- blaze4metal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+38Doh! Another slip-up in the cover-up of the firings...way to go Gonzales. If you're not careful, people will find out what really happened.
- InfamousAtheist, on 10/12/2007, -4/+31These guys are proven pathological liars. I'm pretty sure I know what really happened because I'm pretty certain the administration lies about every scandal they're involved in.
Seriously, does anyone believe the President of the United States DOESN'T know what his A.G. is doing? Getting rid of all those attorneys is not something that would happen without GWB's knowledge. He knew about it, he lied again, and his subordinates keep lying to protect him.
I hate being so cynical, but the evidence continues to pile up. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27He did it, no he did it, no she did it, can you here it? This circus is about to add a fourth ring because they have too many clowns under the tent.
- itsallgeektome, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18You really have to wonder why Gonzales is trying to hold on to his position anymore. Even if he somehow clears things up to the satisfaction of Congress (doubtful), the sheer amount effort he needs to put in to combat these charges has got to be eating into his effectiveness as an attorney general. The longer he stays the more he hurts, not helps, his administration.
- obliviousfool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13They're just running out the clock basically. Gonzales should have already resigned, but confirmation hearings for a new AG would be ugly.
- maffick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Here's hoping we get some real leadership with some ethics and basic morality in office. Over the years I keep hearing people say "this *must* be the straw the breaks the camels back", yet no action is taken. I am starting to think my fellow citizens are nothing but spoiled apathetic morons.....
- ElbridgeGerry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Ladies and gentlemen, this is Chewbacca. Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk. But Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor. Now think about it; that does not make sense!
Why would a Wookiee, an eight-foot tall Wookiee, want to live on Endor, with a bunch of two-foot tall Ewoks? That does not make sense! But more important, you have to ask yourself: What does this have to do with this case? Nothing. Ladies and gentlemen, it has nothing to do with this case! It does not make sense! Look at me. I'm a lawyer defending a major record company, and I'm talkin' about Chewbacca! Does that make sense? Ladies and gentlemen, I am not making any sense! None of this makes sense! And so you have to remember, when you're in that jury room deliberatin' and conjugatin' the Emancipation Proclamation, [approaches and softens] does it make sense? No! Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, it does not make sense! If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit! The defense rests. - Innova69, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14The knot unravels as the ship is sinking. The ship of fools is going down, let there be no survivors.
- DreKor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12I don't know if this counts as a slip-up. Loyalty only goes so far and when you're supposed to take one for the team, you start having second thoughts about being a team player.
- obliviousfool, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Even if no law was broken in firing these US attorneys, the law was broken in using extreme political affiliations to hire their replacements. Aside from that, the political pressure placed on these attorneys could indicate a number of broken laws.
(You get -1 for being a stupid person.) - 10001110101, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I never thought I'd say it, but I'm beginning to miss John Ashcroft..
Oh wait.. It was just heartburn. - pongjinn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Firing US attorneys is indeed not illegal.
Firing US attorneys in order to interfere with corruption investigations IS illegal. How do you not see the difference? - pongjinn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8The reason they were fired is that they were investigating public corruption. That IS ILLEGAL.
- spurtle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8"Clinton..."
If Clinton jumped off the Empire State Building, would Bush do it too? - djpinger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8*sigh* You just don't get it.
You blindly blame "liberals" for this and the media and cover your ears and scream loudly that the world is ok.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dismissal_of_U.S._attorneys_controversy
It's not that they were fired, it's why, the circumstances, the laws surrounding it, etc. It's the lying and cover-ups...oh wait, isn't that what happened againts Clinton? Ah yes...glad to see what's good for you isn't good for anybody else. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6They were just waiting to release this information once we didn't care... It's really sad how our minds work to forget about bad things and just chalk them up as "***** happens". Anyway I'm going back to reading articles about... is it Imus now? Oh no wait Parris Hilton doesn't want to go to jail soooo cool.
- JuanNavarro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6And I can just a huge word bubble over the white house saying , "D'oh!"
- gyronic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Quit spewing this filth, its now just annoying.
Educate yourself.
Good place to start.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rWLmqWklBg - ErrorS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I'm sick of idiot conservatives (those of you who are idiots, not saying all of you are, OK?) not knowing what the ***** is going on.
Why can't you spend 15 minutes researching before you have to spew your *****? Then you complain that we have no idea what we're talking about? that's great
We know Clinton fired 93 attourneys, so did Bush at the beginning of his term. Just about every President does it, it's normal, it happens, noone cares. So stop with that *****, alright?
It comes down to:
1. The reasons for the firings.
2. The way he appointed them without congressional approval.
that's it, understand? Need more help? Ok, fine.
Noone says it's illegal but firing an attourney because they go after Republicans and Democrats? that's something a lot of people have problems with.. it shows you're a dishonest ***** and most honest people don't like that. Not to mention, they did it to take advantage of some stupid law allowing the President to bypass congress, again, this pissed a lot of people off..
When I say "a lot of people", I'm not talking about just Democrats.. I'm talking about THE ENTIRE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE. All of who voiced concern with the way the matter was handled.. these are Republicans and Democrats alike. Just do a ***** Google search for God's sake. Hardcore Republicans that would follow Bush through the gates of hell have said that this was flat out wrong, the evidense made the attourney general look like a horribly dishonest person and that he should consider resigning for it.
