Evidence: The way soccer moms drive SUV's and minivans. - ToastedZergling, on 10/10/2007, -26/+150Wow, and all along I thought Sally Field's speech was going to change the hearts of Americans and send our troops home. *rolls eyes*
Anyone who cares about/watches the Emmy's doesn't want to hear about the harsh reality of the world, that's why they're watching Hollywood pat itself on the back and starts flex their egos. - kdepa, on 10/10/2007, -96/+202Umm... I'm pretty sure you can't say "God-damned" - particularly on a broadcast network - that early on TV. Not a big shocker. Probably just didn't want to be fined by the FCC. Any other broadcast station would have done the same.
- buba69, on 10/10/2007, -45/+139censoring the audio with a simple or audio drop is fine...but censoring an entire sentence and cutting away on video is TOO MUCH!
- otheruser, on 10/10/2007, -37/+130FOX censored "wars in the first place" as well. So not only did they censor the curse, but also the anti-war component of her statement.
THAT is the shocking part. - cyklone, on 10/10/2007, -8/+90wasnt edited in Canada on CTV.
- otheruser, on 10/10/2007, -35/+106You misread the article.
FOX censored "wars in the first place" as well. So not only did they censor the curse, but also the anti-war component of her statement.
THAT is the shocking part. - Jrr6415sun, on 10/10/2007, -8/+61I watched it, and I counted at least 5 times during the night where the speech was censored... I miss when it was on NBC (I'm gonna get dugg down for that.. they may be "greedy" but at least they don't censor the ***** out of things) and the host was Conan O'Brien.
- GaiaAP, on 10/10/2007, -38/+84I'll be damned - aren't they getting just a bit too blatant here?
- grapesofbaath, on 10/10/2007, -29/+72I think we can all agree that it was a retarded thing to say.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -10/+50wait.... people actually watch the emmys? Also every one still got the anti war message who watched. American broadcast is prude tv. This isn't unusual censorship. "If mothers ruled the world" - what a bunch of bull *****.
- dtschwe, on 10/10/2007, -6/+41why not just beep-out "god-damned" if that was the reason?
- sldSquirrel, on 10/10/2007, -15/+43I believe it was after 10, not to mention much worse is said frequently on television. The censorship was a mess, blatant and insulting.
Half-way through I started watching the canadian channel (where the line wasn't censored). It sucked not being able to watch it in HD, but at least I didn't have to sit through FOX's awful censorship. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -14/+42You can say god-damned on British TV even on the ***** BBC. How the ***** can America, a country where freedom of speech is GUARANTEED in their constitution be less free than my country - a Christian monarchy!?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+28evidence - the way women treat each other
- kotatsu, on 10/10/2007, -17/+43You can't say 'god' damned on US TV? Huh? Why not? Worried about offending all the religious psychos and their stone age beliefs in magic and *****?
- EntropyMan, on 10/10/2007, -6/+31*****. If they have to censor a word, they bleep it. They don't cut away for 7 seconds, cropping a whole 'inconvenient sentence.'
- CrimsonBlur, on 10/10/2007, -12/+33If she had not said "god damned" I'm positive it would not have been censored. Fox isn't the Fox News Channel, did you guys even watch the rest of the broadcast? They spent plenty of time poking fun of the industry and Fox, there was an entire comedy showcase basically dedicated to making fun of Bush and the administration. The only reason they cut her off is because she used a term deemed by the FCC to be too offensive for network television. They even waited until she got the first part of the word out, and I'm sure they had a longer delay than that.
I love Sally Field, but if she would have just said her point without the cursing it would not have been censored and been much more effective. Everyone knows what she said anyway. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -15/+34I like my actors acting, not preaching and politicking.
- charlie55, on 10/10/2007, -8/+25i feel your pain. the emmy awards are very important and tv actors have important opinions that need to be heard.
- brownr21, on 10/10/2007, -6/+23What happened to the standard bleep?
