Murdoch's laughing all the way to the bank at American double standards, and the naivete of people who drive up his ratings and ad revenues. - thebigsix, on 10/15/2009, -9/+474Yes, we are recovering from Bush.
- whatthefu, on 10/15/2009, -9/+343I watch Fox News every day. Anyone who tries to make the distinction between opinion and news shows is full of *****. Except for Sheppard Smith and a few others, the anchors ask loaded questions, invite people from the Heritage Foundation on all the time as experts, bring up Republican talking points to be the "devil's advocate," etc. Even Fox & Friends, a "cheery" morning show which shouldn't be partisan at all, is embarrassing in how biased it is.
- kingnova, on 10/15/2009, -6/+284Charles Gasparino started it in Oct. 08.
"Charles Gasparino, who is described by the New York Post as an "on-air editor at CNBC and author of the forthcoming book The Sellout about the current financial crisis," is one "journalist" propagating this
meme.
Interestingly, Gasparino's article claiming that Wall St. is suffering from the prospects of a Barack Obama election victory was not published on CNBC's Web site, but in the New York Post, a right-wing tabloid that is the American center-piece of Rupert Mudoch's international media empire. Murdoch is a celebrated reactionary, who has given America, since he became an American citizen to own American television stations, Fox News, with its "fair and balanced coverage." [Gasparino has been featured as a talking head on CNBC.]
In an article in the Post called "An Obama Panic? Markets Fear His Policies," Gasparino states, "[W]hile the polls are reflecting Obama's steady hand [on the campaign trail], the markets haven't. In fact, they're getting worse by the day as Obama's lead widens."
Gasparino then details Obama's economic plan, claiming that it is poison for America's market-based financial system and will drive the stock market even lower.
""There's no confidence in Obama's plan," said Fox's Sean Hannity. "The markets respond to data. They have no confidence."
"The stock market is also demonstrating a lack of confidence in the president's big government agenda," said CNN's Lou Dobbs.
Bloodthirsty liberal blog:
"I love the euphemisms employed by the media to disguise the rejection of Obamanomics by the markets. Investors are “anxious”? How about “contemptuous”? Or “disgusted”? Or even “petrified”?
Here's a whole collection of "conservatives" blaming Obama in the video montage

- jtens, on 10/15/2009, -4/+151This is interesting and all but what about Glenn Beck and that girl in 1990? I keep hearing things and I want to know the real story.
- DooM, on 10/15/2009, -4/+131Are you serious..? We could play that game all day:
February 23 - ONE MONTH into Obama's Presidency: Evan Newmark of the Wall Street Journal: "Dear Mr. President,
Unfortunately, it’s true. The stock market doesn’t like you.
Only one month in and investors are giving up. Another 30% haircut would put the Dow at 5000."
March 10: Hannity: "Obama, since he's elected, has tanked the markets." Democratic National Committee financial committee chair Michael Brown replies "Oh, and that's Obama's fault?" Hannity: "THAT'S RIGHT."
March 6: Hannity: "And our headline this Friday night: Welcome to Day Number 46 of 'Obama's Bear Market.' "
March 5: Republican strategist Kate Obenshain said of Obama's policies, "Of course, the markets are in a free-fall, because they recognize what's happening here." Hannity agreed, saying, "[I]t is a reaction."
And I'm not even trying. - eugenetabisco, on 10/15/2009, -6/+116No, because the Democrats are always having to clean up the Republican economic policy failures. It happens in every cycle --
Democrats clean up the mess, people prosper. Republicans spout their "Cut taxes! You've earned it!" mantra during election years. But they only want to cut the taxes of the rich claiming those cuts will trickle down to the peons. Over half the country is too stupid to know this doesn't work. The country goes into debt, tough economic times, the stupid people get mad because they're no longer prospering and they vote in a Democrat to clean up the mess. Cycle starts again.
Jackasses, please listen -- Supply side economics, or whatever the new spin on the same "old white man" plan that the Republicans implement, does not work! Stop believing it! It didn't work for Reagan, it didn't work for either Bush. It is a failure of an economic policy. - undervalued, on 10/15/2009, -3/+104If this wasn't so sad it would be hilarious.

- Ascus, on 10/15/2009, -3/+85I agree with Fox, this is the Bush Recovery, we are recovering from Bush.
- eugenetabisco, on 10/15/2009, -1/+80You can't discount Limbaugh or Hannity when you asked for proof about a conservative. They, and Beck, lead the conservative movement. The entire Republican party bowed at Limbaugh's feet!

Yes. You asked people to name even one conservative who did this. Many examples were given. You responded with "Well, sure, those people did say it, but look at all these conservatives who said this isn't Pres. Obama's fault. Ergo, I am still right even though you disproved my implied assertion." - thebigsix, on 10/15/2009, -2/+43Sigh! Once again, you people just have no regard for facts - Oh my bad, you're Fixed news junkies.
Again, as I recall, this bail out crap started with the Bush administration saying we needed to loan the Treasuary $700 Billion dollars and don't ask any questions about where the money is going.
I also recall the Bush administration dropping the ball on the war on terrorism by taking it's eye off the real target in Afgahnastan and focusing on Iraq. Had we put the focus where it should have been, this guy could have gone down as having accomplished one of the greatest feats ever. But no, he had to go and settle a score for his old man who left the job undone in the first Gulf war when we could have taken Sadamm out in 1991.
That's what our children and grandchildren will be recovering from! - thebigsix, on 10/15/2009, -2/+43As I recall, the whole financial mess was started by that genious Phil Gramm, Republican from my state of Texas and the bankers on Wall Street and to some extent president Clinton. So get your facts straight.

