- wwwonka, on 08/30/2008, -8/+84I watched it on You Tube tonight with an open mind. No, I am not a blind follower of anyone...BUT his words spoke to a place inside of me and to who I am...an American, a veteran, a struggling middle class American, unattached to any political party or label.
Moved to say the least. I imagine this is how it must felt to listen Kennedy....simply perfect. - AxmxZ, on 08/29/2008, -12/+81Basically, a very good campaign speech on steroids, which is precisely what he needed most. A thorough and neatly sewn-up pitch of his vision, policies, character and potential coupled with a gauntlet thrown to McCain: come and get it, old man - I'm ready. I give it an A.
- AndrewDB, on 08/30/2008, -10/+76A++++ Would listen again. Will vote for in 08!!!!11
- Zap2, on 08/30/2008, -5/+48No grade for Kucinich's speech? Come on, it was great!
- KingGorilla, on 08/30/2008, -18/+55I heard that every time Obama makes a speech an angel has an orgasm
- NiGHTSChao, on 08/30/2008, -9/+36A
- Gutommy, on 08/29/2008, -3/+29I actually got a little chuckle from this comment thinking surely it was sarcastic. Then I checked your other comments and you seem to be serious. Obama and Paul are about as far away from each other on policy as we have in American politics. They have similar views on the war but aside from that I can't imagine what would be considered plagiarized. Maybe some of the more generic stuff, but everyone uses similar general stuff. I'm digging you down but if you can show me proof of Obama's plagiarism and why the "Jew" controlled media would work so hard to cover that up I will digg you back up.
- ScientistBlah, on 08/30/2008, -12/+33***** the republican invasion of digg. This ***** is starting to get annoying.

- joeyjj, on 08/30/2008, -1/+21..from the Daily Show.
- JohnnyMarr, on 08/30/2008, -2/+21He was engaging, up-front, and even a bit on the offensive. He finally went into specifics of what he means by "change" and took a few jabs at McCain instead of waiting for McCain to strike first. This is what Democrats have been needing to do for a while. We need to stop waiting and even worse, commending McCain because at no time will you hear him commending Obama for the things he's done. Even better, he's proven that he's not a Dukakis, Gore, or Kerry and can fight for the office of the Presidency. Democrats have to rely on more than gaffes and other screw-ups from the Republicans, especially when we have a tendency to snatch defeat from the hands of victory.
Grade: A+ - inactive, on 08/30/2008, -4/+23I love how he had to say "thank you" about 30 times because the crowd was cheering so much
- TheAmazingBob, on 08/30/2008, -0/+18Oh... not just angels.
- HedwigDies, on 08/30/2008, -19/+36Great speech from a great man ready to be president. Hopefully Obama/Biden will be able to stay afloat amidst all this hype McCain/Palin is generating. How can you even take that woman seriously??? Look what she named her kids:

Trig? Are you serious? Who are you lady! - EtherGnat, on 08/30/2008, -3/+19To be fair giving speeches IS a pretty big part of the President's job. He has to inspire a nation, motivate Congress to follow his lead, and move other countries to follow America's leadership. Who can deny the influence of Reagan with "Mr. Gorbachev tear down this wall!"; FDR with “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself”; and Kennedy with "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country".
I find it sad that we seem to have forgotten the power a good speech can have over the past eight years. At our most trying moments Bush has been either absent completely or ineffective at inspiring a nation. Yes, speeches alone rarely solve anything, but they sure can pave the road for real action to take place. - lovebuttons, on 08/30/2008, -9/+24Most impressive. The republicans will not be able to match.
- STPZ, on 08/30/2008, -4/+18Now for fairness I expect a rating of major RNC speeches too.
- rdoger6424, on 08/30/2008, -0/+13"Thank you" is the new "Shut up"
- Digglet69, on 08/30/2008, -2/+14A+ and 2 gold stars
- apothekari, on 08/29/2008, -3/+14You ought to see his other posts where he said it {Obama's Speech}reminded him of The Nuremburg rallies in WWII.
Methinks he doth protest too much. - StarofTroy, on 08/30/2008, -3/+14F. Have you heard McCain talk?
- ZeroFive1, on 08/30/2008, -2/+13I don't think these are republicans.
I think they are the Paulites coming back from a winter migration. - Wangarang, on 08/30/2008, -12/+22Grade A bitches!!!
- joshfitz, on 06/15/2009, -4/+14If you REALLY didn't want McCain, you would vote for Obama. By not voting at all, you strengthen McCain's chance to win.
