- kwazyhulk, on 08/19/2008, -5/+84"It's like these guys take pride in being ignorant."
- Barack Obama - NYCEST124, on 08/18/2008, -6/+82Inflating your tires will only help the terrorist agenda...
- ThomasMifflin, on 08/18/2008, -4/+62And Gingrich won Atrios' new prize, "Dumbass Of The Day" for this.
- inactive, on 08/18/2008, -2/+58That's kinda silly. You can inflate your tires for free at gas stations. This sounds like desperation to me.
- ScienceDoc, on 08/19/2008, -3/+55Once again the ultimate douche bag is back. The fat moron that gave you the "contract on America". Newt and his neocon cronies help destroy this country. He is the poster child for greedy, bigoted, hate-filled Republicans.
- kingofinternet, on 08/19/2008, -5/+55War is Peace
Freedom is Slavery
Ignorance is Strength - pintomp3, on 08/19/2008, -2/+38gingrich: the liberals want you to believe that water is wet. they are in the pockets of the towel lobby.
- rcook18, on 08/19/2008, -4/+39I'm confused -- enriching Big Oil should make Newt happy.
- cg4et, on 08/19/2008, -5/+39Wow, old Newt has actually managed to out-douche even Pat Buchanan.
- onimusha115, on 08/19/2008, -0/+33I run my tires flat, screw big oil.
- Wargalas, on 08/19/2008, -1/+31I'm a Republican and I find his point to be stupid. But then again, I bought a Honda Insight when gas prices were $1 because I didn't want my money going towards Saudi Arabia
- jimbecile, on 08/18/2008, -4/+31thanks for bringing back fatty cupcackes, republicans.
- sublime8510, on 08/19/2008, -5/+31GINGRICH: Well, I got a very funny e-mail from a retired military officer in Tampa who pointed out that most tire inflation is done at service stations and you pay for it. And it’s actually a higher profit margin than selling gasoline. So Sen. Obama was urging you to go out and enrich Big Oil by inflating your tires instead of buying gas.
So Obama's point is wrong simply because people who watch Fox news are too lazy to bend over and stick the nozzle onto the valve?
Can't argue with that logic. - ama75, on 08/19/2008, -3/+26"We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality." Clearly the Republicans still believe this to be the case.
- nobillary, on 08/19/2008, -1/+24Gee ScienceDoc, that also describes Sean Hannity to a "T"!
The worst thing about Gingrich's moronic statements is that
there are millions of people who saw that last night and they'll probably believe it. - DreKor, on 08/19/2008, -2/+20If you inflate your tires, you hate our freedom.
- sindex, on 08/19/2008, -0/+17I absolutely loathe these smug, self-congratulating, circle jerking ***** who contribute only a continuing distraction from real issues in politics just so they can see their own names in the press. They are the lowest of the low. These are two supposedly intelligent and educated men proudly standing up and essentially saying, "We will mock this thing we know to be true, just because we're Republicans and we have nothing better to do. We will automatically nay-say anything anyone other than one of our neo-con cronies says. We will blindly follow anything a neo-con says, even when we know it to be false. We will knowingly spread lies because we want to win, even at the cost of the Country; the very thing we claim to be fighting for."
***** you. ***** you. ***** you. - pathouston22, on 08/19/2008, -5/+21Inflate your tires.
Use less gas.
Use less oil.
Less demand.
More supply.
Prices go down.
People drive more.
More demand.
Less supply.
Use more oil.
Use more gas.
Prices go up.
Tires deflate.
Repeat. - inactive, on 08/19/2008, -1/+15"And it’s actually a higher profit margin than selling gasoline"
so, the profit percentage of the 75 cents for air is higher than that of the fifty bucks for gas
wow, good thing this was from a retired military officer or it would totally be utter *****
hey Newt, choke on a turd already
worthless fleshbag - Bmarofsky, on 08/19/2008, -1/+13“you can reduce your fuel costs by more than 15%. And I am talking about simple things, like proper tire pressure, avoiding rapid starts and stops, and keeping your engine tuned.”
I totally read that in my best Arnold voice, glad no one was around to hear it. - david76, on 08/19/2008, -1/+13Most service stations either provide air for free, or charge a small fee, like $0.50. Sure, the markup is huge on the energy required to power the compressor, but even if you only save one gallon over the course of a tank, you've more than made up for it, at a net loss to "Big Oil".
- dagnabbit, on 08/19/2008, -2/+14It would be hilarious if the millions of people watching Fox didn't gobble this stuff up. Then it's just frightening.
- ePuck, on 08/19/2008, -0/+11Save the air inflate your tires with oil!
