- DenaL, on 07/24/2008, -7/+69I am getting a lot of satisfaction in watching the Republican party implode.
- michaelb1, on 07/24/2008, -3/+30I think the GOP is in pretty bad shape. The media might not be covering the GOP's ***** so that the November races might seem more close and thus more dramatic.
There have lots of stories on blogs lately about how screwed the GOP is:
1- voting districts are planning for massive turnouts becuase of Obama.
2- GOP politicians have been instructed to vote in any way that will keep them elected even if it breaks with party doctrine. in other words, Save Yourself.
3- a recent poll says only 14% of McCain supporters are "excited" about their candidate. - inactive, on 07/24/2008, -3/+26When you are so utterly full of ***** it is hard to relate to society and the real world. Republicans are so ***** in 2008, it isn't funny... hopefully a lesson will be learned, but I'm afraid that is asking for too much.
- wonderworm, on 07/24/2008, -4/+23Given the GOP are very dangerous professional liars and cheaters, a permanent movement to crush the GOP as it exists today would be fitting retribution for all their criminal acts from Tom Delay to Karl Rove.
- TheWriteGuy, on 07/24/2008, -2/+20W = Worst
- drmobutu, on 07/24/2008, -5/+18It was apparent eight years ago...what took him so long to recognize it?
- PHiZ187, on 07/24/2008, -0/+12You know you are out of touch when you think your problem is with "messaging" and not with starting unnecessary wars, shredding the constitution, and enriching your fat-cat friends. Yeah, that's it guy, you're just not SELLING it right...
- alacrity2005, on 07/24/2008, -1/+12Yeah, because there hasn't been a massive wealth redistribution plan going on the last 8 years. ***** idiot.
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -2/+12If you voted for this douchebag in 2004 you fail as a human being. Might as well mitigate the damage you've done to the human species as best you can and put a bullet in your head.
- Aldanga, on 07/24/2008, -0/+9"Huckabee was the only one that came close to have an Internet presence like Obama."
WTF? We're talking about Internet presence and money raised and the only one she mentions is Huckabee? - kolyana, on 07/24/2008, -2/+11This is great to be speaking out and everything, but part of the reason for the Republican part mess is that their membership DID NOT speak out over the previous 8 years. Everyone has been whipped into submission and made to tow a party line that many do not believe in. The minute that they started turning blind eyes to their leadership's behavior, the minute that they allowed themselves to be told what to vote for, the minute that they allowed themselves to be herded like ship, they became collaborators and PART of the problem.
We're in this mess because of people like this ... speaking out now is 4 years too late and frankly chicken s**t; we could have done with more dissension and more effort to get back to core - and historic - republican policies a long, long time ago.
I have a friend who is a republican (I'm sorry, I know, I know *hangs head in shame*) and he is voting for McCain, for no other reason than "he's a republican"; and THAT is the same darn problem that their entire party has been suffering from for the last 6-8 years ... - kemp34, on 07/24/2008, -10/+18The party should have gone more the "Ron Paul" route rather than the "George Bush" route. We'll see when the apparatus wakes up to this.
- julia07, on 07/24/2008, -6/+13The rethugs are TOAST!!!
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -1/+8"What have you done for society lately"
I donated $2300 to Barack Obama.
You're welcome - EarlOfLade, on 07/25/2008, -1/+7No, the US political system is a huge disaster and it's there for anyone who cares to look. What the US need, is a total shake up of the whole society, including states and federal division, political and legal system etc. Including changing to a multi party system, it will be better for everyone since USA may learn what "compromise" means.
- chevyorange, on 07/24/2008, -1/+7Yeah because things have been so good the last 8 years. *****!
- Gosunkugi, on 07/24/2008, -0/+6I agree that his actual candidacy wasn't exactly a massive success and I'm not particularly a supporter of him to begin with, but that's different from being a matter of "internet presence."
- nirvanix, on 07/24/2008, -0/+6I've heard Kucinich give his reasons why he is seeking impeachment. He truly believes that great injustice has been done and he feels obligated to speak out against it. If these injustices did occur, and I think we all know that it is so, then isn't it better to at least try to do the right thing instead of sticking our heads in the sand?
- Gosunkugi, on 07/24/2008, -2/+7"Just look at our presidential candidates [this cycle]. Huckabee was the only one that came close to have an Internet presence like Obama."
... really? *Really?* - Cyberpoop, on 07/24/2008, -3/+8Quote from the GOP insider regarding young voters who favor Obama: "These people now are leaving college and giving to Obama. It is phenomenal. If you are giving up your beer money for three nights it means you are invested in the guy."
I'll just let that statement stand without commentary. - bravo1995, on 07/25/2008, -0/+5"Elected representatives should vote as their constituents demand, not as the party demands."
That's not necessarily true. You could argue that in a Republic like ours, we elect officials to carefully study the issues and make what they think are the best decisions.
It's not like that happens either, though. - nydwarf, on 07/24/2008, -1/+6So what's the alternative, more of the same?
- Nevarius, on 07/25/2008, -0/+5And 'Trickle down economics' or any other method that distributes money to the top works so well? Guess thats why the middle class is shrinking, falling further down, while the upper class becomes wealthier.
If you want to stimulate an economy effectively, you must have it circulate. Not horded by a few that have more interest in cutting costs, and maximizing profit by shipping jobs overseas where they have near slave labor.
