- SheilaNoya, on 05/11/2008, -4/+43Oh oh... That means Hillary will have to invent new rules (again).
Maybe her new rules will be to only count votes from old white people over the age of 65, uneducated rural rednecks, racists, and Rush Limbaugh fans. Basically, the only people who now support Hillary are the some of the same idiots who gave us George W. Bush for 8 years. - matt70, on 05/11/2008, -2/+40She won't quit until...actually I don't think she'll ever quit. She'll still be campaigning in November hoping that maybe the people will finally see the light and understand what she already knows...that she'd be the best President ever by God.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcissism - 13373h4X0r, on 05/11/2008, -4/+33To Hillary supporters: Hillary will vote for Obama in the general election if Obama is the Democratic candidate for president. Hillary and Obama agree on most principles of the Democratic party. The Democratic party has a platform that is very different from that of the Republican party. You are already familiar with the contrast of way things were in the year 2000 and the way things went during the subsequent Republican years, and a McCain presidency would largely continue the trend of economic decline and increased international tensions and violence. Hillary has already stated that she will rally support for the Democratic candidate for president, whomever it might be.
To voters concerned about MI and FL being disenfranchised: The DNC indicated that MI and FL delegates would not count if their primaries were held ahead of the DNC schedule, but MI and FL officials knowingly moved up their primary dates anyway, putting their entire populations' votes at stake and hoping to call the DNC's bluff. The officials within those states are to blame for the results. MI and FL voters need to direct their anger at those officials. Obama removed his name from the MI ballot, and tried to remove his name from the FL ballot, because the delegates from those state would not count. Hillary and Obama did not campaign in MI or FL. There is no way of knowing how many votes each candidate would have received had they campaigned in MI and FL. We now know, based on all of the primaries thus far, that campaigning in a state can make a big difference in the outcome. Given that fact, trying to GUESS how things might have turned out in MI or FL is pure speculation! Using speculative results is NOT "enfranchising" voters! OK, so the original vote totals cannot be used. What about a re-vote, with enough advance time for both candidates to vigorously campaign in MI and FL? Are the citizens of MI and FL willing to pay additional tax dollars to finance a new vote, to repair the big blunder of their state officials? Also, are Democratic voters in MI and FL willing to, at this point, invite two more brutal campaign battles, delaying the healing and reuniting of the party before campaigning hard against McCain? Florida has 210 delegates, of which 185 would have been allocated by voters. Michigan has 156 delegates, of which 128 would have been allocated by voters. In all, 185 + 128 = 313 delegates were up to a vote. Today Obama is ahead by 161 delegates. Putting Hillary in the lead would require Hillary to get 161 MORE delegates than Obama in the MI and FL primaries; i.e., Hillary would have to get (X + 161) delegates while Obama gets (X) delegates, which means (2*X + 161) = 313, which means X = (313-161)/2 = 76, which means Hillary would have to get 237 delegates while Obama got 76 delegates, which means Hillary would have to receive 75.7% of the vote in both MI and FL! In Ohio, Hillary got 54%. In Pennsylvania, Hillary got 55%. Even in Hillary's current home state of NY she only got 57%; nowhere near the realm of 75.7%! So, the DNC could arbitrarily give Hillary 75% of the non-super-delegates from MI and FL and Obama would still be ahead! If you believe in the Democratic platform, and you were hoping that Hillary would be the party nominee, then please recognize that a 75% win for Hillary in both MI and FL is impossible, especially now. The DNC is reluctant to seat the MI and FL delegates, because doing so would send the wrong message to other states that would then move their primary dates earlier and earlier to try to gain greater attention -- however, please accept that seating these delegates can only be done without the benefit of knowing what really would have happened had Obama campaigned in MI and FL, and that, given Obama's current lead, even seating those delegates according to Hillary's biggest victory percentage to date would still leave Obama ahead by a large number of delegates.
Hillary supporters: Please know that your fellow Democratic party supporters believe in the same platform principles, and that had Obama not inspired us more than Hillary many of us would have proudly voted for Hillary. It's a shame that two great candidates in the same party had to battle it out during such a critical election year.
To all voters: The past seven years show how important it is to choose a president wisely. A president nominates Supreme Court justices, appoints many court and cabinet positions, has the power to start wars and veto bills, and comes to personify, for billions of people around the world, the judgment and morality of the United States of America. America desperately needs to change course, and right now this means choosing a Democratic president. This is not a rejection of conservative principles; indeed, a Democratic president at this time would reduce war expenditures, reduce the new big government programs created by Bush, restore civil liberties, and increase government transparency. Choosing a Democratic president now is good for international relations (ask ANY foreigner!), and this will be good for American businesses. - nancy971, on 05/11/2008, -1/+15The math did Hillary in a long time ago. We should all not be shocked by this outcome. Somebody just give her FL and MI so she will shut up already.
