Immunity is the policy of corruption but it comes with a price--it scars the defenders and degrades their credibility. - quakerorts, on 10/11/2007, -3/+43This time by his own department.
- understudy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20
It's laughable in some ways, but quite scary at the same time how tolerant our elected officials are of bad government.
_ - Waiting2awake, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20 Nothing will happen with this. Until the American people decide to take their country back, these criminals(Or ones just like them) will continue to strip away your rights, skim your money from you, rack up your debt - and then expect you to say thanks to them for the honour of being screwed by them.
- venicerocco, on 10/11/2007, -0/+18Let me guess... He doesn't recall?

"They can be hired and fired for any reason."
If the president fired them in order to obstruct justice it is a crime. Regadless of how many times the right wing claims it isnt a crime. - lakush, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16What about this scandal?
http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/march2007/260307pedophilescandal.htm - simiya, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13Let's just hope that this time Investigation takes advantage of being on top and screws Gonzales real good.
- snullbug, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9@stevebee
This is not about appointment or dismissal, RTFA - it's about lying under oath - the same issue that all the Republican fanboys like to trumpet when someone suggests that Clinton was impeached because of a BJ. - defektiv, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8what amazes me is how sluggish action seems to be.. when the republicans tried to tear down clinton they moved faster than money from the hands of a campaign contributor to the GOP. this fool (and his crony bush loyalists) are lying AND THE PROOF IS IN VIDEO.. yet it's still this tip-toe around like a vulture trying to pick at a carcass that lions are tearing apart.
- Kikinou, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8@stevebee:
Yes, you can fire them all when you first enter office, and that is fine. But when you fire well-performing U.S. attorneys in mid term for no visible reason, bells should go off in your head no? Come on, what would you be saying if Clinton had fired U.S. attorneys in mid term? That's right.
Also -- perjury is a big deal, whether or not the thing you're lying about is a big deal or not. You can't lie to congress under oath any more than you can lie to a grand jury or in a trial. You say we accuse Republicans of trying to impeach Clinton for having gotten a B.J. in the oval office, but you immediately point out that it was for perjury. So which is it then? Make up your mind and remove the partisan blinders. And turn off Faux News and Rush Limbaugh while you're at it. - InfamousAtheist, on 10/11/2007, -4/+11Let's hope this investigation doesn't get squashed by the guys at the top... I'm surprised as hell it's happening at all.
- jrstinkfish, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7The crime is obstruction of justice by interfering with an investigation and lying under oath. So yes, there is a crime here.
- orp2000, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6So this guy's standard M.O. is just do anything you want, legal or not, and it's ok because you can just lie about it later? Beautiful. Great philosophy for an Attorney General. No wonder he fits so well in this, the worst administration we've ever had. Bush, Cheney, Rove, Gonzales, and all your cronies, you can all go straight to hell. You have stood here too long. We're tired of your lies, your greed, your lack of anything resembling integrity or humanity, your war mongering, your long term covert strategies for disaster, your stupidity, your un-American behavior, your elitism, your obvious Faustian deals...you suck...quit screwing up our country and our world...get out, and take your pathetic little blackened souls and your Blackwater friends with you! We're through with you, we've had enough!
- snullbug, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I'm having a very hard time trying to understand why there is whining about appointment and dismissal when this is about lying under oath.
- swrostmore, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6@steve its obvious you have a very limited grasp of current events, and haven't really been following this scandal. so why even bother commenting? do you get off on revealing your ignorance to the internets?
- GreenPlastik, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5@stonerider:
If all Obama did during his campaign was to point out that the Bush administration is the worst in the history of our country for the vast majority of its citizens' rights and opportunities as well as for global good will towards America, that would make me appreciate him a lot more. As of yet none of the big ticket candidates on either side of the party line have come out and taken the president to task in a hostile way. It's all too cordial. How about "You are a greedy liar and you built your broken legacy on the bloated backs of the corpses of those you sent in your stead. Mission accomplished indeed, given your mission to subjugate the will of the people for the luxury of the selected few. You have no regard for the Constitution and you and your henchmen should likely be in jail"
Anything like that would do. I wish Obama or anyone for that matter would stand up and say the things that orp2000 did in public.
That being said, I thought you wrote "Is that you Osama" and was about to rip you a new one. No harm no foul, I guess. - norman619, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8What about the guy indicted for corruption? It's ***** insane. They waitied for him to get brought up on charges before even thinking about removing him. WTF?!
