- amoirae, on 06/11/2009, -51/+771Glenn Beck is ***** insane.
- ddmulholland, on 06/11/2009, -45/+608I feel like conservatives are freaking out everywhere. I understand the need to push their agenda, it's what they should do. That's how politics work after all. But I don't understand this feeling that the apocalypse is coming. For instance, guns and ammo sales are through the roof because the NRA and RNC freaked everyone out with their relentless propaganda during the 2008 election. No one is going to take their guns away! What a ridiculous notion! This sort of propaganda is perpetuated by the likes of Limbaugh and Fox News 24/7. They do this not for the purpose of political discourse... but for ratings! The more eyes/ears that watch/listen, the more they can charge advertisers! That is their main objective. They are businesses, not political parties. But to what end?
To point of inciting violence? - JoeMondo, on 06/11/2009, -54/+377Glenn Beck is just Tim McVeigh with a microphone.
- inactive, on 06/11/2009, -11/+197This is not a conservative vs. liberal issue. This is not a Republican vs. Democrat issue. This is not a right vs. left issue. This is about a sick man who did not have the necessary emotional and mental tools to deal with his world who snapped and killed innocent people. Obama didn't make it happen. Hitler didn't make it happen. Nobody made it happen except that one sole individual and his diseased mind.
Not every event is an opportunity to further an agenda. Not every tragedy is an opening to blame someone.
Beck should be ashamed of himself. - kismetropolis, on 06/11/2009, -23/+198Wow. Logic that is not of this earth.
- gigantoid, on 06/11/2009, -33/+175Why should I care or listen to what Glenn Beck has to say on any subject. He is a buffoon. A clown for the cameras.
- BlueWindKami, on 06/11/2009, -21/+142Beck is just a media whore, he'll say anything to get attention. He's also a psychopath in the sense that he obviously doesn't care about the consequences or truth of his comments. Pity that fool.
- peeweemonster, on 06/11/2009, -17/+133If you watch the Goebbels Experiment you see the young charismatic Hitler in the 1920s who heads a small party with only 12 seats in the Reichstag (out I think about 175 though I'm not sure -- Goebbels held one of the Nazi Party's seats) -- they were small, almost non-existent but they hammered the themes of betrayed nationalism and military greatness and war and the flag and motherhood and anti-communism, repeat, anti-communism was a central organizing principle -- and he is just like Beck, saying the same kinds of things -- the Right in this country would shoot its way into power if it had the opportunity (look at what they did in 2000 to get their boy Bush in) -- they love the war in Iraq and Beck wants Israel to hit Iran -- now that would not be good for the world if they did that and Bush wasn't even crazy enough to do it -- the comparison to Hitler has been omitted from the post as well as the reference to "functionally illiterate white boys" -- my guess is that Palermo went too far and took it out.
- topgigmedia, on 06/11/2009, -15/+129I have worked in the media abyss and you comments could not be any more accurate. If only there was a way to inform the audiences of these talking heads that they are mere entertainers and ratings whores.
- peeweemonster, on 06/11/2009, -9/+117Man, you're nuts -- READ about Nazism -- the "Axis" was the "Anti-Comintern Pact" they were ferociously anti-communist -- the 1939 pact was tactical just like when the USA and USSR became allies in June of 1941 -- it didn't make the United States "communist" because we were fighting alongside the USSR. We had a "pact" too. But the Nazis were RIGHTWING -- go to a dictionary and look up the word "fascism."
- inactive, on 06/11/2009, -9/+113I don't know what bothers me more; the fact that people like Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh say the kinds of crazy ***** that they do, or the fact that there are so many retarded human beings in our country that continue to give these clowns an audience.
Actually i know what really ***** bothers me; the fact that Rush Limbaugh makes 50 million dollars a year and acts like he deserves every last ***** penny of it. - PianoPianoPiano, on 06/11/2009, -11/+110I'm not entertained...I'm scared *****. His consistent hate speech is helping to make the crazies even crazier...http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/06/10/shepard-s ...
- inactive, on 06/11/2009, -15/+109New plan (same as old plan)
1) Compare other team to Nazis
2) Win.
The best part is this plan works for pretty much any team! - Echota, on 06/11/2009, -8/+100Yes I can.
- Echota, on 06/11/2009, -29/+116Glenn Beck is trying to keep the talk and finger pointing away from himself by attempting to lay blame on something else.
He knows well and good that he,Hannity,Limbaugh,Bachman and other's have been actually prodding these people on with their talk...............no they didn't tell anyone to go shoot a person but they sure as heck planted the thought in their head and nutured that thought everyday!
And lately and more frequently,Pat Buchanan has been doing the same darn thing as Beck and the rest of those talking idiots! - ddmulholland, on 06/11/2009, -17/+90Huh? Did Glenn Beck write your history book?
