Read it, it has a shock ending. - Maddoktor2, on 04/27/2009, -18/+149Hey, GOP?
News flash, fellas-
There's this newfangled doohickey called the Internet.
You see, it allows Americans to fact-find without having to rely on the mass media you so skillfully control and manipulate.
In other words, your lies and hypocrisy are now more quickly and easily exposed for what they are on a daily basis, and Americans just aren't falling for them any longer.
That's why you lost so heavily in 2008, and will most likely continue to do so until you decide to wise up and clean up your act.
In short, America is wise to you and has finally outgrown you.
Welcome to the 21st century. - biotch, on 04/27/2009, -13/+120This is just sickening to really think about what this means.... They care less about whether the US resorts to torturing people, than they care about their party staying in power.
- Hillsfar, on 04/27/2009, -4/+60For a sec I was thinking it was April Fool's.
Then I saw that these quotes were about Clinton. Yep. Republican hypocrites. - charlie6969, on 04/27/2009, -6/+54I don't care who calls for an investigation. NOT calling for an investigation into this is as disgusting as a snot sandwich!
(sorry folks. I needed to elaborate on disgusting.lol) - mystcnurse, on 04/27/2009, -1/+47Why does everyone want to make this a Republican vs. Democrat thing? They're all guilty. Anyone who KNEW or who now knows and does nothing about it. Aren't we all supposed to be Americans?
- CaptOblivious, on 04/27/2009, -0/+43I just love the posts by the clueless that diden't bother to read the article!
- humptyz, on 04/27/2009, -2/+43Haha. I knew the original story couldn't be correct. I just got a letter back from Lindsey Graham where he agreed with Obama that America should look forward, not backward; that no good will come from investigating possible crimes by an administration no longer in power.
Yep, that pretty much fits the definition of a hypocrite if you ask me. - groverblue, on 04/27/2009, -9/+50Senator Lindsay Graham (R-SC) now:
We need to look at to make sure exactly what happened is known to the public and to deter any future president from doing like behavior, if it was wrong. In that regard, if we can do it in a bipartisan fashion, I think that's what we should do. Every American benefits when you can control X abuse of power. If this was an abuse of power, then we need to know about it.

Rudy Guiliani now:

That's rich. - Waiting2awake, on 04/27/2009, -22/+60Divisive politics are divisive politics. Good thing one side is so clean, while the other....hey wait....
Nov, seriously and with respect, your dislike for the Bush Admin is admirable, your ability to see through republican talking points incredible. If only you could use it to see the other side, you would be of more use to the people of America, but when you can only see one side, you are merely the image of Herk, or onetimer, or any number of the usual idiots of the right that can so clearly see the folly of the left, and see through their talking point, but unable to see the "right" has the same issues.
Only when we raise above the divisive nature of a two party system, that Us vs Them, that the people will have a chance against the powers that be. I know you to be a thoughtful person, please put some thought into this.
Thanks. - paintgrl, on 04/27/2009, -8/+41AHH shucks novenator, I was going finally the Republicans are acting human and then wham...
To bad so sad.. I was so hopeful until the end there :) - eco57, on 04/27/2009, -1/+26This article left me feeling abused, but I suppose that fits in a way.
- novenator, on 04/27/2009, -5/+29um, no problem I guess.
- toobueller, on 04/27/2009, -6/+29CNN? You mean the conservative news network? The network that gave us glenn beck and nancy grace? THAT CNN is "Liberal media"? I'll grant you MSNBC, but you're smoking crack if you think CNN is liberal.
- CaptOblivious, on 04/27/2009, -3/+26Um, you diden't actually bother to read the article.
And, perhaps they COULD, but so far, they are refusing to do so. - Stormwern, on 04/27/2009, -2/+24It would have been shocking if it didn't have that ending.
- Petestreet, on 04/27/2009, -1/+21Politicians will do what benefits THEM.
It is rare to find someone with political power, who got it without sacrificing their integrity. - tidu, on 04/27/2009, -0/+19Someone didn't read the article.
