore's book, "The Assault on Reason". If you haven't read the book... and especially if you don't see the problem with torture... pick it up.
- ZenMojo, on 02/24/2008, -1/+4BBC aired it. Discovery is a bunch of pussies.
- inactive, on 02/24/2008, -0/+3Just downloaded this one, and watched it. Great quality, and I enjoyed the Doc, thanks!
- Augie1969, on 02/24/2008, -1/+4Um...according to MIlitary law, those in command are responsible for the troops they lead. This goes all the way up to the top. "Just following orders is not a viable excuse for any actions.

And, parents are responsible for the actions of their minor children, at least in the civil court system. The "Bad Seed" concept is old and dried up. An apple does not fall far from the tree that spawned it, and according to the models set by its role models and superiors. - Spytap, on 02/24/2008, -1/+4No, the above comments are stereotypes. The parent stated a truth - that Bush's base tends to be more rural and Southern - and implied another: that people in Kentucky and other southern have lower educational levels than in other states. Whether education had anything to do with it is another story, but both the stated and implied comments are in fact true.
- CTK14A, on 02/24/2008, -4/+7HBO is a blessing, and a real symbol of American freedom of speech. They're the only major media source I can think of that's willing to cast light on 'the ugly,' whether it's Taxi to the Dark Side, the mundane perversity of the average person on the street in Taxicab Confessions, the fact that HBO allows Bill Maher a soapbox (Bill is often highly disagreeable--and I love that most of all), and--of course-- The Wire, a show so subversive and so willing to expose the various cancers eating away at America, that it commands action from its viewers.
Too bad I can't afford cable. - Mr.Gone, on 02/24/2008, -1/+4Trigun is *****
- inactive, on 02/25/2008, -0/+2I think a lot of us would enjoy if you rightards spent some time on that taxi.
You ***** might actually learn something.
So let me guess what will happen.
The intial air date will be Sept. 30th, then as elections draw closer the GOP will protest it, and it will eventually show on November 8th. - SomeoneGNU, on 02/24/2008, -0/+2Wait, isn't this the show where they ask people questions in the back of a cab and then video tape their embarrassing answers?
- seltaeb4, on 02/24/2008, -8/+10A round of applause for HBO and an act of courage -- the only major media I can think of that's not afraid to take chances in their programming, and (consequently, I feel) have been rewarded critically and economically.
And Discovery! God, what a bunch of pathetic lapdogs you are! What you don't realize is that this could greatly HELP your IPO. A lot of people are sick of this "Redder, Whiter, and Bluer Than Thou" cheerleading-for-war bullcrap, and the attendant rank cowardice that you have displayed. Discovery is thinking so short-term on this -- What's the worst that could happen, boys? Some church group or AM-dial blowhard boycotts you for one quarter -- and you maybe take a 10% sales hit on Made-in-China plush meerkat toys? God, you're cowards. - Vassili84, on 02/24/2008, -2/+4It's not tv it's HBO..
- skinturtle, on 02/24/2008, -2/+4Amen to that
- seltaeb4, on 02/24/2008, -0/+2Well *I* thought it was funny.
