- gunjam, on 11/07/2007, -5/+12I am no fan of Mike Huckabee, who has admitted that he favors the use of a FEDERAL law to ban smoking in the workplace -- not just the Federal workplace, but also in YOUR workplace. He has no more regard for civil liberties than does his fellow Hope, Arkansan, Bill Clinton, or his "lovely"(sic) bride, Hillary.
- sbernie, on 11/07/2007, -5/+12The reason that Dr. Paul would not do the things that Janet said is because, he believes that those issues should be left to to the states or the people to deal with. Which is the constitutional approach. When we have government interfering with our daily lives, then the federal government will control every aspect of it and I don't think that Janet would want that. It seems to me that the Constitution is only meant for a religious and a moral people. Government has never, ever been able to coerce moral behavior. That is the mistaken notion that people like Janet have, that government can control behavior. It cannot and will only become the dictator that we should abhor. I believe that Dr. Paul is the best choice to bring back Constitutional sanity to this country and to bring our troops home from around the world to protect our borders and stop the madness of "nation" building that seems to be a program throughout the last 60 years.
- sbernie, on 11/07/2007, -1/+5If it comes down to a Rudy Giuliani/Hillary Clinton race, we will at least get to vote for the best dressed female in the country.......
- tesla921, on 11/09/2007, -1/+4Can anyone say boot licker?
- tesla921, on 11/07/2007, -0/+3Why do you consider Dr. Paul to be a kook?
- bsmarj, on 11/07/2007, -5/+7Janet claims are unfounded. Mr Paul states he is a Christian! http://www.ronpaul2008.com/articles/87/statement-o ... Evolutionist? Not by any means. Honesty! I would start by questioning Janet's. Just throw out comments without basis? Sounds like a lib to me! He has to be the most honest and consistant candidate I have ever known in 53 years. I think if people take the time to see what he is all about, there would be no competition. Ron Paul 2008!!
- AustinMandi, on 11/07/2007, -4/+6Strict constitutionalism is so scary for the majority of people because they cannot conceive in their minds a day without their government instructing them on what to do and how to do it. Orwell's 1984 might seem like a nice and orderly place to you, but I prefer personal liberty and freedom.
Those that say the Ron Paul is archaic and irrelevant are really saying that about the Constitution. But for some reason they always become hostile when I say the same could be said about the bible. - inactive, on 11/07/2007, -1/+3Hello, Big Media? Is that you? You might want to take notice that yesterday Ron Paul just happened to raise a record-breaking $4,200,000 just on internet donations in ONE DAY! Ron Paul is not only supported by people who label themselves as Libertarians. He is supported by an extremely wide variety of people who all appreciate his message of smaller government, lower taxes, and the Constitution as the law of the land. His followers include Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, Christians, atheists, straight people, homosexual people, he has the largest GOP support from blacks, largest support from the military, etc. With 73% of Americans being against the war in Iraq and him being the only candidate unwilling to prolong the war, I'd say he has a great shot at winning. Don't be so quick to count him out - unless you work for the Big Media or CFR or are a Neo-con or if you just hate the Constitution and America in general.
- kgregt, on 11/07/2007, -0/+1So who are you for?
- Whipsnard, on 11/07/2007, -1/+2Mike, America is not at war. The military is at war. 73% of America is at the fricking mall.
- wiseburn, on 11/07/2007, -2/+3Hunter is a big government conservative. He won't upset the status quo on big government spending or vote against the massive Pork. The country is going bankrupt and needs a Doctor to fix it's problems. Hunter and the Huckster want more big government to solve our problems.
- inactive, on 11/07/2007, -2/+3Outstanding! Folger and anyone else who supports Huckabee or Hunter should read that article!
- SamHa1n, on 11/09/2007, -2/+3Isn't the Huskster the guy that compared abortion to the holocaust and said we wouldn't have illegal immigration if we didnt kill so many fetuses? And Dr. Ron Paul is the whacko? haha
Huck who?
