- inactive, on 10/29/2007, -3/+35Actually the Dems immediately tried to end the war but Bush vetoed it, then the Republicans in Congress blocked it. Or do you not keep up with that kind of thing? Also, they would like to impeach, but it would basically stop all other Congressional business that needs to happen, which is part of a bigger plan. They've talked about many of the different avenues they may take, including cutting off funding for the war, but again if they don't have the Republican Congressional vote, then it will probably be blocked, or do you not understand how our government works? Most everyone is under the wrong impression that the Dems have enough votes now to do whatever they want, which is completely untrue. In fact they have only very limited powers at this time, which they are currently using to the fullest extent. Stop listening to the propaganda & take a poly-sci course.
- SuperCUBE, on 10/11/2007, -2/+32The Democrats have no balls and the Republicans are abusing their power. What's a citizen to do?
- totorototoro, on 10/11/2007, -2/+22Are you sure Gonzales declined? Maybe he just doesn't recall the incident :p
- xGORDOx, on 10/11/2007, -2/+22IMPEACH CHENEY IF YOU WANT, but do bear in mind that he'll preside over his own impeachment trial.
No, really. The Senate has the sole power to try impeachments. The Vice President is the President of the Senate. He presides. The Constitution provides for only one exception in cases of impeachment: "When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside." That's because of the obvious conflict-of-interest of having the VP preside when the President is tried. But there's no similar provision for having someone else preside if the Vice President is impeached.
-http://www.instapundit.com - DrDragun, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17The excuse given is that
1) you don't want to impeach during a war when the forces are deployed (morale)
2) there are many important issues that the Dems want to take care of (the energy bill, immigration, ending the war) which won't get done if they're busy impeaching. With all the debate and fighting that will happen during impeachment, it is believed that we will be leaving the troops hanging, and we won't be able to focus on ending the war.
Anyway, that's what Reid and Pelosi have said. Pelosi has specifically said impeachment is "off the table." In my opinion, it's *****. There should be no higher priority than setting a precedent that any administration which tromps all over the Constitution is going to get their ass regulated. - InetRoadkill, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14What could be more important than protecting the Constitution and the rule of law? The dems excuse that impeachment will stall their pet projects is a crock of *****.
If the tables were reversed, the repubs would be all over impeachment like flies on *****. At least the repubs have some balls -- no morals mind you, but they do got balls. The dems are spineless cowards. - littlebylittle, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13What a f-cked up mishmash of corruption and deceit.
- mikelieman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12It's a good thing for them, that they replaced all the US Attorneys with Loyal Bushies who are Politically Reliable! Having HONORABLE men and women serving would have the spectre of indictment by Grand Jury above their heads!

07-04-2007 - faskill, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Is Impeaching really going to be that bad for us?
There is a military chain of command, and an executive chain of command. If we impeach the president, then the vice president, our government wouldn't cease to function.
The Pres seems to get lower and lower approval ratings. The way I look at it, if more than the majority ( > %50 ) don't approve of how I do my job, and I do questionable things that some might call illegal, I would be either investigated or terminated or both. There would be some consequence. Why doesn't that occur for two men who have the most important jobs in our country?
(military chain of command: http://everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=1505416
executive chain of command: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/President_pro_tempore_of_the_United_States_Senate ) - bdurkin, on 10/11/2007, -4/+12They should all be taken into custody and shot or hung like Nazi war criminals because that's what they are.
- feckineejit, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Conservative talk radio gives this kind of person his political view, which is that democrats aren't doing anything except trying to stop Bush from doing his job.
Conservatives are counting on ignorance to perpetuate the notions that republicans "do what they believe is right/follow direct orders from god" while democrats "do nothing/tax us so they can spend our money on the perverted arts" - fenixadler, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Of course Gonzalez is not going to investigate his real BOSS, there would be no impeachment of that 2 crazy guys (Bush Cheney) never, cuz they are backup by lots of $$$ and oil companies..
- notque, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7So you impeach Bush, then Cheney. No conflict because Cheney will then be president. I just threw up in my mouth a little, although it's not any different than right now.
- The_Wallbanger, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Link to the full Newsweek story: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19391241/site/newsweek/
- notque, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I am a liberal. I think the Democrats are wrong, and need to vote on the issue once a day, every day, at the same time. It is wrong, they need to protest just like we need to protest. The Democrats do nothing for us. They do give tax breaks to their corporate friends just like the republicans do. We need universal healthcare, are the Democrats doing that for us? Have you read their plans? They are a mockery! If we don't work together and cooperate to get rid of these guys, we are not going to be proud of the country we live in, because the majority of people suffer while the few gain the spoils.
