- voxlisa999, on 08/31/2008, -6/+47Sorry, but the best offense is a good defense. I am tired of seeing and hearing that "Obama has never done anything in his life" from you people. Below is a severely abbreviated Resume of Barack Obama- citing none of his achievements- just basic background that Republicans can't even acknowledge for some bizarre reason.
Obama was an Illinois State Senator for 8 years 1996-2004. Chairman, Health and Human Services Committee.
Obama was a Constitutional Law Professor at the U of Chicago Law School 1993-2004
Obama was a Civil Rights Attorney - 1992-2004
Obama is a United States Senator 2004-present
Member, Senate Foreign Relations Committee
Chairman, Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on European Affairs
Member, Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions
Member, Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs
Member, Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs
Obama Education:
Columbia University
B.A. Political Science with specialization in international relations
Thesis topic: Soviet nuclear disarmament
Graduate
Harvard Law School
J.D. Magna cum laude 1988-1991
President, Harvard Law Review
No offense, but Palin bounced around 3 Idaho colleges before getting her degree in journalism, although she never wrote a single thing for the school paper and no one at Univeristy of Idaho remembers her.

Is this a joke to suck the greatness out of Obama's top notch speech only to have her withdraw at the convention due to kid problems and pick Romney!!?? GMAFB!!
- daniellamariane, on 08/31/2008, -2/+23Sarah Palin’s Experience, in contrast to Obama’s:
Former Miss Wasilla;
Miss AK Pageant first runner up;
She went to Hawaii Pacific University as a freshman in the business administration program in 1982 for one semester. She then transferred to North Idaho College 1983-1984 and eventually graduated from the University of Idaho in 1987 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism;
She was a one time sports reporter;
She was in the PTA;
Palin served two terms on to the city Counsel of Wasilla, AK;
She was then elected and reelected Mayor of her hometown of Wasilla, AK;
She served as an Ethics Commissioner of the Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. She resigned in protest after 1 year;
First woman elected Governor of AK 18 months ago.
Btw, Alaska has a part time legislature which meets for 3 months a year. AK population is smaller than many counties in larger states. So in the less then 2 years that she has been Governor, Palin has presided over 6 months of her state legislative activity. - akinapb, on 08/31/2008, -3/+19Wait let me guess, and the McCain supporters are going to come out here and say that that Republican state senator is corrupt! Let me say this first, even if this post did come from Huffington Post, its' actual source comes from Anchorage News, which seems respectable and credible.
"She's not prepared to be governor. How can she be prepared to be vice president or president?" said Green, a Republican from Palin's hometown of Wasilla. "Look at what she's done to this state. What would she do to the nation?"
That says a lot about her character, especially when it comes from a colleague in her same party! If anything, that establishes the fact that she clearly can't lead the nation, coming from even a Republican state senator of course, not just some random person who knows nothing about Alaska. - AndrewDB, on 08/31/2008, -5/+15She's not a good governor.. she's being investigated by the fed's for abuse of power, and she doesn't even know what the VP does.
How can this woman be VP?.. - stagnate, on 08/31/2008, -3/+13she has a granddaughter to look after
- carpespasm, on 08/31/2008, -0/+8Yes, his wonderful experience wherein he's voted almost identically to Bush Jr. (100% of the time in the last year, 90% in previous years, is prone to fits of anger, has stood up for people's right to tell other people they have to carry a rape-baby to term even if said fetus isn't more than a loose lump of cells, has voted against minority and women's rights issues for nearly 30 years, and until the RNC picked up the tab, he's all but run his campaign into the dirt early this year, while Barack Obama and Ron Paul had both run their campaigns in the black. Lets not forget sleezy tactics like the kind used against him while he was up against Bush last time he ran against Obama this time.
How about just his experience with technology, the single BIGGEST future driver of our economy? He's got no idea how to so much as turn a computer on, let along the myriad intricacies of how computers and the internet work. His top tech advisor is a shill for the RIAA. While I don't expect older generations to be capable of programming a router or starting a web-based company, it's a modern form of illiteracy to not know how to use a computer. Meanwhile Obama's backed pretty much every good piece of technology legislation that came through the senate and tried to work against every bad piece. He gets it, and he won't let wannabe monopolies poison the core of what's made technology and innovation the core drivers of our economy..
That's not the kind of experience I want running my country.
PS: McCain sleeps during senate sessions.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkkTFVIxMQs - kotipup, on 08/31/2008, -1/+9Not sure what you mean by that, FLaG8r. I'm the mother of a severely disabled child, who has suffered seizures (she has them daily), heart surgery, two brain surgeries, and more hospitalizations than I can count. I've been tried as a mother, and - in that sense, I feel a kinship to Palin - but I do not, in any way, feel that I am qualified to be Vice President of the United States. I don't think that her having five children, including one with DS, should in any way disqualify her, but her personal story does not make her qualified, either.
- jerrym123, on 08/31/2008, -0/+8You forgot to mention that Obama was also a state senator before running for congress
State legislator, 1997–2004
Main article: Illinois Senate career of Barack Obama
Obama was elected to the Illinois Senate in 1996, succeeding State Senator Alice Palmer as Senator from the 13th District, which then spanned Chicago South Side neighborhoods from Hyde Park-Kenwood south to South Shore and west to Chicago Lawn.[27] Once elected, Obama gained bipartisan support for legislation reforming ethics and health care laws.[28] He sponsored a law increasing tax credits for low-income workers, negotiated welfare reform, and promoted increased subsidies for childcare.[29] In 2001, as co-chairman of the bipartisan Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, Obama supported Republican Governor Ryan's payday loan regulations and predatory mortgage lending regulations aimed at averting home foreclosures,[30] and in 2003, Obama sponsored and led unanimous, bipartisan passage of legislation to monitor racial profiling by requiring police to record the race of drivers they detained and legislation making Illinois the first state to mandate videotaping of homicide interrogations.[29][31]
Obama was reelected to the Illinois Senate in 1998, and again in 2002.[32] In 2000, he lost a Democratic primary run for the U.S. House of Representatives to four-term incumbent Bobby Rush by a margin of two to one.[33][34]
In January 2003, Obama became chairman of the Illinois Senate's Health and Human Services Committee when Democrats, after a decade in the minority, regained a majority.[35] During his 2004 general election campaign for U.S. Senate, police representatives credited Obama for his active engagement with police organizations in enacting death penalty reforms.[36] Obama resigned from the Illinois Senate in November 2004 following his election to the US Senate.[37] - ctdmsmith, on 08/31/2008, -4/+11I think the Republicans saw Obama give that speech in front of 84,000 people and panicked. They knew they had to do something big to grab the headlines, so they snatched her out of their butts. I think the choice was so blatantly politically motivated it is unreal. I think if the Republicans had chosen a women with actual "experience" and substance they would have come off sincere in advancing women in government. I read this yesterday and I think it sums it up best.
"McCain chose his VP so he can win, Obama chose his VP so America can win." - stonecircle, on 06/11/2009, -0/+6Her record speaks volumes of her priorities. Palin shifted $130,000 out of the budget from the Anchorage Police, $500,000 out of the budget for the Anchorage Fire Department, and $200,00 from road maintenance to earmark 100,000 for a football field, $630,000 for the Wasilla sports complex (the town she hails from), and $100,000 for bleachers at the Palmer High School. Does a “soccer mom” really belong in the Whitehouse?

