- inactive, on 08/27/2008, -7/+99THANK GOD FOR JOHN STEWART!!!!!!!!
How ironic that Americans have to watch a Comedy channel to get the news.
"a recent study by the University of Pennsylvania's National Annenberg Election Survey, which said young viewers of "The Daily Show" were more likely to answer questions about politics correctly than those who don't."
http://www.freepress.net/news/4765
”Viewers of Jon Stewart's show are more likely to have completed four years of college than people who watch "The O'Reilly Factor,"
according to Nielsen Media Research.

Also, funny that after Jon Stewart appeared on Crossfire and outed them for not really being a debate show but just another right-wing extremist circus that is destroying American, CNN cancelled the show.
Thanks for that Jon.

- teamgwho, on 08/26/2008, -6/+65I so want to read a transcript. or see a video. His 7 minute interviews are often more insightful and interesting then the ones conducted by the MSM. He also doesn't hestitate to go for the followup when a question is avoided or a BS answer is given. I would love to hear him speak off the cuff at length about that which he mocks nightly.
- inactive, on 08/27/2008, -6/+62Remember the Foley Pedo scandal?!
Then remember when the idiots at FOX fake "news" actually brought up Bill Clinton and Monica?!
THE SICK ***** ACTUALLY COMPARED A CONSENTING ADULT WOMAN to ass raping a child of the same sex?
Talk about taking a break from reality, Cons take the prize!
Which is why they should never be allowed anywhere near the seat of Gov't or anywhere near our CHILDREN!!!
These psychopaths belong in the Looney bin! - robystar, on 08/26/2008, -7/+54Cowards! At least stand up for your lies if nothing else. The guy's a talk show host on Comedy Central and they're supposed to be a powerful news organization. Are they afraid more of their field agents will be battered during live coverage? ***** cowards.
- Shirleycakes, on 08/27/2008, -4/+45...wait, the retort is that Oscar ratings were down? They're serious?
- gatewaydrug, on 08/27/2008, -5/+43This is exactly the kind of ***** Stewart was talking about. Was there a need to give this "source" anonymity? No, but because he and the network can hide behind it, they can take the free pot shot at the comedian who apparently understands how journalism should work.
- 0Xonox0, on 08/27/2008, -4/+37"“Jon’s clearly out of touch,” citing a Pew Research Center study showing the network has the most balanced audience in cable news, 39 percent Republicans and 33 percent Democrats."
Even if that statistic was correct, it would prove nothing (except that only 39% of FOX viewers actually buy their *****), just because viewership is balanced doesn't mean the content is balanced. That would be like me saying the Onion was a credible news source because 52% of its readers are up to date on current events. - PhilLesh69, on 08/27/2008, -1/+29You do remember how he singlehandedly destroyed CNN's Crossfire, don't you?
He went on that show, then three months later, they abruptly took Crossfire off the air.
I even remember when Crossfire started airing in the Lisner Auditorium in 2000 or 2001, a few blocks down PA ave when I was working at Kiplinger, and all the liberal editors clamored for tickets to be in the audience. I laughed at them. They thought it was great to have "debates" between the left and the right, and I said "dude, this isn't a debate, this is division." They were still in the realm of left-right politics.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFQFB5YpDZE (it's 14 minutes long, but you should watch it, it is entertaining, funny and informative.)
Cancellation
As a direct result of Stewart's criticism [3], in January 2005 CNN announced that it would not be renewing Carlson's contract. In a news release containing the announcement, CNN CEO Jonathan Klein indicated that he wanted to change the tone of shows on the network. Shortly thereafter it was announced that it would be cancelled as a freestanding series, possibly to become a shorter, "gentler," segment of Inside Politics [4]. Its last episode aired on June 3, 2005 and the Crossfire pundits began appearing on Inside Politics the following Monday before relocating to that show's successor, The Situation Room. However, the GWU Crossfire set remained in use for the CNN weekend series On The Story, which had an audience interaction format.
On hearing the news of Crossfire's cancellation, on his own show Jon Stewart quipped "I fought the law, and the law lost!"[5]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossfire_(TV_series) ... - hawkeye17, on 08/26/2008, -14/+41Who's working at Fox News? A bunch of 10 year olds??
- wwwonka, on 08/27/2008, -4/+28You know, I always like to give things a neutral view till I judge for myself. After Hillary's speech tonight, which I thought was just incredible, I flipped back and forth immediately between Fox News and MSNBC.
While MSNBC seemed to praise Mrs. Clinton, they also had some obvious points to ponder. WHILE over at Fox News they pretty much slammed the speech and gave it poor reviews down the line. One their "analysts" Bill Kristol was so negative i couldn't even believe he watched the same speech as the rest of us. It was the final straw for me in realizing Fox "News" is a sham. A disgrace upon the media institute of a free speech society. - yillip, on 08/27/2008, -1/+23Their comeback: John Stewart is "out of touch."
