I shudder to think what may happen if this nasty piece of work gets to have any say in the affairs of this country.
- thatwasawkward, on 09/03/2008, -31/+70McCain and the whole Republican brand are toast.
- 4earth, on 09/03/2008, -13/+44As a former Alaskan, I have been watching the media circus surrounding the GOP's VP choice with a bit of disbelief. Sarah Palin's private life is immaterial to the race, and the more the press and the bloggers dish on it, the more we are distracted from the real problems with this candidate, much to the glee of the GOP, I am sure. It almost makes me wonder if the GOP is setting us up with all these baby stories just to keep us from looking more deeply into the candidate's background, because while we are all talking about babies we are not talking about the Alaska Independence Party.
What is and should be fully discussed in the press and is NOT being discussed is Sarah Palin's political life. I am very much concerned with her and her husband's involvement in the secessionist movement in Alaska. Joe Volgler, it's founder and a man whom Palin has praised in the past, would be on Bush's terrorist watch list if he were alive today. This was a very dangerous man and his organization is still very much in place, quite militant, and filled with "survivalist cult" types. And yet, just last year Gov. Palin was the keynote speaker at one of their "conventions". Her husband has been registered in the movement for many years.
Sarah Palin, along with the other three candidates, is about to be briefed by the CIA on top secret security matters. Am I the only one who is alarmed by this? - Lspook63, on 09/03/2008, -15/+46"There is a special investigation underway into Palin's decision to fire the state Public Safety Commissioner; her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant; her husband has been active in an Alaska secession movement and she has attended meetings of the secessionist organization; Palin helped run a '527' third party political group of the kind McCain has adamantly criticized in the past; and she has come under fire for spending little time with her newborn Downs Syndrome child."
Nice summary. Then you also have the whole "I'm just as qualified to be VP as she is" bit. - EatingPie, on 09/03/2008, -8/+33How old are you exactly? :-)
Reagan famous speech where he called "tear down this wall," and the subsequent fall of communism was pretty exciting. The whole world pretty much got behind that one.
-Pie - smacksaw, on 09/03/2008, -13/+37I think they planned it from the start. If she got the boost from Hillary's supporters, they would keep her. If not, she would withdraw.
But even if she made it to the White House, I think she would still withdraw to "be with her family" and someone really far worse would take her place next to McCain.
No matter what, I think there's 50-50 odds that she withdraws due to family issues. And Republicans will support it 100% since it's about family. And McCain gets a do-over. With the way media scrutiny has been, he'll get a free pass. The media has been incredibly soft on McCain and harsh on Obama. All of the AM shows will praise McCain and Palin for putting family first, not for being a quitter. If it were Obama, it would be nothing but jabs about scandal and irresponsibility. In fact, I think the reason Obama is going soft on her is that he doesn't want to be blamed for making her quit, something he knows is likely/inevitable.
I don't know if this is a Rove tactic or out of his playbook, but it's pure genius. The true believers will never question it and the people who would are not going to vote McCain anyway. It's such a win-win in so many ways. Plus, they keep Obama off of the news and McCain in the headlines. There's no such thing as bad press... - KegBol, on 09/03/2008, -0/+21No such thing as bad press? I would say that in a presidential election there actually is such a thing. Quite definitely.
- mywhitenoise, on 09/03/2008, -7/+27Hell yeah I am, no way in ***** hell am I going through another 4 years of Bush/Cheney politics.
- ninjadave, on 09/03/2008, -4/+24She's a fundamentalist christian, pro-life, feminist.
She's got 5 kids. I think 'pulling out' isn't something she does often or at all. - inactive, on 09/03/2008, -2/+21I think what is really getting ridiculous about this campaign is the focus on gender, race, and the craziest issues (such as Palin's daughter getting pregnant.) Meanwhile there is a war, major economic issues, foreclosure crisis, health care problems, etc. I think I would rather hear more about these issues that smearing commercials and propaganda about what McCain or Obama did in college at 2am with a stripper. I think the media is ridiculous and needs to report real *****, not just bias reporting based upon who the network is owned by. It is about time for some networks to report both sides neutrally so people can make a real decision.
- seleniumdream, on 09/03/2008, -4/+20You are under the mistaken impression that the liberals are nervous or scared. Most I know smell blood... there's a huge hole in McCain's armor and this is their opportunity to attack. Palin's the best gift the Republicans could give the Democrats.
- EatingPie, on 09/03/2008, -18/+32Let's say the Republicans do replace Palin. Do we really think that person will NOT be attacked and derided as heavily by Think Progress, The Daily Kos, the Huffington Post and Digg at large?
All that will happen is that we'll have to endure ANOTHER week of hundreds of submissions on why McCain's new VP choice sucks.