- Jordan117, on 10/15/2009, -1/+41Because he and the GOP spent billions on tax cuts, wars, and entitlements when times were good, even though experience shows that you should be frugal during prosperity and increase spend heavily only to get the country out of a recession?
- ThsGuyRightHere, on 10/15/2009, -8/+48Too bad TP didn't include a quote or video. When someone says something that ***** up I like to see what the context is.
Looking at it in context it's clear that Cavuto is still going the Bush apologist route, but he's also being semi-sarcastic.
From http://www.businessandmedia.org/articles/2009/2009 ...
-----
“So Jim, the former president saying those are tough choices back then,” Cavuto said. “Critics of these rescues, myself included, didn’t realize how close we were to the edge. He took the bold moves and look where we are a year later. What do you think?”
According to Lacamp, if you’re going to blame Bush for the banking problems, you should give him at least some credit.
“Look Neil, it defies logic that you could blame Bush for the banking problems, the banking system and criticize the bailouts and not give him a little bit of credit right now,” Lacamp said. “Remember, a year ago we had banks that were failing. We had money markets that were on the verge of breaking the $1 barrier, so you had a lot of panicky investors and a lot of people were wiring money out of banks.”
And as Lacamp also explained, it was the Bush administration with a Democratic-controlled Congress that authorized the financial system rescue under TARP.
“You had a stealth run going on – on the banks,” Lacamp continued. “So they had to take very aggressive action very quickly. Now, between TARP and his appointment of Ben Bernanke – and he has dropped interest rates to zero, which has really helped these banks heal, he has helped on the recovery side of the banks.”
But Lacamp explained his disagreement with knee-jerk reactions to blame or credit political figures, particularly Bush.
“Now, I don’t blame him for the banking problem,” Lacamp continued. “I don’t give him all the credit for the recovery. But you can't blame him for the problem if you're not going to give him some credit for those moves that were made that are helping these banks start to recover.”
And Cavuto added, if they’re going to blame Bush for everything, he should get credit as then as well.
“You're either a goat and will always stay that way or suddenly become a llama,” Cavuto said - awinters, on 10/15/2009, -0/+38Wow flip2trip. Just wow.
Why can't you just have the balls to admit your were wrong. No one hear is exempt from being wrong.
Instead, you try to act as if you didn't ask people to name "one" conservative who blamed the stock market on Obama. Clearly there are more than one.
Your response is to try and change the topic to those that didn't. But that wasn't your original point. What about your original point? - GordonV, on 10/15/2009, -4/+41@ flip2trip:

You guys rock. - BotchaMcCoola, on 10/15/2009, -14/+51Maybe "Bush Recovery" is a good name for it. A fair and real recovery would be if the DJ was at 20,000 where it should have been if that idiot would have done well.
- Bobtorious, on 10/15/2009, -5/+41I'm probably going to get buried to oblivion, but here goes anyways...
Why are people celebrating over the Dow getting back to where it was a year ago? There have been no real production boosts or innovation to drive these "profits" all these businesses are reporting. What we're seeing is bottom lines doing better because businesses are cutting costs, not introducing economic growth. Don't believe me? Look at what has been mentioned earlier in this thread... unemployment is still high, still rising. All we are seeing is an artificial bubble created by pumping money into the system from bailouts, while businesses cut cost and shrink, not grow. - erkokite, on 10/15/2009, -0/+36Destruction of the environment (clean air and water acts, opening national forests to logging).
Destruction of American credibility and respect all over the world.
Destruction of public education (No Child Left Behind, pushing for abstinence-only sex-ed)
A frivolous, very poorly planned and expensive war, coupled with tax cuts.
Disrespect for human rights (Gitmo, Abu Ghraib, waterboarding, etc...).
Disrespect for the constitution (Military Commissions Act, Patriot Act).
Corporate coddling and war profiteering (Blackwater, Halliburton).
Treasonous leakage of intelligence information (outing Valerie Plame).
Obstruction of justice following coverup of investigation of attorney firings (this is why Alberto Gonzales resigned).
Heavy usage of private military contractors in Iraq who harmed the local population as well as well as American troops.
The list goes on. I'm sure others can add plenty. - ShoeSh1ne, on 10/15/2009, -1/+35Someone missed the joked.

Obama is just the one who is being forced to start the actually recovery. So it's easy to see why the burden of such a recovery would be blamed on him by the simple-minded. - Crimeodial, on 10/15/2009, -0/+32Morning Joe is on MSNBC.
- JigoroKano, on 10/15/2009, -23/+55It is interesting to point out that Bush, Obama, McCain if he'd won, and all the (D)'s in the House Banking Committee have pretty much been of one mind on this recovery. The only dissenting opinions came from a slim majority of Republicans.
Nevertheless Bush will get all the ***** and Obama will get all the credit. Much how Carter and Reagan went down.
Don't mistake me for a Bush apologist. I think he was one of the worst presidents ever. But he can't be blamed for either the banking deregulation or the irresponsibility of said banks. - toomanic4u, on 10/15/2009, -1/+30FOX/GOP is just setting up the campaign for whoever runs against Obama in 2012.
- lamiaconfitor, on 10/15/2009, -9/+36This is an obvious response to the socialistic policies of the great George W Bush. He should receive a Nobel peace prize.
