- MisterBadIdea, on 10/06/2009, -18/+144"As hard as it is to believe, sniffing around his mother’s decades-old suicide has been something of a hobby for left-wing media lately."
I DO find it hard to believe, seeing as I consume a lot of left-wing media and a lot of anti-Glenn Beck articles, and I haven't heard jack ***** about his mother. News to me.
Speaking as a left-winger, I hate him far more than I do Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh. Rush and O'Reilly, even when they reach their stupidest, most unreasonable attacks at the left, I feel it's because they legitimately feel the left is bad for this country. Glenn Beck is just trying to get a bigger paycheck. - FlaNative, on 10/06/2009, -21/+130Didn't Glenn Beck rape and kill a girl in 1991?
- eliot2000, on 10/06/2009, -14/+108Haven't heard anyone using the death of Beck's mother as a method of disproving anything he says. The time article mentioned it, but not to grind an axe or anything, it was biographical. The only mention of his alcoholism i've ever heard was him talking about it himself. if someone was seeking to disprove what he says, the go-to approach usually involves the fact that very little of what Beck says on his show is actually true.
- novenator, on 10/06/2009, -24/+83HotAir is the perfect venue for Glenn Beck.
It is nice to see over half of his advertisers have abandoned him however. Maybe people are finally waking up to his blatant extremism and conspiratorial fear mongering. - wreckosaurus, on 10/06/2009, -12/+67Beck is a tool shed.
- aychseven, on 10/06/2009, -10/+65beck is a parent? aw jesus, someone call social services...
so let me get this right, he's spewing hatred and racism for his kids? - eliot2000, on 10/06/2009, -6/+54ok:
During the campaign, he said that FEMA camps were being constructed to house Americans, and has since admitted this was not true
Said a tenet of the Cash for Clunkers program allows the government access to your home computer.
Said Obama has an unprecedented number of czars, never mentioned that Bush had more.
Said the Obama volunteerism plan required mandatory volunteerism by teens.
On his radio show the other day, he spent time talking about how people that refused the Swine flu vaccine would be forced onto buses and taken away to undisclosed locations.
Said provisions of the stimulus would establish a civilian security force that would assume control over domestic security.
Said political director patrick gaspard worked for Acorn's Bertha Lewis, a claim refuted by politico's Ben Smith
Said John Holdren would put sterilents in the water and would require forced abortions.
That's off the top of my head- want more? Do your own research. A weatherman that was wrong as often as Beck would have been fired long ago. - Neil22, on 10/06/2009, -7/+53He's an idiot. And so are his "followers." Period.
- kkeut, on 10/06/2009, -3/+48i dont remember him ever specifically saying otherwise. hmm....
- smedrick, on 10/06/2009, -13/+57I agree, don't attack the man, attack the message....but I stopped watching after he called Fox News "the Alamo for truth". I just can't take the man seriously after that.
- DeadFox1, on 10/06/2009, -8/+51I heard it happened in 1990?
- Buuul, on 10/06/2009, -6/+48The fact that this joker has enough viewers to have his own radio show and TV program shows what kind of a state the USA is in. I feel sorry for all of the intelligent Americans that have to be associated with the crazies.
- ShingoEX, on 10/06/2009, -15/+55You can't debunk someone who won't answer simple questions...
- thefirelane, on 10/06/2009, -7/+46How about a definition of "white culture" for starters?
- bighill, on 10/06/2009, -4/+40Fox News, "The Alamo for truth". Now thats some funny sh*t.
- wafla, on 10/06/2009, -15/+50Um, who are you talking to?
- WhoBob, on 10/06/2009, -10/+44The man just spouts verbal diarrhea
- BasalCellBossk, on 10/06/2009, -3/+34I heard it was killed *then* raped.
- DeadFox1, on 10/06/2009, -5/+35oh god- you mean you took him seriously up to that point?
- BasalCellBossk, on 10/06/2009, -8/+38He has constantly been debunked. His supporters ignore any information counter to their bias, as you amply demonstrate.
Bring up any subject Beck has recently covered and there will be verifiable evidence to disprove it; there is a constant litany of fact finding articles disproving Beck's various claims. - Delphium226, on 10/06/2009, -12/+42@these3remain
From another of your comments....
"'President Stupidly does it again.'" in reference to Obama...
From your above comment...