-Pie - scythe33, on 09/03/2008, -3/+16I don't like Palin, but really, is this even news? Of course the GOP isn't going to say whether she'll be kicked off the ticket before they decide, and it's unlikely that she will. The whole country isn't on Digg, after all, even though she's being smeared to hell here the many Americans who get their news from other places don't see this as being all that likely.
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -12/+25The GOP is also keeping quiet on it's plan to eradicate the homeless by rounding them up and killing them. Of course there's corroborating evidence to show this to be true, and none of the party leaders will admit to it, but that just shows you how good they are at keeping their intentions hidden.
Now run with it Huff Po.... - SethEllis, on 09/03/2008, -15/+26Very clever Huffington Post, but I can see right through you.
There never has been and there never will be any chance that Palin will be taken off the ticket. The Huffington Post simply wants us to believe this in an attempt to cast doubt on Palin's eligability. The liberal press doesn't have to prove anything. All of these scandals (ie troopergate) could come out completely in Palin's favor, but if the liberals can just cast any doubt they have what they want. They think they can spread misinformation and get away with it.
Not how carefully they engineer the attack. The spin is completely contradictory to reality. There was never any question that Palin would withdraw, but the Huffington Post story pretends that they don't believe it. They act completely ignorant to reality. They only reason the article was posted in the first place was because they saw it as another opportunity to spread the false hope that Palin might leave.
Once again Palin's not leaving, she was never going to leave, and she never will leave. Nobody in the campaign has even thought about Palin leaving. Any half-intelligent political observer that ever thought it was a possibility is either stupid, or making stuff up to push their political agenda. - deleo, on 09/03/2008, -1/+12No, there are many people alarmed by this. The group that her husband belongs to is not all that different than the state militias (remember back to the days of the Oklahoma City bombing, and you will remember who these people were). We are seeing Sarah as a hockey mom who drives a truck and shops at Walmart. It's a great pitch that I pray will not work. We can only hope that the swing voters in states like Ohio, PA, and Michigan can see through this. They will paint Sarah out to be just like them, but she and her husband are extremists and they are getting awfully close to the White House.
Where is the mainstream press on this? Stop talking about Bristol's pregnancy and get to the real issues on Sarah. Why are you not talking about the independent political party they belonged to (The RNC says she never did, they are covering it up!) or that Sarah is on video saying that the war in Iraq is God's plan? We could be in really deep trouble here if Sarah sneaks into the White House. 1/3 of all Vice Presidents and end up becoming President! - ebolaworld, on 09/03/2008, -1/+11I think it's pretty normal for people to ask questions about an unknown politician that could be our next VP (or god-forbid President). I've been told over and over by the media that we need to know every last detail about Obama and that even his wife isn't off limits, so why should anyone have a problem with us looking into Palin.
- Konrad9, on 09/03/2008, -1/+10If she can't even run her family how can she run a country?
- wunksta, on 09/03/2008, -3/+12"stay the course heh heh"
- jknevitt, on 09/03/2008, -2/+11No.
- seleniumdream, on 09/03/2008, -2/+11You're totally off. This is like when sharks smell blood in the water. They don't want her gone, they're having a field day with her.
- WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -5/+14Well, at a guess, you can say goodbye to a couple of basic liberties, the separation of church and state, and alternative energy research. Also, opponents will be summarily fed to polar bears.
- drowningfish, on 09/03/2008, -1/+10If she is bumped, for whatever reason, McCain's judgment will be beheaded and brought to the masses on a bloody plate. I am sure Digg will be one of the first online communities to lick that plate clean.
She will not be bumped nor will she resign. Let's just hope people decided this election on issues and not "celebrity" from either side of this circus. - piper999, on 09/03/2008, -0/+9You're right. The story is actually about how nobody thinks Palin will be dropped but they have spun it to make it somehow sound like the opposite.
- Chairboy, on 09/03/2008, -7/+15Pistol packing? I support the 2nd Amendment.
Moose killing? Hunting puts food on the tables of many. What's wrong with that?
Bible thumping? Well, don't care for that.
Mama? Motherhood is great, and leads to rich life experience great for leadership.
Soooo... Why all the digs? Was it all for bible thumping or some other perceived weakness? Or are all of the listed "pejoratives" equally terrible? - fromaworld, on 09/03/2008, -7/+15There we go... I was starting to miss the front page being filled with anti-Palin Huffington Post stories....
All this Palin mudslinging is simply FUD. Nothing will come of it, but the Democrats want to make people doubt her nonetheless.
BTW, the so called "troopergate" investigation... Palin is the one who called for the investigation.
