- Stonedonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26Every week seems to find America with a new and embarrassing political revelation. And it always seems to involve something either Bush or one of his fellow Republicans is doing. But venting and bickering at each other is counter-productive.
Instead, get out there and vote next month, people. Regardless of your affiliation, make your citizenship count beyond the IRS's bottom line. If the current balance continues past November, then perhaps we have the government we deserve. - Sunwalker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26Republican Leaders need to resign if they allowed Foley to continue to serve after they knew about this.
- snockhockster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25This story is getting more and more disgusting.
From having a sexual predator in Congress, to having a KNOWN sexual predator in Congress and allowed to operate with the consent of the leadership.
I don't know what is worse. Having a sexual predator in Congress, or having the leadership condone it by inaction.
There is no "if" they knew about it. They have already admitted to know about it and doing nothing.
The real story is how long did they turn a blind eye to his transgressions. - unloud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23Shut the hell up mrfoos......He said "IF" they allowed foley to continue, and noone said ***** about terrorists, so please stop being rediculous.
- steinbeckgirl, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20linux- You are missing the point, Bill Clinton didn't try to do young underage boys.
- Tebixan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Clinton had an affair with a 25 year old, not a 16 year old...
Not saying it way okay, but it wasn't illegal. - Mudanie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Not looking good.....and I'm a Republican. I'm even going to DIGG this since it's from a CREDIBLE source.
I truely would be ashamed of my party if this ***** is for real. People who did any wrong or turned a blind eye must be brought to justice. - jayboogie, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19@mrfoos......Nice redirect you for got to put Clinton in your comment too.
- jayboogie, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16@unloud - it was a sarcasm - douche - loosen up
- steinbeckgirl, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14The Republicans problem is that they are all trying to save their own ass. Lord forbid they do the right thing, especially since they are the party of morals and values. Not saying that Dems are, but we don't claim to be God's chosen group either. The Republican's just keep slitting their own throats. As the Bible say's "Action speak louder than words."...or maybe that was my mother who said that...?
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Just go back to see how many times Foley voted the Party line since the incidents started; that is why the GOP leadership did nothing until they had to.
- grzelakc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Actually, you're wrong. Banging a 16 year old might be legal in some US states but grooming anyone UNDER 18 ANYWHERE IN THE US via internet chatrooms is a crime. The law against internet predators was co-drafted by Rep. Foley himself. Life doesn't get more ironic than that.
Anyway, FBI already launched the investigation and if the contents of the IM logs are verified no doubt that Foley is going to serve time for this. - steinbeckgirl, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10@stonedonkey- nicely put
- FlaG8r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I just heard Bay Buchanan shred the Republican leadership on this on one of the news channels. They had her on against a Dem. strategist and she was harsher on them than he was.
- Tebixan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Willingly resigning because a senator knew he did something wrong is vastly different that forcefully detaining and/or torturing someone. Trying to compare the two only shows how desperate republicans are getting to justify their wrongdoings.
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9"Give me a freaking break. OBVIOUSLY the democrats knew about this too. Why else did it come out at such a perfect moment, weeks before the election? "
What's worse, Democrats sitting on this information until the election or GOP leaders hiding it in the first place? - totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Mudanie, the point is that if it turns out the GOP leadership knew about Foley's indiscretions last year and did nothing about it, its because they believed getting his votes on issues was more important than investigating his behavior (which would result in him having to resign, which, he did). Get it? The longer they put off investigating him publicly, the longer he stays in Congress, and votes the party line.
- InsaneHomer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7This mofo was a member of the House of Representatives caucus on missing and exploited children!!!
Jesus Christ!!! - UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7It sure is sad to see people cite immoral or illegal acts by Democrats as a response to this story. You might as well just defend Foley .. you will look like a douchebag either way.
- goat77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6And that's why they're congressmen, Mudanie.
- snockhockster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7@Mrfoos
Try reading the transcripts and explain to me what the hell "liberals" have to do with this. I never knew being a child predator was acceptable as long as you were a conservative child predator... that's at least how many of those who are coming to Foley's are making it sound.
http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/BrianRoss/story?id=2509586&page=1 - UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Great insight, I knew Clinton had to do with this story somehow.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Why would a single congressman ask a 16 year old boy to send pictures of himself? How the hell can that be construed as innocent? That's straight up sick!
- Mudanie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I get it....you're not understanding what I'm saying (which may be my fault).
You are correct (if this turns out to be true), all I am saying is you can't tell that simply by looking at the votes. The investigation will show what happened and hopefully why.
EDIT: It was referred to A. Gonzalez by Haster, so it is getting investigated and surely will be closely watched by the public. - UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@laughsatmoobats
What are you trying to say, that because one Democrat got away with it we should give a Republican a pass? If that's not it, what's your point other than throwing mud in an effort to deflect attention? - steinbeckgirl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5mudanie- out of all the people on digg I usually disagree with, I don't dislike you as much as I do the others. Um...did that make sense?
- snockhockster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@mrsfoos
Yes, I'm sure most all Republicans want to forget this ever happened... much like how they dealt with the situation.
Speaking of both sides... interesting response from the Republican party in regards to the Democrats calling for an investigation. The Republicans try to block it and then boo the fact that the Democrats ask for a recorded vote.
Of course, throwing your lot in with a child predator and having it on record simply to adhere to party lines is quite damning... no matter what party you belong to.
http://movies.crooksandliars.com/foleyres.wmv - vietvet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The leadership of the Republican Party have today proposed to legalize pedophilia under some circumstances to be determined by the President, and to provide blanket amnesty to all members of the legislature, effective January 20, 2001. President Bush remarked "It's important to provide clarity, to the professionals, in order to continue to carry out the program."
