- algaeturd, on 11/11/2008, -105/+634Once again, you people are ***** retarded.
We've had a dictator running this country. YOU ***** put him into power so you should know all about it. You've helped ***** this country from the inside out...I always get the impression that you're proud of yourselves for bringing the U.S. to its knees. Go ***** off and learn about how badly you slit this country's throat, you bunch of traitors. - PuterPrsn, on 11/11/2008, -80/+439Ummmm, I thought that was what the National Guard was for??
- netneutrality, on 11/11/2008, -60/+412FIXED HEADLINE: Georgia congressman warns that he is a raving wingnut lunatic, attracts deranged followers
- Depthfunction, on 11/11/2008, -106/+453Hey, wingnuts, this isn't FreeRepublic. Leave Digg alone and go back to where you belong.
- Intercon, on 11/11/2008, -103/+427What are you talking about!? Comparing Obama to Hitler. What reality do you live in?
Please God, send a plague that kills off everyone with an IQ below 100, so I don't have to read idiotic comments like this anymore. - Intercon, on 11/11/2008, -129/+428I can't believe the complete and utter paranoid nonsense I am reading here. Especially you, doctorf1956. You are openly advocating assassination. Unbelievable.
No wonder the Secret Service has been so busy with threats against the President-Elect. I hope you people are locked up soon, to protect us all. - AlaskaLoneWolf, on 11/11/2008, -52/+329Dugg as stupidest sh** I've seen so far this week.
- Blacksoth, on 11/11/2008, -17/+279"....fears that President-elect Obama will establish a Gestapo-like security force to impose a Marxist or fascist dictatorship."
We already have this. It's called Homeland Security. - wakethefockup, on 11/11/2008, -118/+377lol. I am laughing at the paranoia and raw hatred in here. The man is a good man, and some of you just can't let go of the fact that he beat your asses. Wipe your tears, think about reality, like the dude said above, stop smoking crack, and lift yourselves out of the doldrums of hate. The whole world is happy, an entire generation has spoken, you old farts lost, and you just can't face the fact that you and your commie selves are history.
*tissues for everyone* - anselm83, on 11/11/2008, -45/+275If McCain had disowned the hard-right lunatics in his party (ie, the tards in this thread), he might've stood a fight chance on Nov. 4th.
- inactive, on 11/11/2008, -302/+522Obama:
"We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set," Obama said in July. "We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."
What balls this congressman Broun has. Obama needs to address this specifically - what were his intentions when he made this statement?
The only way that will happen is if this question is driven into the population, and the public demands and answer. Broun is doing exactly what he should be as a representative of the people. - inactive, on 11/11/2008, -33/+239http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Df2p6867_pw
The quote is taken from the speech in this video. The people who played it out of context then misrepresented its meaning are dishonest and inciteful. The IDIOTS who take their cues from Mann Coulter are just plain retarded. Good luck with that you uneducated losers. - Alphabet, on 11/11/2008, -19/+201Obama's speech concerning the quote:
"Today, AmeriCorps -- our nation's network of local, state, and national service programs -- has 75,000 slots. And I know firsthand the quality of these programs. My wife, Michelle, once left her job at a law firm and at City Hall to be a founding director of an AmeriCorps program in Chicago that trains young people for careers in public service. And these programs invest Americans in their communities and their country. They tap America's greatest resource -- our citizens.
And that's why as president, I will expand AmeriCorps to 250,000 slots and make that increased service a vehicle to meet national goals like providing health care and education, saving our planet and restoring our standing in the world, so that citizens see their efforts connected to a common purpose. People of all ages, stations, and skills will be asked to serve. Because when it comes to the challenges we face, the American people are not the problem -- they are the answer.
So we are going to send -- we're going to send more college graduates to teach and mentor our young people. We'll call on Americans to join an Energy Corps to conduct renewable energy and environmental cleanup projects in their neighborhoods all across the country. We will enlist our veterans to find jobs and support for other vets, to be there for our military families. And we're going to grow our Foreign Service, open consulates that have been shuttered, and double the size of the Peace Corps by 2011 to renew our diplomacy.
We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.
We need to use technology to connect people to service. We'll expand USA Freedom Corps to create online networks where Americans can browse opportunities to volunteer. You'll be able to search by category, time commitment, and skill sets; you'll be able to rate service opportunities, build service networks, and create your own service pages to track your hours and activities. This will empower more Americans to craft their own service agenda, and make their own change from the bottom up."
Good going republicans, you guys always take ***** out of context. - booksnmore4you, on 11/11/2008, -90/+257It's so nice to see the Lunatic Fringe Right on display at Digg. Perhaps now they will get more coverage about their true nature and views.
