- Bushlied, on 10/10/2007, -11/+96Na, but he very well can extend his Dictatorship as long as he wants. ***** Bush and his treasonous supporters.
- aydoubleyou, on 10/10/2007, -6/+87If Bush became our president for life, someone would eventually (sooner rather than later) assassinate him.
Dont come after me FBI... I'm just stating the inevitable. - whathappened, on 10/10/2007, -11/+88***** impeachment, America needs a revolution.
- DivineLackey, on 10/10/2007, -14/+68Reminiscent of an article on globalsoapbox.com the other day.
http://globalsoapbox.com/vieweditorials/Bush_to_assume_dictorial_powers_
I think its pretty obvious bush is looking to extend his term beyond what the "Contsitution" calls for. After all like he said, Its just a piece of paper. - WiseWeasel, on 10/10/2007, -4/+51There's a waste of a bullet that could find a more suitable home...
- jiminizer, on 10/10/2007, -2/+46wait... theres people who like Bush?
- mrASSMAN, on 10/10/2007, -3/+42Or.. shoot someone else.. cough.
- solidsnake1298, on 10/10/2007, -2/+41I saw a bumper sticker a while ago that said "Bush/Cheny '08. The law hasn't stopped us before, why should it now?"
- dime, on 10/10/2007, -1/+39Oh please. Every member of the Executive - from the soldier down to the police officer, swears an oath to defend the Constitution. If Bush were to declare himself President-for-Life, he'd be promptly removed by these folks. Aside from Bush & Cheney, I believe most Americans take such an oath very seriously.
And if they need any help, 200 million armed Americans can lend a hand. - iDragonFly, on 10/10/2007, -6/+43Holy crap!
That this was put forth by members associated with the administration is highly disturbing.
Maybe I'm just overly tired, but I have to ask - are we being prepped?
I realize that at any other time in history this question would be utterly absurd, but things appear to be rushing in a most unsettling direction. - mattfugitive, on 10/10/2007, -7/+41If Bush became president for life.. I'd shoot myself!
- Ventolin, on 10/10/2007, -4/+35If this happened, Year Zero would become a reality.
- sb66, on 10/10/2007, -7/+34war with Iran - martial law - elections suspended
it could happen - wiremonkeymommy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+24All right, you said please. The original story has never been discredited. You're welcome.
http://www.capitolhillblue.com/artman/publish/article_7779.shtml - TexanRudeBoy, on 10/10/2007, -5/+24From the front page of the site the blog linked:
"Yet in 2007 he is generally despised, with many citizens of Western civilization expressing contempt for his person and his policies, sentiments which now abound on the Internet. This rage at President Bush is an inevitable result of the system of government demanded by the people, which is Democracy."
Its not his fault we hate him, its democracy's. Stupid free speech. - rationalist, on 10/10/2007, -3/+20I'm sorry, can you link us to an organization at the time that included former senior government officials and party muckamucks on its advisory board, that featured calls to eliminate democracy, suspend the Bill of Rights and appoint Bill Clinton president for life?
You're full of *****, thinking you can just pull "Clinton" out of a hat every time and distract people from what is going on today. - noisician, on 10/10/2007, -3/+20what did Malcovich's assassin character say in the film In the Line of Fire?
"I am willing to trade my life for his. I am smart and I am willing, and that is all it takes. That president is coming home from California in a ***** box." - stmiller, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19b....bu...but CLINTON!
- zolaar, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18You mean 200 million armed terrorist insurgents?
- Aticper, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17Let's see here, lying to the public, gross financial misconduct, funding enemy combatants, possible vote rigging, evading military duty, illegally spying on american citizens without warrants... the list goes on.
All Clinton had to do was lie about an affair... shouldn't we be thinking about a military execution at this point? - socokoolaid, on 10/10/2007, -4/+20Sounds like treason to me!
- tophu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14"The Imperial Senate will no longer be of any concern to us. I have just received word that the Emperor has dissolved the council permanently. The last remnants of the Old Republic have been swept away."
- miriclaire, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14I believed it the first time I read that he said that -- because he seems capable of it. I later read an article discounting it. Once something starts to snowball, it's hard to reign it in. People didn;t make it up in droves; they just believed it. And you know what? It is not important what he says, it is only important how he acts. And he certainly ACTS like he thinks your constitution is only a piece of paper. That's good enough for me.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14you get to chose corporate front man or other corporate front man, how will that help?.
- 5xSTUN, on 10/10/2007, -6/+18Wait a second... "Family Security Matters"... FSM... FLYING SPAGHETTI MONSTER!
Y'AAAARRR, it be a conspiracy, matey! - Aticper, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14I'm guessing the only reason he isn't dead already can be summed up neatly in two words: 'President Cheney'.
