GOP voter suppression in Virginia
dailykos.com — As Dems work to get out the vote, GOP embarks on criminal campaign to keep opposing voters home. "This message is for Timothy Daly. This is the Virginia Elections Commission. We've determined you are registered in New York to vote. Therefore, you will not be allowed to cast your vote on Tuesday. If you do show up, you will be charged criminally."

Oh, right, GOP supporters would NEVER engage in such tactics. Outrageous, isn't it? - RuffRidr, on 10/12/2007, -44/+14dirtyhipster is on to something. Why would they wait to release this news? Maybe because it is unsubstantiated. Release it on election day so no one has time to check the sources. Both sides of the fence are ***** all over this election.
- Aaryn015, on 10/12/2007, -7/+43What? Like releasing the news of Saddam's sentence 4 days early so it doesn't miss the election?
One word:
Paleeeeeeze - deesnutz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20Someone is going to get it on this one.
Because there is proof without a doubt that this took place. First, it was the Democrats who recorded a bunch of calls. Then the election office did their own investigation and recorded a bunch of calls. And they just forwarded it to the FBI. So unless, the FBI is totally incompetent (which I hope that they are not), some "macaca" hater is going to be someones prison bitch. And won't it be nice if (Grand Klan Master) George Allen be the one going to jail.

Oh wait, they have. And this isn't fear mongering. Employees of ACORN are being federally indicted for deliberately misregistering people in the 2004 Presidential election. The company is still going strong; who knows if it's going on now?
http://www.epionline.org/study_detail.cfm?sid=78 - scooterMX, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I'm not sure, if it is, I'm sure that the folks at eBay will let me know.
What I am sure of though is how possible it seems that at its most elemental level, this is actually what is happening.
The initiative process has resulted in laws being written that are so complex that they are Destined for the courts. Then both sides can declare the win, pull people from the middle and polarize them, and the issues.
I think that the reform should be: Write the law in three sentences max.
Something like: Prop 900 - Vote yes and we will build a train service between Willits and San Francisco. It will cost 1 billion dollars, which we'll borrow through a bond, and repay in 20 years.
Let people figure out for themselves all of the rhetoric. Whether its good or bad, right or wrong... We have one ballot initiative that is over 80 pages long. I know lawyers that don't understand it (but are eager to fight it out in court).
This system feeds lawyers, and their families. It does nothing for the rest of us... - DavidTrom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@ DirtyHipster
When do you suppose was a good time to release the Foley scandal??
Perhaps when the GOP leadership was notified of it? a year ago.
Those Nasty Democrats exposing pedophiles at the "wrong" time
When do you suppose is a good time to bring up shenanigans with the MidTerm election?
A year from now?
Democrats actually tried that -waiting after the elections- to bring up the irregularities, in 2000 and 2004
Hasn't work too good, so far.
When you wait after the election and ask for a recount the call you obstructionist , and if you let them declare a winner and challenged the results them, well, they tell you to "get over it, don't be a sore looser"
When do you suppose is a good time to call on the cheating of the other side?

When one talks about "a source" in the American lexicon (political or not) one is referring to one with verifiable first hand knowledge of an incident. If you want to argue that it's "a source" from a purely semantic point of view, I'll give it to you, provided we agree that the source in this case is not legitimate. - felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15@musicmantrs -
The link at the bottom of his post IS what I was talking about when I said there was no source cited.