"Instead of maligning Beck".. "It's typical of the left to mount ad-hominem attacks ..."
Ah, the old and stale stench of right-wing hypocrisy. - eclectro, on 10/06/2009, -11/+41It's sort of laughable that he gets angry for being accused of "yellow journalism," when he is, in fact, a yellow journalist. His many chalkboard sketches proves that out.
- duke, on 10/06/2009, -3/+30C'mon guys, ease off on Glenn, you're gonna' make him cry now. . . .
*wipes Vicks on his fingers before rubbing his eyes*
[sob] I'm not a journalist, I'm just a dad! [sniff]
*pounds table with fist and pouts* - SwedishSkinJer, on 10/06/2009, -6/+33Who here is able to take Beck seriously after his nonsensical "godlessness" rant? It was also amusing when he couldn't even explain his reference to "white culture" without evading the question like a fool. Furthermore, he alienated a decent portion of the conservative base by suggesting that McCain would have been worse for America, expressing a willingness to vote for Hillary Clinton if he had to, etc. He's nothing more than an opportunist who loves to frantically stir the pot. His substance is overwhelmed by his charisma.
- ShingoEX, on 10/06/2009, -10/+36Beck sits there and claims he tells the truth, but he won't even fess up and explain what he meant when he referred to "white culture".
He deserves every bit of flak he gets. - Alheithinn, on 10/06/2009, -8/+31Dispute anything and everything he has to say. He doesn't provide facts, he just plucks things out of his butt and presents them as fact.
- ShingoEX, on 10/06/2009, -3/+26It's really easy to label people and call them anti-American, when, ironically enough, your apparent decision to separate yourself from them goes against everything this *UNITED* States of America stands for.
Sit and think about that for a while, and maybe you'll eventually realize we're all in this together. - arkwald, on 10/06/2009, -7/+29Start with own *****. Glenn Beck panders to racist tools and insinuates horrible things while dancing around the definition of libel. There are two instances I can remember that confirm what I just said. First when he interviewed the only muslim member of congress and said he was an "enemy". Well maybe not if you buy that whole "I don't think so.. but some people believe so". Which of course spawned that whole why Glenn Beck rape meme. The second instance is when he came out and called Obama racist or was pursuing a racist agenda. Which is funny because I thought health care reform was supposed to apply to everyone.
Glenn Beck's facts are strung together like cheerios in a bowl of milk and they are as equally insightful. Is it unfair to call Beck a tool? Not at all, he and very apparent bias firmly place him in the role of a entertainer. The closest thing I can approximate him to is Steven Colbert, except a little crazier and without any hint of parody. In terms of information he is a sad joke. You are better off learning from a 3rd grader about the intricacies of our world then him. The only thing Beck does is prove just how willing people are to disbelieve anything that they don't want to believe.
Why this is especially insidious is that a functioning democracy requires an educated and informed electorate. Without this a government will become more and more dysfunctional. Taken to it's logical end it leads to the complete failure of government and the very likely prospect of a violent conflict. Given what the last such conflict did, you could see why some might find his rhetoric to be a bit distasteful. - ShingoEX, on 10/06/2009, -6/+28He spouts how Obama is ruining "white culture" (although he refuses to define such a term, which would obviously show he's a racist).
- Crimeodial, on 10/06/2009, -9/+30The strawman in the room.
- inactive, on 10/06/2009, -10/+31How exactly can you have a 'good track record' of reporting current events while claiming you're 'not a journalist?'
One of those things must give. - arkwald, on 10/06/2009, -5/+26If Beck represents the future of news in America I am very afraid. It will be a future where any concept of civility and being civil will mean squat. Where reason doesn't matter as long as you beat your chest loud enough you deserve to get your way.
When as a society we fail to agree to disagree we all lose. Beck is a icon of this selfish future. A quasi-feudal society where the rich are the nobles and everyone else is crushed underfoot. This has spelled the demise of every culture who has ever experienced it. Extremism serves no one in the end. - greevar, on 10/06/2009, -2/+22"Alamo for the truth." I'm glad I wasn't drinking anything when I heard him say that.
- ShingoEX, on 10/06/2009, -3/+23I don't have a problem with any culture. I'm just asking for him to clarify what he meant...and he's refusing.
Stop twisting words and trying to turn this against me. - BasalCellBossk, on 10/06/2009, -4/+24Hmmm. This might be evidence that he did it more than once.