- Hetman, on 06/11/2009, -13/+86I know you hear glen beck repeat that over and over but that does not make it true.
- DamnMan, on 06/11/2009, -9/+72Oh the Horror! Oh the Humanity! Oh the Ratings!
- IrishJoe, on 06/11/2009, -4/+63Because of the millions who watch him and the other Fox News inciters and buy weapons and ammo to act on their propaganda.
- halleyscomet, on 06/11/2009, -9/+67"Yes we may be freaking out, but we may have good reason."
What plans does Obama have, or has he announced to restrict gun ownership? Oh, right, he made it clear that the fed has no business restricting gun ownership and left any actual restrictions in the hands of the states. In short, he takes a strong "states rights" approach, something constitutional literalists should appreciate.
But no, because he's a Democrat, paranoid nutbars are convinced he's going to round up their guns and take them all away. The closest you have to a "good reason" is the fact that he's a Democrat and as a state senator voted for a state bill to tighten gun license requirements in Illinois. You're blindly associating him with a straw man image of Democrats you built during the Regan era. You should get your head out of your lower abdomen and take a look at how the political parties have shifted in the last 20 years. If you let reality penetrate your politically obfuscated eyes you'd be shocked at just how far the Republican party has gone to betray and destroy the interests of middle class America. - peeweemonster, on 06/11/2009, -9/+66PS -- what on Earth are you talking about when you say the Left wants a fusion of corporate and state power? Do you mean the Public Broadcasting Corporation? Were you in a coma the last 8 years?
- inactive, on 06/11/2009, -4/+60I hated George Bush. If a man were to have somehow gotten into the White House and shot at people in 2006, no matter how much I disagreed with the President I still wouldn't have tried to validate some psycho's logic. It is utter ***** when you place violent and irrational actions like these in the echelon of "appropriate".
- medlakeguy, on 06/11/2009, -3/+57to be honest i don't think we can place the nazi party as being right or left wing in any way we'd understand today
- daniellatta, on 06/11/2009, -9/+58The irony behind all of this is that the assault weapons ban was a reaction to the failed assassination of Ronald Reagan.
- johnhummel, on 06/11/2009, -3/+47It seems that because of the rhetoric, that everything that conservatives feared is about to become a self fulfilling prophecy.
You've got people freaking out over non-existant gun control laws. So- they buy a bunch of guns. And freak out as if the end of the world is coming.
A DHS report comes out saying "You know, there are some pissed off people after the 2008 election, and there's worry that a "lone wolf" might go kill a bunch of people. Law enforcement should keep an eye out for anyone that's escalating threats."
Which leads to "OMG - see, they *are* coming after us! They're going to round us up and put us in prison camps!", the kind of language you see from Beck and other pretty out there conservatives. Conspiracies about - the President is really a foreigner, this doctor is a baby killer that must be stopped (though we don't say how).
Then, a bunch of "long wolfs" go out and - kill some people. Just as predicted. Which makes law enforcement have to actually take a closer look at groups that are freaking out, which they wouldn't have done if people like Beck and Hannity and Limbaugh and O'Reilly weren't stoking the fire of Fear, Rage, and Racism.
And, naturally, the latter sit back and go "We had nothing to do with it!", while keeping a solid eyes on their ratings, and saying "But - now you've *really* got to be afraid!"
I'm not sure which is worse - that these people believe it, or there are people making money off of them. - buzznjackal, on 06/11/2009, -3/+45You fail at history.
- DylanClements, on 06/11/2009, -5/+46He's not entertaining.
- pintomp3, on 06/11/2009, -13/+53If there's anyone who understood the motives of James Von Brunn, it's Glenn Beck.
- pintomp3, on 06/11/2009, -5/+43“Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power” - Benito Mussolini
- enantiodromia, on 06/11/2009, -2/+39Because when I hear someone say that "inter-racial marriage is a Jew conspiracy to destroy the Pure White Bloodline", I immediately think "wow, that guy must be a Liberal".
- snafflepaffle, on 06/11/2009, -6/+43I find it really interesting that I've just started to see this "Nazis were liberals" argument appear on the board today. And now it pops out of Glenn Beck's mouth too. I'm sure this will be a talking point for a while now regardless of how much proof there is that it's not true.
- stuffradio, on 06/11/2009, -2/+37#1 Threat to America
BEARS - Hetman, on 06/11/2009, -3/+38From Websters dictionary
Fascism- (sometimes initial capital letter) a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism.
Socialism-a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.
Which one of those definitions describes the Nazi's better? - Hetman, on 06/11/2009, -2/+36Hitler was a dictator. He had complete control over every aspect of german life. That is called fascism my friend. You may not like certian socialist idea's like public education, infastructer, the army, prison system etc. But we have been a hybrid system of socialist and capitilist programs for the last 60 years. Yet we have not had this type of speech to infuriate the populace until now.