I hope this Congressman states these words on the floor so he can be laughed out of the chamber. - Intercon, on 11/11/2008, -54/+217Listen numbnuts, I don't trust any politician. But I'm way more concerned about Blackwater as a private army with far-right political leanings and little government oversight or the fact that the Bush administration has given Norcom permission to send the American military into the United States to police the populace than anything implied by those alleged statements by the President-Elect.
The neocons are the ones who have pushed for transitioning to martial law, not centrist democrats and certainly not Barack Obama. - atdigg, on 11/11/2008, -62/+220I should have dugg this story instead of buring it to explose right-wing idots and their hate filled posts in this thread. Any decent conservative or independent would be ashamed to be associated with such idiots.
- inactive, on 11/11/2008, -74/+220This thread has no credibility. You idiots see a conspiracy theory in every event around you.
BBBBBBBUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEDDDDDD. - inactive, on 11/11/2008, -7/+148On that same note, why the hell does something called the "National Guard" ever get deployed overseas. Ridiculous.
- samimnot, on 11/11/2008, -80/+207LMAO...
Another propaganda story submitted by the sad, little Nazi boys...
And it's always the same "extremely ignorant" posts. From the November 5 broadcast of WABC Radio's Bob Grant Show:
GRANT: I want to play a portion of Barack Obama's speech last night, which I think is the most bizarre aspect of his program. Listen to this.
OBAMA [audio clip]: We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.
GRANT: Ann, what do you make of that?
COULTER: Sounds like there's gonna be a lot more Waco raids, Elian Gonzalez snatchings. I don't know, I don't know. I mean, I think this -- I think Obama is a frightening candidate. We'll see.
—R.A.S. - nmaureen, on 11/11/2008, -31/+147How would it be a "civilian" force if it answers to the president & is funded by the gov.?
- inactive, on 11/11/2008, -25/+139Am I on digg? WTF...
- aaronfleishman, on 11/07/2009, -41/+125I take offense to this. Do you honestly believe the American people, or the rest of government, are that stupid and willing to roll over and allow a dictatorship? C'mon...we're more intelligent than that (on second thought, maybe not? we did elect YOU, Broun).
I hereby suggest any political debate from here on out refrains from mentioning Hitler, Stalin, Marx, communism...because it completely discredits your argument. - angeljimenez, on 11/11/2008, -36/+117A civil national security is common in a lot of European countries and its really useful when you need to have a group of people to help in case of an emergency or a disaster. Its by far less scary than have just a military force roaming around your country or subcontracted paramilitary teams like Blackwater. Also, there are a lot of situations were the use of military will be completely unnecesary but you still require some kind of organization and security. Military is good for defending a country or go to another country but they are trained to "fight" an "enemy", not to deal with situations were organization skills are much more important or where theres no enemy at all.
You could argue that the US already have the National Guard, but NG is also a military oriented and its state-controlled. - Awesomecat, on 11/11/2008, -12/+93I like how you left out the little detail that George Bush tweaked the law, but now it's Obama's fault. Make sure you blame Obama the next time you're late on any bills.
- thespiff, on 11/11/2008, -10/+89@IronDioPriest
I don't understand what you find threatening about that Obama quote. What exactly is wrong with empowering the people? What bad things do you think could be achieved with this program Obama describes?
Broun is not doing what he should. He is fearmongering. As a congressman, if he has concerns about Obama's policy, he should be asking Obama to clarify them. He should not be hunting down someone in the media to ramble on about theories that he admits "may sound a bit crazy and off base." He then does not give any evidence to back his conclusions or to convince the reader that his theories aren't crazy. He just states his theories and hopes that we accept them by virtue of his seat in congress. This is, quite simply, irresponsible. - sodade, on 11/11/2008, -0/+77True story: A co-worker was so concerned for the safety of the US after 9/11 that he left a lucrative tech job to join to NG. They sent him straight to Iraq.
- cheerio, on 11/11/2008, -13/+89Someone call the whaaaabulance
- THETEH, on 11/11/2008, -4/+76Hate to burst your bubble, but Obama isn't a marxist. Not even CLOSE. Marxism says that the government should run everything and create a "classless society." Obama wants to tax the wealthy a little higher and provide alternative healthcare coverage. I don't see the link to Marxism. The far right loves calling anyone with an even slightly left-of-center viewpoint a Communist, because it scares people. But it's BS.
- thepoliticalcat, on 11/11/2008, -8/+78DWalla, you have a short memory. Remember Hurricane Katrina? Blackwater was patrolling those streets by order of the Preznitwit because Louisiana's National Guard was off in Iraq getting killed and dismembered thanks to 100+ lies by that same nitwit who started two wars.
