- SheilaNoya, on 10/10/2007, -2/+38May have committed perjury? Gonzales has already flat out lied to Congress on several occasions. Quit screwing around and officially press charges against this creep. It's time to remove him as the legal buffer who protects Bush and Cheney. After Gonzales is out of the way, it's time to go for the jugular and press charges against Cheney, then Bush. "Executive Privelege" can't be used to withold information in a criminal case.
- AnaHadWolves, on 10/10/2007, -2/+32Dear God! When will this clown circus, posing as an administration, pull up the stakes on their little sideshow of a carnival and slink quietly out of town?
You'd think Ringling Brothers/Barnum & Bailey would sue them all for stealing their act. - GunsGermsSteel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17Can't we all agree, that no matter what truth lies behinds these deceptions and misdirections, that Alberto Gonzales presents himself to Congress as a man who is way too stupid to be running the Justice Department?
- eexlebots, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12IN the case of investigations and such they have the power to hold people under oath and such. Remember that many in congress are/were lawyers. Congress has the power to act like a court and to hold trials-such as happens when the President is impeached.
It has always been like this. - otheruser, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Hey, uh, "Raw Story" is an "actual, independent news source". They have plenty of well recognized investigative journalists working for them. Just because they can't afford to be on television, it doesn't mean they're non-journalistic.
They've actually exposed a great deal of important stories: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raw_story#Broken_stories
But, in response to your question about "LGF and Michelle Malkin":
Little Green Footballs is known to have a tremendous amount of racist and bigotted users, many are actually within the primary staff.
Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Green_Footballs#Claims_of_anti-Arab_and_anti-Muslim_sentiment
Michelle Malkin is known to be very anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim, and an extremist in many of her views (she wrote a book in support of Japanese internment and an article in support of alarmist-style ethnic/racial profiling).
Now, I'm not sure what "liberal sites" you're going to, but I've never been to one that supports racism and bigotry. - otheruser, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7There is no controversy. Congress has the power and the obligation to investigate corruption within the government. But don't take my word:
"One of the foremost non-legislative functions of the Congress is the power to investigate and to oversee the executive branch. This is called congressional oversight. This power is usually delegated to United States congressional committees—standing committee, select and special committee, select committees, or joint committee composed of members of both houses.
Investigations are conducted to gather information on the need for future legislation, to test the effectiveness of laws already passed, and to inquire into the qualifications and performance of members and officials of the other branches. Committees may hold hearings, and, if necessary, compel individuals to testify by issuing subpoenas. Witnesses who refuse to testify may be cited for contempt of Congress, and those who testify falsely may be charged with perjury. Most committee hearings are open to the public (the House and Senate intelligence committees are the exception); important hearings are widely reported in the mass media."

Also, please take a look at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congressional_oversight - Innova69, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7All good points, but the rules in the USSA are changing at a near daily rate.
- 7goats, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Um, people do not have to be sworn in per se. All testimony in Congress must be factual and accurate. It's the basis of a democracy. Otherwise, people can walk in [hey, see story above] and flat out lie and smirk and think it's all cool cuz Bush is gonna pardon me if anything goes bad. So, without any ability to compel witnesses to testify truthfully it would be a joke -- not that the Gonzo wasn't funny enough. So, now let's move back to the story: The Attorney General of the US Government thinks it's OK to lie to Congress. Furthermore, he's a total idiot. The DOJ is loosing dozens fo competent career lawyers b/c this ***** refuses to be a man and do what's best for the country, his Department and himself and quit. This is embarrassing.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Repeat after me: "I, too, am posting on Digg...."
- wendelgee2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5We all have witnessed the crime.
- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9I've said it before and I'll say it again: how can these politicians and appointees think they're going to get away with lying, bending the truth, committing crimes, etc? Gonzalez is retarded.
- tdgx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Doesn't matter if he has or not. Even if charged and convicted, Bush will just commute or pardon him, and replace him with someone who is the same. The Bush Administration is composed of strategically placed people who protect each other. Congress hasn't got the spine to do anything about it anyway, so meh.
- otheruser, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Sorry, I can't recall.
- Timetheos, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Inherent contempt and Impeachment allow them to be, in effect, a court.
- DooM, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4He didn't 'convict' him - Innova69 said that they should (and I'll quote) "officially press charges against this creep." What the hell are you talking about??
- MWeather, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Did you forget Bush can pardon people?
- spraguep, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5pardon in 3.. 2.. 1...
- tdgx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It could be, but hopefully all the scrutiny this administration has gotten will reduce those chances with slightly better public awareness. But until us Americans really stand up and call ***** and vote the cronies out of office, it'll probably continue to a good degree.
- swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Feel free to point out any instance where Raw Story does anything other than state facts. Raw Story is not a blog, they report news - the "liberal bias" is that Raw Story only reports political news, and tends to focus on scandals.
- chiggah, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1and you got buried for your *****. Life is a bitch eh?
- iamlutheran, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1WIll someone get rid of these monkeys? My four ferrets could run this government better than these bloody losers.
- havesometea, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Welcome to the Grand Illusion!