- faskill, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Hmmm, according to the US Census Bureau as of right now (see http://www.census.gov/main/www/popclock.html ) there are only 302,179,633 in America. I noticed you had quite a few more than that.
And you're right, the government isn't a business, any business that is in the red for as long as ours has been would've been out to pasture.
Also, you personally voted for Bush because there was nothing better out there? But yet you state others need to vote beyond party lines?
Also, who is this John Stuart you mention? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Stuart
I know Jon Stewart (of the Daily Show) wrote a couple books, could you possibly mean "Naked Pictures of Famous People"? Or perhaps "America: A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction"?
I complain because I vote. I vote because I'm tired of complaining. - omnithought, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Well, it's understandable, I mean, how can he ask questions with Cheney's ***** in his mouth?
- fuzzmeister, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Military coups don't turn out well in the long run. I recommend an expedited impeachment.
- Terr01, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I, for one, was perfectly ready to support a strategy of continually sending a similar bill to the President. He can veto all he wants, but it won't get him funding.
- toddji, on 10/11/2007, -7/+11Cheney grabs crotch while shouting "check and balance this, bitches!"
- xobecide, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I'd love to... but that's when the Transformers come out.
- tucsonsun13, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I can't say what I want to do on this site - FBI will come knocking.
- notque, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3you don't want to impeach during a war when the forces are deployed (morale)
The Iraqi people by majority want us out. We are the attackers. We have only responsibilities in Iraq, we must follow the will of the people. They want us out, we should leave. That's a pretty damning criticism of our policies that they believe us being there is worse for them. The Democrats not following through with an immediate pullout shows that we are not a democracy, they do not listen to our will, and we need to force them to bend to our wants.
Same with Universal Healthcare.
The idea that they won't get other things done is just laughable. Do what Mike Gravel said, bring it up every day at noon. Impeachment vote everyday at noon.
They aren't focused on ending the war now. They are not listening to our will, and thus need to be forced to. We need to protest outside their offices more.
Impeachment being off the table should make us attack Pelosi. George Bush is a war criminal. I don't know of any good that will come out of jailing him, but we need to get rid of him, and move towards another direction of not just cleaning up the mess he has left for us, but improving the lives of normal human beings as well.
It isn't enough to keep cleaning up the messes, and never actually getting to the helping us out. We are the highest priority. - DubbedOver, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Also, the more the republicans screw it up now, the higher the chance for the dems to come back in '08 and say we can fix all of this. The point of being a politician is to get elected and they won't get elected if they try to enact changes which the president blocks, and then nothing gets done. It looks like they didn't try hard enough.
If they wait it out and let the pres make the ***** decisions now - in '08 when it's time to vote the dems are hoping the people want them to fix all the damage done in the last 8 years.
I try to get all my friends and family into politics - they don't have to think what i think...all that matters is that they think something.
You can choose a ready guide,
in some celestial voice.
If you choose not to decide,
you still have made a choice.
You can choose from phantom fears,
and kindness that can kill.
I will choose a path that's clear.
I will choose free will. - brufleth, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Not sure why you're being dug down. You've accurately captured the "gist" of Cheney's attitude about this sort of stuff.
- InetRoadkill, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3That's not entirely true. The dems passed funding that required a show of progress and set a time table for withdrawal. Bush vetoed that. Then they caved in and passed a new bill that had no withdrawal requirements and loaded it up with pet earmarks. What a crock of *****.
If the dems want to stop funding Iraq, they could do so by simply deleting any funding of the war and there would be nothing the repubs or Bush could do about it. Only the house can introduce funding bills and the dems control the house. There is no excuse for them to cave in to Bush's demands so easily. - Drewboy64, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3The Democrats don't want to risk impeaching them because they don't have enough votes do so. We also can't end the war in Iraq because we can't override the veto. Unless the Democrats have a solid chance of a successful impeachment then I don't think the American people will see it anytime soon...
- Drewboy64, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I agree, they cave in too easy. I know the Republicans will complain saying "Democrats hate the troops. Democrats aren't giving our troops fund" as they usually do. But it's no reason to cave in, they need to stick with it, because in reality Bush won't have a chance after a while.