I can't get my head around how anyone can have a positive slant on this pairing - but then I still don't understand how Bush has been President for the past 8 years. Clearly the true republican voters don't have internet connections as I'm not seeing nearly enough coming out in support of them.
Please America, do the right thing - Obama '08 - akinapb, on 08/31/2008, -2/+7If you look at the article itself, Huffington Post cited Anchorage News as the source. At least it is substantiated, even if it does come from a liberal media source, it does not make it any less true.
- plach72, on 08/31/2008, -0/+5I am genuinely stunned that McCain is so clueless. Either he actually hates this country, or thinks he is immortal. Does he really believe that Palin could just step into his shoes and run this country? There's no doubt that we are not the world power that we once were. Still, we're a pretty big place with lots going on in the world. To compare her experience to Obama's and expect people to think they are in the same league-----I'm thinking McCain's people haven't ever been on a job interview. To believe that women will vote for Palin simply because she has a vagina----------says so much about McCain thinks of women. Yes, I already know he used the derogatory slang term for his wife. Apparantly, he thinks the same word applies to all of us. I think this is one of the saddest, most political of moves I have ever seen on the national stage. If we have a true and honest election in November, there is no doubt that Obama/Biden will be in the White House. Then they can send McCain a lovely Thank You note for this gift.

My thoughts on the whole issue are this. She doesn't have the knowledge of the things that the president deals with. She has been the governor or what state? Alaska? Oh yeah, the state that has nothing going on except tours and wildlife fundraising.

I can't believe that people are actually buying the cheap bill of goods being sold to them as comparable to Obama.
It is IMPERATIVE that we get the truth out there to people so they can make an informed decision. That being said, we can't just sit back and believe like we did in the last two elections that truth will prevail. We MUST be proactive!

Secondly, I do know the difference between fact and individual wishful thinking, you are wishfully thinking because I actually have warrants that claim she can't lead the nation from a source that has clearly seen what the governor has done first hand. You have nothing other than your own pathetic ignorant words, you have no credibility, your words have no baring. Spare me your lecture because you have no idea what it is you are talking about because you have proven through your pathetic arguments you attempt to present. - winmywii, on 08/31/2008, -0/+1Is there no report button any more? My advice, get used to it... I've found myself voting for the lesser of two evils every single election I've been able to vote in, going back to Dole/Clinton. If I recall, I voted for Joan Jett Blakk, just because the name cracked me up, as the party did as well. It is an absolute certainty that I really didn't give a damn that election! (Besides, I didn't think Dole stood a chance)
Give it time... politics is addictive!
