- fernB, on 10/11/2007, -24/+135Thats why Gore/Obama would totally win in 2008!
- obliviousfool, on 10/11/2007, -17/+60I'd vote for him (again!)
- smackhero, on 10/11/2007, -11/+46i would definitely vote for gore/obama. any combination of gore/obama/edwards, actually.
we are in desperate need of progressive reforms in government. - 1laradream, on 10/11/2007, -8/+42Would love Gallup to do a poll to see what Gore's rating would be if he ran.
- WickedDrag0oN, on 10/11/2007, -7/+28What the ***** are you talking about? The only people who associate "Liberal" with "Socialist" are people like you and people who want to discredit Democrats agenda as communist banter.
I am a rather conservative Democrat, I did not support the amnesty bill that was finally shot down... I regard your comment as ignorant. - Langford, on 10/11/2007, -7/+26Anyone but Hillary.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -20/+38Being the president of the US does not mean that you are King of the U.S. or someone "at the controls" unilaterally. Many people have that unconscious sentence in their head, including the current president ( and look how successful he has been ). It is a game of compromise between STRONG and competing interests, just like it is for any lowly congressmen, just with more power.
Sometimes, a talented person with resources who truly cares about an issue can get a lot more done as an activist for the issue, then being a president.
I think Gore has shown that.
An Inconvenient Truth brought a movement to life. That is far more then I think he could have done as president.
I'm glad he is not going to be president. He will get a lot more done for America as an enivonmental activist then he will as a president controlled by various interests. - bobbyi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17I regard your sister as dangerously fellatious.
- caselogic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15Its actually Connecticut
- GreyICE, on 10/11/2007, -4/+19If by "lost" you mean "got more votes than" I'd agree.
- AndrewDB, on 01/10/2008, -2/+17I would too. Voted Gore in the last election, I'd gladly vote for him again.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15You do realize that spamming this on almost every thread is not endearing your cause to anyone yes?
- redington, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13I disagree. The power to make appointments that can pass important rules and make important interpretations to legislation (I know, judiciary's job, but the administrative agencies are given quite a bit of latitude in their interpretations) and do the important work of enforcement, cf the current Admin's work on the Clean Air Act, would make him FAR more powerful as President.
- smackhero, on 10/11/2007, -5/+17actually, gore accomplished a lot as VP under clinton, which might have been the best role for him at the time. however, he is older and more experienced now, and i'd be interested in seeing how he would do if he were to take the helm.
you are right that he has accomplished a lot in the private sphere that he probably couldn't have done as a politician--this includes working with businessmen, private citizens, and transcending party politics to complete humanitarian works and other societally beneficial projects. but An Inconvenient Truth was really about raising awareness, as was much of his work outside of political life. i think that that goal has been accomplished, and the new goal is wrestling control of public policy from big industry and the neocons.
the current struggle simply cannot be won without a grassroots leader who is truly dedicated to the cause of societal change and environmental/social reform. the role of the presidency, as you said, isn't just about unilateral control, the presidency is a national symbol and ought to be an embodiment of the nation's core values and the spirit of the people. as much as we need political reform, we also need cultural changes, and the leader of our nation the president has the power to shape our cultural attitude.
just as the bush administration's fear & war-mongering fostered a culture of intolerance and anti-intellectualism and turned the U.S. into a militant & xenophobic reactionary society, progressive leadership can also turn our society around and foster a more forward thinking, socially progressive, and environmentally conscious national culture. - ice1000, on 10/11/2007, -6/+18Re-elect Al Gore!
- webcure, on 10/11/2007, -7/+17The Proverbial Wild Card! Keeps everyone awake.
- yargthepirate, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12No. The real question is: will they learn the correct use of an exclamation point!
- jtryba, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Bill Richardson? For some reason I get the feeling you haven't watched any of the Democratic debates. He certainly has a great resume, but he sounds like an idiot when he's forced to give an answer that he doesn't have preformulated. He should fire the debate coach who told him that repeating the same intro to every answer is a good idea.
- iceman0113, on 10/11/2007, -15/+23Gore/Gravel
- writingrights, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11Oh, Gore has the whole country paranoid?
And just WHAT do you think this administration has been doing by claiming every few moments that there'll be another terrorist attack and raising the "Alert Level" to orange? - aeiou, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9I'm sure He has had an iPhone for quite a while now. All the members of the board got one (i think) at the initial announcement, or close to that anyways.
- springo, on 10/11/2007, -5/+13If Gore ran, he could win (again)
- mdkoch84, on 10/11/2007, -9/+16If he ran, could the Democratic ticket get any stronger!