I doubt any of you will even read this, you're probably too busy ***** your sisters in your trailer while watching NASCAR and complaining about how 'uppity *****' are ruining your part of the woods, you redneck, ignorant pieces of worthless *****. - dshPls, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Gonzo ftl
- ichbinladen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5" If Clinton jumped off the Empire State Building, would Bush do it too? "
God I hope so! - CoolWind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Actually Gonzales can't resign in spite of the horrible PR mess, because the administration needs him to keep lying and keep forgetting, otherwise the coverup will break down. It's called stonewalling. Bush, Cheney and Rove are all guilty of numerous crimes. I hope they get impeached and sent to jail with Paris.
- durru7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6that picture is fantastic
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5my PSP has better memory than this guy.
- KeiichiMorisato, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Nice to see that if someone isn't with "you", they're obviously with the "enemy".
Extremism at work. Odd that right-wingers in this country have so much in common with the extremists in our enemies.
Ah the irony. Moderates on both sides are left wondering "what's happening with the world." - mutatron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What actions are people supposed to take? I write to my lame-assed Congress people several times a week. If they're listening, they just don't care. Of course, they're all Republicans.
- CoolWind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4No. He just forgot to forget.
- akashra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4WTF? Alberto Gonzales remembered something?
- EntropyMan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6What I found amusing (well, not quite amusing) was all the conservative digg dogs saying "But Bush has the right to fire USAs at will! Nothing Illegal! Nothing to see!"
And we just sat there and said, "Yes, indeed. The law gives him the power to fire USAs -- but only him. And that's not what makes this so wrong anyway."
And that's what we're seeing now. If it's a Presidential power, he can delegate the decision-making, but he has to sign off on the final decision, or at the very least provide a trail of written orders giving clear authority for an underling to act in his place.
Either way, he's ultimately responsible. If the firings were illegal or unethical, it's always been about the President. No fall guy can take his place. - usrlocalbin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6comon now.
Didn't really already pretty much know Bush was involved in this anyways from the get-go?
Usually when the White House makes a statement about something, we can usually assume the exact opposite of what they say is true. - Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4How long before Gonzales commits "suicide"?
- stepnw1f, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4They do know.... they lie with impunity because they can. They (neo-nutcase trolls) have been doing this for years. There is no reasoning with them, for they are focused on an end-game.
example: have you ever seen one concede in an argument when provided with fact? Has Bush ever taken responsibility for anything? You will never be able to reason with these people.... - tntntnd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6This gets more disgusting by the minute. Second grade teachers would grab the rascals in this administration by an ear and march them down to the principals office for 1/10 of the smug insincerity they and their cronies attempt to foist on the public. Perhaps a long conversation with impeachment, the presidential equivalent of the "Board of Education," would wrestle some truth out of these guys.
It doesn't take an intelligent person to understand the one-sided stakes these guys have been playing for since they stepped into office. They seemingly wrote the book on acceptable conflicts of interest. How many times do we let them get away with this schoolyard bullying of the American people and the world? - stepnw1f, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This was a neo-con Coup of our judicial system aimed at preserving a GOP majority by going solely after democrats. Those that did not cater to Bush and his facist cronies were fired mid-term. Now the truth trickles out and the many freeper trolls are here with their pathetic pudgy fingers trying to plug up all those holes. Too late.....
- jm9206755, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm sorry. Did he say "liberals"? That's the magic word.... *block*
- nukethewhales, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4ITMFA!
- THE4IRON, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This guy is a complete tool.
I can't "recall" what else. - MBostonS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Gonzales: "um, yeah, the President knew about the firings and talked to cabinet members in 2006."
Media: "So you're saying, Mr. Gonzales that Mr. Bush was really behind the firings?"
Gonzales: (S***, I probably shouldn't have said that, better go to PLAN B, it's always worked in the past)
Gonzales: "I can't recall." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4this is political strategizing at it's worst.. or best? as long as gonzo has the attention of the media, they're giving bush and the war in iraq a break. people take political strategists for morons, but they're extremely bright individuals who know how to manipulate the press and those who read/watch it.
- rjsdigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3How many lies do these people need to be caught in before something is actually done about it? You can't trust them about anything!!!!
All this "I don't recall - I don't remember"...If their memories (brains) are that unreliable, they shouldn't be entrusted to make critical decisions that affect the lives of millions.
How can the American people put up with this garbage? And how can the US media continue to ignore the obvious? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4
THE WORM HAS TURNED! - Suzilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Indeed. Parents were so worried about all the talk their children were being exposed to of sexual acts, during the Lewinsky flap. What sort of example is this administration -- which, as you'll recall, promised to bring a "new tone" to Washington -- setting for our children? To paraphrase Bush II: Is our children learning to lie with impuberty?
- Dadelus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5The Presidents response:
THIS he can remember!?!? - ichbinladen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I picture the President uttering those words in a Yiddish accent for some reason.
- Wacer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2He probably doesn't recall how to.
- Wacer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Did you even read why this is going on? READ the comments above to find out why. There is another section in law that states the President or anybody can use the Attorney Generals office for political gain.
- corypina, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Is this the same Gonzales who couldn't remember a conversation *he* had the following month?
- Suzilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@rjsdigger
