- rcook18, on 11/09/2008, -32/+733 Fox is not really a news media company, so why would it be invited to ask questions at a press conference? Does MTV get invited? Does Comedy Central get invited?
Fox is entertainment media. If they want to become something else, nobody is stopping them. - booksnmore4you, on 11/09/2008, -54/+604As it should be. If FOX brings someone on that is truly fair and balanced, then that person only should have access. Otherwise, they deserve a 100% blackout.
- blqysmg, on 11/09/2008, -43/+407poor babies. If they had not been so openly anti-Obama, perhaps things would have turned out differently.
- obliviousfool, on 11/09/2008, -22/+359Fox has a news channel now?
- pintomp3, on 11/09/2008, -16/+321Fox reporter: "President Elect Hussein, exactly how much do you hate America?"
- SheilaNoya, on 11/09/2008, -24/+301The people at Fox News will be scratching their butts soon, trying to figure out what to say once they no longer have their daily "talking points" issued by the White House propaganda machine.
It will be interesting to see which side of the deeply fractured Republican party they align themselves with. They must be having internal fights trying to figure out if they should pander to the PNAC NeoCons, the backwoods religious nuts, or the old school fiscal conservatives. If they stick with the latter, they could actually help the Republican party re-brand and rebuild itself. If not, they are just going to continue driving more people away from the Republican party. - Langford, on 11/09/2008, -36/+304Of course FOX wasn't asked, they need news sources to ask questions.
- imjohn, on 11/09/2008, -22/+181They'll get their talking points from the RNC.
- cle2105, on 11/09/2008, -6/+108This isn't censorship at all. Censorship is controlling the information that is released, not controlling who is the one who releases it. Fox News is still free to spin the information however they want, they heard the press conference too. They just weren't afforded the privilege of asking their questions because they haven't demonstrated responsible journalism for the past 8 years. The Daily Show and The Onion weren't allowed to ask Obama questions either; they aren't complaining.
- Berkana, on 11/09/2008, -16/+110To understand why, consider FOX's attacks, blatant bias, and lies about Obama during the campaign:
http://bravenewfilms.org/videos/topic/fox-news
Fox news had no regard for fairness in their journalism on the topic of the presidential campaign; any nugget they could grasp at to smear Obama was broadcast, often without checking the facts. They ought to be ashamed. - ThsGuyRightHere, on 11/09/2008, -24/+117I don't think comparing MSNBC to Fox is accurate. while they have left-leaning commentators, the news that's presented is by and large unslanted IMO. Compare that to Fox whre the ews ticker might as well read "President Bush: Best president of the decade, or best president ever?"
As for the snub, surely it couldn't have had anything to do with the attempted ambush a Fox affiliate tried to pull on Biden in Orlando. Or the "terrorist fist jab" comment. Or Fox and Friends jumping on the "Palin has foreign policy because Alaska is near Russia" angle. Fox made themselves a tool of the Republican party, far more so than MSNBC has leaned towards the dems.
I'm sure if Fox demonstrates a commitment to being less partial then they can probably enjoy some access to the president-elect. Until then, karma's a bitch. - MJG2007, on 11/09/2008, -10/+98As well he should. It was Fox News trying to paint him as un-American and smear him and anyone he ever so much as met.
- NyteStarNyne, on 11/09/2008, -3/+86Before we get our panties in a bunch, there were MANY MORE journalists that didn't get to ask a question. I'm not saying he did or didn't deliberately leave Fox out, but it's not like they were the only ones. This story is even more retarded than the one about the journalists being kicked off the plane, which was also exaggerated.
- betheturtle, on 11/09/2008, -2/+70Obama: "Sir, does your family know what you do for a living?"
- inactive, on 11/09/2008, -17/+82When FOX adds a news department to their programming then they can ask a question.
- NEWNHLISLAME, on 11/09/2008, -13/+73Just watch the short documentary OUT FOXED! Its deplorable what they will do or say for their special interest friends. Fox shouldn't be allowed to put the "NEWS" tag beside their broadcast Logo.
- susan56, on 11/09/2008, -8/+66I have been watching their morning show lately, and Steve Doosey seems to be having a very hard time owning up to reality. As for 'Bill' he seems to be showing his republican bent a lot more. The Fox is being hunted - oh what glee!
