- johlorax, on 12/19/2007, -9/+30Dugg, despite the glaring omission of the most environmentally-friendly, tech-savvy candidate out there - Kucininch!
- popnwave, on 12/19/2007, -2/+5I was about to ask where he was..
- andburn1, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2And the horrible omission of vital information, the deceiving presentation, and the lack of analysis. Bury as inaccurate.
- soulpiercer7, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1Bill Richardson is way better for the environment. his energy policy is the best of any candidate. I'm surprised Al Gore isn't campaigning with him.
- victorycig, on 12/19/2007, -1/+5I skimmed the article, but wasn't able to find what a checkmark means in their table. That the candidate represents a "geek's perspective?" Or is it just that the candidate has a proposal for that particular issue?
- johnnick, on 12/19/2007, -1/+4(b)
- floyd427, on 12/19/2007, -0/+3Click on the candidate to see their stance for each column.
It isn't all on one page. - vinny, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3Click on the check mark to see comments on that particular issue for that candidate.
- latrosicarius, on 12/20/2007, -1/+5The table is incomplete... for instance, Ron Paul certainly DOES have a stance on Science/Education.
- andburn1, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3The check mark is deceiving. It should be a check for generally support and an x for generally oppose. Paul's trickey on this one, because he'll almost always defer to the states. For instance, Paul doesn't support environmental laws, he supports the states' right to enact environmental laws.
- WilliamDavis, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1As far as I can tell, a check just means they said something about something.
- sion2119, on 12/19/2007, -4/+19yeah, whats up with that PM?!?! no Kucinich?
- Apokalyps2547, on 12/19/2007, -2/+20No Dodd either?!
(Dodd being the hero of the FISA filibuster) - THEROC, on 12/19/2007, -3/+39combine 30% photos with 30% advertisement, 20% incompetence and 20% propaganda and you get popular mechanics.
- rz8472, on 12/19/2007, -2/+2I remember that Popular Science sometimes has a conservative slant; read several articles extolling the virtues of space-based weaponry and dumping all our nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain...
- andburn1, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1Well, in all fairness, this article makes no point, it's a pure compilation. And not a good one. So... buried.
- ZenMojo, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1Considering Michael Chertoff's nephew is an editor on the magazine, is anybody really surprised?
- rz8472, on 12/19/2007, -2/+2I remember that Popular Science sometimes has a conservative slant; read several articles extolling the virtues of space-based weaponry and dumping all our nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain...
- socialpyramid, on 12/19/2007, -0/+4I think people should give more thought to how candidates weigh in on science and tech.
- AaronSaund, on 12/19/2007, -3/+9Lame.
- Schul983, on 12/19/2007, -0/+2Popular Mechanics has some articles that fringe lunacy, but they do offer some good home improvement tips.
- Tilon, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3Corporate. Owned.
Take with grain of salt.
- Tilon, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3Corporate. Owned.
- Ymeg, on 12/19/2007, -1/+0Poor space.
- entrophize, on 12/19/2007, -14/+0What a pathetic group of nerdy virgins.
Put down the 10-sided dice and go outside. - king0mob, on 12/19/2007, -5/+14Buried for lack of Kucinich.
- R0am3r, on 12/19/2007, -2/+14How does Gun Control fit into a Science and Technology Election Guide? Maybe the candidates have a plan for better ballistics in our lives?
- lordmetroid, on 12/20/2007, -0/+6Increased funds for railgun research...
- ZenMojo, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3Caseless ammunition and microwave ray guns for everybody?
- revenge7, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2PEW PEW LASER GUNZ
- andburn1, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1And if it does, how could they ignore gay and abortion rights?
- Shaggy63, on 12/19/2007, -6/+11OMFG, Read Clinton's She will bankrupt the nation.
- fknc, on 12/19/2007, -3/+3I guess our only choice right now is to go bankrupt through taxation and social programs, or through mounting debt..
- rhodydog, on 12/20/2007, -0/+4Just like Bush you mean?
- andburn1, on 12/20/2007, -2/+2OMFG read Paul's, he'll destroy all the protections we've wrangled out of the Federal government over the last century. (Civil rights, Medicare, minimum wage, affirmative action, school integration.) Actually, I admit, none of that is covered in this story... whatever. I can't resist an opportunity to elucidate Paul's real agenda.
- schnikies79, on 12/19/2007, -6/+5Strict allegiance to the constitution is the #1 issue. Everything else comes 2nd.
- ZenMojo, on 12/20/2007, -1/+4Of course, Ron Paul's a doctor, not a lawyer, so he only know three of the Constitution's Amendments....
- andburn1, on 12/20/2007, -1/+1And, of course, his interpretation of those three Amendments is outdated and unsophisticated.