I love how they use a purely rhetorical and political phrase -- one that really has no substance behind it -- to refute a relevant attack by an informed political satirist. Ineffectual to say the least. - virtualonliner, on 08/27/2008, -4/+25"...Pew Research Center study showing the network has the most balanced audience in cable news, 39 percent Republicans and 33 percent Democrats."
Does it ever occur to them that lot of those audience, might be watching Fox News for fun? Call me strange or sadistic or whatever else, sometimes I get a lot of laughs watching Fox news, especially Papa Bear and Hannity. - maurin, on 08/27/2008, -4/+24.... this from the people that gave us and defended the "terrorist fist jab" laugh back in June.
And Republican or Democrat, how does anyone make the conscious choice to get their news from Fox? Damn them and their strangle-hold on The Simpsons - bdc83, on 08/27/2008, -1/+20Because obviously it has nothing to do with the writers' strike debacle this year. Or the fact that people are sick of watching hours-long awards shows, and their ratings have been sliding for years. No, it must have been because Jon Stewart is "out of touch with mainstream America."
I don't care which side of the political spectrum it comes from, that's just asinine. - Apokalyps2547, on 08/27/2008, -4/+23Nah, most 10-yr-olds I know have more guts.
- GhostyBoy, on 08/27/2008, -6/+25Man, I *****' hate neocons.
- bdc83, on 08/27/2008, -2/+21Kiiiinda proves his point, doesn't it?
- JohnHSmith, on 08/27/2008, -5/+24Just like a chihuahua. Always tough and mean.. from behind the couch. F@!#$ You Fox News!
- davidbeile, on 08/27/2008, -3/+21Oh Fox News, when will you learn?
- somberlaine, on 08/26/2008, -8/+25Although I am in agreement with most of their positions, I am just tired of seeing them as a source on DIGG. Hey Diggers, please please submit stories from the original source and NOT via a blog.
- WNW3, on 08/27/2008, -4/+19I think we can agree everyone in politics, or in a field related to politics, or who has a lot of contact with politicians is a massive douche
- SquigglyP, on 08/27/2008, -2/+15Look out! I'm about to use some shocking language!
Go ***** yourself. - Vancent, on 08/27/2008, -1/+14Doesn't surprise me. Fox is a station of cowards.
- wwwonka, on 08/27/2008, -1/+13wow, how clever. Now run along little sheep with the rest of your ignorant herd.
bah bah bah - T440, on 08/27/2008, -4/+16"Jon's clearly out of touch," citing a Pew Research Center study showing the network has the most balanced audience in cable news, 39 percent Republicans and 33 percent Democrats. "But being out of touch with mainstream America is nothing new to Jon, as evidenced by the crash-and-burn ratings of this year's Oscars telecast."
Oh no he/she didn't! I love the throw a rock and hide behind something style of fighting.
BTW, anyone else notice that sometimes when you're typing something, the comment box will jump up and down? - mmilton, on 08/27/2008, -2/+12PROOF THAT O'Reilly IS NOT BALANCED... he never has a guest host that is a Democrat. Instead he has Laura Ingraham, who is very bias against Obama or the ex Republican from Indiana. He never has a guest host that openly promotes Obama. Anyone else agree that their is no balance in his selection of the guest hosts?
- Drahkar, on 08/27/2008, -1/+11And I think you need to take a few minutes to consider the massive holes in your theory and then use those holes to crawl into the pretty little world you've painted for yourself because it sure as hell has no resemblance to real life.
First off Fox has never, ever, been a well reasoned. Most of the comments made by their 'TV Personalities' (They are not Journalists or Reporters. Both of those would at least try and be unbiased and merely report the news. Fox's 'TV Personalities' Tell you what you should think.) are biased, from the hip comments are are often reactionary to a situation that makes their opinion look bad or wrong.
Second, The guy was a coward. Plain and simple. He felt all big and tough making the comments but didn't have the balls to stand up and say 'Damn right that's what I think.' I might think that Sean Hannity is a complete douche, but at least he has the balls to stand up to the camera and say what he thinks, letting everyone know that its him doing the thinking.
Third, Obama has been a state Senator for Illinois for 7 years and a member of the US Senate for 3 years. While he hasn't 'Run a Dairy Queen' I'm willing to bet that he would excel at it. He works hard and puts his focus in what he is trying to do. Having a 'Legitimate' news station go into a boxing match with a comedian and sling mud at people -other than the comedian- is just a sign of poos planning and a stupid commenter. Not to mention in general its a bad idea to sling mud at John Stewart right now anyway due to the fact that, (like it or not) he is one of the most respected people int he US today. Its a sad state of affairs when most of the accurate and unbiased news reporting is done on a comedy new show. John Stewart himself has pointed this out and I agree completely. - quib, on 08/27/2008, -3/+13oh man, this is just great material for the Daily Show. I can see it now: Jon Stewart will start reading a bunch of anti-FoxNews quotes, all funny & insulting, and each quote will be signed by an anonymous Daily Show correspondent! LOL. Can't wait what Jon does.