- mikestg, on 05/11/2008, -1/+13Actually, it's a republic. If this were a majority rule system, Al Gore would be finishing his second term.
- hollyminkowski, on 05/11/2008, -1/+11Clinton no longer wants to win the 08 nomination...she is aiming at the 2012 nomination now.
If she were to win the 08 nomination Obama would not run as her VP on a unity ticket. That means she would lose and lose very badly as the black vote stays home.
She is in the race now purely to damage Obama...if she drops out she will be expected to support Obama as the nominee...staying in the race is the only way she can snipe at him and ruin his chances while appearing to remain a loyal democrat. - Aleman360, on 05/11/2008, -1/+11Hey guys, stop wasting your energy ripping on her. She's done for!
- BesideYouInTime, on 05/11/2008, -0/+8FL and MI should not be seated. Hillary was the only one that campaigned in FL, and Obama was not even on the ballot in MI. If anything at all they should do a revote, and even that would be magnanimous.
- Woaz, on 05/11/2008, -1/+9Yeah, but then she'd claim that the states she won are the only ones that count.
- DocCochran, on 05/11/2008, -0/+7They ARE switching sides, from Clinton to Obama :)
- Mejari, on 05/11/2008, -1/+6She can still do her best to ***** up Obama's chances. And she is!
- Pake, on 05/11/2008, -1/+6This is a Clinton we're talking about... She's the Tonya Harding of politics and while she might fight for the same ideologies, don't assume that just because she's on the same team now that she won't try to "prove a point" so she can come back in 2012.
- inactive, on 05/11/2008, -0/+5What in God's name is your problem? *****.
- jforjools, on 05/11/2008, -0/+5DUGG -- for the Clinton campaign commetns on Politico's use of Clinton-math:
"dismissing it as 'artificial metrics' that 'might make for interesting cocktail party conversation'" - FlaG8r, on 05/11/2008, -0/+5I gotta agree. I got pretty pissed off the other day about that "hard-working Americans. White Americans" line until someone reminded me that Obama was going to be the nominee and it isn't worth worrying what HRC and her campaign do at this point.
- jmkiii, on 05/11/2008, -1/+4You REALLY like posting that!
- dBass, on 05/11/2008, -6/+10Ah, who give a ***** what HRC's newest rules are? Unfortunately HRC, Inc., this is a democracy. And therefore, the will of the majority of voters is the ONLY ***** THING THAT MATTERS.
- yojiffyskippy, on 05/11/2008, -0/+3There are some whites voting for him. Of course most blacks are voting for him but he has to be getting a few white votes. Otherwise he wouldn't be getting about 1/2 of the votes. I don't know what percentage of his votes are white but it has to be close to 50%.
- aguita, on 05/11/2008, -0/+3I think your view is very narrow minded. Obama was following the rules of the DNC, in how they stated it would be run over 6+ months ago. He withdrew his name from the ticket like he was supposed to. Hillary, on the contrary, did not withdraw her name.
- kreneskyp, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2looks like you're outnumbered here cause otherwise this wouldnt have hit the front page.
maybe instead of spamming about spam you should just figure out how to use a filter. - Pake, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2Her next card will be the Two-Thirds Rule.
- inactive, on 05/11/2008, -1/+3What does stealing elections have to do with republic?
- RebeL5K, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2"Bitch". The word is "bitch".
- oselznick, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2Hillary won't get out until she's offered what she wants (second to the presidency). Maybe to replace Senator Reid, maybe vice pres (but I doubt that), whatever it is, it will have a huge amount of power for her to hit everybody over the head with who didn't support her.
- magus_melchior, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2It's so amusing that many politicians behave like four-year-olds.
"Hey, I have the most points and most of the people agree that I'll win in the end, can we call it now so that we can all work against McCain in November?"
"no! it's not over! you're cheating, 'cause we didn't score Michigan and Florida!"
"Okay, we can include them even though we agreed not to in the beginning, but I'll still end up ahead."
"no you won't, cheater! this isn't over! we still have 5 more rounds to play!"
"Yes, but you won't be able to overtake me unless you hold me to zero points."
"fine! we'll decide on new rules..."