- Richandler, on 10/10/2007, -8/+24Dude the emmy awards is one big giant smugfest who cares is some rich pompous actor givin a stage to acknoledge entertainment gets censored for trying to push political agenda.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -9/+24Fox + Censorship = digg bait
- Lyght, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16Did they do it to Ray Romano as well, because he was cut off mid-sentence for like 15 seconds, and it just showed the theater with no audio.
- TroubleInMind, on 10/10/2007, -14/+29There is nothing unusual about the network censoring political or agenda-driven speeches in these kinds of events. It's been done for 40 fricking years. Dig up Marlon Brando and ask him about the damned Indians.
And Sally Field is an attention whore. - Alex2, on 10/10/2007, -4/+18Canada for FREEDOM!
- pyrotix, on 10/10/2007, -5/+17Been here 3 years now and haven't regretted the move from the US for a minute.
- igyigyigy, on 10/10/2007, -9/+21Didn't they give her a pedestal and a microphone?
- reallydigginit, on 10/10/2007, -13/+24FOX doesn't believe in free speech because they are un-American. But afraid of Sally Field? LMAO... I guess they're cowards too.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -7/+18nreynolds is right, which is why the children of Digg are burying him. EVERY instance where htey cut away from something, they cut away for several seconds longer than they had to. KAtharine Heigl mouths "*****" after she won. They actually cut away jus AFTER she said it. And they cut away for 3-4 seconds. By then she was already well on her way to accept her award. So it was 3-4 seconds after saying "*****". Same with Ray Romano making a joke about Patricia Heaton and Kelsey Grammer. They cut away for a good 10 seconds or so, which for TVis awhole bunch of dead air. They came back in time to hear Ray finishing up with some lame joke about him and Patricia having TV children. When you work in live TV, especially in the Post Nipple-Gate world, you err on the side of caution. And if someone with a lvie microphone swears once, you don't come back until you are damn sure that they are not going to do it again.
- artwork, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14Why don't celebrities and activists just stop using profanity when they are making their point? At least then there won't be that obvious excuse to sensor them. Lets just stop unnecessary profanity in general. People will still pay attention to you as long as you have something meaningful to say.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12How dumb are you? this has absolutely NOTHING to do with Fox News.
- RollFizzlebeef, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12Unless they're Ronald Reagan, Fred Thompson, or Arnold Schwarzenegger. Then it's fine.
- annonimality, on 10/10/2007, -6/+16Someone speaking out against the war in Iraq will get them fined? I don't think so.
- simd, on 10/10/2007, -6/+15Thank God for Fox, otherwise the children of America might learn about the word "*****".
- Fhwqhgads, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11OH NOES! The end of the world is near!
- jgrossma, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10So you would have advocated them censoring a pro-war comment too, right?
- RuffRidr, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11Sure you will Internet tough guy.
- Logicexe, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9"America is not at war.
The Marine Corps is at war.
America is at the mall." - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -7/+15They did it to anything that was not in the spirit of a ***** AWARDS SHOW! As they should have. And it was not just politics. They did it when Ray Romano said something about Patricia Heaton on Kelsey Grammer's new show, and htey even did it when you could see Katharine Heigl say "Holy *****" when she won.
- Tenlow, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9My bad, I thought it was broadcast on FOX not on FCC. I dont even think i get the FCC channel.
- jasonj75, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Don't bitch at Fox...This is the threat of FCC fines talking.
- blitzer, on 10/10/2007, -10/+17I wish actors would quit using award shows to showcase their political views. Just take the damn trophy and get off the stage.
If you care so much, do a television interview or write a book.. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9It wasn't even Fox News.
- MewTwo, on 10/10/2007, -5/+12No, YOU'RE missing the point. I watched the emmys and every time someone said a bad word they did the same thing. So if anybody believes that the people editing the emmys had a political agenda then they have no idea what they are talking about.
- catullus, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11yeah... "every event is getting ruined by politics"...because there aren't like, any events going on in Iraq or anything that are more important than your entertainment shows
- inferno10, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9"One of these days, Alice, one of these days --- I'm gonna stimulate the economy by buying an American car."