I find it odd, that voting is controlled in each state, BY each state, not by the GOP. Yet, for the last few weeks, I've been reading nothing but how the GOP is responsible for corrupting the voting infrastructure in all these different states. Does anyone really think the GOP has more or farther reaching powers than the Dems?
I am neither Dem nor Rep, so this is not a "neocon" or shill, just an honest question of the logic of some of these ridiculous claims. I think most are just FUD to motivate Dem voters who might not otherwise vote, which is odd if you consider the "moral outrage" professed by most lib diggers. - NICU, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5This article is about lies that are being spread by republicans to try to trick and intimidate voters not to vote today. The lack of action by Republican Congressman Frank Wolf (VA-10) this election is very surprising. I've been working for the Judy Feder for Congress campaign for the past few days and we've been going crazy with all the work were doing to get the vote out.- cramtod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Arlington, Virginia election and voter registration FAQ:
"If, however, you are registering to vote by mail for the first time in Virginia, federal law requires you to include a copy of your ID with your application. If you fail to do so, your record will be flagged so the election officers know to ask to see your ID the first time you vote in a federal election. The reason for flagging your record is because the federal ID requirements are slightly different than those for all other Virginia voters. Voters subject to showing ID the first time they vote in federal elections cannot sign an affirmation of identity in lieu of showing ID. They will, however, be able to vote a provisional ballot."

- djAnakin, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4I see no problem here. It's always been against the law to vote in a different state than you are currently registered. That's why we have absentee balots.
- tekmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Read the link. The man has been registered to vote in VA since 1998 and has voted in all the elections since without any problems.

How about a documentary on Youtube covering it???

Just a bunch of puppets - Chemiee, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2why does it matter what side you vote for at all?
all that happens is one side or another gets into office on a bunch of promises etc and once their in, they rarely do anything but put all their effort into staying in office. - carolinaws, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Oh, man. I know Tim! This is too funny.
Tim moved to Arlington from New York about 4 years ago. So funny I see this on Digg!- p0s3r, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1"Daly has been registered to vote in Virginia since 1998". If he moved from NY about 4 years ago, why was he registered to vote in VA since 1998?
- carolinaws, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4My bad. Correction -- I have known him 4 years.
- Herkimer56, on 10/12/2007, -11/+5When I read stuff like the comments made by the Leftists on this page I sometimes think that they actually want to lose this election. If they lose then they can continue to piss and moan for the next two years about how unfair it all was and how the Republicans stole another election. Pissing and moaning is about all that they're good for anymore so it's kind of like job security for them. And they know that if they win the people that voted for them are going to expect results and the Leftist/Socialist/Democrat group is just not capable of providing any kind of results. So now they have all of their excuses in place, voter suppression and vote fraud, because they really expect to lose and they want to be ready. It's a loser mindset and it's really quite pathetic.
- neolarthytep, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3AMEN BROTHER PREACH ON!
I really wouldn't mind to see Webb in office that way we can get more great tales about Vietnamese father's putting there c0ck$ in their sons mouths. I think Dems really get a hard on for that stuff
- neolarthytep, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3AMEN BROTHER PREACH ON!
- p0s3r, on 10/12/2007, -8/+33.) Fliers in Buckingham County Say "SKIP THIS ELECTION" (paid for by the RNC) have caused many in the African American community to call the Board of Elections to see if the election is still on. LOL. Grasping at straws... grasping at straws... - caution, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3If irregularities, voting machines, robo-callers, and other tin-foil hat conspiracies are to blame this early, the Democrats are going to lose?
If they somehow emerge victorious tonight, they will have to answer for either bad voting practices giving them the election -- or they are pre-emptive liars.
These guys are funny.
Either way, it's a choice between apples and apples to me. Neither party has a strategic vision for the US. They just want job-security and more funding. - slntnsnty, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1

- mstemle, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6Wow. The propaganda from partisan politicians is astounding. Somebody really should just lock up all of the liars posting this nonsense... including ones posting false reports online (e.g. dailykos).

