- orlandogeek, on 10/16/2008, -4/+79What isn't being properly reported is that ACORN turns in ALL voter registration cards, even those that could potentially be invalid. The ones that are questionable have cover sheets attached. This whole thing started when certain areas such as Nevada decided to ignore the cover sheets and take all voter registration cards as potentially legitimate. ACORN representatives have commented publicly that they've tried to explain this to the areas ignoring the cover sheets, but certain people would rather create controversy where there isnt any.
When paying people to organize there are goin to be those involved that cut corners or try and scam the system, but people need to realize there is a drastic difference between voter registration fraud and actual voter fraud. A voter registration card filled out with the name Mickey Mouse or any other obvious fictional name will not lead to an actual vote. - inactive, on 10/15/2008, -5/+74This isn't a surprise. The Republicans have years of experience when it comes to voter suppression or fraud.
- meese, on 10/15/2008, -4/+58I guess Charlie Crist knows that you can lie to some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time.
He's knows what's going on:
http://www.miamiherald.com/news/politics/campaign- ... - inactive, on 10/15/2008, -7/+45I think the republican party is going to have to change their mascot to an anus. I guess that would make them the GOA (grand old anus). Which is pretty fitting considering the candidate they are currently fielding for the office of the POTUS.
- Arishia, on 10/16/2008, -2/+27It's nice to see that some Republicans are finally abandoning this politics of destruction, at least for now.
- sugarazor, on 10/16/2008, -1/+26Funny that Republicans suddenly care about Democracy? Where were you in 2000 and 2004 on the subject? It's kinda like your sudden discovery of sexism with the selection of Sarah Palin...
Things that make you go "hmmmm..." - rz8472, on 10/16/2008, -0/+21If he's referring to ACORN, there isn't any voting fraud going on as far as there aren't any thugs stuffing ballot boxes or threatening people to vote for X or Y. If anyone were to do that it would be Diebold.
What is going on is that ACORN is paying people extra to sign up more voters as an incentive and voter registration fraud is occurring. A few organizers are taking advantage of this incentive system to just put on random fake people so they can get $$$. It's not that ACORN is some shady vote-rigging operation - THEY are being defrauded too when they find that less real people are being registered than previously tallied.
And while voter registration fraud is a huge concern, it isnt going to sway the election since none of those dead or fake people are going to vote unless some shady character decides to take it one step further. - MrSparkle666, on 10/16/2008, -1/+22I lived in Florida the past 20 years and I can honestly say that Charlie Christ is the ONLY Republican I've ever voted for. He's a stand up guy.
- ironhide, on 10/16/2008, -0/+20I didn't see anyone in this thread inviting 'ol Charlie over for a beer.
- algaeturd, on 10/16/2008, -7/+26These people are VILE liars and thieves. They WILL steal this election at this point because they know they can. The best we can do is CATCH them at this point. Everyone needs to be vigilant and republicans need to be watched at all turns.
- sulthernao, on 10/16/2008, -1/+20Where is that 1 fraudulent vote? You should report it, and hopefully that person goes to jail. I think that systematic voter suppression is worse, but that's just me.
- pintomp3, on 10/16/2008, -0/+18meanwhile millions of people are losing their right to vote because of voter purging, voter caging, and voter suppression. why is this issue ignored?
- sugarazor, on 10/16/2008, -0/+17Yes, let's talk about Ohio in 2004 where two election workers were jailed for rigging the recount. Let's talk about the numerous instances of voter suppression, mysterious loss of newly registered voters, long lines caused by voter questioning, voting machines, uncounted provisional ballots, and of course... Ken Blackwell.
2000's voter purging is well documented as well. - heystoopid, on 10/16/2008, -0/+15Since you continue to harp on one point only .
So please explain why the many GOP run counties and states routinely wage extensive voter caging campaigns long after the Federal mandated ninety day before election rule ? - Ukonu, on 10/16/2008, -0/+14Exactly. Thanks for clearing this up.
Voter registration fraud has always been the annoying little bipartisan problem that nobody really cared enough about to address. Anyone who has been to college recently knows that tons of sometimes paid volunteers canvas the campus trying to get people to sign up and register to vote. Some of these people get incentives to get as many signatures as possible. In the end, it's a good thing. Me being approached by many of these people (democrats, republicans, and independents) is the main reason I even registered and got interested in politics.
Unfortunately, but not unexpectedly, many of the volunteers go overboard trying to meet quotas and make up names, repeat names or whatever. They get paid and nobody cares because those names almost never turned into an actual fraudulent vote. But now, all of a sudden, Fox News is acting like ACORN burned the flag and Obama is one of their founding members. It's ridiculous. - inactive, on 10/16/2008, -0/+14Too many 7s, dude...too many 7s.