- arkwald, on 10/06/2009, -5/+24Here let me give you a tissue.. you have a bit of Mr. Beck on your lip.
- BasalCellBossk, on 10/06/2009, -11/+30Shorter Beck: "Waah! Stop picking on me, I had a tough childhood!"
- Alheithinn, on 10/06/2009, -4/+22I want to know why he just won't prove he didn't do it? I mean, why not just prove it? He must be hiding something...
Where have we heard that line of reasoning before? - novenator, on 10/06/2009, -8/+26Sure, how about him blaming all of America's problems on the scapegoats for the conservatives of today: atheists.
- BasalCellBossk, on 10/06/2009, -1/+18Well, I wouldn't know. That's why it puzzles me that Glenn Beck doesn't weigh in on that very point.
- ShingoEX, on 10/06/2009, -2/+18Well, to be fair, it is hard to have consensual sex with a corpse...lol
- Waiting2awake, on 10/06/2009, -5/+21Discussion and disagreement isn't ripping America appart, it is the consistant labeling of everyone that doesn't agree with you as "this" or "that" - which goes equally when the neo-cons were calling everyone that disagreed with them "Anti_Americans", and "Terrorist-Sympathizers" - and it is wrong today when people call those that disagree with Obama "Racists" and "Anti-Americans".
The same trick is being used, it is just being plied on the other side of the coin. For the same purposes. If only people would stop being partisan and see it for what it is. - ShingoEX, on 10/06/2009, -6/+22I'll let you know when he's ready to somehow define it in such a way that shows he isn't a racist, but he seems reluctant to even do that...
- altgeeky1, on 10/06/2009, -5/+21eliot2000: Good post. You overlooked one of Glenn Beck's biggest:
Supposedly Obama has funnelled 500 BILLION DOLLARS to hoards of AmeriCorp, so they can act as Obama's "SS", and forcibly disarm all of America's militias:
See the Glenn Beck video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgSBumvA11M&fea ...
So here's a case of Bleck not just lying, but the lie is promising people they will be HARMED, rights stripped, and maybe they BETTER DO SOMETHING RIGHT NOW (nudge nudge wink wink).
I think what Beck's viewers fine most appealing about his show is the whole world fits into those little racist, biggoted views that the viewers heard as children at their family table during supposed holidays. Not only is the lie comforting like mashed potatoes, but he says it's OK to be closeminded - go ahead and grab this simple untruth, and to hell with elitist reality.
norman619: eliot2000 already answered your question. If you're going to defend Beck (or if you don't watch and you think we're exaggerating) YouTube is there for you. If eliot didn't post links,it's kind of understandable (hell, I only had time for ONE myself). It's as easy to find as The Google. - eclectro, on 10/06/2009, -3/+19He never did provide any evidence to the contrary...
- BasalCellBossk, on 10/06/2009, -3/+18WTF are you talking about, his claims have been utterly demolished time and time again. That you are unaware of this does not make it untrue.
One of the key reasons people mock Glenn Beck is that his statements are laughably absurd and often obviously wrong. If he wasn't such a base liar, nobody would pay attention to the fool. - teamgwho, on 10/06/2009, -5/+20In theory I have no issue with him saying "present a counter argument, or debate me on the issues rather then trying to tear me down by slinging mud and trying to dig into my past to paint me as a bad guy by bringing up unimportant information." First of all, lots of people have debunked the crap that passes for "truth" at Fox, so he's asking for us to do something that's already been done. Second, he works at Fox, where they do that all the time. They constantly make up *****, accost people in public and harrass them asking them questions that are loaded and designed to provoke specific sound byte that they can take out out of context, and generally avoid the truth at all costs.
So... clean up your own house first before criticising others Glenn. - DealCracker, on 10/06/2009, -7/+21Digg algorithm:
If ( (Title == "Glenn Beck") && (Tone == Negative) )
{
sendToFrontPage (now);
} - Jektal, on 10/06/2009, -9/+23Oh yes, attack the issues, not rumors and speculation about the person. Just like Glenn Beck has avoided spreading rumors about Obama being some sort of illegal-Muslim-terrorist-socialist. Oh wait, no. That's all Beck has done. ***** him and his alcoholic past. No wonder he raped and murdered that girl.