- PopcornDave, on 04/27/2009, -1/+18Either that or they haven't yet figured out a way to drag the opposition down with them yet. Once they figure out an air tight way to tie Pelosi and Reed to this, watch for the call for hearings.
- Metavirus, on 04/27/2009, -4/+21too bad torture doesn't actually, you know, work.
- inactive, on 04/27/2009, -0/+17Lol@assumption that there is a "Leftist" in Congress
Love, a REAL Socialist - Metavirus, on 04/27/2009, -5/+22you're kind of missing the point of the article.
- br0ken1128, on 04/27/2009, -1/+17Torture is flawed, people will confess to things they didn't even do under those circumstances ..
For the person being tortured, the goal is to say something that will please the keepers so they stop torturing you.. fact is irrelevant, stopping the torture is the only goal.
Besides, in that environment it's probably difficult to think straight anyway.. - Spike019, on 04/27/2009, -11/+27Thanks
- tnoy, on 04/27/2009, -0/+16Digg has articles?
- EricSchC1, on 04/27/2009, -1/+15"if democrats waste their time investigating it'll create a snowball effect with republicans wanting payback when they're re-elected."
Something I saw with one of the guests on Real Time this past weekend raises a valid point against the above statement. All criminal investigations and prosecutions deal with crimes that happened in the PAST. Unless we started doing investigations on crimes that haven't happened yet, prosecution of those parties most responsible for any illegalities is and should be treated with the utmost importance and followed through to the letter of the law.
I'm all for moving on and looking forward, but I don't believe in just letting people in power do as they please without any recourse either. - FredFredrickson, on 04/27/2009, -4/+18Which prisons are those?
- coachbluebones, on 04/27/2009, -2/+15Moreover... if I remember how the impeachment hearings went... they care more about a President getting blown in the Oval Office than a President torturing someone in the Oval Office. Moral high ground: conceded.
- ftc08, on 04/27/2009, -0/+13Hahahahhahahahahahaha
/s, right? - inactive, on 04/27/2009, -3/+16You want neutral media? Try the BBC. /Thread
- Metavirus, on 04/27/2009, -2/+14Funny how times change, isn't it?
Remember President Bush right after Abu Ghraib? "It's important for people to understand that in a democracy, there will be a full investigation. In other words, we want to know the truth. In our country, when there's an allegation of abuse ... there will be a full investigation, and justice will be delivered. ... It's very important for people and your listeners to understand that in our country, when an issue is brought to our attention on this magnitude, we act. And we act in a way in which leaders are willing to discuss it with the media. ... In other words, people want to know the truth. That stands in contrast to dictatorships. A dictator wouldn't be answering questions about this. A dictator wouldn't be saying that the system will be investigated and the world will see the results of the investigation."
http://www.librarygrape.com/2009/04/bush-dictators ... - groverblue, on 04/27/2009, -0/+12I'll give you that. But look at the difference between the Clinton Administration and the Bush Administration and how they changed.
- arbulus, on 04/27/2009, -3/+15"distracts the public from what Obama is really up to"
@mystcnurse
what exactly is it that Obama is "up to"? - br0ken1128, on 04/27/2009, -1/+13I think getting a blowjob in the oval office is a far cry from secret government torture sites.... not sure about you, but that event was made into a spectical purely for political points...
I think this is something that SHOULD be investigated, I personally don't care who Bill was banging in the oval office, aside from the fact it's unpresidential, it's also unimportant to the operation of the country.
I think this too is being made into a political spectical, it's a time where it's unpopular to be Republican and it's unpopular to side with Bush, so the Repubs are distancing themselves and trying to take an opposing stance.. many of the same people who were right there supporting Bush before are now anxious to throw him in the pit... nobody objected at the time, and it's clear that more knew about this than is currently known. - Metavirus, on 04/27/2009, -3/+15they are happy to do it, so long as the former president is a democrat
- davebg8r, on 04/27/2009, -4/+15There is an Us against Them. We the people of this country versus the Corrupt, Spineless and Ethically Challenged people who supposedly represent us, the leadership and office holders of the republican and democratic parties.
