GOP senator: No prison for detainees; they're not criminals

cnn.com — When asked why the country could not handle detainees accused of terrorist activity -- when many of the prisons on U.S. soil house violent murders and rapists -- Sen Jim Inhofe (R-OK) said, "because those individuals were actually criminals."

    "They actually committed crimes and were not involved in the type of terrorist activity as we've been experiencing in Iraq and Afghanistan," he said.

    But others convicted of terrorism-related activities -- including shoe-bomber Richard Reid, blind sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman and Oklahoma City bombing mastermind Timothy McVeigh -- were all housed in U.S. prisons."

  • sugarazor, on 05/20/2009, -0/+9If I had my choice of being in prison with a bunch of terror suspects or the kind of guys that populate a maximum security prison, I'm living with the terrorists. Sorry, those guys have nothing on good ol' fashion American criminals.