- fuse13, on 10/16/2008, -1/+13"Always like the Left to distort the truth to serve their bitter hate for other people."
When you are constantly posting anti-liberal screeds to Digg, does the irony of comments like that ever hit you, or are you oblivious?
Sorry, must be off. So busy hating other people I barely have time to post! Bye! - ChromaVita, on 10/16/2008, -2/+13"there are some who sort of enjoy chaos."
The Joker? - FcukAllYall, on 10/16/2008, -2/+13This is yet another example of a Republican who respects what being a REAL Republican is all about and that attacking someone about associations and so on and so forth, is not what we the people want to hear right now. Our Economy is in the "*****" right now with the DOW dropping another several hundred point today, do we really want to hear this William Ayers *****, this ACORN *****, or any other degrading and demoralizing McCain/Palin hate campaign *****...NO!!!!
This man has soooooo many of his own party jumping ship that's it's scary. Ronald Regan would turn over in his grave at this B.S.
I'm an independent and I only vote for those who have the best viable goals and ideas in which to better serve our country. This election, I believe that man to be Senator Obama.
Good luck to you sir! - cg4et, on 10/16/2008, -2/+13Charlie Crist knows which way the wind is blowing. He isn't going to take a sword for McCain, especially after he was passed over for veep in favor of the Beauty Queen.
- JenniferInMO, on 10/16/2008, -2/+12I agree. People who commit voter fraud should be arrested and tried. But ACORN has never been accused of voter fraud. There have been some street level employees submitting fraudulent registrations, they have been called on it and arrested. ACORN caught those fraudulent registrations and flagged them for the elections boards when they turned them in. BTW they are REQUIRED to turn in all forms even if they are suspected to be fraudulent because the elections boards are the people who must verify or determine the fraud. ACORN the organization has been accused of nothing.
- orlandogeek, on 10/16/2008, -0/+9The Republicans in the past 2 Presidential elections as well as during 1998 vs Michael Dukakis have a much larger and filthier history of defrauding and suppressing votes, especially those of minorities. As I stated above, there have been some people hired by ACORN to register voters who instead just filled out stacks of forms with bogus information. Even so, there is a dramatic difference between fraudulent voter registration cards which have been deemed invalid and actual fraudulent votes. One absolutely cannot lead to another in the way that everyone who is falsely blaming ACORN for this mess is claiming they will.
- heystoopid, on 10/16/2008, -0/+9Question what letter in the word "denial" scares the living daylights out of your fixed track one questionable thought a time brain cell ?
- RodBorn, on 10/16/2008, -3/+11there is there strange feeling of a tide of unity among those that sense hope on the horizon...both Dems and Repubs. This could be the moment where positivity wins out over negativity. A true evolution in American society.
- weaselfingers, on 10/16/2008, -0/+8Seriously, any more than two is just excessive.
- dswinscoe, on 10/16/2008, -1/+8grow a soul? Spoken like one of the truly deluded, I couldn't find your remark more ironic, or moronic for that matter. However, at the risk of feeding the trolls, I'll take the bait and waste a few lines:
1) It's not voter fraud until someone votes, and if you really think Mickey Mouse is going to vote without an ID, than be sure to follow up on that. Now if you're really interested in voter fraud, you may want to read up on GOP voter suppression tactics: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voter_suppression
2) Abolition of slavery and anti-segregation are clearly progressive movements, against which conservatives still fight today. Or are you so ignorant of history that you don't know who championed these monumental movements? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politics_of_the_South ...
3) And since you bring it up, the core of the abortion issue centers on weighing the needs, safety and health of a full grown human female vs an nonviable cell bundle; and yes, Democrats side with the mother, and fight for her constitutional rights to privacy - it's not pro-abortion, it's pro-choice: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pro-choice
So provided you even got this far, which I highly doubt, perhaps you could consider your comments and try to think before you form an opinion, so far as that's possible. Thanks. - bphicke, on 10/16/2008, -0/+7Aren't they always?
- sponeil, on 10/16/2008, -1/+8It's not called exaggerating when it's done to mislead people. It's called lying. And the way Republicans are purging Democratic voter registrations IS voter fraud. They know if they make it enough of a hassle, a lot of people won't bother to vote. It's a sad thing for our nation, but it's true.
- FearFactory, on 10/16/2008, -1/+8Does this mean Florida is going to be the dumb state in this election?
- dolphindance25, on 10/16/2008, -1/+8Wow! Someone in the GOP near election day not reciting his party's talking points?
The ice in Hell just chapped Satan's willy. - AaronS2000, on 10/16/2008, -1/+8I remember the days when Charlie Crist was in the running for VP. I bet he's glad he got off of the sinking ship. Republican politicians are running from McCain like they did from Bush all of this year.
