- krellor, on 06/16/2009, -1/+149Well, if it's for the children...
Seriously, I hate that argument. It is a blatant play for an emotional response that has no place at a policy makers table. - ahughes, on 06/16/2009, -12/+136Ha Ha! They said "erection"!
- Salif, on 06/16/2009, -1/+120nothing good comes from censorship
- decx, on 06/16/2009, -2/+118all 130000 people who signed the petition against this are child molesters.
including me
at least that's what some conservative politicians think
"why can anybody be against the safety of our children" - baramunchies, on 06/16/2009, -3/+118no more citicising chinas censorship at the next meeting. just exchange technology and ideas.
- hurrayforschool, on 06/16/2009, -7/+122Will there be book burning?
- svensonsan, on 06/16/2009, -4/+102welcome to china in the middle or europe
- NJRFilms, on 06/16/2009, -2/+91First they came for China's Internet, but we didn't care because we aren't Chinese. Then they came for Australia's internet. But we didn't care because we aren't Australian. Then they came for Germany's Internet. We still didn't care.
And finally. When they came for our Internet. There was no one left to care. - killerasp, on 06/16/2009, -0/+78so instead of finding the child porn, shutting the sites down and tracking down the site operators, they rather just block people from being able to get to it?
- izibi, on 06/16/2009, -2/+58ZENSURSULA: YOU SUCK!!
- borez, on 06/16/2009, -2/+55I thought amongst all the people in the world the German government would know where the censorship of individual groups can eventually lead.
- SpykerSpeed, on 06/16/2009, -5/+54Why the ***** do they think this is necessary? I hate governments. First they were supposed to protect us, but now they're taking more of our money and our rights day by day.
- EddiePotato, on 06/16/2009, -1/+47Why don't they just cut to the chase and proclaim that all crime could be eliminated by removing all freedom?
- steaner, on 06/16/2009, -14/+57This is just sick. Germany and Iran currently go hand-in-hand in terms of censorship.
- noangelcame, on 06/16/2009, -0/+41People tend to forget that governments are not our parents. When people are offended by something. instead of just dealing with it like an adult, and being a good parent to their children,. they'd rather have the government do the work for them, and that's what leads us to governments justifying censoring or banning anything.
- inactive, on 06/16/2009, -3/+42As an expat in Germany, this sucks. It's really the conservative movement screaming "for the children" again.
- GrammerPants, on 06/16/2009, -0/+38"and other harmful material" there is your problem right there. What counts as harmful material? Anything that the current government does not like or agree with?
- Hraes, on 06/16/2009, -0/+37April, 1241, when the Mongols laid siege to Vienna.
- Chooxo, on 06/16/2009, -0/+37Ever notice there's no way to argue against censoring child porn without sounding creepy?
- Jovian84, on 06/16/2009, -1/+38I knew it, germans just couldn't handle being good guys. I blame tom Cruise.
- whatthefu, on 06/16/2009, -7/+43Germany's not a police state, it's just choked by bureaucracy.
- Praystation, on 06/16/2009, -1/+37"The general idea is to build a censorship architecture enabling the government to block content containing child pornography."
Block CP? Are they going to install a supercomputer which will analyse every image uploaded onto the internets for CP? Paedos don't tag the images...they're not stupid. Besides, if you can FIND it...surely you can trace and arrest the people involved and then take down the site instead of imposing a censor.
ERROR: THIS SITE CONTAINS CP. WE KNOW IT EXISTS BUT WE'RE JUST GONNA BLOCK IT. Hurr. - moregao, on 06/16/2009, -6/+42everyone can sign it! even non germans

- OLTP, on 06/16/2009, -2/+35Ah, internet petitions. Making lazy people feel good about themselves since 1995.
- CoD4, on 06/16/2009, -4/+36You stay classy germany
- ThermiteTerrace, on 06/16/2009, -3/+34The scheisse-porn/tentaclerape Axis is back in business...
- Sheethappens, on 06/16/2009, -3/+32Dont forget Australia. We are under this threat, too. Anyway, isnt it GERMANY that is infamous for "book burning"???? This is only THIS century's equivalent!
- VisualRhetoric, on 06/16/2009, -1/+30Because that's a hard sell. By selling us small amounts of censorship in the form of "think of the children" they can achieve their ultimate goal over time.
- jaschen, on 06/16/2009, -1/+29China I understand. They have limited freedom and the internet came at the wrong time for the Chinese. Germany is a democracy for the people. So is Australia. Who voted these people into power?
- itsthemechanic, on 06/16/2009, -5/+331. use OpenDNS (www.opendns.org)
2. use TOR and run a TOR node (www.torproject.com)
3. ???
4. Profit! - BadManaJamma, on 06/16/2009, -1/+27PREPARE YOURSELVES.
With the CYBER BULLYING bills and INTERNET CYBER SECURITY bills this is the future of the internet through out the world. - appleofdischord, on 06/16/2009, -3/+29Ends do not justify the means.
- chuckDontSurf, on 06/16/2009, -0/+26You don't hate children, do you? /s
I know what you mean. It's like a trump card that no one can argue against without looking like an *****. - VisualRhetoric, on 06/16/2009, -2/+27I guess Sergeant Schultz was 40 years before his time...
"I hear nothing, I see nothing, I know nothing!" - Sergeant Schultz's catch phrase and Germany's new internet access slogan. - AmazingSteve, on 06/16/2009, -3/+281 sheep successfully conditioned. It's about control, NOT kiddie porn. that's just the tarted up whore that they're trotting out to sell it.
- Hraes, on 06/16/2009, -0/+23The Federal Bureau of Xensory?
- Ne007, on 06/16/2009, -1/+23you know....because censorship has always worked in the past and all....
- lacrimosa2008, on 06/16/2009, -0/+21URsula is the first name of the secretary responsible fo rthis law
..and the word "censorship" = zensur - vinod1978, on 06/16/2009, -0/+20Governments all around the world (US included) keep passing laws that are supposed to protect us. Those protections are simply a gateway for conservatives to censor what they think is objectionable. The truth is the internet is so vast there is no way to stop sharing of any information. Opponents of this law should stop talking about the censorship issue and start talking about money. In this economy where is the money coming from that is going to build this infrastructure? Talking about money will get more conservatives thinking that this is a bad idea then trying to convince them that censorship is wrong.
- Barackalypse, on 06/16/2009, -1/+21I'm glad the legislators were able to put aside their political differences and unite to oppress their people. Err, wait, that's not what they're supposed to set their differences aside to do.
- madeingermany, on 06/16/2009, -0/+20"The internet is a series of tubes" US Senator, ted Stevens
"Browser, what was a Browser again?" DE Federal Minister of Justice, Brigitte Zypries
Same in the US and in Germany: The people making the laws have 0 knowledge of modern technology. - Jeepinator, on 06/16/2009, -0/+19Once you let the government start to do something it usually goes overboard.
- Thorsten, on 06/16/2009, -0/+18There is no problem getting around the censorship at the moment.
The problem is that this is just the beginning.
The people doing this know, their censorship is ineffective and they will want to change the fundamentals of the internet to really censor everything they can think of - Hraes, on 06/16/2009, -2/+19@Chooxo yeah, that's intentional. The media's done an incredible job. Child porn and terrorism, the favored bogeymen of the 21st century.