- evilregis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12So the link to the cached version of the website is biased too? In case you're too lazy to check...
http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:cnnnSRimWmcJ:www.familysecuritymatters.org/index.php%3Fid%3D1208571+%22president+for+life+bush%22+site:familysecuritymatters.org&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=3&gl=us&client=firefox-a
Another choice quote from the biased cache of FSM's website:
The wisest course would have been for President Bush to use his nuclear weapons to slaughter Iraqis until they complied with his demands, or until they were all dead. Then there would be little risk or expense and no American army would be left exposed. But if he did this, his cowardly electorate would have instantly ended his term of office, if not his freedom or his life. - TexanRudeBoy, on 10/10/2007, -4/+15Exactly. Read the "Road to Power" section and tell me it isn't starting to sound too familiar for comfort: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hitler
- pnyphnz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Two letters is the difference between male and female.
- Dracos, on 10/10/2007, -5/+15These freaks are going to get their wish, I'm afraid.
Rove resigning makes no sense. Tony Snow is going to resign ( http://thinkprogress.org/2007/08/16/more-resignations-to-come/ ) and says still more will leave.
This misadminstration is willfully falling apart... is anyone else alarmed by this, given the edict by Josh Bolton that anyone still around on Labor Day has to stay until the end of the term?
Neocon maniacs are calling for "another 9/11" to "unite the country". I think they actually mean martial law is coming, and the catalytic event (read: excuse) is already planned. - MacSuxWindozSux, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10He won't be a permanent President. The powers that be (money) will control who can be elected, and therefore who is elected.
So it'll always be "their man", in the Oval Office.
A permanent President would only cause a civil war, but the Illusion of democracy keeps the uninformed in check. - Jmuduke, on 10/10/2007, -5/+15Disgusting
- remccain, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10You're an American? Civics was in 9th grade. Here's a fresher course.
http://www.infoplease.com/spot/impeach.html
"...the President, Vice President, and all civil officers of the United States shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors."
And as any cop will tell you, if they want to haul you in on a misdemeanor charge, it's not hard to find one. - gwolf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9He broke the first promise any president makes when they take the office, to Preserve and Defend the constitution of the United States. Bush has been doing nothing but ignoring or re-writing it from the day he got in to office and provably before that.
He and his friends are without question traitors and as all members of the executive branch take the same oath as the president, they are just as guilty as he. - dopplerdog, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Agreed, it will never happen. What's significant is that this group even *exists*. What is going wrong with the US????
- bitcloud, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9are you kidding me?
Torture?
Removal of Presumption of innocence?
Wiretapping?
Illegal War?
Genocide (600,000+)
When exactly do you wake up? - Optimus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Google cache of the article in question -->
http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:cnnnSRimWmcJ:www.familysecuritymatters.org/index.php%3Fid%3D1208571+%22president+for+life+bush%22+site:familysecuritymatters.org&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=3&gl=us&client=firefox-a - rationalist, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9RFTA, which does not suggest that Bush will be president for life; the article is about a group that advocates that, which includes some senior former government officials and prominent Republicans on its advisory board (although Cheney is not on the list on their site, despite what the article claims).
- terminal157, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Ron Paul voted to increase the power of the executive? Is that the same Ron Paul who is a consummate small-government conservative that votes down everything that violates a narrow reading of the constitution? You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. And yet you speak as if you do. You call yourself "rationalist"? Ugh. You disgust me.
- Optimus, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10It exists. They deleted it from the website. You can see the google cache of it here -->
http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:cnnnSRimWmcJ:www.familysecuritymatters.org/index.php%3Fid%3D1208571+%22president+for+life+bush%22+site:familysecuritymatters.org&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=3&gl=us&client=firefox-a
Enjoy - tophu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Members of the armed forces swear an oath to defend the Constitution from all enemies. I take my oath very seriously, and a president who would attempt a feat such as this would quickly find himself arrested by those armed defenders he thought he commanded.
- pintomp3, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9no, diebold chooses for you.
- zephc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Also hilarious: another FSM 'report' of an imminent hit on several US cities simultaneously... but the report was a virtual copy-pasta from over 2 years ago in the WorldNetDaily:
http://irregulartimes.com/index.php/archives/2007/08/09/2-year-old-terror-threat-dredged-up-trail-leads-to-bush-admin/
Caught once again with their hands in the cookie jar!
Gotta love an organization that says they're “committed to the time-tested philosophy of promoting international peace through American strength.” Yes, time-tested and proven to fail over and over.
Center for Security Policy: Promoting peace with an iron fist! - 3tcp, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10You're right. Also, gullible is not in the dictionary. Check it.
- miriclaire, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10And bull and bullet>...
- wendelgee2, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Yeah, except the fate of the free world rests on this. Get some perspective.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Sounds like the Communist Party's version of democracy.
While there may be multiple candidates on the ballot, they neglect to mention that they're all from the same party. Just vote for the guy with the nicest hair. Either way, you're still voting for us. - tophu, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8We send Mace Windu to arrest him. What's the worst that could happen?
- remccain, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7that's a band-aid, not a solution.
- clark24, on 10/10/2007, -8/+15As much as I loathe the current administration there is no chance that it will ever happen -- even if they tried.