- Metavirus, on 04/27/2009, -1/+12Oh, and how could I forget this Bush quote from back in 2003?
"Torture anywhere is an affront to human dignity everywhere. We are committed to building a world where human rights are respected and protected by the rule of law.
Freedom from torture is an inalienable human right. The Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment, ratified by the United States and more than 130 other countries since 1984, forbids governments from deliberately inflicting severe physical or mental pain or suffering on those within their custody or control. Yet torture continues to be practiced around the world by rogue regimes whose cruel methods match their determination to crush the human spirit. Beating, burning, rape, and electric shock are some of the grisly tools such regimes use to terrorize their own citizens. These despicable crimes cannot be tolerated by a world committed to justice....
The United States is committed to the world-wide elimination of torture and we are leading this fight by example. I call on all governments to join with the United States and the community of law-abiding nations in prohibiting, investigating, and prosecuting all acts of torture and in undertaking to prevent other cruel and unusual punishment. I call on all nations to speak out against torture in all its forms and to make ending torture an essential part of their diplomacy. I further urge governments to join America and others in supporting torture victims' treatment centers, contributing to the UN Fund for the Victims of Torture, and supporting the efforts of non-governmental organizations to end torture and assist its victims."
http://www.librarygrape.com/2009/04/george-w-bush- ... - paintgrl, on 04/27/2009, -0/+10Your right, Republicans are human I should of said compassionate or maybe rational. And of course not all conservatives are of the wingnut variety, I was just hoping there was a change in the congressional Republicans from party line to common sense. Oh well.
- Metavirus, on 04/27/2009, -7/+17you're missing the point of the article.
- cerejota, on 04/27/2009, -5/+15Naw, conservatives view liberals as non-human too. A whole ***** of denying the humanity of the other. America, ***** YEAH!
- WasabiBomb, on 04/27/2009, -4/+14Because saying crap about the Democrats distracts the public from what the Republicans have ALREADY DONE. The apologists don't even try to make excuses anymore- now, all they can do is to try to paint the Dems as bad as the Pubs... as if that somehow excuses the Pubs for what they've done.
I don't want to belong to any one party. I want to vote for whomever will get the job done. I want to be proud of my government. However, until the Republicans stop putting party before country, I just can't do that. - ftc08, on 04/27/2009, -3/+13This is classic. Copy what they think the left wing conspiracy is doing, but make it retarded.
We've seen this very recently
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_McCain_2008 - treehugger87, on 04/27/2009, -0/+10Ummm, yeah, read this FIRST. Context matters.
- amzran, on 04/27/2009, -1/+11Isnt "two party system" vs. "people who dont like two party system" an "Us vs. Them" argument as well?
There are two types of people in this world, those agree there are two types of people in this world and those that dont. - TheUndertoker, on 04/27/2009, -3/+12"...oh wait! Democrats have control of big media, so any of their crimes get conveniently ignored while the smallest of offenses by the GOP gets blown out of proportion."
You are either a GOP supporter, or just a troll. Either way, shut up, douche. - SpinningHead, on 04/27/2009, -0/+9I seem to recall conservatives referring to us as traitors for questioning the president.
- novenator, on 04/28/2009, -0/+9Thanks to everyone who read the article to the end.
Certainly demonstrates a bit of hypocrisy, doesn't it? - Metavirus, on 04/27/2009, -0/+9for example, we court martialed US soldiers who waterboarded Filipinos.
want a more recent example?
How about the law enforcement officials we convicted back in 1983 down in pro-secessionist Texas?
"In 1983, federal prosecutors charged a Texas sheriff and three of his deputies with violating prisoners' civil rights by forcing confessions. The complaint alleged that the officers conspired to "subject prisoners to a suffocating water torture ordeal in order to coerce confessions. This generally included the placement of a towel over the nose and mouth of the prisoner and the pouring of water in the towel until the prisoner began to move, jerk, or otherwise indicate that he was suffocating and/or drowning." The four defendants were convicted, and the sheriff was sentenced to 10 years in prison. "
See http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/artic ... - yellephant, on 04/27/2009, -0/+8Agreed, very fair. Glad to have your support.