- pen25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"laughsatmoobats 31 minutes ago
But having one in the White House is okay, I guess?
The page was of legal age, which is 16 in DC. That makes Foley a garden-variety scumbag, not a "predator".
At least Foley had the class to resign, unlike Clinton. "
you forgot something. this was done over wire which makes it federal in which case 18 is the legal age of consent. he was in florida and the kid was in the midwest somewhere. either way what he did was illegal. if it was me who was caught id be in jail awaiting trial - VolatileWhimsy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If any of you think the Republicans knew than you can bet the Dems knew and did nothing...
But regardless who knew they all should be charged appropriately because it is a crime to know it is happening and not report it to the authorities.. And the guy needs to go to prison... - UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4What planet are you from?
- VitoC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@Canthros
well you can hardly walk around accusing fellow party members of being a pedophile without hard proof - VolatileWhimsy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3A man cheating on his wife is an ass..
A man attempting to be sexually active with someone that is underage is not ok. It is a crime and well simply he should be fertilizer.. I just want to see them prosecute him.. :/
I blame both parties... Cause you know if one knew the other did as well.. :/ - Mudanie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Hehe, I usually don't turn nasty if the story isn't from an obvious partisian site....that and people aren't making extreme statements. I tend to be more civil and objective when the flow of comments sets the stage.
- Canthros, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4If you read the story, the entire warning (as reported) suggests little more than he might be a harmless but creepy guy who likes kids (innocently). It doesn't really suggest that the staff knew about anything other than his public behavior.
- snockhockster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5@mrsfoos
Laying blame on the entire Republican party eh?
Do you not recognize the leadership bears some responsibility for allowing a child predator to remain in office after being alerted to his transgressions?
They condoned his transgressions by inaction. No rhetoric, such as "liberal wingbats", can change that.
I think what you meant to say was, "911 911 911 911 Terrorist Terrorist 911 Safer 911" - Canthros, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@firebush: I'm not talking about what Foley has done, just the so-called warning in the article. Obviously, the guy *is* a creep. I'm just pointing out that the warning is not indicative of the sort of knowledge that is being assumed here, or that's being assumed in the article. It's like hearing, "Well, he kinda quiet and mostly kept to himself," and shouting, "ZOMG HE WAS A HOMICIDAL MANIAC WHY DID WE NOT SEE THIS?" Because, of course, there are plenty of completely harmless reasons that a Congressman might be overly nice to a page, or that a person might be quiet and keep to himself. It might be weird and creepy, but it isn't necessarily an indication of anything untoward.
- snockhockster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Brit Hume, is that you?
- sathias, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hell yeah they should watch out for Foley... that Mandible Claw finsher is a killer
- VolatileWhimsy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Who gives a *****.. They also thought leaches would help in the 1800s...
I'll explain it this way. Anyone and I mean anyone who condones this or attempts to make it seem acceptable throws suspicion onto themselves.. Cause at this moment you sound like a pedo to me... And well, should die and be fertilizer, cause well pedos are not able to be rehabilitated... So no use trying... - Mudanie, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I know, just stating that looking at party line votes won't tell you anything.
- PopcornDave, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Yeah, something in the story doesn't make a lot of sense here.
Quote:Matthew Loraditch, a page in the 2001-2002 class, told ABC News he and other pages were warned about Foley by a supervisor.
Loraditch, the president of the Page Alumni Association, said the pages were told "don't get too wrapped up in him being too nice to you and all that kind of stuff."
End quote
To me, that is nothing more than telling people to not read too much in to a congressman being nice to you. These people are basically lackeys.
Nowhere in the article did I see anybody warning pages of sexual predators. The story says continued, but there isn't anything to continue to.
Now if someone specifically came out and said, "Watch out for X,Y and Z because they have a habit of being too friendly" then that's a different story. And if someone sees that story, Digg it immediately! - Canthros, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@VitoC: I'd hope you wouldn't accuse *anyone* of being a pedophile without reasonable evidence. It's a hell of a charge, after all, and saying it for the hell of it would amount to slander and character assassination.
In any case, the evidence exists and Foley's a creep and a pervert; what I've been arguing is that the warning from the linked article isn't really substantive. It's like saying, "Okay, this guy's a bit weird, but don't take it seriously." Maybe there's some context that's not being communicated, but the article, as written, does not convey anything half as damning as is being portrayed here. - supdegrave, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@mrfoos & VolatileWhimsy:
Your assertions that the Dems must have also known about Foley's transgressions are rebutted in the WaPo article:
[quote]
Republicans appeared to have kept the matter under wraps. Rep. Dale E. Kildee (Mich.), the only Democrat on the House Page Board, said yesterday: "I was never informed of the allegations about Mr. Foley's inappropriate communications with a House page, and I was never involved in any inquiry into this matter."
[endquote]
Of course, this doesn't mean that no Dems knew, but it does seem a little less obvious than you two seem to believe. - ichbinladen, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4It's really gross that Republicans get their kicks from molesting young boys.
- Mudanie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Snock, quit being naive.
If you watch the video, people started booing before Pelosi said anything about a recorded vote. They were booing at her for doing what she does best, acting for the cameras.
You do realize Haster is the one who forwarded the issue to Alberto Gonzalez right?
Quit using hack sites to prove your points....if you want to make a point it's best to use a non partisian source, otherwise there's sure to be BS in it. - Mudanie, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5That doesn't make sense. If you go through and look at who voted with who and on what issues....it's always like that with both parties.
- VolatileWhimsy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1???
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Like I said above:
OBVIOUSLY the democrats knew about this too. Why else did it come out at such a perfect moment, weeks before the election?
Now if you want to throw BOTH sides out and start all over... I'm with you. ;) - Mudanie, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2What a retarded comment.
