- brucealmighty, on 04/10/2009, -15/+2256 months to finalize an election is ridiculous and unconscionable. Among other things MN should be embarrassed that even in Iraq the elections have been better managed.
- paintgrl, on 04/10/2009, -19/+184Norm Coleman knows he lost. the Republicans are now playing the lets keep the Filibuster edge in the Senate game. It makes me mad that this farce is legal, Frankin should take his seat already.
- kingofinternet, on 04/10/2009, -11/+132It's quite simple:
1. It was an automatic recount according to Minnesota law.
2. Franken won the recount.
3. Coleman is trying to get the courts to obstruct Franken's win.
It'll be a sweet day when Franken gets seated. - inactive, on 04/10/2009, -25/+123Goto http://www.giveitupnorm.com/ and let old norm know how you feel!
- birdly, on 04/10/2009, -9/+89"If it were me? I'd bow out and save the people of Minnesota some tax dollars." - Norm Coleman on the prospect of a recount after declaring himself the winner.
I love the fact that this slim margin is being scrutinized honestly and fairly. And I'm going to love having Franken as my next Senator. - inactive, on 04/10/2009, -12/+91I wish Paul Wellstone was still the senator from MN.
- dissolutionman, on 04/10/2009, -11/+70Coleman's done. Even if he won his lawsuits concerning "duplicate ballots," he'd still lose. And if the court somehow decides to open more of the rejected absentees, they'd likely favor Franken. All the previous counts have.
Give it up, Norm. It's over now. Just give Minnesota its second senator and run again next time. - sidewinderaim9x, on 04/10/2009, -21/+63Franken didn't just win. He won months ago when the state certified the election.
- inactive, on 04/10/2009, -22/+59Proof that republicans need soul-searching. Totally on the wrong side of history. This guy lost fair and square yet he's still fighting. John McCain needs to teach this Coleman guy a lesson in reality.
- mavGuy, on 04/10/2009, -4/+41The funniest(or saddest) part is coleman initially stated Franken should drop out so the race wouldn't drag on. Silly man coleman. Take your own advice. Let us heal, and move on.
- inactive, on 04/10/2009, -11/+47And it's because he's good enough, he's smart enough, and doggone it... people like him!
- jiggawatt, on 04/10/2009, -7/+42Minnesota should also be embarrassed to have a congressional rep by the name of Michele Bachmann
- skuzzed, on 04/10/2009, -3/+32Good copy and paste, kid. Now, ***** off.
- brassrocket, on 04/10/2009, -7/+35It ain't over until the funny man is seated.
- birdly, on 04/10/2009, -6/+34Coleman = hypocrite.
http://www.new.facebook.com/ext/share.php?sid=4259 ... - Exhibitionist, on 04/10/2009, -1/+28Wouldn't it be awesome if US senators could only serve two terms before being given the boot?
- kingofinternet, on 04/10/2009, -1/+27Ah the uninformed Republican, read this:
http://www.minnpost.com/davidbrauer/2008/11/12/456 ... - gridbread, on 04/10/2009, -7/+33I love that every word of Franken's success is very likely making Bill O'Reilly crap his pants with anger.
- 12D3, on 04/10/2009, -4/+27Their term will be over by the time this is sorted out.
"You won, now get on the campaign trail we got elections in a week!" - jeffbw, on 04/10/2009, -2/+25It's been over for a long time. The whole idea is to impede Obama's agenda.
- boomqweeshaa, on 04/11/2009, -1/+24Meanwhile in Minnesota we would like to have representation in the Senate.
- Bulletbillx, on 04/10/2009, -1/+24I agree except for the part about running again. He should never run for public office again after being this pathetic.
- jeffbw, on 04/10/2009, -8/+30Gore didn't lose Florida, chucklehead.
- TheLoneWolf071, on 04/10/2009, -6/+28It's funny because when he was "Winning" Coleman said(I can't find the exact source) That Franken should simply concede... but now that he's "Losing" he's fighting tooth and nail.