- angryfirelord, on 07/24/2008, -0/+5Who knows what will happen. If the GOP starts taking some big losses in the house & senate in 08, Republicans in general are going to start pushing for the party to get back on its more libertarian track.
- jcl777, on 07/24/2008, -1/+5They're ALLOWING them to go against the party line...How can you take yourself seriously as a human being if your actions are not guided by your own principles and ideas? Especially as a person who influences world events on the scale that politicians do. That leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. Not like its surprising or anything, its just that I get a little ill every time I'm reminded of it.
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -1/+5Swing states where Obama currently leads: OH, PA, WI, CO, MI, NJ, VA
Swing states where McCain leads: MO - Cuchanu, on 07/24/2008, -1/+5Me too but I don't think the democrats are doing any better. In any other year with anybody else as president they would be the ones up ***** creek without a paddle.
- MelvinSchlubman, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3pyronik, you've been asleep while wealth has been redistributed to the wealthy cronies of the Repubs.
Corporations are the new aristrocacy. The rest of us are becomming their serfs. - defwheezer, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3Exactly what should happen when politicians put the "Party" above everything else as the Republicans are so infamous for doing.
- Otiose321, on 07/24/2008, -4/+7anandpopat raises a good point, I don't know why people are so quick to bury the comment. A news outlet shouldn't be so blatantly biased all the time. Fox is, Huffington is, and many others are.
It's not that it makes it hard to get good information, it's that it doesn't educate people... it feeds them what they want to hear. Real, unoppinionated news is "boring" - because it isn't sided. It doesnt' tell you bad things abuot the guy you hate, and good thigns abuot the guy you love. It tells you like it is... and that is, for the most part, boring.
When someone can say, as anandpopat and Mr.Furious2k did, that it's a typical huffington post article, that's a bad thing. News outlets shouldn't have a known bias.
This comes to you as a completely non-partisan post. - BothBarsOn, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3Smartest comment so far.
- cheezintern, on 07/24/2008, -1/+3"Elected representatives should vote as their constituents demand, not as the party demands."
..maybe in magical happy land, but in America elected representatives vote along party lines because they only care about who gives them money. - Otiose321, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2That's one of the problems with Digg itself. People can vote without argument.
You can lay down your thoughts in a logical and clear way, and people can express their dissent without logic with the click of a button.
Good points aren't dugg, but points on the same side of the table. What does that achieve? A mindless drone of individuals who all just agree.
Want to sponsor a good discussion? Then encourage those who actually make strong points, even if you disagree with their views, by digging them. - sykopath79, on 07/24/2008, -2/+4"2- GOP politicians have been instructed to vote in any way that will keep them elected even if it breaks with party doctrine. in other words, Save Yourself."
...the entire notion of a party "instructing" its member politicians to vote any particular way strikes me as contrary to the notion of a representative democratic republic, which is what the United States (ostensibly) is.
Elected representatives should vote as their constituents demand, not as the party demands. - xxpor, on 07/24/2008, -1/+3NJ is a swing state?
- MelvinSchlubman, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2not agreeing with me: not welcome on digg
- Stavrosian, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2America's attitude to the Republicans seems so reminiscent of how British people talked of the Tories when they elected Tony Blair and Labour in their stead. It takes years to rebuild trust when people hate you so much.
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -6/+8So that the states can force religion on our public schools, violate our privacy and due process rights, and there will be nothing anyone can do about it because Ron Paul's "We The People Act" prevents us from getting the federal courts involved?
No thank you. I'm not interested in Ron Paul's blatant attempt to undercut the constitution by stripping federal courts of their jurisdiction to protect Americans against encroachment of their liberties in the name of "states' rights." Fortunately, the vast majority of American voters are similarly uninterested in Ron Paul's mad attempt to shred the constitution and have loudly told him to get *****. - rearlgrant, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2Tom Delay... Try Richard Nixon and ilk.
- cheezintern, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2I was thinking Phenomenal Failure...
- kaptainKraken, on 07/25/2008, -2/+4If you think wealth redistribution is the worst thing that will happen in the near future then you got another thing coming.
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -1/+3Does it matter when Diebold determines the winner?
- minox, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2Keep in mind that this "GOP insider" is a former fundraiser who is now trying to advertise her novel that is supposedly based in large part on her experience inside the GOP. I'm not saying she's completely full of *****, but coincidences like that make you think she may be exhibiting a little bit of faux moral outrage to get sales.
- rearlgrant, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2Well, in general Democrats are better, but I agree that both parties are corrupt. I try to work for the revolution, but the cogs turn slowly... Both parties need a kick to the curb. The Democrats are running Congress and their national party like they are in a Louis Jordan song. http://www.louisjordan.com/lyrics/AintNobodyHereBu ...
- razorsedge555, on 07/25/2008, -1/+3As a hetero male, I applaud a man who "slams Bush". Unfortunately Bush is doing the same to the rest of the country.
- Otiose321, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2Man, I wish Cheney looked like that. Then there would be no reason to not have him elected as President.
- PHiZ187, on 07/24/2008, -1/+3And go where? Brazil?
- zombies187, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1He supports Obama. Maybe you could reconsider ...
- rearlgrant, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1kaptain -- I'll be glad for it too happen. Believe it or not, since you are on digg, you will be too.
- rearlgrant, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1True.