- smotpoker, on 11/09/2008, -17/+72@oldhick
MSNBC is not and never has even come close to the proportion of outright unfounded partisan BS vomited by fox news hour after hour all day long.
MSNBC has like 5 half-hour commentator shows last I saw it (our cable was shut off a few months ago) and when those commentators appear in other venues than their shows, they typically end up engaging in legitimate debate with real conservatives about real news/policies.
In contrast, Fox has like 10-15 commentator shows that play at least a good 18-20 hours per day, all of their few "liberal" guests are not really liberal and usually unknown/stupid. Most of what they report has nothing whatsoever to do with substance or policy. They cannot really debate a policy because they refuse to even acknowledge what the policy actually is half of the time. If it is a democrat policy, they lie about what it is/means and if it is republican they just blindly support it. They continuously berate and disrespect any guest who opposes Bush/conservatives and cut off their mics/shout before they even have a chance to assert their position/evidence in most cases.
There is a very good reason why MSNBC commentators ridicule them: Fox earns it. All day every day for years, fox earned it and gets exactly what they ***** deserve. MSNBC does have a democrat slant during commentary/conclusions but they are not on their knees sucking partisan ***** all-day-every-day for years and blindly/viciously attacking anyone who doesn't. There is not even a comparison. I would guesstimate Fox's reporting is about 95% biased (omitting very important/relevant details or context, using partisan labels that often irrelevant or inaccurate, outright fabricating intents and positions, actively stopping/attacking any guests who actually do try to present a realistic representation of the facts/positions/story) while MSNBC's is more like 30% biased (typically report both sides of the story fairly, defend the democrat/liberal side more than conservative, allow guests to state their views even if they disagree, show MORE news in general (Fox tries to hide a lot of stuff because it reflects unfavorably on current administration))..
That is my take on it anyway. Fox deserves NO respect whatsoever. It is like comparing weekly world news to usatoday - iguana99, on 11/09/2008, -3/+53The attitude of Fox news towards Obama was clearly moving in a more positive direction as the "winds of change" became increasingly obvious (some of the defenses of Obama, e.g., by Shepard Smith, almost knocked me to the floor I was so surprised).
I bet there's a very interesting internal struggle going on over there right now, with their execs trying to determine if they're better off actually trying to live up to the "fair and balanced" moniker, or if they should entrench and continue pandering to the most ignorant factions of the conservative side... In the end, I'm sure the matter will be decided solely by economic considerations (i.e., which strategy gets the most market share). - inactive, on 11/09/2008, -10/+58FOX_MESSAGE_BOARDS_NOW_OPEN_TO_ALL!!!!!
Just kidding!
Fox doesn't have message boards.
They don't want people discussing things in public.
The truth might slip out. - mikelieman, on 11/09/2008, -4/+49Fox is news like the 700 club is news.
- TunaFishGangsta, on 11/09/2008, -3/+46You'll see even more bitching than normal, for the next four years. They will be critical of everything that Obama does.. beginning with Rahm Emanuel being named the President-elect's Chief of Staff.
They will chip away at his approval ratings, trying their darnedest to pull him down to their level. The problem is that there has already been a meltdown in the GOP. Hence, they are going to be busy attacking each other too. - gaqua, on 11/09/2008, -5/+43They're not claiming to be fair and balanced. They're a liberal blog and are open about that. They're not a news source at all.
- inactive, on 11/09/2008, -2/+40The president also has the freedom of not answering a specific press.
Thousands of news outlets (small ones) are denied access all the time. - ninti, on 11/09/2008, -12/+50"McCain had 74% negative while 14% positive. That is blatant bias"
No, that is telling it like it is. McCain got negative press because he earned negative press.
It's like saying the press is biased because there aren't equal number of positive and negative stories about Charles Manson. - inactive, on 11/09/2008, -6/+43Fox at its finest:
Bill O'Reilly vs Geraldo Rivera
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=RFZB7dKJk5c - 80hd, on 11/09/2008, -5/+42Where do you get this messiah crap from? seriously? Is it that you can't justify hating him for being who he is and have to pretend that people who support him must be lemmings? Shut off your computer and put on Limbaugh or some other neo-con crap.
Look if you don't care for a leader who is rational instead of hotheaded and pliable, that's fine. But quit with this ***** where you try to mis-characterize him.
