If I recall, American slavery was not a volunteer system and the only rward you got was a whipping by your master.
Edit: Correction, I thought he was going to be refering to Obama's plan to help fund college for those who serve in the Peace Corp. - neognostic, on 07/08/2008, -1/+6Goldberg is clueless, ignore the neocon. Note the last line, looks like the notes from a Junior High debate class.
From wiki - "Goldberg is a supporter of the Iraq War and has advocated for American military intervention elsewhere in the world. He has defended historical colonialism in places such as Africa as more beneficial than it is generally given credit for; in one column, he suggested that U.S. imperialism on the continent could help solve its persistent problems. [9] When he wrote in October 2006 that going in was a mistake, he called it a "noble" mistake and still maintained that liberal opponents to the war policy wanted America to fail: "In other words, their objection isn't to war per se; it's to wars that advance U.S. interests... I must confess, one of the things that made me reluctant to conclude that the Iraq war was a mistake was my distaste for the shabbiness of the arguments on the antiwar side." Rightards doing volunteer work? Like, not getting PAID?
This moron Goldberg can't even wrap his tiny little mind around it. - inactive, on 07/09/2008, -0/+3Why is anybody listening to a moronic tool like Goldberg?
- catcher6250, on 07/08/2008, -2/+5Jonah is readin too much Ayn Rand.
- punditious1, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2I for one welcome our new brownshirt youth brigade overlords.
- brjohnson789, on 07/10/2008, -0/+2You can never read too much Ayn Rand.
- aliengoods, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1I'm sure you're not going to get a lot of diggs for that comment but I'm right there with you.
Why in the hell didn't Russ Feingold run for president? - wishninja, on 07/08/2008, -1/+2he wrote a book called "Liberal Fascism" he's an idiot lets just end all debate there.
- brjohnson789, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1If you are legally required to attend high school and then required to perform a certain amount of work, that's slavery. Making college students receiving fed aid perform some work is not slavery, but is still lame.
- wishninja, on 07/08/2008, -3/+3I would say that if Obama is considering making working for the state a requirement for passing school I would generally have to say that is a bad Idea. If he is just widening the avenues to encourage poeple to be involved in the community I say that is great.
- MorganMghee, on 07/09/2008, -0/+0It's one that might connect disconnected kids to their community and their country. It may widen their world to include something beyond their living room and school yards. It's quite possible it would engender a sense of accomplishment and purpose at a time in their lives when neither is prevalent. There is a chance it could inspire our next city counsel person, mayor, governor or president.
- inactive, on 07/09/2008, -5/+2it's not slavery, it's the fluffiest piece of fluff coming from an already fuzzy candidate.
WTF kinda policy is this?