- FRANKeB, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3First off, I am a libertarian-leaning person but agree with some of the policies of both Democrats and the Fascists, I mean Republicans. The Dems and other politicians won't do a thing except make some noise to appease their constituents because when they eventually get into power they will enjoy all these same law-breaking conveniences that this administration blew open.
- CourtesyFlush, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Hey, you asked for them. Burying them won't make them go away.
How amusing. - otheruser, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2And your point?
I'm REALLY tired of people that say "Dems suck, Republicans suck, everyone sucks, but I'm a libertarian!". If you disagree with both of the parties, please join one that you do support, or simply rally behind independent candidates. I honestly believed that people with your attitude (oh, the system sucks, just screw it) are the reason that our government has become to indifferent to public opinion.
If you want change, push for it. If not, quit whining. - Cellulose, on 09/02/2008, -0/+1Don't worry, it's not his fault... he didn't know about or wasn't briefed on how to handle classified material. I guess ignorance really is an excuse for breaking the law.
A different incident, but same stupidity:
http://digg.com/politics/Former_Attorney_General_m ... - FRANKeB, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Well, I'm Canadian. I vote here. What I try to do is influence the opinion of the American public so they can vote accordingly over there. Why? Because the rest of the world, unfortunately, is affected by what happens in your country. This is true despite the fact that most americans don't really know or care about the rest of the world. I say this demographically and statistically. I love americans, I hate current american policy. We are your little brothers. We love you even though we think you are the 'dumb older brother' that can kick our ass. We still enjoy breaking your balls like a little brother should.
- bizchris, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I think it's dangerous to not take action based on someone's perceived counter-action, when your action is the right one to take and theirs is not. Force them to take the counter-action, and get it on the record...
- vatosplace, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1And Gonzales is the top lawyer in the US? Best Bush could find eh. Wait until I print out my Harvard law degree!
- CourtesyFlush, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Raw story is a biased rag who has been caught reporting inaccurate horse ***** on this very site on several occasions.
You may fill your brain with unsupported garbage all you like. I'll continue to bury Raw Sewage as the propaganda mill it is.
And while I don't agree with Malkin, I've rarely read any blatant inaccuracies on her site that weren't corrected later. If you happen to find any falsehoods on her site, please let us all know instead of dismissing her for disagreeing with your obviously superior morals.
I'll read BOTH sides of an argument as long as it's all accurate and honest. - iamlutheran, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0The suspension of the 2008 election will happen sooner than you think.
- CourtesyFlush, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1FACTS?
Fred Thompson leaked information to the Nixon white house during Watergate!
[Or followed normal legal procedure, for anyone who isn't fourteen or woefully ignorant]
Bush Close to Being Criminaly Charged!
and
White House may force Congress to charge president w/ criminal charges!
[O RLY? It's been a month now. We're still waiting.]
Pentagon hides piles of IEDshredded Humvees From US Public View!
[Spun so hard it's hilarious]
Just a handful I've personally noticed as ridiculous. I'm sure there's much more where that came from. - EllimistX, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0You think 10 years from now Russians will be using the "In Soviet America..." meme?
- tokyomonster, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1i think i was misunderstood. When I say "independent", I mean free of a particular political slant, in either direction. You know, just the facts. I wasn't aware there was a problem with that. If people want to make an editorial about it, or add their feelings, in either direction, submit it to political opinion.
Just sayin'. - Frosty122, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0the sad thing is, i'm not happy about this, because i know if he is convicted of a crime (any crime), bush will commute it or pardon him.....god damn mother *****
- brandonvan, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1AnaHadWolves is a plant. but if you ever wanted a good index of rawstory articles feel free to click his/her profile.
- CourtesyFlush, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1And a fine, unbiased group of witnesses it is.
I certainly wouldn't want this lynch mob on my jury. - horatiolust, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0And you think the next administration won't be the same?
- SocialPoison, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1Buried as Rawstory bullsh*t
- FRANKeB, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2First off, I am a libertarian-leaning person but agree with some of the policies of both Democrats and the Fascists, err, I mean Republicans. The Dems and other politicians won't do a thing except make some noise to appease their constituents because when they eventually get into power they will enjoy all these same law-breaking conveniences that this administration made available. That is, unless George declares himself Dictator and suspends elections.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+0While I agree that Gonzales is a scumbag, I would find it hypocritical to convict him before he has been convicted (much less charged) with any crime. You know, presumed innocent until proven guilty.
- tokyomonster, on 10/10/2007, -12/+2I'm a "liberal" and all..but I wish we'd get less links to left leaning blogs(how are they any better than little green footballs, or michelle malkin?) and more direct links to an actual, independent news source, especially since this was posted to political NEWS, and not OPINION.
- FearlessFreep, on 10/10/2007, -14/+2OK, maybe a bit off topic but....what?
Congress is supposed to be a legislative branch, not a judicial branch. When did it start acting like a court? Why do people have to 'swear in' to 'testify' to congress 'under oath'? Shouldn't that be the role of a court somewhere? What happened to Checks & Balances that now allows the legislative branch to act like a courthouse? How does lying to the legislature become purjury? - horatiolust, on 10/10/2007, -12/+0Repeat after me: "Digg-nuts are Mental Masturbators who suffer from Keyboard Diarrhea"

What is Digg?
