    Palin was a former advocate of Alaska leaving the US. She is also anti-abortion, pro-assault rifle rights (see youtube of her with an M16), against contraception (see her daught hter, great policy) and demands creationism be taught in high school science class.

    She is an extreme right wringer, we cannot have her in the White House.

If they do want to leave the US, shouldn't they be able to? It's the right of the people to govern themselves. The USA is not some holy union that cannot or should not be broken. It's united States.

    I just think it's funny how secession has become a bad word, yet that's exactly what we did from Britain, yet somehow that was OK while others wanting to secede from the US are wrong.

Don't get me wrong...I am hardcore Darwin and I think "intelligent" design is the stupidest ***** ever, but don't take peoples' words out of context. It makes you look like a moron and nullifies your otherwise passionate stance.

    Also, you have no idea if she is against contraception or if her daughter chose not to listen if/when they discussed it. Maybe she feels that parents and not schools should teach they're children about sex (conjecture).

During this horrific time the Independence Party was not recognized as an actual party, and wasn't even a state until January 3, 1959. Therefore, anything this party has to say today should be deemed inaccurate.

  • BRod1, on 09/02/2008, -6/+15As someone who is voting for Obama/Biden, I have to say that this really won't be seen as a "big deal." Democrats will point to it and say, "See, she's dangerous!" while hardcore Republicans will say, "See, she's one of us!" while it likely will have little effect on a swing voter. While belonging to such an organization might seem extreme to us in the lower forty-eight, these kind of feelings aren't uncommon in Alaska or Hawaii. Make no mistake, I think she's an anti-intellectual extremist right-winger who is dangerous, but no one should be surprised that someone who embraces extreme right-wing politics would be into states' rights - even possibly outright secession - in a big way.

    What really bothers me about Palin is that the single-issue crowd - the anti-abortion rights set - seem to be willing to overlook all the other flaws that have come out about this VP candidate all because she chose to give birth to her child despite knowing of the birth defects beforehand. Adhering to one core principle should not absolve one of the responsibility to live up to other principles.

    More scandalous is that a poster-woman for the "holier-than-thou" set has a daughter that is pregnant...and unmarried...and underage...

It looks like he did no research into her background and chose someone who has no experience, hates the environment, loves oil companies, gained her town of 9,000 millions of dollars by shady earmarks, is currently under investigation for the firing of a relative, obviously is not really patriotic about our country (not that I really care), and we found out yesterday her underage daughter is pregnant. Sounds like the best choice for VP McCain! We are now truly seeing McCain's judgment. Hopefully America wakes up and sees this woman for what she really is.

[sips morning latte] Would you care to explain how Alaska, which is sitting on vast natural resources, could possibly secede without provoking a civil war? Presumably, any secession would involve stealing valuable federal lands from the government -- I don't see how Alaska could survive as an independent nation otherwise.

  • Yarmin3, on 09/02/2008, -2/+10It was settled in 1865 that a superior fighting force can bring a separatist region back into the country. It did not settle if it was justified. The U.S. has been nation building since 1865. We just recently added Iraq to that list.
  • akatsuki, on 09/02/2008, -4/+12What about the irresponsibility of having children so late in life that increases the odds of having Downs Syndrome children? Oh wait - "go forth and multiply". I respect her for sticking to her stance even when it came at some personal cost to herself, but there is nothing heroic in taking responsibility for your own actions, and it is a sad world that doing even that minimum is considered heroism.

    If she is pro-abstinence, she should be for herself as well. If she doesn't want to take contraceptives then she should rightfully forgo sex.