- soulpiercer7, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1lol at Ron Paul's energy policy.
Bill Richardson 2008!- WilliamDavis, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1True, true. All of those other people are energy experts, as evidenced by their long careers in talking ***** to the public.
- ZenMojo, on 12/20/2007, -1/+4Of course, Ron Paul's a doctor, not a lawyer, so he only know three of the Constitution's Amendments....
- emeraldik, on 12/19/2007, -2/+3Obama looks best out of the major candidates. Now why is Gun Control on there...
- andburn1, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2And why does Paul have a CHECK under it? At a glance, you'd think that means he supports it. This chart blows.
- soulpiercer7, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1Bill Richardson looks like the best candidate. did you read it?
- andburn1, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1He said major candidates. Bill Richardson doesn't have a chance.
- PRlME, on 12/19/2007, -1/+5Um before we vote for a pres that wants to do things for the tech industry we should be voting on a pres that will fix the country first
- soulpiercer7, on 12/20/2007, -1/+1they are one in the same.
- andburn1, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1Hahahaha, that's the most ridiculous statement I've ever heard. Welfare of tech industry = welfare of Nation? I think not.
- soulpiercer7, on 12/20/2007, -1/+1they are one in the same.
- spyd3rweb, on 12/19/2007, -5/+9Popuplar Mechanics = Hearst Publishing = Neocon trash rag.
- Emray, on 12/19/2007, -1/+2This isn't that great of a chart; it seems as though they just looked at their web sites and didn't do much research. For example, Richardson has the highest rating from the NRA on gun control, yet on this chart he isn't given a check mark, while John Edwards did get a check mark...? I don't know this just seems kind of useless.
- soulpiercer7, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2the check mark is whether or not they have information on it.
- earthforce1, on 12/19/2007, -0/+2No support/repeal the DMCA column?
Seriously, a lot of fast moving geeks were recently able to stop the Canadian equivalent of the DMCA and had the bill blown out of the sky before it was even introduced. Why isn't DMCA rollback being made a US election issue? - MikeFallopian, on 12/19/2007, -0/+2I was trying to figure why all the digg hatred towards Popular Mechanics. Then I remembered they were the ones who so memorably debunked all the 9/11 controlled demolishion nonsense.
- jcani, on 12/20/2007, -3/+2I don't understand why Ron Paul is such an online sensation yet only has 3 columns checked with information. Can someone explain this?
*boggle*- DAaaMan64, on 12/20/2007, -1/+2Because all you have to do is read and realize that these are just check marks next to candidates that have proposed solutions to the situations across the top.
If we have learned anything we should realize that each candidate may have an exceptional explanation for their reasoning on each issue. - DaSuHouSe, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3Because this is a chart on how the candidates plan on spending money rather than cutting back on it.
- andburn1, on 12/20/2007, -1/+1You don't have to spend any money to abolish civil liberties and protections.
- WilliamDavis, on 12/20/2007, -1/+1You're right. They haven't needed to spend money to do that over the last many years, but they've spent plenty of money as well.
- andburn1, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1And Ron Paul will do it for you cheap! The most destruction for your buck - vote Ron Paul 2008!
- WilliamDavis, on 12/20/2007, -1/+1You're right. They haven't needed to spend money to do that over the last many years, but they've spent plenty of money as well.
- andburn1, on 12/20/2007, -1/+1You don't have to spend any money to abolish civil liberties and protections.
- andburn1, on 12/20/2007, -2/+1Because, while they are trying to cater to the geek niche, but aren't part of it. Thus, they've actually gotten an amount of exposure to Ron Paul that is actually reflective of his popular support. In short, he's not on their radar because he's not really worth considering. They have failed entirely at catering to the crowd they aimed at, though. No idea why this is front paged... it's incomplete and misleading.
- DAaaMan64, on 12/20/2007, -1/+2Because all you have to do is read and realize that these are just check marks next to candidates that have proposed solutions to the situations across the top.
- Malig, on 12/20/2007, -1/+4Fail chart is full of FAIL.
- omnirusa, on 12/20/2007, -2/+3Wow, there is 1 issue that I agree with Clinton on... Space.
I still would rather have the devil as president over her, but either way. - DrPaul2008, on 12/20/2007, -1/+5This is a matter of opinion. If you ask someone who understands economics, and the free market, they would tell you that free market is the best environment for technological, and scientific, advancement. Ron Paul's lack of interest in funding any pet project boondoggle doesn't mean that all industries wouldn't flourish the most under his administration.
Just remember, we've had electric cars since the 1800s, and flying cars for quite a while. In a free market, we might actually be able to purchase one of them.- andburn1, on 12/20/2007, -2/+2Well, the checks don't mean that he supports it, and the dots don't mean he opposes it. All the checks mean are that the editors found something quotable from the candidate on the issue. It's ***** journalism.
