- bluevillage, on 08/19/2008, -8/+50I saw that part of his speech. I was shocked at his new spin. Just as he's now saying "Both candidates will end the war and bring our troops home. The difference is that I will win it first." Trying to steal Obama's strongest point. Watch for more of this tactic from his new speechwriters.
- pintomp3, on 08/20/2008, -5/+34it's amazing the GOP double-talk is so effective. mccain opposed the bill and said it was "too generous". now he is taking credit for it.
- treehugger87, on 08/20/2008, -5/+33I guess McCain voted against the GI bill before he was for it ;)
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -9/+33Fox lies?! What a huge surprise!
- katagana, on 08/20/2008, -6/+29Another McCain Flipflop, McCain is the true flipflopper in this campaign.
- Ragingcnu, on 08/20/2008, -3/+26Campaign Carl. This was the ***** at the Republican debates..."Congressman Paul, on the issue of electability.. do you have any?"
Not a decent bone in his body, this is not a surprise. - chrissku, on 08/20/2008, -6/+28I would love to see everyone at Fox News out of business. ***** Fox News. Bunch of ***** idiots.
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -5/+26Oh yes, I want a president who assumes he knows when life begins.
- TrueXtremeIcon, on 08/20/2008, -1/+21They cater to the lowest common denominator. If the majority of people watching the news are ignorant, appealing to the ignorant will get more of the ignorant watching you, therefore higher ratings.
It's not like the ***** ratings are given out on the number of truths being told. - inactive, on 08/20/2008, -5/+24Don't have an actual response to the story do you?
- pintomp3, on 08/20/2008, -2/+20trying to define when life begins is about as easy as defining the meaning of life. anyone who thinks it can be oversimplified and summed up in a talking point or a soundbite has not thought about it long enough.
- johnhummel, on 08/20/2008, -1/+16While I understand and share your frustration with the purely two-party system in the US - this has nothing to do with it.
This has to do with someone being a liar.
McCain said we'd stay in Iraq for 100 years - now its "Oh, I'll bring them home in the same time as Obama - with Victory!"
McCain said we had "won" the war in Iraq in 2003, that we were "winning" in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 - and in late 2007 he announced he was "Bush's biggest critic", and lied again.
McCain opposed the GI bill because it would "encourage service members to leave service early", and proposed his own version that gave support based on members staying in the service. It's a fine argument - but now he is lyiing about his "support for the current GI bill" or how his efforts "made the current GI bill better", when he opposed it, didn't vote for it, and Bush threatened to veto it until the last minute and he realized there was a veto proof majority.
This isn't about the two party system at this point - it's about one candidate being a liar. - daggah, on 08/20/2008, -0/+14You know, being in the military, I was paying attention when the GI Bill was put to the vote. I clearly remember McCain saying he was against it, because he and other neo-cons thought that it would hurt troop retainability. So clearly FOX News *IS* being dishonest here. But I guess they should get a free pass because, what, they're FOX News and you're sick of hearing them being attacked for their dishonesty?
- sunsetprojects, on 08/20/2008, -6/+19FOX news lies?? give me some new news please. Fox news is based on lying.
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -4/+17"What a twist"
- WasabiBomb, on 08/20/2008, -1/+13Considering stories here on Digg are posted by the readers, you've kind of made a nonsensical statement there, wonky.
Digg, despite its weaknesses, is pretty much the "free thought" website. That's pretty much the point.
If you don't want stories that make you uncomfortable, feel free to post the ones you want. Or bury the ones you don't want.
Or, heck, find another site. You'll probably be a lot more comfortable at some right-wing website. - dBass, on 08/19/2008, -6/+18Dubya said so too; so it must be true.
- BrewBeau, on 08/20/2008, -1/+12Their ratings superiority seems to be proportionate to the amount of lip gloss and hair bleach their female "journalists" use.
And if you're an idiot reality tv watching jerk, then which of these headlines sounds more appealing?:
-Obama dispels myths on his religious upbringing
or
-Obama and wife share terrorist fist jab? - inactive, on 08/20/2008, -2/+12@5urr3al5am, you're right. Honesty is a terrible thing for a politician to have. People don't want to hear the truth.
Shame on him for admitting that he isn't qualified to say when life begins. Guess McCain has ultimate knowledge, considering that particular subject has been debated for years on end. - joncarr, on 08/20/2008, -5/+15Give the poor guy a break... I'm sure he can't remember what he had for breakfast, how is he supposed to remember his position on a crucial piece of legislation? Besides, Levin is always calling those damn Committee on Armed Services meetings right in the middle of nap time.
- stubarwick, on 08/20/2008, -2/+11WTF does your comment have to do with this story?
- daggah, on 08/20/2008, -1/+9This is S.O.P. for them. Attack the source or try to brush it under the rug as "just more anti-McCain" ranting.
Unfortunately, neither method works when the criticism is TRUE. - Dumbledorito, on 08/20/2008, -0/+8Why is it that Republicans called such behavior "flip-flopping" and "waffling" back in '04 but are so hot to say it's okay now?
Are YOU flip-flopping? Ask your doctor.
And there's a big difference between negotiating legislation and taking credit for something you voted down. - Pstmann, on 08/20/2008, -3/+10How about submitting a story when Fox actually tells the truth, that would be much more interesting.