- johnhummel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Let's see - last time I checked, Mr. Obama voted against funding for the war in the last vote. He wasn't in office during the first Patroit Act vote. Bush/Cheney might have committed impeachable offenses, with buth a bare majority in the Senate and a slimmer one in congress, getting the Republicans to agree wwould be a massive waste of time for a guy who will be out of office in 18 months - about the time he could be impeached in anyway.
So instead, he wants to focus on things that can be done - checking power, conducting investigations to keep keep corruption down, and running for office himself. Sounds fine for me. - mattsw84, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7It borders on bizarre that you would know that.
- cybermort, on 10/11/2007, -6/+12plus you know he has an iPhone by now. all the fanboys would vote for him.
- hoovcluck, on 10/11/2007, -13/+19He did carry the whole country though. We voted for Gore and got Bush. Either way we were *****.
- FyreGoddess, on 10/11/2007, -8/+14Thank you for saying that. I wholeheartedly agree. Considering that Gore has a specific issue that he's passionate about, I can't understand why so many people want to see that watered down by him being responsible for the day-to-day running of the country.
Gore would be much more effective in a cabinet position or even remaining a private citizen. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one thinking along these lines. - CaesarBlue, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Oh and don't forget the other side of this issue, the Veto power. You can do a lot to prevent things from happing as president.
- ADanInTheLife, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Then check out the Gallup website.
http://www.galluppoll.com/content/default.aspx?ci=17785&pg=1 - dhVyse, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Also, Mr. Spamtastic, in case you didn't know, if you ever went to vote, you can quite literally vote for anyone Eligable to be president, even if their name isn't on the ballot box.
- cybermort, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6do you even know how far apart those two really are?
- iJump, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4For those who don't understand what cybermort is saying, Al Gore is currently sits on the board of directors for Apple.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Gore%27s_contributions_to_the_internet_and_technology#Post-Vice_Presidency:_Apple.2C_Google.2C_and_the_Webbys
(Damn, aeiou beat me to it) - PamalaLauren, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4That'd be so nice. There's a reason this country is where it's at now and it's because idiots vote down party lines. I myself have chosen to educate myself on politicians and vote on the issues, not the political party they belong to. It's too bad that the really kick ass candidates happen to be the ones that will never get into office because they don't belong to the two major political parties.
- bubba9999, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Al should wait 6 more months, then declare. He'll save a ton of campaign money for an ad and bumper sticker blitz, he won't have to monkey for the cameras for all of that time, and he won't have to tangle with negative press. He can swoop in and scoop up all of the confused voters for the primaries and tack Obama or Hillary on as VP for the big show.
- bolerobell, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Umm, when they rolled out Digg 2.0 in order to encourage people to post a wider diversity of news stories to the site?
- BrandonMills, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Gore? Run for the Green Party? You did watch the results of the 2000 election, right? I don't think he'd be too keen on running for the party that lost him the election.
- Terr01, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6Don't forget Nader. If he hadn't run, the polls and voting state are pretty clear Gore would have won.
- TantrooM, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3The reason he is not running is simple: Would you want to run against your friend's wife? I mean, Hillary is very sensitive to competition, and Al wouldn't want to put Bill through her wrath.
- Tabou, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I'd say his own state IS "the idiot" for not voting for him.
- SurrealLogic, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6Ouch. Racism lessons from the confederate flag penguin.
- spinchange, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Richardson would be a fantastic VP to any Democratic Candidate. In fact, not nominating him as VP is really a waste to the party. I think Gore would be the best President from that field of contenders, and I am to the right of all of them. Clinton is the next most qualified and would probably be the best staffed.
- Hangender, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Gore is waiting for that dramatic entrance moment, you know, like those guys in the movies. The only problem is, you never know when those moments are.
- jamesallen74, on 10/11/2007, -6/+8It never was small under Republicans idiot.
Keep government small and keep Big Businesses like Enron, WalMart, Haliburton BIG....if you are an idiot like "spoileralert" - JebBlack, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1God save us all!
- RussellDovey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1When's hurricane season in the US?
- gentmax, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Describing Gore as someone with 'more oomf' is very funny.
- DangerCollie, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Actually not a bad idea. Strategically Gore/Clinton would likely be an unbeatable ticket. Gore would get the benefit of having Bill Clinton on the campaign trail and people who might not be comfortable voting for a female president, might be more comfortable with Hillary in the VP slot.
- th3wiz4rd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Oh hell yeah Gore+Obama = badass = me cancelling my permanent vacation to Canada!!!
