- inactive, on 11/03/2007, -1/+77Moonshining is a very serious crime. Just ask Boss Hogg.
- MedicSean37, on 11/03/2007, -5/+48I'm a big Ron Paul fan too, but please don't spam. It really turns people off.
- SheilaNoya, on 10/30/2007, -3/+32Why don't YOU provide us all with a verifiable record of Fred Thompson's cases then? It's all public information, so if you want to dispute the L.A. Times you shouldn't have a problem putting your money where your mouth is. We won't hold our breath waiting on you.
- huskerdude, on 10/30/2007, -0/+24Those are such Tennessee crimes.
- toxicityj, on 11/01/2007, -1/+20he successfully put that murderer that was terrorizing NYC in jail. and I believe he even assisted sending a few rapists, pedos, and terrorists to jail.
no wait..that was Law & Order...nevermind. - ehalasey, on 11/01/2007, -3/+21I know, I know . . . a news publication that's won as many Pulitzer Prizes as the Los Angeles Times certainly cannot be trusted. Meanwhile, you do realize that they can't publish anything that hasn't been reviewed by a fact checker, right? You know, risk of libel suit and whatnot.
- TheLoneHoot, on 10/30/2007, -1/+14Caption under picture of Thompson: 'click to enlarge'
NO THANK YOU!!! Halloween ain't for two more days! - minorthreat, on 11/01/2007, -1/+13The source of the site is irrelevant. It states he prosecuted 88 criminals and it mentions a few. None of which seemed to be major ones.. So you will go ahead and assume LA Times is blatantly lying about facts? I'm against certain media outlets distorting the truth and all, but I never deny facts, no matter the source...
- TexMurphy, on 11/01/2007, -2/+13Fred Thompson should stay in Tennessee fighting CB radio crime and moonshine running. He is just like Rudy Giuliani bad actor and a bad politician.
- NinjaBoy, on 11/01/2007, -1/+11When A trucker actually shows up to make good on the dirty talk.
- buyer687, on 11/01/2007, -0/+9Has he prosecuted any bathtub cheese makers?
- tman84, on 10/30/2007, -0/+9oh you mean crimes with victims as opposed to the millions of people incarcerated for victimless crimes
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -1/+10Wow, a comment like that from you, what a surprise.
- sineyopitty, on 10/30/2007, -0/+8Do we really need another president who got where he was because of nepotism? Fred Thompson started out as a largely unremarkable guy who lucked out and married into the right family. Do we really need some mediocre-at-best schmuck whose only appeal is his television presence? If people vote for him based on his performance on Law and Order (kinda like how people voted for Bush based on how he would fare as a drinking buddy) America is *****.
- SheilaNoya, on 11/01/2007, -0/+8He didn't say he prosecuted "several" major crimes. He claimed he was tough on criminals and prosecuted "Tennessee's most major crimes" and tried to portray himself as some kind of hero to law enforcement officials.
- sonaboy, on 11/01/2007, -0/+8He's also connected to Rev. Fred Phelps of the "God Hates Fags" church, and agreed to represent them in a "free speech" lawsuit. They had lots to talk about...
http://www.cjonline.com/stories/101807/loc_2094593 ... - inactive, on 11/01/2007, -0/+8Ronald Reagan was a piece of *****.
- SheilaNoya, on 10/30/2007, -0/+7Fred Thompson is the one who claimed he was a tough prosecutor who handled Tennessee's "most serious crimes". No one has a problem with the fact that he only handled routine rookie stuff - We have a problem with the way he lied about it to try and sound much more important than he was.
- SheilaNoya, on 11/01/2007, -0/+7Thompson doesn't even "act" like he is interested in this campaign. He shows up every couple of weeks in his Gucci loafers and says a few carefully selected words like "Freedom" or "Democracy". Sometimes he even tosses in a zinger like "I'm a regular guy, just like you" as his poses for his photo-op in his rented pickup truck. After that, he disappears again and goes back on vacation. I never watched Law & Order, but if this is any inkling of his acting skills, then I'd say it's time to turn in his SAG card.
- dertykevin, on 10/30/2007, -4/+11"Hell, I made whiskey and was violating the law, but I didn't do nothing wrong," said one of Thompson's many moonshining defendants, Kenneth Whitehead.
So Thompson sticks up for people who have to make their own alcohol because they can't afford it, but he can't promise to stop the DEA from raiding medical marijuana patients?
I hope the young voters actually do get out and vote this election...I cannot stand the Republican's way of thinking. - ChimpFlix, on 10/30/2007, -6/+13You'd rather trust unverifiable online sources? Don't be an idiot.