On another note, Paul's so called "liberty" would promote corporate tyranny and super-wealthy elites, and would destroy the progress made on equality and protection for minorities and the poor.
- andburn1, on 12/20/2007, -2/+2Well, the checks don't mean that he supports it, and the dots don't mean he opposes it. All the checks mean are that the editors found something quotable from the candidate on the issue. It's ***** journalism.
- Kerath, on 12/20/2007, -3/+8Ron Paul: " "In a free market, no one is allowed to pollute his neighbor's land, air, or water."
So essentially, all manufacturing is illegal. That sounds good.- saranagati, on 12/20/2007, -2/+6or they could find ways of manufacturing without polluting their neighbors.
- ZenMojo, on 12/20/2007, -2/+5Through what, legislation? Ron Paul's against taxing companies for their externalities imposed upon communities. (If people are starting to catch the typical political doublespeak yet, congratulations.)
- FreeStater, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3You're an idiot.
- ZenMojo, on 12/20/2007, -2/+5Through what, legislation? Ron Paul's against taxing companies for their externalities imposed upon communities. (If people are starting to catch the typical political doublespeak yet, congratulations.)
- TheDHC, on 12/20/2007, -1/+2what a terrible strawman argument
- andburn1, on 12/20/2007, -6/+1It's the only response to the bafflingly misleading rhetoric of Ron Paul. He doesn't give a ***** about the environment, but can always play it like he does by saying that communities should legislate on it.
- saranagati, on 12/20/2007, -2/+6or they could find ways of manufacturing without polluting their neighbors.
- pintomp3, on 12/20/2007, -1/+7guns are a technology category but not net neutrality? ron paul is against net neutrality. i'm surprised he doesn't get more backing from the telcos.
- phil2490, on 12/20/2007, -3/+5The telcos get millions of dollars in tax breaks, incentives, and pork. Ron Paul would end that cash flow. I'm pretty sure the telcos are against him.
- ZenMojo, on 12/20/2007, -1/+5How? He's against preventing companies from consolidating and interfering with my internet access, but he's for removing economic support so that makes him the good guy? Let me translate:
Ron Paul: No more handouts from the government!
TELCO: Can we tell people what they can access on the internet and make deals with websites for funds so they get faster access?
Ron Paul: Go for it!
How the hell is this a good thing? - andburn1, on 12/20/2007, -2/+4He'd also stop taxing the rich telco execs on their estates and gifts. Just because Paul's "get rid of all Federal laws not explicitly provided for in the Constitution" policy would get rid of a lot of bad laws doesn't mean that it would do any good. It would destroy more necessary laws and protections than unnecessary and unjust laws.

- SideShowMel0329, on 12/20/2007, -4/+3Obama preaching aid for minorities, I thought he's "moved past race"?
- andburn1, on 12/20/2007, -4/+1Where in this story does it say that? And please, how could a black man not? He'd be a traitor if he didn't. That aid is necessary to try and balance the staggering disadvantages minorities have in the United States.
- thebellmaster1x, on 12/20/2007, -1/+3I don't understand how this thing works. Hillary supports space? Huh? What does the checkmark represent?
And, FFS, how can you have an article on technological issues and NOT have net neutrality? Good Lord, Popular Mechanics.- andburn1, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2It doesn't mean anything beyond "we found something to quote on this issue." The dots only mean that they didn't find anything, not that it doesn't exist. It doesn't indicate support or opposition.
- gmtwilight, on 12/20/2007, -1/+2I thought everyone on the internet was voting for Ron Paul.. did I get the wrong memo?
- ZenMojo, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2You've obviously not been paying attention to your regularly scheduled quota of infotainment from the MSM.
- andburn1, on 12/20/2007, -2/+1Shhh, it's ok, it's ok, Digg can have that effect on people. Took me a while to escape that mentality too. :P
- CaptainHarlock, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2Don't they know that "geeks" become bitchy when it comes to accuracy? List ALL candidates running. I don't care how insignificant they may be. What about parties other than Democrats and Republicans?
- andburn1, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1And, list ALL the issues, do more extensive research, and indicate support or opposition in the chart. FAIL.
- rmeddy, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1Republican looking a little sparse there.
- soulpiercer7, on 12/20/2007, -1/+1BILL RICHARDSON 2008!
all troops out by 2009 (all other dems won't pull out till 2013)
best energy policy of ALL candidates
former ambassador to the U.N.
former senator
current governor of New Mexico (every president since 1989 has been a governor first. probably something to do with actual leadership experience)
former secretary of energy.
why you would vote for anyone else is beyond me, especially another democrat (you can only vote for one or the other) - lolo2007, on 02/21/2008, -0/+0No support/repeal the DMCA column?