- inactive, on 04/10/2009, -3/+25Although I do not like the outcome, meaning that Franken may be the victor, this decision should never have taken this long in a country that is not a "third world country". The USA should have better methods, control, etc. for determining the accurate and proper outcome to elections, even if cheating has occurred or should I say, ESPECIALLY if & when cheating has occurred! There should be implementations in action to assure all of us accurate election in this country, whether we like the outcome or not! And there should be excellent backup procedures for double checking an election in less than a 3 day maximum time frame. This must be stopped for the future generations. BTW, I am a Proud Republican and cannot stomach Al Franken...never have been able to since he first came on to the scene as a comedian, but then I already know that I am a nice person and "gosh darn it, everybody likes me." LOL Have a great day!
- SolitaireRose, on 04/10/2009, -6/+27Shhh....if it gets out that Franken won, Glenn Beck will pour gas on more workers at Fox News.
- morcheeba, on 04/10/2009, -1/+22Justice delayed is justice denied.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justice_delayed_is_ju ... - jeffbw, on 04/10/2009, -5/+25Baloney. The Coleman campaign irresponsibly challenged huge numbers of voters on election day specifically so it would appear he was in the 'lead'. Much of this process has be a matter of throwing his ridiculous challenges out.
- bowens44, on 04/10/2009, -2/+21Franken didn't lose the count. When the votes were counted , Franken won.
- leontes, on 04/10/2009, -1/+20disable it.
My Profile -> Settings -> Viewing Preferences -> Show Diggbar? - Jericho6, on 04/10/2009, -5/+24Given how transparent everything in this election has been, I'm still amazed people can make claims about Franken "stealing" it. I guess he stole it with all the TV cameras rolling during the recount, I guess he stole during a seven week trial when Coleman basically produced no evidence of any fraud, I guess he stole it as national journalists had months to investigate any potential claims.
Next stop, New York's 20th recount. That one's been ping-ponging between Tedisco and Murphy leading. - birdly, on 04/10/2009, -0/+18Source?
- SolitaireRose, on 04/10/2009, -0/+18They did that. And Norm has been suing ever since.
- inactive, on 04/10/2009, -5/+22For all the bitching and moaning from the Republicans, they seem to forget that in 2000, when things were in their favor, there was absolutely none of this dragging ***** out until eternity. Yeah, they like to point out how much the Dems whined, but they ignore the fact that the whining did not result in any ***** like this.
- XBSHX, on 04/10/2009, -1/+17Because Coleman keeps challenging every single thing he can think of.
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -0/+16We like him more than Coleman, apparently.
- jynweythek, on 04/10/2009, -3/+19also coleman is dragging it out and making a fuss to discredit the winner (franken) so he will lose the next election
- birdly, on 04/10/2009, -1/+16Just because Coleman called a few random votes into question doesn't mean they are legitimately disputable.
- netant, on 04/11/2009, -0/+15Minnesota, the state, has NOTHING to be embarrassed about. Its a case where the winning margin of votes falls below the range of error in tallying counts.
This is also not an unheard of political event. All state constitutions have foreseen the possibility of a close election, and have mechanisms in place to determine a winner in a TIMELY manner. But back then, politicians were more gracious, and understood they had an obligation not to SCREW over their constituents with tiresome legal entreaties. The days of Nixon conceding elections are over.
Yet, gee, for some odd reason Normie thinks he can still win while being behind 300+ votes, by making up new election procedure on legal pretexts, rather than abiding by the election results. I think its very simple. MN voters, particularly those who voted for Coleman, should crucify him in any future run for any political office, because Coleman insists on reducing MN's representation in Federal gov't to ONE senator. That is the ONLY thing Normie can accomplish by extending legal challenges to the election. - moxley, on 04/11/2009, -7/+22People need to understand that it isn't just Coleman trying to obstruct Franken.