- david76, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5@steve
I'm so glad you approve of putting politics above justice. Bravo!!! I mean, what's the point of having the power of justice if you can't have it thwarted so easily by political motivations and whims, right?
/sarcasm - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4When you elect people who hate government to be the government, you shouldn't be surprised when they govern poorly. The USA needs to elect people who want better government to be our government.
It's not rocket science. - peeinian, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4In related news... http://www.theonion.com/content/news/shaking_off_amnesia_gonzales
- norman619, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6You speak as if this is something new. It's business as usual here. The American peopel have been hapy to bend over and take it for a very long time now. I don't see any outrade from the public when the new folks in power hold secret meets to try and rush carp through w/o letting the public review it or question them on it. They swored there would be transparancy and we have yet to see this happen. It's a joke. It's not a dem or rep problem. It's a US government problem. People continue to be disctracted by the party politics and ignore what is directly in front of them.
Thank you sir, may I have another? Grrr - rzurad, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5@norman619
I don't recall that. - ZWarren69, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4What about this scandal...
This may, very well, change your life.
http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Zeitgeist_The_Movie - norman619, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3If I had my way I'd have the whole lot arrested and locked away. They have been screwing thepeopel way too long. We need to remember the balls our ancestors had when they gave King George the finger. We need that kind of out rage.
Now exscuse me while I sit by the door and wait for my visit from the secret service or homeland security or both. - Leomarth, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4WHAAAA? A government official lying? And yet most people will still want to put more power into government hands. Amazing.
- brister, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4The president isn't the only one supporting this lying hack. Most of the Republicans are too.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19165190/
Make sure to make them pay for it in the next election. - moxley, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3okay.
so who's going to be the American Robespierre? - lopla, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Gonzales could eat the heads of 50 babies on national TV and nothing would happen other than Bush approving of it.
- Ramble, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Really? I don't recall that.
- HinDeSky, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Until the scumbag yes man is in jail I won't be satisfied.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3What the hell, this guy is bringing his 3rd world country style corruption into our government justice system.
I don't care if he is Mexican, he is just the wrong Mexican for the job. A day laborer can do a better job at this. - dadavexx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3All this time - Gonzo has been playing the fool, its not because he is totally stupid. Tis to take the "Fool" off of the real fool - Bush. Bush has to keep his last 30% of supporters some way, and this is probably one of the few ways left.
Lets call Gonzo - the pink stuff - Insulation. - otero1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Gonzales is the biggest tio taco I've ever seen. People like him give a bad name to us mexicans.
"OMG WHAT DOES TIO TACO MEAN"
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Tio+Taco - callofduty2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I am prepared ......................................................... to lie.
- kamiller, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2If I was part of this current administration I would want to be found be guilty before Bush gets out of office so that I could get pardoned.
- Zoophagous, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Raise your hand if this surprises you.
- M4tt3r, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2That p.o.s. always has that smirk (smile) on his face. I sooo wish I could knee him in the face.
- nricciar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2its amazing that people don't get this very basic idea. If someone believes that something can do no good guess what when they get control of it they will run it even further into the ground.
- stepnw1f, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2@brister,
They walk lock step with each other. It truly appears to be a well co-ordinated effort by the Republican Party to protect their own even if they are committing crimes. What's worse is, this isn't just unethical, it's a High Crime by a top official, which is being protected by the President himself. How low can one go???? - HallsOfMandos, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Well worth the watch. The section on the Jesus myth and how it relates to countless others in the ancient world due it being primarily based off of the zodiac was particularly eye-opening.
- ichbinladen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It's a terrible shame that the first Hispanic AG turned out to be one of the crookedest government officials in US history. Not surprising considering where Alberto's loyalties lie, but a shame nonetheless.
- sk33lz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I didn't...eh exhale. -Gutter
- ichbinladen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Gonzales puts off that "pedophile vibe" much like those guys on To Catch a Predator. In that regard it doesn't surprise me that he would try to protect his own.
- almostspastic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I'm actually quite surprised that I haven't received a visit from the feds yet...
- otero1, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1OMG BREAKING:
- faskippy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0For the millionth...yes it is a crime to cover up a crime by lying under oath. Just as it is a crime to obstruct justice in an investigation. Yuh huh.
- faskippy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0@brister...yes, but not by electing a hillary. That would be like cutting your nose off to spite your face.
- CleverEve, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0WTF
- stonerider, on 10/11/2007, -4/+0Is that you, Obama?