- matu4251, on 08/20/2008, -3/+10what a surprise!
- ldw4686, on 08/20/2008, -3/+10it doesn't matter - this GI bill is a ***** joke. My husband served this country for 18 months in Iraq and Kuwait, but no politician or military unit wants to give him money to go to school, which was disrupted by this goddamn war!!!
- markmole, on 08/20/2008, -0/+7Hey, politicians change their mind on subjects all the time. The BIG difference is when they try to rewrite history. Obama voted for FISA, which pissed me off, but at least he's not out there saying he didn't vote for it.
- davdev, on 08/20/2008, -0/+6You do realize that did works as a democracy. If a story gets posted and a large # of people support it, it gets to the front page. If people don't support it, it doesn't. If you don't like how did works, why not create a conservative version. Then it can be the equivalent of converapedia to wikipedia, probably as full of errors as well
http://www.conservapedia.com/Main_Page - WasabiBomb, on 08/20/2008, -2/+8You're a little unclear on how Digg works, aren't you?
Feel free to post one of your own. Go ahead, we'll wait. - wendelgee2, on 08/20/2008, -0/+6Hell, I'll digg that one too.
- aigulf, on 08/20/2008, -3/+9"The good die young, and pricks live forever!"
-Lewis Black - jaybol, on 08/19/2008, -19/+25makimaki submitted this first http://digg.com/politics/Fox_News_Lies_Gives_McCai ...
- temporarysanity, on 08/20/2008, -1/+6so, he voted against before he voted for it.... interesting world we live in.
- FairDinkumMate, on 08/20/2008, -2/+7Source? Evidence?
Maybe a clip of McCain saying "I can't vote for this bill because it has too much pork..."?
Thought not... Do you even understand why nobody believes the crap McCain, the Republicans as whole. Fox news & people like yourselves sprout?
You're really earning your McCain points today! - txtphile, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5That's like saying: "It's so kewl to bash Pravda. Why do they have more readers than the New York Times?"
Get that ***** out of here. - FairDinkumMate, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5You really aren't very bright are you? Did you not notice that the dates wereprinted beside the figures?(or were you just sprouting crap hoping nobody would notice?)
As you are obviously unable to have a discussion on a topic without LYING, I'll leave you with the figures from the polls below WITH DATES:
LA Times/Bloomberg 08/15 - 08/18 1248 RV 45 43 Obama +2
Reuters/Zogby 08/14 - 08/16 1089 LV 41 46 McCain +5
Gallup Tracking 08/17 - 08/19 2658 RV 45 43 Obama +2
Rasmussen Tracking 08/17 - 08/19 3000 LV 47 46 Obama +1
Quinnipiac 08/12 - 08/17 1547 LV 47 42 Obama +5
Battleground 08/10 - 08/14 1000 LV 46 47 McCain +1
IBD/TIPP 08/04 - 08/09 856 RV 43 38 Obama +5 - jellygraph, on 08/20/2008, -2/+6I suspect McCain will be the next president. It seems to be the latest fashion in America to elect presidents who are liars, cheats and will run your economy into the ground.
Or, hopefully, I'm just being a pessimistic, snarky jerk. I hope that's the case and Americans will see through the typical republican lies and distortions and elect Obama. America needs a change for the better. - Dumbledorito, on 08/20/2008, -4/+8If you truly felt this way, "AgainstObama" (and I can't possibly fault the no doubt rational way you came to your conclusion), wouldn't you at least post some links here?
BTW, here's a hint: Post them from some place that isn't just a blog with no credible sources cited or has ads for how-to fitness books by former Navy SEALs. - inactive, on 08/20/2008, -2/+6Blah blah blah, rightard claims, blah blah blah.
Until you learn to back your crap up, you'll never be anything more than a cowardly shill who does poor quality work at best. - inactive, on 08/20/2008, -1/+5If you're going to call someone an idiot, you should make sure you don't sound like one in the process.
- justinx0r, on 08/20/2008, -5/+8He actually did. His other bill he proposed had a sliding scale for benefits so it would provide an incentive to stay in the military. The GI bill Webb proposed did not have one at first and only after McCain (and others, it's not solely him) raised the issue did they add it in the bill. You can look this up yourself and read actual quotes from McCain on what he said about it.
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -0/+3Heaven forbid they try to get an education instead of being stuck as some manual labor grunt.
- normlsparky, on 08/21/2008, -1/+4there is an ***** born every second. unfortunately, only a few die each year. mccain is living proof of this.
- jezsik, on 08/20/2008, -0/+3Well, it's really more of a one-party system; it just so happens that the one party is divided into two factions.
- PimpSetBitch, on 08/20/2008, -1/+4Mccain doesnt know how to use a computer, in this day in age. That seems more naive and more out of touch
- davdev, on 08/20/2008, -1/+4I know the answer ... when your born!!!!!!
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -5/+8Fox “news” is doing pretty damn good job propping John McCain. He is actually up in the polls. Fox “news” puts Joseph Goebbels’s work to shame.
- davdev, on 08/20/2008, -0/+3you mean like Republicans?
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -0/+3Because only poors and dumbs get their news from the boob tube.