- lordmike, on 11/01/2007, -1/+7Talking dirty on the CB radio is a crime? I guess that makes sense... But, I didn't think anyone cared! What's the penalty?
- freezeout, on 10/30/2007, -0/+6Thompson - tough on dirty talk, tough on TERRA
- glui2001, on 11/01/2007, -0/+6Git 'em Flash! LOL!
- kaelyiesta, on 10/30/2007, -1/+7Despite the articles insistence that Fred was nice and gentle, he largely prosecuted people that harmed no one. The implied point being that he isn't in fact very nice. I hope that made it easier to read.
- Damian91, on 10/30/2007, -0/+5You're done Fred, back to Bedrock.
- sockpuppets, on 10/30/2007, -2/+7Unless you're talking about him on a C.B., in which case it's totally hot.
- zanzzz, on 10/30/2007, -0/+5I think he is talking out of the Reagan play book. Reagan repeatedly told war stories he allegedly was involved in yet he spent the war on a Hollywood set making movies.
- nicholai, on 10/30/2007, -1/+6I agree, it's like trying to compare crimes like rape and murder to moonshine and drug use.
- AllYourBase3, on 10/30/2007, -3/+7like a ron paul hit piece would ever make it to the front page with the ron paul crew burying anything that could come up
- bjornski, on 10/30/2007, -0/+4Reagan was absolute scum.
- tekz0r, on 10/30/2007, -3/+7And the douchebaggery continues..
- yodaj007, on 10/30/2007, -2/+6My brain is having a hard time parsing your comment.
- dmadzak, on 10/30/2007, -0/+4Of course he was lying, unless he handled cases about people illegally downloading movies and songs there is no way he handled the most serious crimes.
- ChaosMotor, on 10/30/2007, -0/+4Wait a minute, someone who's been caught lying repeatedly in the past is likely to have lied about other things previously undiscovered? Well I'll be!
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -1/+5Fred Thompson is an actor......... nuff said.
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -0/+4Stephen Colbert
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -2/+6Pathetic.
- toxicityj, on 10/30/2007, -1/+5as supreme admiral of the ron paul crew fleet, I hereby digg you up for making our existence known.
- mwalker05, on 11/05/2007, -2/+5whats the difference between "several major crimes" and what he is on the record for prosecuting? and how can you say that those weren't the major ones unless you show a list of all the horrible crimes that he would have been able to prosecute for in comparison. you people need to learn to think about what is being said, instead of swallowing whatever they spoon feed you.
- mrurc, on 10/30/2007, -1/+4Saying that he prosecuted "just about all of the major crimes" when he prosecuted moonshining, police corruption related to moonshining, and talking dirty on a CB is a lie. Prosecuting "just about all of the major crimes" would include murder, rape, felony assault, felony theft, kidnapping, drug trafficking, and arson. If he didn't prosecute ANY of those, then it is a lie because it says "just about all." If it said "some" then you would have a case it being subjective.
- DRINKxREDxBULL, on 10/30/2007, -5/+8"The population in general bought the whiskey, and they kind of sided with the bootleggers philosophically. But Fred believed in what he was doing. . . . He fought."
Great, Fred is statist. IF this article is accurate, he let countless real crimes (the kind with vicitms) like fraud, counterfeiters, and check thieves get of because of incompetence, yet went after people making booze in their back yard. - technoredneck, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3Bahahaha, I say just let Fred Phelps have his 'free speech'. Everything he says makes me laugh anyway, and it serves as sufficient entertainment till the day he gets caught with a male escort.
- alvinrod, on 10/30/2007, -8/+11It would be kind of nice if moonshining was about as serious as crime got in this country, but instead we have rapists, murders, Enron-type crap, and other such things that really make you lose some faith in humanity.
- carpespasm, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3please show me something bad about him. If I'm going to support the man I really do want to know any dirty stuff he may have had going on in his political history.
So far though it seems like the worst he may have had would be sticking to strict constitutionality mentality a bit more than I prefer. That said he's still got a voting record that completely coincides with what he claims to stand for. Can't fault him on that a lick. - nicholai, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3Wouldn't shock me, neocons hate everything that can't be taxed.
- nicholai, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3Ronald Regan increased spending on the sadistic joke known as the "war on drugs" for his own personal gain. He is burning in hell as I type this, I can't wait for every neocon to join him.
- mrurc, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3Man, you walked right into that one. Could you be a little less predictable?
- NeverReturnKid, on 11/01/2007, -0/+3I had this actually happen to a friend of mine once.
- nicholai, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3I think Thompson supports punishing people for cannabis and moonshine, making him total scum.