Al Franken is an extremely smart man who I think would truly be a good, honest representative. The powers that be consider him a rabble rouser and a subversive and will do anything to keep him out of the senate. They don't want someone like this ruining their party.
I met him at the shadow convention in 2000 in Philadelphia, and at the time had hoped he could run for something important and win - I just hope once he does get seated he's very careful when catching flights home. I don't want him to end up like Wellstone.
(BTW Coleman is a piece of *****). - Rystic, on 04/10/2009, -0/+15There's just... something about someone misspelling 'buffoon' that puts a smile on my face and a song in my heart.
- kingofinternet, on 04/10/2009, -4/+18Source?
You know it was debunked.
http://www.minnpost.com/davidbrauer/2008/11/12/456 ... - Dipsomaniac, on 04/11/2009, -3/+17That's an interesting interpretation of 'sour grapes'. I mean, winning an election and expecting to take the office to which you were elected? Audacious, isn't it?
- takamalak, on 04/11/2009, -4/+18Sounds like someone's on the rag!
- SocialPoison, on 04/10/2009, -1/+15...margin of error being around 5%
Is that from the Associated Pullitoutofyourass Department of Statistics? - sonicpentatonic, on 04/11/2009, -1/+14Skywise: Franken's message has never changed. He has since the election maintained that every legally cast ballot should be counted.
Norm Coleman is the epitome of a politician only out for his own gain. He was elected Mayor of Saint Paul as a Democrat, and then the Republican revitalization of the mid-1990s came about, at which point he switched parties to take advantage of the upward swing of the Republican party and hopefully ride their growing popularity to greater success. He then was elected senator as a Republican, and was a strong supporter of GWB until his popularity plummetted, at which point he began to distance himself from anything related to GWB (although I guess he can't be held too responsible for this since most Republicans did this to some degree in the waning years of GWB's term).
He then whined and discouraged Franken from going forward with the recount (which, by the way, was automatically triggered by MN laws since the vote was within 0.5%) by claiming it would be too long, expensive, and arduous a process to put the taxpayers through. He then fought against having any rejected absentee ballots considered (even those wrongly rejected) while he was still ahead in the count. However, once he fell behind in the count, no ballot, no matter how clearly illegal it was, was to be left uncounted, except those from highly democratic districts like some in Hennepin County.
Then, after bitching and moaning about needing more ballots reconsidered (submitting several thousand ballot challenges, many of which were rightfully rejected ballots according to the laws of the state), and finally getting 400 ballots counted that both campaigns agreed should be recounted, he coyly suggested that he was not adverse to challenging his case all the way up to the US Supreme Court, thus prolonging the election for likely several MORE months.
At least Franken, even if he was annoyingly persistent about it, has been consistent in saying every legally cast ballot should be counted. Coleman keeps going back on his "principles" and "promises" whenever it may be most beneficial to advancing his career and political standing.
For the record, I regret having voted for either candidate now. I should have voted Barkley.

P.S. I did my part to try to oust the anti-Christ (a.k.a. Michelle Bachmann) from the US HOR. I'm sorry she is still there. - Aroundtown27, on 04/10/2009, -1/+14Why does small margins qualify as an excuse for taking 6 months to count ballots?
- Amlethus, on 04/10/2009, -13/+26There are so many long, well-thought-out comments on here, so I'm going to write a tl;dr: for everyone:
Republicans are sore losers.
(Before everyone goes and starts shouting about Gore or Kerry, they knew when to let go) - Lightning750, on 04/11/2009, -5/+18I live in Minnesota and I tired of all this senate race nonsense!!! Coleman is just going to continue in his futile efforts and rob minnesota of half it's influence in the senate!!! Doesn't he realize that most minnesotans are tired with him by now and even if he did turn it around the amount of patience with him would be about ZERO.
- AgeofMastery, on 04/10/2009, -0/+13He's being just as pathetic how? By winning?