- icexe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Because while the Dems have a majority, they don't have enough of a majority to override a veto. This is why the Iraq spending bill died, Bush vetoed it and congress could not pull together a 2/3 majority to override it.
- faskill, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3well said
- Bdog2g2, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I just say, if they don't have to follow the law, then I don't have to pay my taxes.
- digghasnoethics, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Impeach all of them at the same time. Has anyone got a complete list of the traitors that need to go to jail? Get all of them that need to be impeached first on trial at the same time, then once they are all stripped of office shuffle them next door for the criminal trial.
Then throw them in jail and lose the key. - zobs, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3A bunch of lawless cowboys are raping this nation........!!!!!!!!!
- notque, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2If the Nuremberg trials were used, Bush would be hung. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuremberg_Trials
- notque, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Protest. Get together with others and discuss it. Create a meeting group. Look for groups in your area. Food not bombs maybe? Call them out. In polls, label yourself an independent, and tell them exactly why they are wrong. Tell others about it. Go see Sicko. Work for Mike Gravel's campaign? Do something, anything to help. I don't know what will help best in your area, but you need to do something. WE all do.
- psyjoniz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2i still want to know who's going to make the site where we all go and vote in real time on the governmental goings-on.
- otaku244, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2How about, take a civics lesson, learn about the issues and not just what shows up on Digg and pro-party websites, and (my personal favorite) VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Those who vote for the best (or, as the case has been for the last few decades, "least bad") candidates in an election force the political machine to take notice of issues affecting their constituencies lest the be ousted in the next election. Finally, if you think you can do a better job, RUN FOR OFFICE. - Waiting2awake, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2 They don't because they have been conditioned to think it is impossible. Just listen to everyone. Everyone says and sees the problems going on, but when it comes down to it they simply don't feel like they have the power....
People need to wake up and realize that the government doesn't control you, you(en mass) control them. They have to relay on your money to keep them going. You want this all to stop - stop paying taxes. Slowly stock up on food for a few weeks - enough to hold you over a couple of months at most - and then en mass stop paying taxes. Stop working, stop buying, stop paying those criminals!!!!
Organize on your street. Each day a dinner at someone elses place. Share the responsibilities for making the dinner, bringing food, etc. Use that time to strengthen the bonds with your neighbors - you are all in this together. Divided you fall. - pixbot07, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The Attorney Generals legacy will be a dark scare on the office and the department for years. I only hope it doesn't become a turning point toward an even greater authoritarian form of government.
- Waiting2awake, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3 So instead of seeing the problem as a problem of the system(The obvious corruptions) you see it a problem of people wishing for their admin not to be corrupt?
- gthrank, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I feel so powerless against these bastards. What can people do to stop this? Has democracy died? Is America blind, deaf and dumb?
- ScrewedThePooch, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2How considerate of them to just give him the money once he vetoed the first bill.
- Ottawa, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2And the BIG QUESTION is where do these people think they are going to live after all those oil tycoons kill the planet????
we need to be living a greener lifestyle, but all they do is scoff and mess up the place while they fill their own bank accounts. shame on them, and shame on the rest of us for letting them do it.
help us here: www.livegreenlivesmart.org - Drewboy64, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The Democrats can't get things done because the Republicans will keep forever voting against anything Bush vetoes. That equals nothing getting done. You can't expect this congress to make sweeping changes when we don't have the power to do so. The Democrats will probably win the election, so why would they ruin any chances of that? Not to mention the Democrats don't have the votes to impeach our corrupt leaders, so why would they take the risk?
- ttfkam, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Ugh. And now I realize that the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, who would preside over any Senate trial of The President, is a Bush appointee. Yeah, that would be fair: put a guy in charge of your trial for whom you have endowed a lifetime post to one of the most powerful positions in government. I see no conflict of interest there. No, none at all.
- ronaldinho, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2We need a bloodless coup like Thailand did, I mean, that went smoothly didn't it? It's easy to do when the prime minister/president doesn't have the people's backing
Same here in the US, I'm surprised people don't take more immediate action to overthrow Bush and his cronies. The results might not be immediate, but the people need to make their voices heard. - voteforblank, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1They a'int cowboys... they are criminals!
- drfloyd5, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Has it occured to anyone that the Republicans are destabilizing all branches of the government, in order to use get to a point where we say "anything is better than this" and lo and behold, there will be a "something else" that was ready to go all the time?
