- polterbyte, on 10/12/2007, -10/+49And should we consider it to be untrue just because it is election day?
Oh, right, GOP supporters would NEVER engage in such tactics. Outrageous, isn't it? - Aaryn015, on 10/12/2007, -7/+43What? Like releasing the news of Saddam's sentence 4 days early so it doesn't miss the election?
One word:
Paleeeeeeze - felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -7/+42Right. They made this story up - as well as the recording of the robocall, which they managed to plant on Jim Webb's website.
Just because the Daily Kos has a bias doesn't mean they can't run accurate stories. It just means they pick the stories they are interested in. - earvolution, on 10/12/2007, -9/+37nasty stuff
- garoo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+35Wow and America is trying to export democracy through out the world. Yikes
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -9/+34See, now that's an example of an unverifiable statement. No sources listed, no links, no photos, nothing.
If it were actually happening, I'd say get in there and stop it right away - and prosecute anyone involved.
If it were actually happening. - uptown, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23And Diddy's message of "Vote or Die" had convinced me to go to the voting booths ... now we get arrested if we DO vote?
- tpodr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Ok, how about an FBI investigation? Would that convince you the allegations should be taken seriously?
Link to a video clip of David Schuster reporting on the FBI investigation

The link at the bottom of his post IS what I was talking about when I said there was no source cited.
If you follow the link, you find the same paragraph, with no source listed, no links to other news items about this, nothing. In the comments section, there is one person who's put a link to Philly.com ( http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/news/politics/15950582.htm ), but all it says is "Voter Turnout Strong, No Glitches" and the story is about how smoothly election day is going there.
This guy doesn't even say WHERE he heard that there was voter intimidation. He just makes a claim and leaves it at that. Given the massive lack of credibility that Republicans have these days, he's going to need to do better. - deesnutz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20Someone is going to get it on this one.
Because there is proof without a doubt that this took place. First, it was the Democrats who recorded a bunch of calls. Then the election office did their own investigation and recorded a bunch of calls. And they just forwarded it to the FBI. So unless, the FBI is totally incompetent (which I hope that they are not), some "macaca" hater is going to be someones prison bitch. And won't it be nice if (Grand Klan Master) George Allen be the one going to jail.
Had Enough?

I've just seen "HBO's Special Hacking Democracy" http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7236791207107726851 Now this... I pity you USA citizens for living in a dictatorship allowing elections such as an election is in China.
- badnewsblair, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20Sadly a valid and good point.
- dmorel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13@musicmantrs: "That link at the bottom of his post isn't a source? Is it just decoration."
When one talks about "a source" in the American lexicon (political or not) one is referring to one with verifiable first hand knowledge of an incident. If you want to argue that it's "a source" from a purely semantic point of view, I'll give it to you, provided we agree that the source in this case is not legitimate. - laterthandawn, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18I guess we'll just have to wait for Fox to confirm it for you.
I wonder how long that'll take...hmmm... - dmorel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15flink are you going to cut and paste that comment into every thread you participate in today?
Can't we just all stipulate ahead of time that you're going to cite that absurd (albeit really pretty funny... that stuff about the white out is a hoot) post in all of these threads and save everyone the effort of having to digg you down each time you do it? - mbrane, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14Ahhh Democracy ... the best form of government that money can buy.....
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9nougat -
Thanks for the link, and for being fair about calling it "hardly substantial."
If anyone is tampering with the elections, I want to see them prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Democrat or Republican. Just as long as they get them all. And I say that as a Democrat myself. - musicmantrs, on 10/12/2007, -16/+25That link at the bottom of his post isn't a source? Is it just decoration. Heres what you just did, its common on both sides of the aisle.
"Democrats did something bad"
/covers ears and slams eyes shut "Blah blah blah blah blah they wouldnt do that".
Now, unsubstantiated report that Republicans did something wrong
"This is absolute fact, even though it is only on one uncorroborated left wing source"
Both sides cheat, don't try to deny it.
Digg down the truth! - wmmt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I'm a Virginia voter and can vouch for at least one claim made in the story. Webb's name was indeed cut off, but not on the ballot -- only on the confirmation screen. There were fliers posted on each booth explaining the error. So it wasn't a huge deal, although it certainly makes one wonder.
- miketrin, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Kind of like Fox news huh smalltowngirl?
- jsmith39, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@scooter
Isn't that illegal? - mtvkilledusall, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14WTF is going on in this country?!?
- dmorel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9@Joeysum "If you're going to post a story, at least use a credible source, and not a self-proclaimed left-wing blog. If you couldn't find this story on any actual news site, and just on dailykos, I strongly question its accuracy."
How about CNN and MSNBC? I know lots of people like to think of them as "liberal" but they are certainly a bit more substantial than a "left-wing blog."
Here's a little cut and paste from MSNBC:
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is looking into the possibility of voter intimidation in the hard-fought U.S. Senate race between Sen. George Allen, a Republican, and Democratic challenger James Webb, officials told NBC News
more here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15603344/ - rebrad, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I will be so glad when the paid political operatives that put out this tripe collect their last paycheck and crawl back under the rock they oozed out of. This isn't news it bad propaganda.
- DavidTrom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@ DirtyHipster
When do you suppose was a good time to release the Foley scandal??
Perhaps when the GOP leadership was notified of it? a year ago.
Those Nasty Democrats exposing pedophiles at the "wrong" time
When do you suppose is a good time to bring up shenanigans with the MidTerm election?
A year from now?
Democrats actually tried that -waiting after the elections- to bring up the irregularities, in 2000 and 2004
Hasn't work too good, so far.
When you wait after the election and ask for a recount the call you obstructionist , and if you let them declare a winner and challenged the results them, well, they tell you to "get over it, don't be a sore looser"
When do you suppose is a good time to call on the cheating of the other side?
please reply - tekmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Read the link. The man has been registered to vote in VA since 1998 and has voted in all the elections since without any problems.