Fox news has had nothing but contempt for Obama and if they earned his disrespect, too bad for them. - TripinVA, on 11/09/2008, -4/+40Um, he's not been inaugurated yet. He can't do anything official until then.
- Darunium, on 11/09/2008, -1/+37WOAH IRONY
- DangerCollie, on 11/09/2008, -9/+44They should be glad they're getting access to the White House at all. If I had anything to do with it I'd pull their credentials. If they're going to make up news, they can make it up from outside the gate.
- pintomp3, on 11/09/2008, -4/+37fnc has about news as mtv has music.
- Chrysalii, on 11/09/2008, -1/+32Bush is still president.
- inactive, on 11/09/2008, -8/+39F Hannity and Orielly. Both of them are lying sacks of *****.
- leif77, on 11/09/2008, -2/+33Thats either some AWESOME sarcasm, or you're an oblivious fool.
- Berkana, on 11/09/2008, -2/+29They had access for footage, and nobody is restricting their freedom, 'cause they still broadcast their crap. They just weren't invited to ask questions. I'm sure if they're willing to make peace and be honest, things will change.
- deepthot42, on 11/09/2008, -4/+30Free speech does not cover libel and slander.
- inactive, on 11/09/2008, -15/+40FOX should be "snubbed". Its not a news station. It is circa '43 nazi propaganda.
The "Terrists" aren't in Iraq, they are at FOX fake "news".
Only a complete scumbag still listens to opinions from a whacked out drug addict on the radio, or a dildo using pervert and his screeching she-male cohort on FOX.
Now, that is the height of stupidity! - inactive, on 11/09/2008, -3/+28No, if it was "no dissent allowed" they would have been barred from attending at all.
He was just showing good time management letting somebody ask a real question instead of letting Fox ask some ***** question like "How does it feel to be the first socialist president of the United States" - mikelieman, on 11/09/2008, -2/+27"Where do you get this messiah crap from?"
How else can the Fundamentalist Crazies frame it? It's how they think -- It's how they believe everyone else thinks.
That's because they're CRAZY. - ConAmoreEFuoco, on 11/09/2008, -2/+26Well... I think that Jon Stewart should get to ask questions at Presidential press conferences.
- mrsteveman1, on 11/09/2008, -3/+26Since when does HuffPo have a white house press pass?
Nice ***** argument, btw. - mrsteveman1, on 11/09/2008, -5/+28ok dumbass, explain to me how you somehow have a right to ask questions in the white house press room under the first amendment?
I swear the idiots who bitch about free speech the loudest don't even know what it means (see: trainwreck McHockeymom). - inactive, on 11/09/2008, -5/+27Fox & Friends is news?
- bella747, on 11/09/2008, -11/+32Perception is reality and for a lot of people, Fox is a news source, like it or not. My sister lives and dies by Fox. I kid her all the time and she in turn kids me about MSNBC.
The Rep Base all watch it. I stated in another post that we are dealing with Freedom of Press here. I hate Fox, but denying any media outlet access is treading on thin ice. By excluding them you are only alienating those who watch it and fueling the dissent that they are feeling. Obama should just take the high road and include them.
That said...I still hate Fox. - seltaeb4, on 11/09/2008, -1/+21And poor Jeff Gannon of "Talon News" didn't get to ask a question, either.
- hiimcliff, on 11/09/2008, -1/+21Read through the comments in that article. I like this one...
"You mean Fox, the channel that called Michelle Obama Barack's "baby momma"? Gee, why would Obama avoid their "reporters"? But seriously, folks, Pres Elect Obama took, what, 10 questions? That means 100s of outlets didn't get a question." - martalli, on 11/09/2008, -1/+21It has only been one press conference. If it's May and they still haven't been called upon to ask a question, this hand wringing and pomposity would be warranted.
- ebolaworld, on 11/09/2008, -10/+29MSNBC is only a part of NBC News, and besides the Prime Time programming, MSNBC is a neutral news channel. Fox News is Right-Wing all day long.
- Tarl, on 11/09/2008, -8/+27Karma's a bitch.
- topgigmedia, on 11/09/2008, -12/+31If it was a Press Conference - why was Fox even there? They aren't "journalists" that report "news" anyway. They are largely a bunch of bigoted, drone hacks that do as they are told from the top - namely Coulter, Bill O and Hannity.