- Stavrosian, on 08/27/2008, -4/+14I'll flick on to it for five minutes every now and then just to get the blood flowing a little through incandescent rage.
- morningmatters, on 08/27/2008, -5/+14Anonymity is okay with me. The problem with many right wingnuts is their tendency to create alternate personas/identities to gather fake support for their silliness. Sockpuppeting and meatpuppeting are two of their favorite tactics with regard to social news media, at least on digg.
- greensky, on 08/27/2008, -0/+8That's one of my favorite games. Make up horrible lies about whomever just spoke and see if Fox News is saying them when I flip over to it. You'd be surprised how many times O'Really gets it right.
- ZenMojo, on 08/27/2008, -1/+9My mom's WAY to the left and she's all for the redistribution of wealth and she knows oil drilling is full of ***** and she has a J.D. and she's black, but she watches Fox News. The quiet truth is that out of all of us Democrats bashing Fox, many of us are probably watching it anyway -- not because we like it, but because we're keeping tabs on the enemy.
This isn't quite the truth with my mom. See, back in the day I used to watch Fox News all day and scream at it every time it provided me with an easily-disprovable instance of false information and lies. She told me to stop and eventually I weaned myself off the dripping teat of stupidity.
Then, surprise, she's watching it. She thinks Shepherd Smith is a good guy (I tend to agree, especially if you saw his Katrina coverage and the boot he broke off in O'Reilly's ass), even though he occasionally becomes a cog in the machine. She likes that Howdy Doody-looking dude. Heck, she even had a brief like-affair with O'Reilly even though she admitted that he was an idiot ("He's a narcissist, not a partisan," she explained).
Which brings me to my point, which I've made before over the years. The fact that CNN has so few Republican viewers says less about CNN (regardless of how ***** it is, which is plenty) than it says about Republicans. Republicans only want to hear news they like, while Democrats have an incredible capacity to wade through ***** to get at information. Hence, Democrats are watching Fox News even if they know most of it is absolute lies. On the other hand, Republicans are ONLY watching Fox News because they're afraid of the outside world. - wwwonka, on 08/27/2008, -1/+9So was Spiderman 3 at the box office in 2007...and that CLEARY sucked.
- Hangly, on 08/27/2008, -1/+9I find that attacking the most popular man on TV is usually a winning strategy. I'm sure it will work wonders for their ratings.
- mentat, on 08/27/2008, -1/+9Wait... you mean the Onion ISN'T the most reliable source of news? How can that be? It's "America's Finest News Source," which must be true, because if it wasn't, they couldn't publish it. Just like Fox's copyrighted "Fair and Balanced" catchphrase.
- ZenMojo, on 08/27/2008, -0/+8If you have to resort to the argument that Jon Stewart, the metronome to the heartbeat of thinking, laughing America, is somehow out of touch ... you lose.
- inactive, on 08/27/2008, -1/+9oscars are down because 1) movies aren't as amazing as they use to be.. 2) the internet
- DFutureIsNow, on 08/27/2008, -2/+10InsHannity, O'Really, Coultergeist, SIngram, RIGH WING COWARDS!!!
- DocCochran, on 08/27/2008, -2/+9Not always achieved, huh? You certainly have a talent for understatement.
- OneLess, on 08/27/2008, -3/+10Gladly! Oh, you meant the article and not you...
- Mononuclear, on 08/27/2008, -0/+7yes it is very annoying.
- enantiodromia, on 08/27/2008, -1/+8things were pretty awesome in the late 90s.
- SquigglyP, on 08/27/2008, -0/+7The oscars didn't do all that well, and they blame that on Stewart? The oscars have fewer viewers every year. Why didn't they compare their daily ratings to the daily ratings of the Daily show? Why not compare apples to apples instead of comparing a 'news' channel to a one-night-a-year event that has been going down in flames for the past five or ten years? After Stewart took over the daily show from Craig Killborn the show has gone from a mediocre news parody show to a highly successful satire show - popular enough for FOX themselves to attempt to glean some of that popularity by trying to copy the show via their "Half hour news hour" steaming pile of garbage. And it failed completely - obviously due to their having their finger right on the jugular pulse of America.
- TheDarkstarter, on 08/27/2008, -0/+7Ok, we're getting off on a tangent here but I so agree with you. These right-wing-loonies always make those kind of comparisons. I've heard right-wingers say garbage like: homosexuality is one step away from pedophilia or beastiality. And I'm like, what?!? you Republican-nut-job. You're the one making that connection, that's your sick twisted cowardly mind thinking about those things and linking those ideas together. Normal, sane people see no relation between the two.
- inactive, on 08/27/2008, -2/+9Fox? Fair and balanced? Mmhmmm sure... You're better off getting your news from The Onion or The National Enquirer.
- pintomp3, on 08/27/2008, -1/+8britney spears is also very popular, that hardly means she is a good singer.
- TheDarkstarter, on 08/27/2008, -1/+8That's so typical of those rightwing-nut job chicken hawks.