The idea that McCain will pull her off her ticket is ridiculous. Doing so would mean CERTAIN defeat for the Republicans. - rodrigo74, on 09/03/2008, -1/+8I am terrified because McCain still have a good chance of winning this election, and is the oldest nominee in history, plus have a long cancer history. This means that we might end up with a huge chance of having Palin as president. She might be an OK person and a good governor, but she is _way_ out of her league to deal with the likes of Putin and Chavez, and to get the US out of recession.
You like most republicans seem more interested on winning this election than thinking about the next 4 years. Are you confident that Palin would be able to handle the infamous "3AM call"? - dromeditor, on 09/03/2008, -8/+15seriously? stop signing your posts.
- KSUdesigner, on 09/03/2008, -2/+9100,000+ troops fighting in Afghanistan is better than 150,000+ currently fighting in Iraq plus another 40,000 in Afghanistan. Why are you people so against having troops in Afghanistan? You realize that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 don't you? The terrorists responsible for 9/11 are hiding out in Afghanistan, should we just forget about them and let it happen all over again?
As for your other points, McCain has voted with Bush 90+% of the time, I don't know how you think any of that will change under a McCain administration. - hermizzle, on 09/03/2008, -0/+7All of these articles based on speculation and rumor are doing John McCain's job. People who are on the fence are going to vote Republican because all the Democrats are acting like little babies and are pumping out a million articles of slander a day on a woman who has done nothing wrong yet still draws the ire of lefties just because she is Republican (something I though we might be past). Keep up the good work Huffington Post! You'll get John McCain into office yet!
- sockpuppets, on 09/03/2008, -3/+10I don't know what a democrate is but it sounds delicious.
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -2/+8This just gets better and better. Liberals are exposing themselves as the misogynists, bigots and elitists they are and always have been. Everything I've said about liberals for decades is coming out into the open. What a bunch of crybabies. Obama had a chance to select a woman as his running mate -- a woman who got as many or more votes than he did in the primaries. But, he chose the safe route and chose his fellow MALE, political hack. Now, you are all wetting your pants. Get over it.
- jasonspurlock, on 09/03/2008, -14/+20Check out this video of Joe Leiberman endorsing Obama in '06, saying, "Obama is from God" and "we are blessed to have Obama in the United States!"

Please digg. - piratearggghhh, on 09/03/2008, -9/+15Don't we know by now? The GOP never admits a mistake and when you point it out - they only commit to it more.
- yojiffyskippy, on 09/03/2008, -2/+8So HuffingtonCompost is reporting that nobody is talking about replacing her? That's news? I don't get it.
- br0ck, on 09/03/2008, -0/+5Yes, let's talk about children for a moment. Like the first son of the deeply religious VP pick for the party of family values, Sarah Palin. Her son was born April 20, 1989 meaning she conceived before July 28, 1988 and then she eloped on August 29, 1988. Wow, abstinence sure works great for their family doesn't it?
- Theisos, on 09/03/2008, -5/+10How about let's not? What does Obama's birth have to do with the man he has become? What the ***** is wrong with you?
- eh123, on 09/03/2008, -1/+6The fear and desperation from the left is palpable. A large backlash is building against the angry, sexist vitriol spewing forth from the likes of HuffPo.
- DangQuesadilla, on 09/03/2008, -6/+11VPILF
- connieLingus, on 09/03/2008, -3/+8well, that's a boldfaced lie!
everyone knows they are going to first torture the homeless by pulling out their fingernails and feeding them to sharks, and only then will the GOP kill them...
sheesh, you brainwashed gop'ers are always telling lies. - booyahbitch, on 09/03/2008, -1/+6Yeah...but you didn't post it on Digg and ask for Diggs!! :oP
- JohnnyKdiggs, on 09/03/2008, -4/+9I have a feeling that the Palin pick is a "New Coke" scheme. Think about it, the pick is so terrible that it makes even Romney seem like a welcome relief.
I mean, McCain can't seriously think Palin is a good pick...could he? - rald84, on 09/03/2008, -3/+8"this election isn't about issues"
-- mccain's campaign manager. - 471776, on 09/03/2008, -3/+8"someone really far worse". Is that actually possible? I'm trying to imagine how you could actually get worse than her, and I'm not getting very far. She's a bible-thumping, creationist, anti-environment, pro-life, abstinence-only, pro-war inexperienced feminist. She has no national policy decisions or plans to refer to, but on every other issue she seems to be about as bad as I could imagine anyway.
- booyahbitch, on 09/03/2008, -1/+6Uh...you have me scared!!
- edyang, on 09/03/2008, -0/+5Liberals find new ways to lose elections.
It's comical. - SethEllis, on 09/03/2008, -1/+6Whoohoo my comment has +9 and -9. Come on Obamabots bring it!
- EatingPie, on 09/03/2008, -4/+9Millions? That served as Mayors and Governors?
It's fine to disagree with her politics and policies, but this kind of rhetoric doesn't do anyone any good.