- AngelaQ, on 10/16/2008, -0/+6It's also true that anybody can try to mess with the system and sign themselves up with a volunteer under a false identity, which is why ACORN verifies all their registrants to determine that they are valid by calling them.
- barbiesnow, on 10/16/2008, -1/+6the applications were fraudulent, those people will never show up to vote...no other ID...Mickey Mouse?
- RansomHoldiay, on 10/16/2008, -0/+5don't worry. with out fail. if the population consisted of just one guy who had to raise his hand to vote we would still ***** this up.
- mrusteck, on 10/16/2008, -1/+6Buried for being an idiot.
- zenbud, on 10/16/2008, -1/+6Are you serious? I'm surprised you can type.
- fuse13, on 10/16/2008, -0/+5@latentk. Your entire post is full of general claims and no specifics: ACORN is Guilty. ACORN is radical. Blah blah blah.
"Prove me wrong."
Hey I think McCain is actually an alien from Jupiter come to eat our women. PROVE ME WRONG. - orlandogeek, on 10/16/2008, -0/+5Latentk I'm sorry you can only see what you want to see and your mind is closed to the truth of the matter. ACORN itself, the organization is not at fault here. Some unscrupulous people they employed in their registration drive ARE guilty of attempting to scam the system, get paid for doing nothing and forge voter registration forms.
The facts are plainly available if you choose to research the situation. Representatives of ACORN tried to make it clear to people claiming intentional voter registration fraud. Every single one of these claims is being put forth by GOP leaders. That'd be Republicans. That's my justification for claiming so, because it's the truth. I consider that proving you wrong.
The truth is that ACORN (and any others doing voter registration drives) are required by law to submit ALL voter registration forms they collect. The biggest point you're failing to grasp is that not a single one of these forms that is filled out incorrectly can result in a fraudulent vote for either candidate. - msflower97, on 10/16/2008, -0/+4So what if he is?
- dolphindance25, on 10/16/2008, -0/+4Crist said his party was exaggerating the accusations being made against Obama and ACORN. Did you even read the article?
- zenbud, on 10/16/2008, -0/+4Voter registrations aren't 'votes' - please educate yourself. Where were you in 2000? In 2004? No foul there? You amaze me, and not in a good way.
- zip000, on 10/16/2008, -0/+4Everyone in Florida that I know says that he is probably gay. Of course as a Republican he can't come out and say that.
From what I understand - and maybe this is wrong and/or cynical - the engagement was a beard to make him more promising as a VP pick. Now that he isn't in the running for that the engagement is off. Again, I don't know if this is true at all.
If he is gay, it is unfortunate that he can't come out and say it, though I understand why he would be reluctant to do so. - inactive, on 10/16/2008, -1/+5Sounds like Bush vs Gore....
- inactive, on 10/16/2008, -0/+4So by "standing up and pushing harder to end it", what do you propose we do? Close down ACORN? It's too late for that. We get a hold of all their registration and sort them out? That's the election boards' work. Condemn Obama? For what? Giving seminar ages ago, when I'm sure that none of them were about fraudulently filling out the registrations?
The FBI investigating ACORN is about as credible as the FBI investigation "Kill Him" allegations at McCain's rally. The FBI are just following hints from the partisan public (on both side), not looking for anything "real".
So what do you propose that Democrats do exactly? - cowboytrumpet, on 10/16/2008, -3/+7Way to go Charlie! It's about time we see at least one ethical member of their party step up to the plate. The Republicans are destroying their party this year in a very ugly way, and unless more ethical people come around and try to wrangle it away from the venomous factions like Rove/Cheney who have been running this farce, then Republicans will no longer have anything to save.
- orlandogeek, on 10/16/2008, -1/+4Interesting how you neglect the fact that John McCain gave a keynote speech at an ACORN event in 2006. He was for them before he was against them? Hmmm.
- zip000, on 10/16/2008, -1/+4It really isn't "assisting the ignorant" - it is informing the apathetic.
Too many people don't care or feel that their vote won't make a difference; that's what these registration drives are about. - barbiesnow, on 10/16/2008, -0/+3Since they are checking the registrations back to January 08, lets see how many of Rush Limbaugh's "operation chaos" show up on the manipulation of votes...
- zip000, on 10/16/2008, -1/+4My grandmother-in-law recently sat next to Crist on a airplane, and she raved - a lot - about how nice he was. She's a long time (for ever as far as I know) democrat, and she had nothing but positive to say about him. All of the Florida people I know (all democrats I think) speak very highly of him - that he's the best Republican a Democrat could ask for.
- kolobcreek, on 10/16/2008, -1/+4The GOP is a bunch of johny come latelies.
The DNC had this one tied up a long time ago. -