Buried, like his campaign's signifigance. - inactive, on 11/07/2007, -1/+2Yes/No questions without a chance to explain their answer! Not all Christians believe the entire Bible was meant to be LITERAL and that the universe was created 6000 years ago in 6 days. Most Christians acknowledge that God gave us the gifts to discern some truth through science and that we know the earth and the universe are a lot older than 6000 years. Have you ever heard of the theory of Intelligent Design? Perhaps Paul, like most Christians does believe that creation evolved over the course of history to some extent but that it was by God's design. I seriously doubt Ron Paul believes in evolution in the sense that atheists do, that God had nothing to do with Creation, but apparently you and Folgers would like to deceive people into believing this so that a bad candidate can get elected instead.
- inactive, on 09/11/2008, -1/+2amen. It's not the man, but the message
- inactive, on 11/09/2007, -5/+5I wish these so called Values Voters actually valued the US Constitution. They only value having someone as president who will use the heavy hand of the government to further their agenda. They are no different than their opposites.
- Whipsnard, on 11/07/2007, -1/+1Don't lump all VV's as to not valuing the Constitution or voting for some freaking elitists for President.
- inactive, on 11/09/2007, -2/+2Abortion is far worse than the Jewish holocaust. Abortion has killed over 10 times as many people. What's worse, it isn't done by the order of an evil dictator. The children are tortured and slaughtered by the order of the childrens' own mothers. "Whacko" is someone who sees nothing wrong with murdering innocent unborn babies.
As for the illegal immigration issue, even if America did have the 40,000,000 citizens today that it slaughtered through abortion instead, the Mexicans would still be just as willing and able to come to America to leach off our socialist government handouts and take jobs away from Americans for less pay. It is not the lack of population that is bringing illegal immigrants into America - it is our broken system and open borders.
"Tax Hike" Mike the Huckster is right for comparing abortion to the holocaust, but wrong on the illegal immigration issue. They don't call Arkansas "little Mexico" for nothing. - inactive, on 11/07/2007, -2/+2Why should anyone support Duncan Hunter when Ron Paul's values are 100 times better because he actually values the Constitution? You want to talk about grassroots support? Duncan Hunter has none. Ron Paul just raised over $4,200,000 YESTERDAY. It baffles me why you would support an inferior candidate with regard to the Constitution and who has minimal support. Perhaps you never gave Ron Paul a fair look.
http://www.ronpaul2008.com/issues/ - inactive, on 11/07/2007, -3/+2With 73% of the American citizens against the war in Iraq, Ron Paul is the only electable Republican candidate. Duncan Hunter would easily lose to Hilary Clinton. Ron Paul is the only candidate who can defeat the Democrats, and he just so happens to be the candidate with by far the most Constitutional values!
- Whipsnard, on 11/09/2007, -2/+1Thank you, Ron Paul, for your detailed answer!
- joesteinbeck, on 11/09/2007, -3/+2Ron Paul an evolutionist? Yes. When they asked the candidates in one of the early debates to raise their hands if they didn't believe in evolution, Huckabee, Brownback, and Tancredo were the only ones who did. That means Ron Paul didn't. That means he believes in evolution. That means he's an evolutionist.
- inactive, on 11/07/2007, -2/+1Libertarians take notice: Ron Paul will not win the Republican nomination. Sorry about that, but that's the truth. After Ron Paul doesn't win the nomination, who are you going to vote for in the general election? I'll bet that only 10% of you will vote for whomever the Republicans do nominate.