Here's to another 2+ years with the Republicans stealing our rights and spending all our money on pork! - neolarthytep, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Yea Fox News the evil republican media machine. God Krakn3Dfx please think up something new and original. They are much better then CNN aka the communist news network
- an0nymous, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I do think it's interesting that the fox news article on this
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,227823,00.html
does not mention the party affiliations when offenses are against democrats, but clearly spells out the affiliation of Republican complainants. It's pretty egregious. - an0nymous, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Why the Digg down? Is there a disputation into the facts of my post above? Or do you just not like being presented with unflattering information?
- Krakn3Dfx, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4e.g. redstate.com AND foxnews.com, lies for the ignorant masses.
- LastVisibleDog, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7Democrats are already making up excuses for why they did not win big in this election.
- Krakn3Dfx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4That's always the easy answer for lazy, ignorant republicans. Give me a break, even if the DEMs win big, there's still obviously huge problems with our current election system. Stop sitting on your ass watching football and stand up occasionally for your rights before they're all gone.
- HarryBauzonia, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6Can't you at least wait until the election is over to make up fraud stories?
- Herkimer56, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6It's a kind of preemptive whining. They just want to be ready.
- e68895f, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3can't you at least call the cops only after the robbery is over....
- AegisC, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I thought that the Dems had everything locked up. As I saw on MSNBC a few days ago, "it's not a question of IF the dems will win, but by how much." As evil as it is, some cheating in Virginia shouldn't stop such a landslide.... since (so I hear) voters in this election simply no longer stand for the antics of the GOP.
- GoodBrain, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Republicans pull this sort of ***** because they know that they can get away with it. Someone might do a little time, but they'll be richly rewarded when they get out because they helped the rest of the party stay in power and out of jail.
They are going to keep pulling this sort of ***** because they know that if they loose power, payback is going to be a bitch. We need something like RICOH for election crimes. The financial hits to the organizations that work on this has to be crippling, and the personal hit on the people caught doing this has to look like 40-50 years of hard time.- neolarthytep, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3You make my head hurt. My virgin ears cannot take all the curse words in your post. Your just upset and angry because if the republicans win you and your lover won't be able to get married here in good ole VA
- shmatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2that's a pretty ***** good reason to be upset if you're gay.
- twinklyJesus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Speaking from experience, Shmatt?
- shmatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yeah, *****. I tried to be civil with you above for my mistake, but forget it.
Yeah, I have the experince of having a few friends who are gay, and ALSO I live in the DC-VA area. So I do know a few things about this. - twinklyJesus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1That's funny, you try to discredit me by claiming to have had some conversation with me, and cite a phony instance where I commented. You still maintain we've discussed matters before, but you are mistaken. Just like you are mistaken about most other things you think.
Imagine, all that, and I didn't have to resort to the typical insults and name-calling you use to counter an argument. Reflection of character, I suppose. - shmatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2you didn't?!? way to frame the argument! at least you're not a total idiot, but you are still full of it, arguing to win instead of to learn something.
You attempted to insult me be implying that I'm gay. you didn't call me a name, but you still meant to insult me (you failed)... I didn't 'cite' anything, originally I referred to you as someone else by mistake (someone else with 'jesus' in their ID), and said I was sorry, but you choose to use that as ammo to win an argument.. how mature!
So the high road doesn't work with you, and you won't admit that you at least occasionally travel the low one (emphasis on 'at least'). So there's no getting throught ot you... how typically red. Sorry but you have no more credibility than I.
But this is stupid and I'm wasting space. Sorry Powercow et al, I try to not get engaged like this, but dirty GOP politicians and their shills get my goat, and it's election day, and I live in DC.
- PostJunkieCom, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Which is worse..this or buying an election in Florida?
- GoodBrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why buy what you can steal?