- Street42, on 06/11/2009, -17/+50Glenn Beck was only brought on to fox in an attempt to motivate conservatives against the government. The scary part is that it's working.
But we all knew that fox would try something this inane and transparent and that the rabid followers of the network wouldn't even notice it was happening, they just think he's a great american and a good comedian, both of which couldn't be further from the truth.
So when he inevitably calls for people to rise up against fascism and corrupt government, all the sane non-fox-watchers know he's just calling for another hate-filled conservative teabagging session with the guise of responsible protest. - delrin500, on 06/11/2009, -6/+38Glen Beck supports Terrorism, except his terrorists are not Muslim.
- ApokalypseNow, on 06/11/2009, -4/+36To be fair, part of the firearms and ammunition purchasing spree was related to the so-called "assault weapons ban" talk, which is valid since that was just some really stupid legislation (the differences between an "assault weapon" and a hunting rifle are oftentimes merely cosmetic). The rest? Yeah, a lot of simple fearmongering as I understand it.
- badlogik, on 06/11/2009, -7/+38Know who else was a Fox News Pundit? Hitler.
- MelissaOfTroy, on 06/11/2009, -9/+38This is sad. A tragedy occurred: now is the time for healing, not blame and exploitation.
- inactive, on 06/11/2009, -0/+29At the beginning, our Presidents were slave owners.
- IamZed, on 06/11/2009, -10/+38Glenn Beck cares for nobody but himself, and he appeals to the most selfish of Americans to support his rhetoric. He would like to be the God of hate worshipers, but he is too dumb even for that unchallenging task.
- sdave88, on 06/11/2009, -5/+33The man used the "Know who else was a _______? Hitler." argument.
New low.
http://www.smbc-comics.com/index.php?db=comics& ...
Also: Hitler and the Nazis were famous fascists (right as it gets), the most famous some would argue. - medlakeguy, on 06/11/2009, -11/+39do conservatives like this guy? I'm sure there's some that aren't crazy.
- kemp34, on 06/11/2009, -2/+30FYI, the Nolan Chart is a much better political spectrum as it eliminates a good portion of the package deal logical fallacy that is associated with the current terms "left" and "right". All people who care about thinking and acting logically should move away from operating on logical fallacies such as the package deal. Both communist and Nazi ideologies are best described not as "left" or "right" but as AUTHORITARIAN, which is the opposite of Libertarian. The Nolan Chart still even takes into account the modern "left" and "right" and allows for a broader conception that includes them. To think a political spectrum is one dimensional is pure ignorance.

http://www.ponderthis.net/2009/05/04/21st-century- ... - chrisjj, on 06/11/2009, -16/+44I saw Jack Levin of Northeastern University on Keith Olbermann's show last night talking about extremists. Unfortunately Levin also twisted the tragic shooting to implicate those of us on the left who are working to get Israel end its occupation of the Palestinian territories. Here is a transcript of Levin's attack on the progressive left:
--
"Let me also point out that its not just the extreme right where we find this kind of anti-Semitism; there's also a new anti-Semitism that comes from the left, from progressives who blame Jews all over the world, even those who have never been to Israel, never been to the Middle East, support a Palestinian State but they still get blamed for all of Israeli policies that they don't like. So now we've got anti-Semitism coming from both sides of the political spectrum."
--
This not so subtle 'guilt-by-association" attack on those of us who are actually working with Jews to end the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian Territories is despicable. - SSPink, on 06/11/2009, -1/+28North Korea calls themselves "Democratic People's Republic of Korea", it doesn't make them democratic.
In reality there are two scales of "left vs right", economic and social. The Nazis were economically very left and socially very right. - peeweemonster, on 06/11/2009, -9/+35Yes, it is obvious in the United States the "Left" hasn't been doing anything violent since the 1960s and 1970s (aside from the Earth First! people who destroy property now and then) -- the Right has been responsible for the violence and it's scary because if you listen to Rush or Hannity of the rest they really are representative of an American variant of fascism.
- filldeviant, on 06/11/2009, -2/+28Exactly! He's right because he's using God's logic! /s
- tpmidd, on 06/11/2009, -9/+35Wait, why can't this guy just be a nutjob and neither Left or Right?
- evil-doer, on 06/11/2009, -5/+30"He then segued into a riff on how our currently tough economic times will lead some people to scapegoat Jews and that means that Israel should bomb Iran right away. Somewhere behind Beck's talking points there is real thinking going on. No one should dismiss Beck as a hack or "entertainer." He is a propagandist."
i think the author is spot on here. beck is not just an idiot making this crap up. i have no doubt there are people behind him, guiding him. -