- berryclinic, on 11/11/2008, -14/+84no, the national guard (regardless of the name) is or was controlled by the states, not the federal executive.
If the president has a domestic army within our borders, bad things will come.
research posse commitatus, dictatorship, etc. - booksnmore4you, on 11/11/2008, -2/+70That's the problem with simplistic labels. They just don't apply to complex realities.
- cdefg, on 11/11/2008, -0/+63One wonders where Broun's concern for totalitarianism was when W. was aserting his right to imprison and torture American citizens without trial, or asserting that the commander in chief's actions were not bound by US law or international treaty, or asserting that he could modify laws with signing statements, or blatantly ignoring court rulings instructing him to release those wrongfully detained, or wiretapping the phones of US citizens in specific violation of the law, etc. etc. etc.
All of a sudden we're worried about totalitarianism? These Republicans are masters of projection, aren't they? - anselm83, on 11/11/2008, -27/+88"Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are!"
Ergo, Jesus was a tax collecting prostitute. Well-played, sir. - jimdig33, on 11/11/2008, -4/+61Exactly. People are just assuming that the only 'force' that civilians can have is with weapons. A lot more can be done to make our country more secure than to walk around with a gun and I think that is what Obama was referring to...funding education and diplomacy efforts as much as we do the armed forces and it may prove to be just as powerful.
Even if it was just referring to weapons...why are the same people that complain about possibly losing their machine guns also complain about him proposing (under their interpretation) that civilians get the same arms as the military? - jordanlgta, on 11/11/2008, -7/+61I voted for Bush in 2004 and I have since seen the mistake I made. I have turned my views around and I voted for Barack Obama. I live in Tennessee. Not many Obama fans here.
- 666dorado, on 11/11/2008, -9/+63so obama now is a muslim nazi marxist dictator? please.
- inactive, on 11/11/2008, -18/+71Yeah, but you ***** aren't remotely entertaining. You're boring. You're not funny. You're lame. You're paranoid.
There's the difference. - Calcularius, on 11/11/2008, -6/+58"If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator." - George W Bush
- Dumbledorito, on 11/11/2008, -8/+60It's so very odd that Republicans will raise spectres like this when a Democrat is in office, but then they go on to actually DO the very things they claim to fear (i.e. homeland security, Blackwater, NSA wiretaps). And then once they're out of power, right back with the doublethink ***** again...
- ptheroux, on 11/11/2008, -17/+64I for one welcome our new Marxist overlords.
- dext3r, on 11/11/2008, -23/+69Holy *****, you people are all stupid as hell. Obama is talking about Peace and Freedom Corps using diplomacy as an additional tool to secure our nations interests. There will be no Gestapo, ***** hell. So STUPID YOU ARE.
- avengingturnip, on 11/11/2008, -5/+51For the National Socialists, the SS was an elite fighting force. The SA was the security force that Hitler used to establish himself as a dictator.
- OtterStratton, on 11/11/2008, -6/+51Wait. Fascist OR Marxist?
Either the far, extreme right, or the far, extreme left?
...
This is a happy day for me, as I learned that I am definitively smarter than a congressman.
Granted he is from Georgia. - viserov, on 11/11/2008, -2/+46"There's a reason you separate military and the police. One fights the enemies of the state, the other serves and protects the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people." ~ William Adama
- THETEH, on 11/11/2008, -8/+52Are you serious? You seriously think Obama will be a Hitler-esque dictator? Just because you don't agree with Obama's politics doesn't mean he's gonna turn our country into a dictatorship.
- BXRWXR, on 11/11/2008, -10/+54Four more years.
Four more years of listening to you losers whine about how you lost and life's not fair and it's all a conspiracy.
Make that eight more years. - pullablank, on 11/11/2008, -4/+47This needs more diggs. Paul Broun is using the same tactics of the McCain campaign, needless fear mongering based on out of context quotes.
Doesn't he realize the only people he's reaching with these claims are those with obvious prejudices searching for any piece of fleeting evidence to confirm the pre-existing opinion they've made of Obama? - thespiff, on 11/11/2008, -22/+64Did you know that Obama and Marx both believed it's a good idea to wear pants? Yep, they have so many other things in common too. It's scary really. I hear Obama has a red toothbrush. Yeah that's right, he starts his day with a mouthful of communism.
Look, just because Communists did something doesn't make that "something" a communist activity. Explain to me how a civilian security force is communist. I mean, we don't complain about the police, what's the difference? -