The advantage of the four-year-old, of course, is that a four-year-old is much more likely to simply toss the game in a tantrum and sulk in her room. Clinton has the burden of trying to keep an adult facade. - Eiknujrac, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2If you just honor the election results, every state will realize that they can just move their primaries early and avoid penalization for it. It will be a constant battle between states to see who can hole their primaries first. These rules were put in place for a reason.
Sometimes when you break the rules that EVERYONE (including the Hillary camp) agreed to, you have to face the consequences. Life sucks. - EtherGnat, on 05/11/2008, -0/+3I love how everybody ignores the fact that the Republicans have unpledged delegates as well. They work basically the same way, they just don't have as many of them.
- yojiffyskippy, on 05/11/2008, -1/+4That's what I used to think. But Electoral College looks like a college full of geniuses compared to the Super-delegate mess the Dems have dreamed up.
- WolverineBlue, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2What people don't realize is that Clinton's rules also change the fundamental rules of arithmetic to guarantee she wins even in the face of mathematical impossibility.
- bjornski, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2Some people like them. Deal with it.
"Oh no. Fajitamelt doesn't like it! We better stop, guys!" - macshaggy, on 05/11/2008, -0/+3FYI: Primaries are held under state law. Look at the laws and the state government, not the DNC nor the RNC, can hold the primaries. I know that the state government in Florida is controlled by the Republicans. So it's interesting that the Florida legislature decided to hold the primaries earlier than the DNC would have liked. Do you think that they may have known what the outcome would be. I can't speak for Michigan but I'm sure that story is the same. The Democratic Primary was controlled by the Republicans in those states.
If I was the DNC Chairman I'd stopped crying about when the state held the primaries and allow the delegates to sit and vote according to their states primaries. But I'm a Libertarian so who really cares? - fanclerks, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2You're a ***** douchebag. ***** *****.
- cquinnd, on 05/11/2008, -1/+4She's not the first politician that would choose to stay in a race long after the general consensus had gone in another direction.
- headzoo, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2Best two out of three?
- Deadpixel1221, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2Where?
- notoneofus, on 05/11/2008, -1/+4Why do you feel the need to even click on these articles to post that? You can tell from the headlines what they're about.
- Mejari, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2Of course, you ignore the very revealing tidbit that so far not a single superdelegate has switched from Obama to Clinton, and considering she's losing right now, the only supers she'll be getting are some small number of the uncommitteds that owe her their careers
- Mejari, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2Maybe if you started forwarding these articles to Hillary she'd get it and you wouldn't have to hear about it any more.
- headzoo, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2God knows the Clinton campaign is the master of artificial metrics.
- Charbax, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1It's not about rules, it's about democracy guy.
Figure out what the people really voted, that what this should be all about. Can you say with certainty that Florida and Michigan wouldn't give Clinton enough of a lead over their 365 delegates to give Clinton about as much as the 166 delegate lead Obama currently has? - Eiknujrac, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1Every time I read a comment about the Democratic superdelgates, and how the Repubs are so much better because of their lack of them, I just stop and laugh.
- kreneskyp, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1November? My money is on a zoolander style appearance at inauguration day. awkward.
- hiriumi, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2Why should the rule change in the middle of the contests? How is that fair?
- rahamm, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2You think Florida Democrats should be ***** due to a REPUBLICAN RUN governor and legislature pushed up the primary. It was a dumb arguement the first time the DNC used it, it was a dumb arguement when Obama used it, and it is even dumber when you use it. It will affect the out come cause the delegates decided party platform and Obama people and Hil people are different types of Democrats. Like Obama wants to talk with Cuba and Hil doesn`t Big issue in Florida. Might not mean much to you but it does to those Democrats. He will still when so seat the delegates by re vote.
- scott1, on 05/12/2008, -0/+1her new rule would be simple:
just make her the nominee. - inactive, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1She's allowed to stay in till election day. She'll run as third party. I have no doubt.
- WTFppl, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1Are our electorates going to pick McCain or Paul?
- Drahkar, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1That was a totally different situation. They weren't of the same party. If you are going to try and make a witty cut at someone, at least try and make it accurate.
- BabushkaBlue, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1I'm white and I'm voting for him. I'm white, hard-working with no college education, middle classed, middle aged AND a woman and I'm voting for Obama, not that crazed Hillary.
- Eiknujrac, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1You know what, screw it.
My state sometimes seems insignificant in the General Election. I wish we would move up our state's vote for the general to August, so we could have more influence. I know this would cause the votes to not be counted, but I'm willing to take that chance. Maybe if I just whine enough come November they will just count the votes, and then EVERY state can move up their general election into august! If they try to discount our votes, based on their silly rules, we can just claim that they are disenfranchising the entire state! Brilliant! -