"The VA board of elections tells ABC news the FBI is investigating claims of voter intimidation surrounding its senate race"

"If, however, you are registering to vote by mail for the first time in Virginia, federal law requires you to include a copy of your ID with your application. If you fail to do so, your record will be flagged so the election officers know to ask to see your ID the first time you vote in a federal election. The reason for flagging your record is because the federal ID requirements are slightly different than those for all other Virginia voters. Voters subject to showing ID the first time they vote in federal elections cannot sign an affirmation of identity in lieu of showing ID. They will, however, be able to vote a provisional ballot." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7ya, I'm thinking about listing my vote on eBay. See what its ACTUALLY worth these days... Bet I don't get a dollar for it.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280046543207 - Corvidae, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I resent that actually. BushCo is trying to export democracy. We're just the poor bastards doing all the work. If we were actually exporting democracy, we'd charge for it instead of paying out the nose.

- Aaryn015, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8That's the gayest ***** I ever heard
- bunnzofun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Apparently the FBI is investigating and some folks have made sworn statements ...

- JesperL, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6and a thumb. Don't forget thumbs. Thumbs may not be fingers, but they deserve the same amount of attention as fingers. Sure, they're stockier and fatter, but so is Mario! We all love Mario, so why not love thumbs?
Thumbs are nice. :] - xenuxenuts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If all of our elected officials were hung, they might have to expand the page program.
- neolarthytep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This issue was addressed 2 to 3 weeks ago, and they said they didn't have enough time to correct the error. Webb was on WRVA 1140AM and said that they had known about this issue but it was only in a few voter districts, I believe they were Falls Church and Arlington both of which are in Northern Virginia.
- shmatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hi twinklyjesus.
I do apologize. I thougt you were somebody with a similar name, and they pissed me off the other day. i should have checked. so again, sorry... - an0nymous, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4well, thanks for stopping by.
- NICU, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5This article is about lies that are being spread by republicans to try to trick and intimidate voters not to vote today. This isn't just about the calling its about the messages which are basic lies. The GOP knows they're much less popular this election than they have been in a long time and they're using very dirty tactics to try to win.
- bacon_skoda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Selling your vote IS illegal. (this happend on ebay a few years ago, feel free to test it again)
Buying a vote is also illegal.
Promising tax breaks to get votes is legal. - ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It's true, my mom lives in Virginia and the local news has been covering this for over a week.
- tekmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I just voted in VA less than an hour ago. For some reason, my name was flagged, even though this was the first time I've ever been eligible to vote and was born and have lived in VA my entire life. Several other people were in the same situation and it caused a lot of trouble at the polling station.
The lack of action by Republican Congressman Frank Wolf (VA-10) this election is very surprising. I've been working for the Judy Feder for Congress campaign for the past few days and we've been going crazy with all the work were doing to get the vote out. - shmatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4stinkyjesus.
seen you here before, you were ranting about atheists a couple days ago. you are as red as they come. don't try to act unbiased when you are part of the Christian conservative right. we all know you want the GOP to win.
to answer your strawman argument posing as a question: yes, republicans DO have more far-reaching power in any state where there's a majorioty of GOP senators, reps, and governors, not to mention state reps.
what the ***** to y'all need anyway, it's a recording! - UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11Grow up to what? Turning a blind eye to crumbling Democracy?
- aristotle1990, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Big, bad voter "suppression." Shoot. I'm really glad nobody's ever knowingly and falsely registered me as a Democrat.
Oh wait, they have. And this isn't fear mongering. Employees of ACORN are being federally indicted for deliberately misregistering people in the 2004 Presidential election. The company is still going strong; who knows if it's going on now?

I voted for Stewie. - an0nymous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,227823,00.html%22
According to fox it seems to be Republicans only who are affected. Nice. - laterthandawn, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8And so it begins.
I posted this as a separate topic yesterday, and the thought has been freaking me out:
The myth of the American Moron? Why GOP smugness worries me. A lot.
-- Republican wet dream: we wake up on Wednesday with the GOP still in control, and every American thinking "Oh, goddammit...we were outnumbered by the idiots out there...somewhere in stupid middle America." So wait, who the hell are the idiots voting for Bush and Co anyway? And is the GOP just making excuses ahead of time for a stolen election? - Krakn3Dfx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4That's always the easy answer for lazy, ignorant republicans. Give me a break, even if the DEMs win big, there's still obviously huge problems with our current election system. Stop sitting on your ass watching football and stand up occasionally for your rights before they're all gone.