I wasn't particularly gung-ho about Kerry or Gore, but I was quite positive that the alternative would be a disaster. - mcsenget, on 08/30/2008, -8/+18Did anybody else get this: At first Obama said something like: "Government can not solve all problems, but there are some things that it can do..."
he then proceeded to list just about everything you could ever hope for the government to do for you... keep you safe, provide affordable healthcare, affordable college education, give every child a good education, etc, etc.
So...what were those problems that the government could not solve?? - piratearggghhh, on 08/30/2008, -0/+9I can't wait for them to grade the McCain version.
- elipabst, on 08/30/2008, -0/+9He picked his own name?
- elipabst, on 08/30/2008, -0/+8Why, because he chose to go by something more socially mainstream as a child/young man? The fact that he grew up and embraced his given name should be an insight into the strength of his character.
- wafla, on 08/30/2008, -4/+12Let's just say that a President's job is communicating. Now do you begin to see...?
- inhaler, on 08/30/2008, -1/+9dems != diggers
Just throwing that out there for ya. It's a free one. - supermanly, on 08/30/2008, -0/+8Parenting of one's own child(ren). The government cannot shut off the TV for you and be a part of your kid's life.
- elipabst, on 08/30/2008, -0/+7Be a responsible parent. Sacrifice time (e.g. military or community service) for your country.
- bravo1995, on 08/30/2008, -1/+8Why, because she was mayor of a city of 9000 people? Give me a break.
- wafla, on 08/30/2008, -2/+9Wait until they start talking about it in your 9th grade gov't class, on Tuesday.
- Dgen_X, on 08/30/2008, -1/+8So that's why the rain has been tasting like semen lately...
- turiya04, on 08/30/2008, -1/+8The other thing that can be done is to actually force corporations to pay reasonable taxes. Then, corporations who actually invest in American jobs can see tax breaks. As it stands, all corporations are free to double dip -- very little cost of doing business in the U.S. and they can save even more money by sending labor overseas. If corporations are paying taxes, they can choose between saving money by sending labor overseas, or cooperating with government to obtain tax incentives by supporting U.S. labor. If those factors even roughly balance out, the consumer gets to make the final decision about who takes home their spending cash.
- Infidelcastr0, on 08/30/2008, -1/+8Ah yes, Reagan. Conservative promises, Record deficits. Sounds familiar...
- P522, on 08/30/2008, -1/+8"So...what were those problems that the government could not solve??"
1. Respond to standing water in New Orleans?
continue? Do you remember that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police arrived to help in NO before the Federal government? - paidhima, on 08/30/2008, -1/+8You could decide to embrace the views you have, liberal or otherwise, and feel comfortable knowing that you've got a fully functional brain that can separate the idea from the ideologue.
- wafla, on 08/30/2008, -0/+6The concept was that we can meet people halfway or better. If people do this-n-that, they should expect that-n-this from the rest of us. This isn't happening right now. Right now it's "You do this-n-that, and then you're on your own." He was saying that we can do better. Importantly, we=government, since we're Americans.
The concept is a Republican one, fwiw. - Ajajadude, on 08/30/2008, -6/+12You mean how he has supported Bush's failed policies for years? Oh, wait, that's McCain...
- StarofTroy, on 08/30/2008, -1/+7/sarcasm
you forgot something dude. - IndigoMoss, on 08/30/2008, -2/+8I hope Time does this for the Republican convention speeches too. I thought they really grabbed the general feeling of the speeches really well. It will be interesting to see how McCain does after the huge success of Obama's speech.
What I'm hoping is that McCain doesn't just keep going on about war and Christian fundamentalist values, which is what he has been doing so far. - fajitamelt, on 08/30/2008, -0/+6Up! UUUUUUPPP!!!
- bravo1995, on 08/30/2008, -1/+7Explain below exactly how he is "conning" the American people, citing specific examples:
- MrSkrilla, on 08/30/2008, -1/+7hahahahahaha you are an idiot
- Dgen_X, on 08/30/2008, -0/+6I'd give him a D, better than W Bush...but not quite average
- lhbaker, on 08/30/2008, -0/+6I watched it with a die-hard anarchist last night. Granted, we got *****, but he actually admitted that Obama got to him, and that he would probably vote. I hope he wasn't in a black-out.
- StarofTroy, on 08/30/2008, -3/+8Dude... Audience is key in speech making. This speech wasn't for Diggers who've been hot for any news topic with Obama in it. This speech was for your average American who doesn't really pay attention to politics. You really expected him to detail his tax plan? This was an overview not a lecture.
- palanthos, on 08/30/2008, -1/+6Excellent for who?