- diggit83, on 08/19/2008, -2/+13The Citgo "Tom Thumb" stations here all have free air, as well as several small mom and pop stations ive seen. Either way that 50-75 cents isnt going to big oil, its paying for that machine which the service station owners bought.
Right wing ***** is all, carry on - BrewBeau, on 08/19/2008, -0/+11Uh, no. The amount of vegetation and farm land needed to feed livestock far exceeds what would be required to feed us humans. And if we all became vegetarians, then we wouldn't keep breeding the animals, right? So they'd just slaughter off the rest of the cow, chickens, etc.
You are right about the simple answers, though. I think a happy medium would be to just not eat meat at every single meal. Then we wouldn't need the high-density feed lots and cows could graze on grass again like they're supposed to. - frequentFlyer, on 08/19/2008, -0/+10Obama is actually quite correct. In fact, in some of the older communities in Oklahoma, I have found what I call a "culture of ignorance". Ignorance is held in high standing, encouraged and taught to the kids. Unbelievable that this culture has made it into our government.
- WasabiBomb, on 08/19/2008, -0/+10"Ahnold's going to pump! (clap) your tires up!"
- rthakidn, on 08/19/2008, -2/+12Cheney made him say it.
- copypastry, on 08/19/2008, -1/+10Newt's a fully inflated douche resevoir.
- PennFarmer, on 08/19/2008, -0/+9Is there a particular chain that does this? All the stations near where I live charge $0.75 for the air. Not terrible I know, but still annoying because I keep forgetting to carry the right change with me to do it.
- inactive, on 08/19/2008, -0/+9But the place where 11 of 9/11 hijackers came from is our dear, dear friend!
- Cuchanu, on 08/19/2008, -0/+9Support the troops: drive with deflated tires.
- MonsterChaOS, on 08/19/2008, -0/+9Even if they do it for you, its still the profit of the service station. How the hell does that tie back to big oil?
- reuscel, on 08/19/2008, -0/+8Awww, it's so cute how Newt Gingrich thinks people still listen to him.
- laserdog, on 08/19/2008, -2/+10How to be a politician: If your policies suck, talk about stupid *****!
- BrewBeau, on 08/19/2008, -0/+8Yeah, the neocons like to blame Clinton for NAFTA, but it was Newt who authored that. Clinton did sign it, though.
- bigred, on 08/19/2008, -0/+7Yet at the same time, a Honda Civic with flat tires will get better gas mileage than a Jeep...
- StopTheLie, on 08/19/2008, -0/+6"Seriously discussing" stories like this (created to distract and marginalize) benefits the liars / thieves / murderers who've directed our country for decades.
- davdev, on 08/19/2008, -0/+6All the gas stations around me offer free air, if you also purchase gas. Otherwise it is between 50-75 cents.
- sevvo, on 08/19/2008, -0/+6Have Click & Clack weighed in on this "debate" yet?
- yomamaphat, on 08/19/2008, -3/+9It's not April 1st.... Gingrich has the brain of a Newt.
- passive, on 08/19/2008, -1/+7Correction, properly inflated tires actually wear slower. In fact, it's nearly a universal situation that things that have greater mechanical efficiency have less wear. Because wear is a direct result of inefficiency.
For example, if my shoes had 100% efficiency in transferring my steps into forward motion, there would be no left over energy to wear the soles down. The problem is that there are inefficiencies that allow some of that energy to be expressed as damage to the shoes. - Infidelcastr0, on 08/19/2008, -1/+7They should just put that on a big banner at the rnc.
- drlha, on 08/19/2008, -0/+6Although you're right about vegetarianism being destructive to the cow as a species, you're way off when it comes to deforestation, which is far worst because we have to deforest large areas to grow the corn to feed the cows, which is far less efficient than using the land just to feed ourselves with vegetables.
- lowtolerance, on 08/19/2008, -0/+5some states actually have laws that state the service station must provide you with free air if you ask for it.
- tumbler360, on 08/19/2008, -2/+7Most service stations charge for air? Not my local one...and paying that quarter is going to make big oil richer!?
HAHAHAHAHAH, these guys are so stupid it's hilarious. Obama was dead on when he said these guys celebrate ignorance. - Cuchanu, on 08/19/2008, -1/+6America, ***** yeah!
- ePuck, on 08/19/2008, -0/+5If you don't see that we need a new type of president then you are stupid and or naive. And yes, Cheney did make him say it.
- typographics, on 08/19/2008, -0/+4I love how Obama simply gave an audience member a small piece of advice, and the Republicans somehow turned it into Obamas energy policy. The sad part? Some of these people are believing it...