- johannah, on 11/07/2007, -2/+1And I'd like to add that Dr Paul also has a great military background. He served five years in the Air Force as a flight surgeon. Also, he is not against wars that are just. He does insist that Congress declare if/when it is necessary to enter into war. Ron Paul 08
- inactive, on 11/11/2007, -4/+3NEWSFLASH: The Holy Spirit has not ordained Janet Folger as point-woman for deciding who is the best Candidate for values voters. Voters should not take their marching orders from the Big Media, nor from Janet Folger, or anyone else but themselves! This means they have to do the research themselves on each candidate to discover the truth for themselves and not decide based on someone else's feel-good commentary. Even a supposedly sincere and well-intentioned Christian like Folger is deceiving others about Ron Paul based on the extremely flawed format of their values voters "debate". The truth is, Ron Paul does share the same values as those values voters, but the debate was set up to extract the "right answers" according to people like Folger's agenda of trampling on the Constitution and continuing the status quo of abuse of Big Federal Government.
Please, look for yourselves at what the candidates say for themselves about how they stand on the issues. Then, most importantly, compare their records to see if they have lived what they are preaching today, or else you may be electing another George Bush in sheep's clothing!
In the end, if you actually do this, I trust you will come to the same conclusion other Ron Paul supporters have: that he not only holds essential Christian values, but also the ONLY candidate that fully supports the Constitution, which is essential for the protection of those Christian values in the first place! See how Ron Paul and his record stands on abortion for yourself: http://www.ronpaul2008.com/issues/life-and-liberty ...
See Ron Paul's explanation about how his stance on war is in line with the Constitution and with the Christian belief of what a "just war" actually is:
http://christians4ronpaul.blogspot.com/2007/11/ron ...
See how he stands on other very important issues: http://www.ronpaul2008.com/issues
Big Government is NOT the answer! Ron Paul is the ONLY candidate who is against Big Government with a record to back it up. Big Government is what has trampled on our rights in the first place. If you want to keep business as usual, then vote for someone like Duncan Hunter or "Tax Hike" Mike Huckabee and watch as they turn out to be the same as George Bush is. If you want a REVOLUTION for positive change and to restore the Constitution, vote for Ron Paul.
Now get off your rears and do some research! Please! - kgregt, on 11/07/2007, -4/+3I agree with most of what's been posted here, particularly chomesoon and nanny's remarks. I'm a conservative and Huckabee scares me perhaps even more than Rudy. She had no valid reason to discard Tancredo, Hunter and Keyes so she just said they cannot win. Many would have said the same about Huckabee a few weeks ago when he was similarly low in the polls. The fact is that no one has voted yet and we should be supporting the BEST candidate and not "someone who can win." You'll never convince me that Rudy, Huck, McCain, etc. are so darling that the general electorate would be dying to vote for them. Hunter actually seems the most electable to me, he's got the military background, a solid conservative record, and is pro US sovereignty. He could even lure some traditional Dem voters since he's against NAFTA.
- chomesoon, on 11/07/2007, -5/+4Yeah but you know what is even more hilarious phenry50BMG? After the "values voters" vote for these "hucksters" they spit in their face and continue the far left liberal agenda. Janet actually believes just as she did with Bush that Huckabee will advance her agenda. He won't. He will spit in her face and tell her to drop dead once he is President.
What she should be concered with is advancing America, look for the candidate best suited for that and then support him. What she does instead is pick a few issues like the Marriage amendment and then insist that America's future can only be advanced through it. Interesting that America has prospered and existed for centuries without it. I support the Marriage Amendment as well but I also know that there are bigger fish to fry then just that pet issue. One is America's sovereignty. That is something Huckabee could care a less about.
Janet, you are making the same mistakes you made in 2000. You also are making the same mistakes that have been made by "values voters" for years. That is, you only care about your pet issues which are abortion and such. You do not care about immigration and the changing of demographics of America. You do not care about all these treaties being passed that advance foreign agendas. You do not care about a North American Union being advanced by men like Huckabee. You do not care that only congress can declare war. You could care a less about the constitution. All you and your ilk care about is that your pet interests are petted. It's disgraceful and for you who calls yourself a Christian to support a no good for nothing bum like Huckabee speaks volumes about your Christian discernment as well. - Whipsnard, on 11/07/2007, -2/+1Say amen somebody!