- neolarthytep, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4You have to love all the protesters here in VA. They're all going nuts about how they won't be able to get abortions, Gays won't be able to get married, and how we will never get out of Iraq. God bless the stupid. Personally I just don't want the Dems to get in control because I personally don't want the govt to spend my tax dollars on investigations of the "evil republicans". My money is much better spent blowing up those terrorist pieces of dung in the Middle East.
- an0nymous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Honestly, the only protestors I see regularly here in Richmond are those anti-choice twinks over on Boulevard. Every Saturday, regular as rain.
- shmatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3you are very ignorant. Your beloved good ol boys have DOUBLED our national debt in 6 years. I hope you can explain that your grandchildren honestly.
- scbalazs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2neolarthytep,
So you don't think public funds should be spent investigating a president and his administration lying to congress and the public about WMD in Iraq which is costing American lives, but it's OK for Republicans to waste the time and public funds investigating a president who lies about oral sex with an intern? No American soldiers died from that lie. - neolarthytep, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Obviously you didn't see the protest when Allen had bush at the science museum. As for the second guy, I believe the debt has come from the war... I'd like to see who thinks the Dems wouldn't spend a boat load of money in office. That's what they are the best at is raising our taxes and spending ridiculous amounts of money. I'm sure all the "investigations" that they promise they will have done once in office won't cost the American public one red cent. As far as the last comment on Bill Clinton... The man STRAIGHT UP LIED TO THE ENTIRE COUNTRY, NOT TO MENTION HE IS MARRIED TO A BULL DOG FACED WOMAN WHOM HE WAS CHEATING ON WHEN THE OVAL OFFICE BJ TOOK PLACE. He did nothing good for this country, hell the dipsh!t had Bin laden and could of killed the S.O.B. right then and there but didn't. His retaliation for the U.S.S. Cole was firing some missiles into Iraq, whom i might add we are at war with right now. So they were evil when we fired the missiles but helpless innocents now? COME ON! So as soon as he left office our economy started to fall, and that was Bush's fault right? Might I add that our economy is at an all time HIGH right now, and unemployment is shrinking and lower then any point in Clinton's run. but let me guess all this is because Clinton set up the ground work for our economical boom right now. NO, actually it was our GOP congress who did that. So when (according to the dems) the republicans get ousted from congress tomorrow they are going to make things better. HOW... please tell me are they going to make things better? Our economy is at an all time high... employment lowest in decades... haven't been attacked since 9/11... (pause) Let me guess your come back is corruption in our govt. Please god tell me when there was a time that our congress did not have corrupted people in it. Hell Mark Foley got ousted for explicit IM's with a page, but a Democrat HAD SEX with a page and all he got was a slap on the wrist then Good old Nancy decided that the same guy should get a promotion to head of a Congressional committee. Now please lets see you Libs response and I guarantee I can beat it.
- bigjimslade, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5
Pure tripe. We'll hear wild accusations (especially if Democrats fail to gain as many seats as the polls/media say they will) about supposed violations and voter supression, but no factual evidence. Democrats, on the other hand, have been caught red-handed cheating on elections.
Thankfully for the DNC, there's a Democrat District Attorney in Milwaukee, otherwise the guys who admitted to slashing ALL tires on RNC rented vans during the 2004 presedential election would have been more harshly prosecuted. Oh yeah - one of those guys was the son of Representive Gwenydyl Moore, D, Milwaukee. The other? The son of former Milwaukee mayor Marvin Pratt. Evidence? Here you are....

Democrats are desperate beyond belief. This is nothing but more DailyKOS propaganda to try and enrage the base for more votes.
The best part is going to be the looks on the faces of the liberal media as they realize another election has slipped right through their dirty fingers.

Propaganda of the worst caliber. I'm surprised anyone who can type buys this *****.- shmatt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2An audio recording isn't convincing enough for you? I suppose NPR is propaganda too since you don't agree with them either? yeah, NPR... not in the LEAST biased and I'm being serious. They CAN"T be biased since congress controls their funding.
I for one am grateful when an org has the balls to profess their leanings. Can't say that about Mr. Murdoch can you?
- shmatt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2An audio recording isn't convincing enough for you? I suppose NPR is propaganda too since you don't agree with them either? yeah, NPR... not in the LEAST biased and I'm being serious. They CAN"T be biased since congress controls their funding.
- twinklyJesus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3The GOP doesn't control elections. They can't rig elections anymore than Democrats or Libertarians could. The individual state's control their own elections, the equipment used, etc. (save for the requirement to be electronic, made by Congress)
This is FUD- GoodBrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, because Republicans don't hold offices at a state level.
- caution, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Honestly guys! How dare anyone be warned of voting outside their district!