- Nannybell, on 01/06/2008, -5/+3You are so very correct. And the fact is, candidate Duncan Hunter fulfills all the things you name. He's definitely the man for the job, if conservatives would just recognize that and push him up in the polls via grassroots support (and literal support in the form of campaign contributions). Here is his site: http://www.gohunter08.com/ (I'm not on his payroll. Am just an ordinary citizen who wants to have a real choice to vote for for a change!)
- inactive, on 09/11/2008, -4/+2An Appeal To My Fellow Pastors by Chuck Baldwin
http://www.chuckbaldwinlive.com/c2007/cbarchive_20 ... - inactive, on 11/07/2007, -3/+1Many conservatives HAVE recognized and decided who the best man for the job is and found that it is not Duncan Hunter, but rather Ron Paul. They have provided tremendous grass roots support for him and provided him with record-setting campain fundraising. $4,200,000 in one day. An enormous internet following intended to compensate for his blackballing by the Big Media. Ron Paul supporters want change too. They want to restore the Constitution. They are tired of being ruled by the Big Government elite. They are supporting Ron Paul because they know he is by far the superior candidate to Hunter or Huckabee or anyone else. Please do some research and make sure you're on the right bus. There's still time.
- westnavy, on 11/09/2007, -4/+1Once again Janet you have hit the nail on the head. You have a way of clearing out all of the clutter and getting to the point with great clarity. You don't mince words, you just give the facts, I hope and pray that this article will bring around those who haven't seen the facts laid out so clearly before.
- Nannybell, on 01/06/2008, -7/+3It appears to me that Ms. Folger is admitting that she supports Huckabee because she sees him as having a chance to win, whereas she doesn't see Duncan Hunter as having a chance to win. That's despite the fact that I would find it hard to understand why she would not be MORE in support of Duncan Hunter if she thought he had a chance to win. Hunter has tons more positive points on the Christian conservative scale than Huckabee. However, Duncan Hunter's campaign has this to say about her attitude of "vote for Huck because the others can't win": Nov. 6, 2007 "So many past presidents and nominees were in last place at this point, but managed to pull ahead at the last minute: Ford, Clinton, Truman, Lincoln, Carter, Kerry, and even our very own Ronald Reagan. This thing is very winnable! So mount up and let's kick-in!"
All conservative Christians should be taking a very close look at Duncan Hunter as a candidate. He supports everything we stand for. With contributions to his campaign, he could rise quickly in the polls. No, I am not on the payroll of the Hunter campaign. I am just a conservative Christian voter who has listened to him speak and have read his website where he plainly lays out everything he stands for and intends to do as President. And I see nothing there that I disagree with, and in fact I wholeheartedly support all of it. Here is what he stands for: Marriage between one man and one woman; Pro-life; Pro-America, i.e., missile defense, strong on national sovereignty, wants to bring jobs back to America and stop unfair trade practices by foreign nations; Against amnesty for illegals; Pro-2nd Amendment; Strict constructionist (constitution); Pro-school choice. All of that is right here: http://www.gohunter08.com/ I urge all of you to take a look PLEASE! With grassroots support, he can win the nomination. - youthgrunt, on 11/07/2007, -4/+0Ms. Folger,
I don't necessarily mind your opinion. I disagree with the implication that people who do not buy into the Marriage Amendment or the Life Amendment are necessarily bucking the religious community. It is possible to value life and to value traditional marriage without believing that the right methods to achieve those ends are these amendments. I personally think that pretty much all except Giuliani will be just fine for the religious right in practical terms.
But you are right in pointing out the implications of sitting out the election. But I would continue, that when Huck does not win the primary (which he won't), you still can't hold out! Because whoever the Republicans put up will be better for the religious right than Hillary. (Even Paul, who I consider to be a kook). - mayfly22, on 11/07/2007, -6/+1Duncan Hunter is the right man for the job! He IS ELECTABLE. He CAN WIN! The reason we have so many non-leaders in leadership positions right now in the U.S. is because we've listened to the press tell us that this or that particular candidate is the only one who can beat so and so.
